As you can read, it reaches an feddbacks average is really high, and it is based on a very high number of reviews, so we can say that the evaluation is quite reliable. If people have bothered to leave their opinion when they've done well, it works.
You know that we don't usually bother to set tatings when they are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Fish Shop belongs to the category of Seafood restaurant.
We were happy to have been assigned the chef’s table upstairs (party of 6) Friday evening. While the atmosphere and ambiance were great the service was severely lacking and food/beverage was not what you would expect at a higher end establishment. Oysters were fantastic and the risotto on the five fishermen plate was tasty but the 1/4 of a lobster tail was disappointing. My pilsner beer was served at room temperature. Pad Thai was very plain and dry. Waited 1.5hrs for our entrees AFTER we were finished our apps. There was no cutlery on the table when the entrees were finally brought out. The server neglected to check in on us, didn’t ask whether we wanted more drinks or another bottle of wine, etc. Didn’t ask us if we wanted coffee or desserts just brought us the bill. There were no apologies for the wait. Even for a Friday night the place did not appear to be overly busy so I don’t believe a lack of serving staff was the issue here as the waitress was clearly attending to certain tables more than others. Over hyped. Spend your money elsewhere.
Brillant loved it, though the lights are in a romantic setting, even if u r not. Knowledgeable ostrei staff. The barman was indeed very accommodating, we would go back there, rather than press gang, the greeting is far more genuine.
I lived in Halifax in the early 2000s and when I came back for a trip I very much looked forward to coming back to the Five Fishermen. It's obviously changed quite a bit and went upscale, but I was quite disappointed. I expected to be blown away by seafood and I got adequate seafood. No complaints on the food, but it's definitely not the way it used to be, with quantity and quality overwhelming you. The service was extremely disappointing as I waited 15 minutes AFTER being seated to see the server and get our water. We had a reservation, and especially when the establishment is upscale, this never happens. Everything was slower than it should have been. I would always recommend this restaurant in the past. There's just better options in Halifax now.
Great Upscale restaurant! The signature lobster dinner was AMAZING! Service was great from the moment we walked in the door. The bathrooms were really nice with that extra touch of class with the thick paper towels that felt like cloth.
Really Outstanding food. Friendly but perhaps not polished service. Would recommend and will return.
Made reservations for a late dinner with my boyfriend and we had a great experience! Our server was absolutely lovely, and the food was delicious. All the dishes were clearly well thought out. Will definitely return :)
Okay, I am not sure where to start. This was an amazing experience, it blew my expectations. My friend and I will be returning to this place multiple times, I am going to recommend all my friends and family. I strongly recommend this place to anyone and everyone. You are warmly welcomed into the restaurant and the customer service is exceptional. Phil was the gentleman assisting us, he quickly realized it was my birthday and insured that I have a great night. The manager on duty, Peter was extremely friendly. We we treated with really well, the food was good, had the salmon & halibut will try the steak on my next visit. I could go on forever, but this is a place you NEED to go!!! Strongly recommend. If I could give more than 5 starts I would !
Best seafood meal I've had at a restaurant. The sauce used for the muscles was amazing. The seafood main I had was also spectacular. Aside from the halibut which was slightly dry, everything else was cooked really well and seasoned perfectly. We were very happy they had power after the hurricane as we got to have this amazing food. Our waitress was super friendly and sociable, made the experience that much better.
Really good and fresh tasting food. We got the Rockefeller Oysters, Tuna and Umami Fried Rice, Truffle Fries, Sweet Potato Ravioli. Definitely try the oysters while you’re there, they are amazing! The truffle fries were also very good.
Pretty good. I guess they just reopened and they were short staff so the service wasn't great but they ended up covering our drinks and sending us home with 3 desserts given the bad service. So depsite the service being poor I think it was just a staffing situation. Food was good.
Environment: class, great decor. Food: crab croquettes 3/$15, delicious but some bites can taste more like “filler” than crabs. Tartare: subtle, good, couldn’t really taste any “smoke”. Five fisherman experience: well presented and almost complete. Main gripe is, too much risotto and no greens. Scallops were flavourful, salmon and halibut tasty, seaweed/crispers added texture, shrimps average in size. Overall a good experience.
Very tasty food! The bone marrow was different and then we did the bone marrow shots which was interesting. Oysters were fresh and the shrimps were super tasty. I had the halibut which was really nice! My husband’s burger was decent too and the other meal we had was the salmon for which the sauce was a bit on the sweet side, but otherwise tasty.
Ordered the 5 fish experience plate, taste was good. I would say that the description of the plate is a bit off, shrimp is not seared, lobster tail is in fact a 1/2 tail. The halibut was over cooked, but the salmon was cooked perfectly. Again the taste of everything together was great. I just would not recommend this specific plate if you’re a seafood fan. Service was good, nothing great for the category of the restaurant, old school hip-hop music was very odd choice for the ambiance.
The atmosphere was beyond our expectations but everything else fell flat. The food was mediocre and our service was terrible. We waited 2 hours for our main course, and our server basically abandoned us after we ordered. Skip this place and go somewhere that isn't overrated.
I was drawn to this place for the history and the spookiness but was very impressed with the dining experience. They know how to handle seafood, presentation was spot on and although the place is a tad posh, the atmosphere was not stuffy or overwhelming. It was relaxing, the staff was amazing and we would definitely return if we are back in Halifax. Family loved the food (lobster mac and cheese was the favourite). They also have a vegetarian menu so you veg-heads are set!
Oh man that burger and wine was divine! Great ambiance!
Dine in
This place was an absolute gem. Must do! We sat in Five Social but ordered from both the Five Fisherman and the Five Social menus. Definitely pricey but sooooo worth it. The atmosphere was fun, the decor is beautiful, the cocktails are amazing to look at and drink (heads up... for a few of them you're going to want to be ready for a video). Shintaro was our guy and he was so much fun. Think my hubby made a friend for life ????. Food: To DIE for! Love fish? Get the Five Fish Dish. Don't love fish? (like me)... definitely get the prosciutto wrapped chicken.
Second time eating there, it was excellent both times. Great seafood, and I really recommend the pork skewers.
My young daughters and I had dinner here on August 12, 2021. Service was very good. Pan seared scallops were very nice. The watermelon salad was terrific. The strip loin steak was low quality, grisly and tasted of fish from seafood that was cooked on the same grill I guess. The restaurant is very clean, modern and pleasant BUT, be prepared to listen to R and B music that is way too loud with Kanye West spouting "F" bombs. Not for children nor adults trying to enjoy a nice meal. I had requested that the waitress have the music turned down just a little and she winced and said that this would be tricky. The music was not turned down. I will not go here again despite the fact that I do like the restaurant and also despite my sub standard steak. The seafood is quite good. My opinion is that they are trying to create a party atmosphere with a focus on booze sales at the expense of class and also that of a friendly environment for mature diners and that of children/families. Too bad for them. It's a shame really! I give 2 stars without prejudice.
Overall, our dinner experience at the Five Fishermen was great. We had Acadian style mussels to start. Though they were quite good, they did not particularly stand out compared to other mussels I have had elsewhere. I also wish it came with a little bit of bread on the side because they were cooked in a flavourful broth that could have been appreciated more than just having to discard it. The chowder was amazing. Perfectly portioned and very generously filled with scallops, fish and shrimp. (Every spoonful of chowder was overflowing with seafood-wow) The cost for a bowl is on par with basic restaurants and take out places in the area- so I think its an excellent value for what it is. The highlight of our meal however, was the Arctic char. This char had the most beautiful char on it (see picture attached). Cooked to perfection and ever so moist. The simple preparation allowed the flavours of the fish to shine through, so much so that you don’t even need the butter it comes with. (We chose the maple infused butter which was very fragrant). The atmosphere is very modern and sleek, which was pleasantly interesting in contrast to the historic building.
Amazing service. Attention to details was excellent. I had indicated that it was our wedding anniversary so they had a nice card when we were seated. The server brought us two flûtes of champagne to toast our anniversary. Great atmosphere.
Classic, family-oriented, but also could be romantic restaurant with great ambiance located in downtown, Halifax. The food is quite pricey, but the taste was absolutely fantastic with great flavor. The food could have been salty, but it was not, which I really care the most about. Lobster dinner was the most expensive but not vig size so I won't recommend. The five fish was very delicate and exquisite. I highly recommend the linguine pasta with rose sauce and fresh seafood!
We stopped in for Burger Week without a reservation and thankfully we were able to be seated at the bar upstairs. The atmosphere is wonderful, the staff friendly and inviting, great service. We ordered the Wagyu burger and truffle fries, and wow so delicious. The Five Fisherman is a must try if your looking for good food and great atmosphere and I'd suggest making a reservation if you want to guarantee being seated.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing seafood with quality ingredients. Would highly recommend for a fancy occasion or higher end meal.
Excellent service. Beautiful decor. Lively atmosphere. Tasty cocktails, separate vegan/vegetarian menu ????! My out of town family member wanted lobster and they didn’t disappoint - he ate every last morsel. Thank you for the bubbly & the amouse bouche from the kitchen. We’ll be back!
This place is amazing! I had one of the best meals of my life here! Pricey....but worth it! Highly recommend.
Loved the food .. wasn’t crazy about the cheese cake .. the service was great. I made a reservation and decided to sit at the bar instead .... they had no issues with accommodating me. Great wine the bartender was really knowledgeable about the wine list and gave me some must tries when I got back to Ontario. Thanks
I wanted so bad to give 5 stars but couldn't. The inside was decorated very nice. The servers were very nice. It took forever to get a drink, we're talking 20 minutes after ordering before it was brought to the table. I asked for water with an expensive cocktail. It took about an hour to get the water., when it came it was room temperature not even cold. I ordered another drink and waited so long. I ended up drinking my husband's water. The 3rd drink I ordered never came. I ended up asking the server to fill my cocktail glass with water as well as my water glass. The food we ordered was very good, one person in our party was served cold food and they were quick to offer a replacement. I noticed no management has responded to any reviews left which comes across as uncaring. We take the time to review good points as well as minor blips to work on.. the least you could do is acknowledge that we value your restaurant. This could be a 5 star right across the board if management acted apon the feedback given
Warning; please read before eating here. Was looking forward to the 5 fishermen as it had been about 15 years since last there. It was one of the worst meals I've had in a while. Started with warm, stale Keith's Draft which I sent back. The crab cakes were like something Captain Highliner would produce in a box. My wife scallops were placed on a bed of uncooked frozen hash browns. I'm not joking. The signature 5 fishermen plate had off salmon, dry lobster, and risotto that obviously came out of a microwave bag. On to dessert; we did the sample tray, no flavour, obviously sitting a long time. The Irish coffees were horrible. *** To add to the culinary misery, there was loud rap music playing!!! THIS IS NOT A JOKE!! EVERY second song was loud rap music!! They spoke of ambiance! It was BRUTAL!!! EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE PLEASE.
A bit expensive but well worth it. Everything myself and the two others ordered was delicious. Biscuits to start. We also got a complimentary appetizer of salmon croquettas. The desert was tasty too. If I ever go back to Halifax, I would definitely go here again.
Great atmosphere and even better food. My partner has no restrictions but I'm a vegetarian and there were good options for me. Would definitely come back when we're visiting the area again
Great service and fantastic food. I am 71 and it was one of the best dinning out experiences ever! Thank you to your staff. One thing disappointing is your desserts. Boring and not appealing. Try things that are greeted to the theme of f Five Fishermen i.e. seaweed pie, bread pudding, rum desserts etc. Rebecca
The place is really pretentious. The food wasn’t on par with what they were trying to sell. It seemed like we caught them on a quiet Sunday night where the staff wanted to go home ( we were the only two people ) We ordered two cocktails which tasted almost the same . The service also felt pretty rushed and the waiter was not completely sure of all the ingredients that was on the plate being served. A little underwhelming in my humble opinion for the price on the menu
A mix of contemporary and classy vibe in this restaurant. Lobster encrusted haddock was delicious.
Sooo disappointed. We went for burger night---- the boys had burgers--- which were awesome. I ordered the seafood plate which had shrimp, lobster, scallops, halibut. The first bite of lobster was not good. My 2nd bite of scallop was not good. It all had a "fishy" taste (yes.....I know it's fish) and was obviously not fresh. Our waitress was absolutely LOVELY and took it back for me and I ordered something else. She also did a little damage control and brought out a great selection of desserts at no charge---- which was delicious!! She even sent us home with some extra :-).
Best Place in Town
The lobster was amazing our best meal in Halifax great service and food.
We had a great time mid-week at The Five Fishermen. The food and drinks were delicious and they had lots of variety for options but there were a couple of items that they didn't have available that day. The host and wait service was top-notch but the music was a bit louder for the space. The prices matched the quality you're getting and I will definitely be back.
Best mixologist- Nick was amazing! Amazing food and service. Crab croquettes and lamb lollipop was to die for . 5 fishermen experience was amazing though the lobster tail was a tab bit small.
We got the lamb lollipops, the five fish experience, and the lobster crusted haddock. The lamb lollipops were amazing, the five fish experience was good to have a taste of all of the seafood if it's your first time but I probably wouldn't recommend it if you've already had lobster and scallops before. The lobster crusted haddock was good but could've used a bit more salt but that's just my opinion. Great atmosphere although the music can be a bit loud and unfitting sometimes. It's trying to be a fancy restaurant with the prices and serving and environment but the music kind of shatters it a bit for you. Overall I'd definitely recommend it if it's your first time trying fancy seafood or if you like lobster but otherwise, there's probably better options that don't cost an arm and a leg.
Friendly service and all the seafood was top notch.. the lobster + lobster risotto was our favorite and definitely worth the upgrade.
The seafood were all a bit salty. Long wait time for meal, very bad experience. Although their service staff has been apologizing.
Food was exceptional. It's the little extras that other places do better. Things for improvement: 1. Bibs for lobster meals. 2. Regular water top ups and check-ins at the table. 3. Finger bowls for the lobster meals.
The food (entree) was excellent. I had the arctic char and my son tried the five fish. The dessert was less impressive, nothing unusual in the options or flavour. At times the service was almost too attentive, but then it disappeared. They certainly don't rush you which is great if you are gathering with friends or business associates. On a personal note, I first came here in 1997 and made a point of coming back every time i was in the city because I loved it so much. They remodelled a few years ago and the decor has lost its former charm. It is now modern and upscale. The all you can eat mussel bar is also only a distant memory. Overall, I would recommend the Five fisherman restaurant in Halifax.
Service
We went for the first time last week and introduced our friends visiting from Manitoba to the menu. Our server Laura did a fantastic job of ensuring we had a memorable evening! From the crab croquettes, coquille st Jacques, 5 fishermen experience, stuffed pork chop to dessert, everything was fabulous. Thank you Laura for going above & beyond! We have another set of visitors arriving in 3 weeks and we’ll be sure to bring them here!
I love the oysters, very fresh and juicy. We got the Fisherman's Experience, various kinds of seafood on a bed of mushroom risotto. The seafood were all too salty in my opinion, the risotto is not bad. Does this restaurant live up to its hype? Maybe not...
Relaxed, chill vibe with great energy and even better staff - The Five Fishermen is not to be missed on a trip to Halifax. I started with a glass of Zenato valpolicella and the pork belly tostadas. They were so delicious, I forgot to take a photo, so that tells you something. The flavour was unbelievable! For my main, I had “The Five Fish” featuring salmon, halibut, lobster, shrimp and scallops on a bed of risotto. Now, it comes with a pea risotto, but I opted for the lobster risotto, and if you are a lobster fan, this is definitely the way to go! (Now I want to go back and try it with the pea risotto to compare the flavour of the sweet peas with the salty ocean fare. Yum!) I paired my main with a big glass of the Jost Tidal Bay - my absolute favourite. I even had dessert - I tried the rum cake, which was delicious, but it came on a slate, which I realize is a trendy thing for restaurants to do now, but just seems a bit silly to me. Anyway, an excellent meal, with knowledgeable, well-trained staff in a historic location, with a thoroughly modern decor, I highly recommend it. ❤️????
great food! great service! the steak was done exactly the way we wanted it to be and the wine recommendation was very on point!
The service was great - just the right amount of attention. Nice ambiance and not too loud. The food was exceptional, just wished the wine list had a bit more to offer.
Enjoyed a honeymoon meal here and the experience was wonderful. Everything we ate was delicious. You won’t be dissatisfied. Staff were attentive and friendly and made sure our experience with them was a great one. I hope to one day return for future occasions!
Literally the best seafood in town. Will almost certainly come back. What an amazing spot.
Stopped by here during a business trip. I sat at the bar and enjoyed all the recommended dishes by the bar tender. It was a quick week night so service was very quick. Everything was delicious and I highly recommend coming here when in Halifax.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food. Highly recommended. Try the 5 fish platter you won't regret it
Great place for a celebratory dinner. While I waited for the 20 plus people in my party to settle in I decided to have a vodka martini made with a local vodka. Spectacular! I had Oysters Rockefeller to start then local Halibut grilled with fresh vegetables and Lobster mashed potatoes. Delicious! If you like a bit of the unusual nibble on the seaweed garnish used for the Rockefeller starter. We were there well after closing and the staff remained attentive and friendly.
The meals were well prepared and presented. Service was good and the server was very personable. We had a great meal and dining experience
Had a most enjoyable evening with delicious food and fantastic local wine and cocktails. Laura and Nick both provided exceptional service and we will definitely be back when we visit Halifax next! The Five fishes platter with the risotto was absolutely amazing! Thank you for a great dining experience.
Some pretty phenomenal seafood here. We loved the oysters. They also tempt you with dessert by showcasing it all on a wooden tray and a flashlight as your waiter describes each dish to you. We had lobster and steak, and everything was delicious. The risotto was creamy and very flavorful! Would highly recommend for a fancy night out.
Great experience, tasty food with beautiful presentation and right potion. Service was good. Love all the seafoods: tataki tuna on top of the crunchy fish skin, creamy delicates seafood based chowder, oyster, searing scallops so soft and tender. Pesto crusted halibut, grilled lobster tail and steak with complex smokey aromas. We had a wonderful time there.
We went to The five fishermen for our anniversary. we didn’t expect the kindness and high quality of service and food. This is by far the best restaurant in the city.
Good food Good service Fair price Very nice atmosphere
Had an absolutely lovely birthday dinner here. The service we received from Skylar was top notch. The drinks from the bar were delicious, the food was amazing and the staff gave me a little something extra for my birthday celebration (steak tartare, yum!!). Overall fantastic experience with amazing food and service!
What an amazing restaurant. Location, service and great food
Truly fantastic food, and beautiful location. I recommend the risotto and the desserts are fantastic as well. The reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that my table was upsold on items without being told. A slight change in the style of the risotto was an additional cost and in asking for a glass of wine, we were given the 9 ounces rather than the regular size. Small details, but I think it's important. Aside from that, service was fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable.
Went here on the recommendation of a friend and SO glad we did. Killer cocktails and (obviously) wonderful seafood. Great service and can't wait to return.
I've been here a few times and overall pretty solid spot for a nice meal. the Tomahawk pork chop was a personal highlight. Had steak and lamb shank previously which were only okay. The $2 oyster special until 6pm is always a nice treat to start your evening. Service has always been on point especially when you dine upstairs.
Staff were friendly and very accommodating to my special requests (gluten free pescatarian) and offered variations to the menu that were delicious. Had scallops with risotto instead of the chorizo and it was delicious.
Wonderful food with a fairly casual atmosphere. Enthusiastic and self confident? Yes indeed but not at all pretentious. We're definitely going back.
We had a lovely experience. Everything we ordered was delicious and the had a seperate vegan and vegetarian menu with a reasonable amount of choices. We had chili garlic shrimp, pan seared scallops, umami rice with tofu, and a sqash or pumpkin ravioli. My only complaint is the serving size of ravioli, though they were delicious, you get about 7 ravioli. The cocktails were beautiful and tasty. We also ordered a cheese board for dessert which was a perfect sharing option over coffee. The atmosphere was beautiful with lovely lighting and decor. Everything was reasonably hushed which was also nice. It's an expensive experience, but it's an experience.
Oh this place is huge, with both an upstairs and downstairs dining. Decor is very attractive and the seating is cushion-comfortable-best seats at booths or at bar. Service was exceptional! We had all of our needs met quickly and with friendly smiles. We really enjoyed the service-top notch. The sea food chowder was very good, full of bay scallops and shrimp-yummy. Unfortunately, the divine looking lobster dinner presentation was much better than the lobster itself. Very disappointed. Our lobster came almost cold. Mushy in texture and nothing plump about the flesh. The butter tasted diluted, not like real butter.☹️ Our first night visiting Halifax and we were salivating for this restaurant’s lobster because of the rave reviews. My husband said later that he has had better lobster at Red Lobster. Hope it was just a bad night(Wednesday). Dessert was amazing. Apple crumble was a very generous portion filled with apple and cinnamon sprinkle , served warm.
Amazing atmosphere and good food. Tho the food took some time to come out. It was worth the wait
Nice atmosphere, good tuna tartare, great lobster Thermidor. Tried my friend's five fish experience and preferred this but I wanted a baked, buttery, cheesy lobster experience.
There was a party of 30 people in at the same time as we were. The service was extremely slow as they catered to only the group, everyone looked like they were annoyed at how long we were all waiting for any amount of service. On top of that, the food wasn't even good. My fish tasted like it had been under the heat lamp for at least 20 minutes, the fries were stale, and nothing was fresh and hot. It's really not worth the insane price. They're trying to be fancy but failing at it. You want good seafood for a good price? Go to Salty's
AMAZING vegan options!! I know… A vegan probably doesn’t belong here…. But, with a carnivorous mate, you get dragged to all kinds of places. Thank you for having the most interesting and delicious options that I have had in years. So damn delicious and I ate way too much!! That Smoked Mushroom Tartar is ridiculous!!! Our server, Laura, was an absolute doll and made us feel like VIPs. The manager who was working was also super-friendly. What a lovely experience!!! PS- my partner completely loved his lobster dinner, too :)
Got the crispy tofu, oysters, five fisherman experience and the lobster linguine. Absolutely delicious! No wrong choices there. And really appreciate the great service, suggestions and accommodations from Laura, our waitress. Thank you!
Had an amazing dining experience last night. Started with oysters and they were so fresh and tasty. Then the 5 Fish plate and substituted with the Lobster risotto, OMG it was out of this world. One of the best risottos I have ever had. And best of all our waiter Nolan was incredible. Great food and great service doesnt get any better. 5 star for sure.
Atmosphere 5/5 - Menu 5/5 - Service 3/5 - Food 4/5 - Location 5/5 Cocktails 5/5 What a treat to dine at the 5 fishermen this weekend. Such a lovely spot with great music, we had the tuna tartare which was delicious and everything you’d want in such a dish. The lobster tower (which is what drew us to this restaurant ) was tasty. Cocktails were delicious. The tuna & umami fried rice was ok, I felt the mushrooms inside the dish over powered all of the other delicate flavours to the point where it tasted like mushroom fried rice. The restaurant seemed understaffed which gave the feeling of the restaurant being really busy when actually it wasn’t and so things felt kind of slow. But no harm done, overall our server was really nice, the staff thoughtfully served us complimentary champagne and a dessert for our anniversary and we had a great night. I invite you to visit this restaurant if you want an edge up on your typical halifax local fare, this place has a Japanese- Asian flair. You will not be disappointed. Pictured: cocktails south end & sparrows nest, tuna tartare, nori chips, lobster tower, tuna & umami fried rice.
Arrived in Halifax during a power outage but this place came highly recommended and was open. Nice place, soft light, almost like a winery, with polished wood tables and wine racks, a family table look. Good menu selection. Interesting drinks ???? pork chop - excellent, seafood linguini - great, chowder - light and tasty! We were all happy! Service was excellent too ???? friendly and helpful.
Cool atmosphere, was sat right away. 5 social is clean n super friendly hosts. Decent selection of wine. Ordered the scallops which were delish, however they were quite cold. Also ordered a second glass of wine which the bartender poured me straight out of an open bottle. First one came in carafe and was a lot larger, not to mention using the same glass and an open bottle that wasn’t my own is totally unsanitary, especially during these times. Over all not bad.
Great atmosphere excellent food and great service . We were a party of 16. Everyone was very happy.
The service was outstanding, the ambience was nice, and it's near the waterfront so if you get the bay window booth (I did) it has a wonderful view of the harbour. The food was delicious. We tried the oysters, their Monday mussel special (amazing garlic creme sauce), and the Five Fish Risotto. My only regret is once I go back home the seafood won't taste this good.
Really good restaurant in downtown Halifax serving fresh seafood sourced locally. Food was great, we ordered the tostadas which was a great appetizer, chowder was decent though not as smooth as the best, and the kale Caesar salad was good. Our entrees were the five fish, which was good except the risotto was too cheesy and the lobster was over cooked by a minute and a bit tough. The pork chops were delicious, chicken was good though not a big portion, and the fish was great. Wine was average at best but definitely not worth the price they were charging since it tasted like the 25 dollar bottle at best. We had a New Zealand pino and a California pino, would not get the NZ one and the CA was decent. Overall good spot for a date or just a nice meal but not as good as a Michelin starred restaurant, let down by the wine.
Meal type
Menu was not as lengthy as anticipated. However items were varied, wholesome and well prepared. Service was very good. Reservations are a must. $$$.
We had a great experience here. The food was great, the truffle fries were amazing. Our server was super friendly and helpful, thanks Clara! Would definitely come again.
Dinner
Very nice location and food was very well prepared and tasted good. Maple sugar dressing on fish was yummy. Very pricey restaurant. Interesting history of the building ask server.
Tasty food, great service and lovely afro beat playlist!
Absolutely fantastic place to eat. Everything from the service, to the food and drink was top notch. Will absolutely go back here the next time we are in Halifax.
Pretty overhyped from the online reviews. The food was decent, however, the service was atrocious which was very apparent from previous reviews. From not bringing out water, to not bringing out plates, to having to remind the waiter to bring out our drinks after 30+ minutes..... it was an honest shame. The Bicycle Thief was 2x more busy and yet we were served faster, the service was better and the food was significantly more tasty.
Amazing food and beautiful place. The servers are awesome. It was my boyfriends birthday and they went the extra mile to make it special. The scallops and cheese board were especially amazing but everyone who had the steak was amazed as well! Love this place
Originally ordered the market fish but they ran out, so we ordered the halibut. The maple butter sauce was too sweet, the fish was dry, and the vegetables weren’t cooked evenly. Some of the carrots had a snap, some were mushy. The lobster Mac n’ Cheese was REALLY good though. Service was professional despite how difficult some people at my table were. It fell apart during dessert. Our desserts were sitting on the counter for a good 5 minutes before it was brought to our table. Quite a few people walked by and looked at it, but no one wanted to bring it over. Then they kind of held us hostage when we wanted to pay. It took forever to get the bill and the machine.
Oh so good....decor was everything, and the food was spectacular. I had oysters and the 5 Fish experience...so good. But the star was the smoked mushroom tartare my husband ordered...amazing presentation and flavor. His umami rice was also incredible. Not often do vegan options get the same care and attention in a non-vegan restaurant, so this was a magnificent surprise. Our server, Emma, was a delight!!
We had Carly as our server and she was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. The food was incredible, the ambiance was perfect for what we were looking for. She found out it was our honeymoon and went above and beyond to make us feel special. She made the experience for us. I would love to be seated in her section again
Lovely location and friendly staff. A bit pricey, but the food was good. The lobster guacamole dip wasn’t as good as it was made out to be, but the mussels in curry sauce was amazing. The bigger plates are a lot of food.
The food was amazing! It had the food of a life time. I would highly recommend since it accommodates various palates. The service was a little slower but it was expected due to the Covid situation, with short staff.
Amazing food! IMO this is the best restaurant in Halifax. Try the Five Fish and dessert board.
Delicious food and pleasant atmosphere. Also loved learning some of the history and the ghost stories!
Cocktails at this place were great, and I really enjoyed the appetizers. Would definitely come back just for those two.
