This Fish Shop is included in the category of Asian fusion restaurant.
I really love their seafood and soup. Most of their sushi taste kind of weird and I wouldn't order them there. The portions are great, and price is okay if you are treating it as a date night out. Ambiance is also amazing, especially in the winter when they have the fire right in the center of the tables.
So nice to sit out by the fire during happy hour!! Beautiful view ???? Our waitress was awesome!!
Great replacement for the previous restaurant. Almost all the sushi staff stayed on so the food is tremendous. Great cocktails aswell.
Cheaper than bicycle theif and run by the same people so if bicycle theif is packed check these guys out
Amazing place and very calm. You can find more appetizers
Awesome place! I had the blackened Halibut. Very well prepared, beautiful presentation. A special shout out to Gwen who attended to our party. Very knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing!
Great food. Great customer service. Gwen is the best server. Very accommodating, welcoming and always willing to go above and beyond to enhance your dining experience.
Service and atmosphere was excellent, so was their house white wine (Pinot Grigio). The food looked good but was underwhelming.
Such a great atmosphere despite being on the busy waterfront, can’t speak for the drinks as I just had a can of cider. The food and sushi was delicious. Service was okay, the fire tables on the patio are such a great addition to a quiet or romantic night.
Sushi was dry. Reminded me the death valley
Sushi's top-notch
We had the most marvelous lunch here! Excellent food and service for an affordable price.
Usually very good starters and service but was disappointed yesterday. The food was cold when it arrived, mind you we were sitting outside but It was cold when delivered. We got the Tataki and it was sooo tough we couldn’t even cut it. After receiving our shiitake spring rolls,I ask for sweet chili sauce, waited 15 minutes to get it. The chicken Yakitori very cold when delivered. I realize it was busy because it was a Friday evening and we had a new waitress, she was lovely, but the quality of the food was very disappointing.
Top notch atmosphere and staff. Had the sushi which was really really good with an excellent selection of seafood.
Great view awesome food
This place has stepped their game up. Patio is niceee with the fire pit tables. Menu has something for everyone. I wish they had a few more cocktails on the drink menu. And should be able to make a rezzo on the patio.. I'll be back. ???? ????
Loved my evening here having wine and nibbles with friends! The food was truly incredible (special mention to the shrimp!!!!!) And the server was attentive and fast. One thinly thing I will mention is that it was quite crowded outside...I would probably suggest slightly less seating but besides from that we really enjoyed it there ????
It's a great place. The recent renovation really sets a nice atmosphere and as always the staff are fantastic! The food is great, and the Sushi is as fresh as it gets, great location with an outdoor patio literally dock side on the harbor. A few good taps running local Micro brews as well as a full cocktail and a decent wine list. Lots of tourists from the cruise ships so on a sunny day you want to get there in off peak times to get a seat.
Nice place but kind of overpriced. Sushi was ok nothing amazing though. Nice location as well but when it's super windy on the patio you can't really do anything except use blankets and hope the fire warms you up outside.
Ate here twice and the service was phenomenal. Food was best in town — considering other places offer pub food at the same price. The bartender, Tri, made his signature drink, his own creation called “Rosemary Me”. Will come back for sure!
This restaurant is a must do if you love or are visiting Halifax! Whether you're eating inside or on the patio, you'll get stunning views of the harbour. The restaurant is super chic with a great feel to it and the staff are so personable and friendly. I highly suggest ordering the Tomahawk Porkchop like I did - you won't be disappointed! They also have an amazing drink and wine selection to top off your meal. Don't hesitate - reserve your time there now !
The food here is absolutely amazingly tasty! I recommend this place to everybody.
I think patio is better to seat.
This restaurant is a must-visit if you're in Halifax for one of the best sushi rolls you'll ever have! The Blue fin tuna we had for appetizers was tender and flavourful and the sushi rolls not only looked amazing and colourful in the boat they were presented in, but tasted fresh and delicious too! The waterfront location is perfect, with the harbour-view patio located right on the boardwalk. Prices were reasonable and the service was good too.
Great location. Yummy food
Service
Had the poke bowl with tuna and it was delicious. Also had a bite of the lobster roll and was delicious as well.
Lovely restaurant. Staff very attentive, food as always top quality. Try out the rolls they are something else. Very happy family
The food wasn't bad, definitely not the best quality cut of beef I've had but not too shabby either. The lobster tail was cooked perfectly and paired well with the soy glaze that it's cooked in. My one complaint is how long it took for the food to arrive at the table but overall wasn't a bad experience.
This restaurant is truly Fantastic with a beautiful view of the Halifax Harbour!!! We ordered the poke bowls with miso soup and they were delicious! The portion was a little small for the price ($23 each) but it was alright. Overall the food was amazing and the restaurant has a perfect view of the ocean, so what’s not to like!
Amazing meals right on the Habour front.
We did not eat here. However the drinks were fantastic. The gin fusion drink in particular were amazing. Great bar staff. Very friendly and knowledgeable. I can't wait to come back and eat there.
Nice ambiance right on the waterfront. Our server, Adam was great!
Beautifully decorated and excellent sushi/seafood options!
The server was amazing, she went out of her to offer some nightlife recommendations. Nice patio. Food was tasty!
Very relaxed atmosphere and family friendly. Food was very good. The lobster skillet is a must try. Very good for socializing or just having a good chat with friends. You will not feel rushed to leave since the waiters try to be helpful just at the right time. Will definitely come back.
Great location on the waterfront and really good cocktails but it's the food that makes me want to return. Possibly the best sushi we've had in Halifax
The place has a nice atmosphere and it's next to the water, that's about the only thing it has going for it. We waited 45 minutes to get our appetizers and the mains arrived maybe 20 minutes after we were done with that. We ordered the blackened halibut which was overcooked and the stuffed haddock which was just ok. For the price we paid, we were very disappointed in the quality of the food. I would not return.
This place has a really interesting menu. Lots of Japanese influenced food with an East Coast twist. Lobster sushi rolls, crab sushi rolls, Digby scallop carpaccio, everything is inspired by local seafood fare. I had the Lobster Maki and they did a great job putting lobster in a sushi roll placing emphasis on the main ingredient rather than covering it with mayonnaise like so many other sushi places in Halifax. My wife wanted to try their eel so we also ordered the Freshwater Eel Maki which was fairly standard tasting but still well done. We also tried the Diver Scallop Maki that was fantastic. The scallops are so fresh and tasted amazing with the sushi rice. I had the Black Cod Misoyaki which was really well prepared. Our friend who came with us tried their Sea Smoke Tataki Salad which she described as delicious and well balanced. Service was impeccable and the decor is top notch. Loved everything about this place. Not to be missed.
A lot of room for improvement. Nice setting with gorgeous views of the harbour. Chowder was tasty but arrived lukewarm. Sushi rolls were mediocre. Server was sweet and pleasant but slow, forgetful and inattentive. Overall, they were trying, but it was a weak effort overall, and it wasn't crazy busy. I don't think I'll be back... there are too many other good choices in Halifax.
Delicious and fresh Sushi. Friendly staff
overpriced. got the lobster dinner which was $40. it was not filling at all. ended up still being hungry. I don't think I ordered the right thing though since everybody else seemed to get a proper meal. 3 stars because its on a beautiful waterfront and service was okay.
I never had an experience like this one. Sitting at the waterfront with the view of the harbour view and a heating table with cozy blanket to warm you up. In November! We came for the sushi and it wasn't a disappointment at all. Definitely will come back again for those fresh scallop nigiri.
There are things that were excellent like the gorgeous view, inside/ outside restaurant design and atmosphere as well as the great service. However, I felt that the food weren't that great as I expected. The spring roll was a bit oversalted. The veggie bowl taste was not balanced. I felt that it would've been better if it was topped with shredded dried seaweed to compliment the sour taste from sushi rice. Anyway, I loved the place and might come back again to have more conclusive review as I didn't have the chance to try their other dishes.
Great meal. Excellent service. Will definitely go again.
Such a beautiful spot. Great customer service and sushi is the best l have had.
Absolutely loved it here! Service was excellent, drinks were perfect, food was divine! Thank you! I will be back!
We really enjoyed our experience at Sea Smoke! The food was amazing, and the patio was lovely. It is a great spot for people watching. A bit on the pricier side, but the food was great, apart from the burger that I ordered… but that’s what I get for ordering a burger at a seafood restaurant I suppose. The shrimp appetizer was to die for. If I could I would go back and drink a vat of that sauce. Yum!
Great atmosphere and food.
Great food and good service. Fun cocktails. In addition to a beautiful view, this bar has what you want for a night on the town. Make sure to ask the staff what their recommendation is, you will not be disappointed.
Great food, great atmosphere.. beautiful location
The food was good and the service was also pretty good. The only thing I didn't like was sitting at a table le where the air conditioning was brutally cold with the cold air blowing directly on to us. I asked the server to turn the temperature down but that didn't make a lock of difference. I didn't enjoy that part of the dining experience.
Not the best sushi, not the best price. Be careful and check your bill twice since I noticed items not consumed to be added on it: avoid to be distracted by waiter.
We had a great experience at Sea Smoke today! Our waitress was great and the food was amazing! It was my second visit and certainly not my last!
Awesome food, great choice, Sesishmi and crab my favourites
I came here on a steady Thursday night. The service was friendly and well organized. My expectations weren't high however their sushi blew me away. One of the better places in Halifax for sushi and the price for it was great! Everything else on the menu was quite high, but expected. I had the tuna salad... Mediocre. Meanwhile my dad had the stuffed haddock which was incredible. Not pictured: we had a side of snow crab for appetizer. It was good however very messy. They put a sweet and spicy sauce on the shell (didn't make much sense since you couldn't taste it after you took the meat out of the shell). We also had the snow crab roll and that was A+. I would recommend to try this new restaurant out!
Great location, Asian seafood menu with something for everyone, good kids menu and crayons for entertainment, change table in bathroom, food is well prepared and tastey, good cocktails and more not on menu available, cheaper than Bike Thief. Good alternative to all the Italian restaurants nearby.
Great food, fantastic service by Ian, and allowed o friends service dog in... oh and the view....
Great location and nice lunch menu
Cosy place, tasty food, friendly and helpful stuff, beautiful views.
Dinner
Very disappointed. Our food took over an hour to get served without any apologies even the restaurant weren't busy but small discount.
Great spot on the Halifax Harbourwalk and really nice drinks too! The service was spotty as we waited 15+ minutes to get our bill after finishing our meal. The food was quite good though, and the seafood salad was packed with seafood!
We went with a large group and everything was delicious! Very fresh and tasty. Great location and scenery. Highly recommended!
Great food and patio!
Staff were amazing and were super nice about us switching tables after alcohol was served. Beautiful waterfront patio. I had the surf and turf, which was very good. The seafood chowder and lamb was amazing. Prices matched the setting and quality. Discounted drinks during happy hour was a nice bonus. Definitely would visit again.
Dine in
I am very disappointed about going to this restaurant. From the surface with all that fireplaces at each table, you would think you should try the place, but think twice! The Menu was sneaky! The explanations about the food under premium combination gave impression that you are ordering some shrimp of some sort but it took me literary by surprise to find that I have ordered "sushi"!! Something that I would never would have ordered if I knew what I am ordering. Also in the Menu said it comes with soup but it didn't and when I asked the waiter, she said: "The soup tastes salty, do you really want me to bring it for you?" That was weird! She judged my taste by not bringing me the soup that normally was coming with that menu! Strange! And for all that stupid sushi I had to pay $70, what a rip off. I never come to this restaurant again. She apologized but no compensation was made. Basically she lost her customer for good. Actually my friends were planning to try this place and I encouraged them to stay away from this place. You can eat much much better and more delicious food with this price in any other restaurant. Don't let the fancy fireplaces at the tables fool you.
We found this little oasis on a cold Halifax eve down at the waterfront. The sushimi and sushi combos were unbelievably tasty. Fresh and fine. Our server was A1++. You gotta try the Dark Horse cocktail. My new favorite.
Excellent evening
Beautiful atmosphere and excellent location. A little piece of heaven
It was OK. Our order took FOREVER and the sushi was not the best.
The restaurant was incredibly busy, which reflected on the service levels unfortunately, which were not that great. There wasn't really much follow up during the meal to the point where we had to get our own drinks refilled at the bar. The sushi rolls were delicious and the braised short ribs were not exactly as advertised they were pork back ribs (but still very tasty). The washrooms were quite unkept and dirty, and while this might be because the bathrooms are shared with another restaurant it was still pretty bad. Overall not a bad experience, great food with service that we hoped could have been much better.
Dinner
Prime location. Abundance of fire tables. Seafood heavy menu. Patio and indoor seating. We had a new server accompanied with another server. Food service as slow but appreciate the effort and time that goes into making sushi rolls. For drinks we had the Nova Spirit cocktail, Lightfoot and Wolfville white wine, California Chardonnay and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. For food we had half a dozen oysters served with a whipped horseradish and whiskey dropper, Holy Dynamite and Lobster sushi rolls, and teriyaki chicken rice bowl. Everything was fantastic. If you’re looking for a place to relax by the water, sip delicious beverages, while enjoying thoughtful food, this is the place. We were so content we didn’t have a chance to consider the dessert menu. Bathrooms are good experience, clean and stylish.
Great service and food. You have to try the shrimp tempura and the calamari! They are fantastic. Sushi was great too.
Great food and loved the outdoor fire pit tables.
Service is very good ....
What a great spot to chill and enjoy some awesome food!!
Beautiful setting for a pleasant evening but the food is subpar. Pretentious menu but staples like the chowder or calamari lack flavour, fish was dry, lobster stuffing nonexistent. The place was packed and the cooks probably overwhelmed with orders but still, you would expect more for the prices they charge. Unless you just want to enjoy a glass of wine on the waterfront, wouldn’t recommend this place.
Amazing location for some Asian Fusion on the Halifax waterfront. Patio view has the Halifax harbour and lighthouse and the tables have fire pits built into them. The food portions are large and with an appetizer and main I couldn't finish it all. The service was excellent and the washrooms one of the cleanest and nicest I have seen so far. If you want a twist on seafood then come here.
Food is ok but Very long wait time for food or drinks. This is the second time I've been there and the wait times are always ridiculous, Waited one hour and a half to recieve our food from the time that we ordered it. Definitely will not be back.
The service was very good and the waiters are kind. Very good presentation of food. We ordered Sushi, rolls .. etc. The food was delicious and they gave us couple of extra rolls. The location is excellent Liked it very much Highly recommended
To expensive for the quality! We really looked forward to going to this restaurant since we moved to Halifax from Ontario this last July. We recently visited and were very disappointed! At first glance, it looks disorganized. It is winter, …
Wonderful experience! Our waiter was very nice and the atmosphere was wonderful! We got a table on the patio and had a great view of the waterfront and the little island. Both mine and my boyfriends meals were amazing, he had the seafood chowder and me the edamame for apps and I had the rack of lamb and he had the surf and turf. Everything was cooked how we had asked and was so very delicious! Dessert menu was a bit lacking for our tastes, but that's fine. I would definitely eat here again!
Great location, the patio is very nice on the water especially if you get a firepit table. The service is great and the quality of the sushi is fantastic.
Meal was delicious..ate inside due to it being very blustery outside....Somehow got .stung by a wasp...
Very relaxed and right on the water I recommend this to any tourist or local just wanting a nice night out kids are lots to do around the area
The best salmon ever!
What a beautiful place. We sat outside on one of the most beautiful summer days. The server was great and our food came as described. Delicious. One has to mention the washrooms. They are very very nice. Very clean and private.
Incredible food, superb service, great ambiance, charming place.
Absolutely loved this place! They had such a great variety of fish and seafood options. Our server Ian was very informative and persuasive about specials and top items. The berry hibiscus cocktail and sea smoke roll as two of the specials were incredible. Coconut crusted scallops are a must too! We loved this place so much that we went back a second time during our weeklong visit and we then had Sara, another incredible server. We had the sea smoke roll again because we enjoyed it so much but also had the Vegas roll and the calamari, all of which were AMAZING. Not only the great staff, but the waterfront location and heated fireplaces in the centre of your table makes for an incredible evening.
Love the atmosphere at Sea Smoke. The mussels were the best and the steak was incredible. Can't wait to go back!
waterfront restaurants are usually over-priced tourist traps, but Sea Smoke is an amazing spot! the sushi and cocktails were amazing while the view of the harbour was gorgeous. it was extremely busy when we went, so it took a while for the food to arrive, but our hostess and server were super friendly and professional. i'd definitely recommend it!
Without a doubt the best Seafood Chowder I have ever had! Friendly and accommodating staff made for a wonderful dining experience. Great place for a quick snack and a pint after a stroll on the harbour front! ????????????????
When I made a reservation I thought it was a Japanese restaurant but it was more. It is upscale, beautiful decor, intimate, calm ambiance. Our waitress was excellent. The food was exquisite. My favorite was the cocktail. One night in Tokyo. It was the best have ever had. Well balanced and I could taste everything. Reasonable and affordable price. I will absolutely visit again.
Wonderful view and delicious sushi.
Shrimp tempura and oysters with sides delicious. Their ceviche sauce for the oysters was amazing. Would have rated 5 stars except it took 45 minutes to receive food order.
Great quality and service. Patio is pet friendly. Our doggy loved. The portion were a bit too small but it’s okay. I hope to be back next time in Halifax
We went here for our anniversary last week and unfortunately we were very disappointed. We were seated promptly but to a table that had not been cleaned yet, egg shells on the table clearly not wiped down at all which is not acceptable with Covid. We got our starter quickly and it was delicious. Drinks were decent but expensive. Then we waited OVER AN HOUR for our mains! My husbands scallops were extremely over cooked… literally rubber, we couldn’t even eat them. They quickly brought us new scallops which were completely RAW AND COLD on the inside! At this point we were so frustrated that we just wanted to leave. They took a whole $6 ???? off the bill because of the scallops. Not impressed and very disappointed in our experience here. We will not be back.
Top notch food quality! Even though I have to wait for a very long time on Saturday night for the dishes to come out, I still give them 5 star for the taste. Especially, the sea smoke tataki (with beef) is amazing; soft and juicy steak in well-seasoned sauce and salad, just skip the side bread. Sea smoke rolls (with salmon sushi) and short ribs are as good as expected. The drink might be a little bit pricey but it is a good companion. Very nice ambiance, and professional staff
It has a beautiful ambience and the service was great. Our food came swiftly and tasted amazing!
Nice service with great food and location
Great place to eat and the food is awesome.
My experience started out great with the hosts managing to accomodate our group of six on the patio in half the time we had been quoted but unfortunately it went downhill from there. Our server, though very polite and very clearly trying her hardest was incredibly overwhelmed by tables and not a single runner/busser or manager seemed to be helping her. After waiting about 45 minutes for the appetizers, they came out 2 at a time (it was not family style) and by the time the last 2 dishes were brought out, the first two were finished. No one came to quality check and I had to go find someone to let them know my fiance's scallops were not cooked through. We then waited for another 30 minutes for our main dishes, 3 steaks, 1 halibut and 2 racks of lamb...the halibut was the only dish cooked properly. 1 steak was Well done and while it came out well done, it was cold. 1 steak was supposed to be Medium Rare and came out Medium Well. 1 steak was medium rare but came out medium (he refused to ask for a fresh one because of the wait time.) Both racks of lamb were cooked to varying levels closer to Well done than the medium rare that had been ordered. Our server took the cold steak to be fixed. Then came back to recook the Medium Rare that was Medium Well and the cold steak was returned hot! And then 10 minutes later they replaced both other steaks that were supposed to be rare and before we could check to make sure they were cooked properly the server was off and running between other tables again. Once we cut into the replacement steaks they were Blue Rare and we went in search of the bill as at this point, 3 people had finished and the other 3 weren't interested in eating anymore. Once we got the bill our server let us know that they had taken off 1 steak and given a discount on one rack of lamb. When we questioned why they hadn't done more when every dish had issues but one. The manager (I think she was a manager, she was British but didn't identify herself) got quite aggressive saying that "clearly, it wasn't inedible because we'd eaten it" in response the the statement that the lamb was inedible. We had tried the lamb pieces to see if any were cooked properly. They weren't. We paid the bill and left to go get food somewhere else. Hopefully this was a one off on a bad night and in the future management will be more proactive in helping servers to ensure issues don't get missed when it is busy.
The food was amazing from the calamari to the Sashimi combo. Fresh and very tasty fish. I also enjoyed the chef's spicy tuna Maki! Service was also excellent.
I would post 0 stars if i could. Patio is nice but that's about it. If you are someone who gets annoyed when you don't get a check back or wait over 20 minutes to get your first drink - this is not the place for you! We wanted more drinks but after 45 min of no check back, that was out of the question. There were way more staff that customers and it was like pulling teeth to get a drink and then to get the bill. Getting the Bill was a nightmare. I had to ask multiple time (4) and eventually had to ask for the manger just to get the bill, who proceeded to ask me what table number I was at.... As if a customer is going to know the table numbers...These are the basics people.. We wont be coming back to this place as there are much better places on the water front with way better service.
Great patio and good service. Food was very good as well, but expect touristy prices.
Food is great, nice staff, we were asked how the food was a bit too many times.
The sushi is delicious and that isn't ever the right word to describe how good it is.
Delicious with a wonderful view and patio! Fresh seafood dishes like seafood and corn chowder and lobster stuffed mushrooms. Excellent sushi dishes. Fantastic jasmine tea infused sticky ribs. Cocktails are great too!
Enjoyed lunch on a sunny Friday. Sushi and lobster stuffed mushrooms were amazing. Measures in place due to Covid-19 restrictions were reasonable and carefully explained. Service was great and appropriate.
Food was delicious and the cocktails were amazing ! Perfect storm was the perfect storm of flavour in your mouth. Ian was a great host and really good personality.
Relaxing atmosphere, comfy seating, great views and amazingly fresh seafood prepared in an artful fashion. Service was friendly and attentive but not overbearing. We will be back.
Very good!! We would recommend this restaurant if you enjoy Sushi and great views of the harbour. No gluten free dessert which was disappointing.
Meal type
Some of the best sushi I have ever had. We sat at a fire table which really helped us keep warm. We all had different cocktails and we're incredibly impressed. Can't wait to bring all of my friends and family here!
Sarah was my server and she made the experience a 10/10 for me! She was very personable yet also professional at the same time. It was my first time visiting Sea Smoke, and she gave me very very good recommendations. I had the fish and chips for lunch and it was by far the best fish and chips I’ve had in Halifax! Excellent breading and great taste! I’ll absolutely be back
Dropped in unplanned for a bite mid-afternnon on a sunny Saturday. We had fish and chips and sushi and enjoyed both. They found out it was my birthday and gave us a free dessert, which was lovely. Friendly and timely service also. Will definitely come back with the family for a proper dinner.
Great location on the Halifax harbour with rather large outdoor patio. The food was very good, lots of flavour. We ordered the lobster stuffed haddock, the Chicken Thai and fish chowder, all delicious.
Good atmosphere and food but unfortunately, the worst service. Had to wait longer than 1 hour to get our food while people who arrived much later were being served. (Just ordered some rolls and that what other tables after us were getting) Seeing that the restaurant wasn’t that busy, they definitely messed up the order taking but would not admit nor apologize and were just told “thanks for being patient”. They did give us 15% off our bill but would have much preferred an apology and an explanation. Would not return and can not recommend. It is a shame considering their food was decent.
Very nice patio. Some tables have fire in the middle and that actually keeps the whole patio warm on a cool evening. Had the lobster stuffed mushrooms and beef tataki which were very good. Chicken rendang was surprisingly flavourful although a bit lacking in salt. Fusion sushi was VERY good. Portions are large. They have a kids menu too.
Super good but very expensive
Amazing view and right on the boardwalk. In an active area of the landing and lots of exciting people and water watching.
Went during happy hour. Beautiful ocean front patio and the doggie was allowed. Beer was cheaper. Had Sushi. Very good. Service was also excellent. Please note that this review was from patio dining. I was not inside.
The outdoor propane fire pit seating is awesome..
Service and view were wonderful. Very delicious food, only not 5 star as the lobster was just a bit overcooked and they left the vein in one. All the rest was deliciously amazing and worth the price!
Great atmosphere!
Amazing place and awesome sushi. The black Mamba roll is the best... Freshest sushi in Halifax.
Excellent sushi, and a great view being right on the harbour boardwalk. We had an amazing seat with great views of Halifax Harbour.
Nice to sit outside with heaters at almost every table. Just stopped for a wine, but the food looked delicious. I'm definitely going back.
Great food and service.
My favourite Halifax restaurant. Great food. Well rounded wine list and comforting ambiance. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Love sitting outside watching people and pets sauntering by. Just an all round fun place.
Sooo good! The service is very good.
Great service & atmosphere - drinks were good too! Food was pricey (ish) for the portions, but understandable considering the prime location on the waterfront. Thanks for a great meal! This is the black Memba sushi fusion roll and it was unlike any other sushi I’ve had!
Not really the type of place you'd think of for vegans/vegetarians, but we had guests from Alberta craving oysters and a lobster roll so we went anyway. There aren't a lot of vegan options on the menu (I mean it is a seafood place) but what they do have I really enjoyed. Both partner and I had the vegan sushi roll and the vegetarian Poke bowl. "The Vegan" as the roll was called, was absolutely delightful and very high quality...beautifully presented as well. The vegan version of the poke bowl had a lot of flavor but not a lot of substance as it was really just some chopped veg over sushi rice. Some tofu would have been nice. Our guest from AB who had the lobster roll was really impressed as it was huge. We brought seafood-averse kiddos along who enjoyed their burgers as well. Would definitely go back again just for the vegan roll as it was a good price and very tasty
Everything was tasty and delicious ! Many gluten free options. The staff was lovely. The waterfront patio is amazing and the tables with the little fire in them were a very nice touch. Great experience overall ! Would recommend to anyone !
Fantastic ambience and a unique menu make this a go to location. The fact that you can enjoy a meal by the sea with a firepit makes this a must visit restaurant for tourists and locals alike.
We had a wonderful experience! We’ll be back!
One of the worst establishments I’ve eaten at. The coconut scallops cam totally cold and tasted like vinegar. Sent them back. Two different salads were terrible. Not sure what the tempura shrimp was but it was closer to slimy chicken dumplings than tempura shrimp. Expensive. So many better places in Halifax than this.
Great sushi and sashimi. Great service
Really cool spot. Bartenders are friendly, and knowledgeable. Staff are attentive and extremely attractive. Diverse menu with local ingredients and booze. Sushi chefs will bid you a good day. Great food and a true jewel of the Halifax waterfront.
Service
The food was phenomenal. The tuna crispy rice was one of the best dishes I have ever had in my life. The server was very nice, and the atmosphere was perfect -- dim lighting overlooking the Harbour. Sea Smoke has a dedicated fan now!
Excellent service. Food was different and excellent. Best sushi !!! Just opened a month ago. Atmosphere is great. Would recommend !
Awesome location and atmosphere. The food is a bit on the pricey side but worth it
Visited here a number of weeks ago with a friend from out of town. We wanted a special seafood experience and Sea Smoke delivered! Lovely time out on the patio with the flame tables. Our server Adam was a wonderful guide for some of the greatest sushi I have ever had and some extraordinarily fresh tuna sashimi, in addition to nice lobster, mushroom caps and more.
What an absolute gem of a place. Enjoyed everything about this wonderful spot. Cannot wait to get back to try more things off the menu
Had some excellent appetizers and a few drinks...Really enjoyed my lobster stuffed mushrooms and other great sushi dishes..my favorite spot on the Halifax Harbour
This place has one of the best sushis you’ll ever have BUT you have to order the right thing! Order the sea smoke roll and black mamba, you will not be disappointed!!
As someone who was a little apprehensive eating here due to a seafood allergy, I was very pleased with my experience! My friends and I enjoyed some great beverages in the sun while lounging on the boardwalk eating area. I ordered the steak and fries and it was one of the best tasting steaks I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection. The servers were very friendly and our food was out in no time.
I had a good time because I was in vacation mode with my husband and it was our last night in Halifax, but the food was disappointing. Our waitress was kind, friendly and helpful, but you could tell it was too busy for the staff. I had ordered the seafood stew and everything, except the rice, was overcooked. My husband had the stuffed haddock and it was nothing to rave about. We should have stuck to the sushi and appetizers as those were the only good food items that we had that night. I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying the restaurant out because it is my the water and the patio is set up nicely, but be very specific how you like your main course and maybe just go for appetizers and drinks. It was disappointing for our last dinner in the city.
Great atmosphere in this harbour restaurant. Small firepits give out so much warmth we were able to sit comfortably outside in temperature of 3C. Food was great, too, we had surf and turf and both, steak and lobster tail, were beautifully melt in your mouth. Stuffed haddock in a banana leave was great too! The service was a little slow but the place was busy so that is understandable. Would go back for sure.
Good menu selection and, on a chilly night, the fire tables are lovely.
Dropped in for drinks during happy hour. The cocktail of the day was perfection. Add in friendly and knowledgeable service, beautiful harbour views, and warm summer weather - it was the best!
I frequent this restaurant via boat and tie up about 30 meters from the outside seating area . I find the staff , manager and owner very eager to please and offer up a good experience . Usually I go there with friends but because of the weather for traveling yesterday my friends do not arrive but I enjoyed a three hour meal starting of course with a beverage , appetizer , main , desert and finally a coffee . The food and presentation was excellent and the atmosphere was extremely friendly amongst the patrons of which many on the patio at least were from away. Many were sharing their taste experiences and recommendations to fellow patrons . I had the perfect spot to watch and talk to see the boats arriving and of course my vessel was within view giving a good sense of security for my docking . I highly recommend Sea Smoke to my fellow boaters as there is plenty of dockage for this highly relaxing experience , no rush , excellent choice of freshly prepared food and friendly staff. I got the distinct impression from the owner Zoey and manager Shelly that their focus was on all of the above . If you have the time to want to relax or need to relax consider visiting this place. The meal cost is more than reasonable for the experiences that you can share Tom Giovannetti T
Good food. Decent price. Nice atmosphere by the water. When it gets cool, they offer blankets and heat lamps.
There's a large patio right on the waterfront and the food is great. The seafood chowder is a must have for anyone in the area.
Wonderful meal.
Fantastic food... we will definitely be going back again
I’ve been here twice now and both times I have left with a smile on my face! Best sushi in Halifax, in my opinion. Hard to go to an all you can eat after you’ve been to Sea Smoke! I will definitely be back again!
Delightful patio with lots of shade for a hot summer lunch. Try the shrimp tempura! Fish and chips were lovely and lots of good reactions to the maki around the table.
Fantastic choice on the Halifax waterfront just down from Bishop's wine shop. Great sushi with the exceptional views of the waterfront .
Great food and drinks with an unrivaled view of the harbor. Had the chower last summer and loved it, so I returned this summer to try a bulk of the table shareables.
We had a reservation at 9h, we waited 1 hour in line to get seated and 4 groups of people without reservation went on to be seated before us..
Just stopped in for a beer. The staff was still setting up for lunch. Nice place. Upscale.
What a wonderful restaurant!! The staff were incredible, they really went above and beyond. They had to deal with a very rude and difficult table next to us and did a great job. The food was some of the best I have ever eaten. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Despite the food and location being fairly decent the service left a lot to be desired. It was our last night in Halifax and we had other plans after so the food taking over an hour to come out really ruined the plans for the rest of the night. Don’t even get me started on those dumb fire pit tables either
The staff are always amazing- my favorite place in the city ❤
Great food, great selection of beer, and our waitress, jenna was excellent!
Great service, food was quick and fresh. Would definitely recommend.
Amazing sushi on the beautiful Halifax waterfront. Also have a great non-sushi menu like a Korean Burger (cannot remember exact title but great flavours!). Great place to stop while walking up and down the boardwalk on the waterfront.
Got the seafood skillet for $50 and stuffed mushrooms. The ambience with the little fire pet, overlooking the water created a cute little romantic evening. Dog friendly!!!
We had the "Dine Around" specials. Haddock was like cafeteria food, about on a par with an airline meal. It was overcooked. I sent it back and the service was very professional about bringing me another meal. The apps were good but wasn't getting a Japanese vibe. The steak was good. Ordered medium rare and received rare, a mistake we were willing to roll with. Our table was lovely, service was very good, but the food was disappointing.
Great sushi choices, the ambiance is very warm, best place for having dinner with your love ones.
My family was there with another family on Monday, the day after Canada day. The decor, the ambiance, the attention to detail were splendid. The food was even better. Between all of us we covered most of the menu. My favorites were the Titanic and Holy Dynamite rolls. I very much look forward to trying everything on the menu and simply enjoying the atmosphere again and again.
Nice place, beautiful view, better food and drinks. Fire place at the outside patio to keep you warm. Very friendly staff. A MUST place to visit and have drink in Halifax.
They had no idea how to cook Japanese rolls. They were awful. It looked like their cook was an intern
Sushi was very good and shareable. Also ordered asian styled ribs but they weren't flavorful. What made up for it was the view of the beautiful waterfront and weather.
This place has the perfect combination of food, great customer service and ambience. During the early fall months, you can sit on the patio where they have blankets and and a fire pit and enjoy a good meal. The staff are friendly and courteous. They serve fresh sea food and sushi.
Delicious fresh food. Service could have been better. I must have got the neglected section. Great atmosphere and nice place to people watch. The drinks were deadly and had a cool presentation that i didn’t get to capture
What a great spot. The mussels were superb and the spicy fish & chips was very good. All with a hint of spiciness. All in all, couldn't be happier with a spontaneous drop in for what started out as only to have a beer on this beautiful Sunday. We found all the staff to be very pleasant and helpful and our waiter maintained a very good balance of attention. The ambience couldn't be better than sitting outside on the Halifax waterfront on a warm, sunny day. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Fantastic food and service. Huddled under an umbrella infront of a fire on a dreary drizzly day for some delicious muscles, lobster roll and scallops. Helped turn the day around. Great experience!
Good food and service; plus a great waterfront view!
Amazing presentation along with great tasty food, service and amazing view of the waterfront. Would highly recommend this place.
Service was good. The food is mediocre at best. I ordered the lobster skillet. It tasted like sweet and sour mixed veggies. Mussels taste like it was from a chinese buffet restaurant. Ordered a Roku Gin and tonic double and there was literally all tonic and a table spoon of gin for 19 bucks. My friend ordered Grey Goose and soda double which he said taste the same.
I was walking by and decided to drop in for something light. I then had the most delicious lobster rolls I've ever had in my life!!! Even chatted with the manager while I ate. Excellent place with great music!!!
Great and friendly service Great food! No waiting.
Gorgeous meal served by the most kind staff. We will be back and would recommend for sure! Had many different dishes and all over exceeded my expectations for presentation and taste.
Good place to enjoy seafood and people watch on their large outdoor patio space. We went to Sea Smoke on a Sat and luckily got seated outdoors. We ordered and got our drinks (cider) pretty quickly, but it took over 45 minutes to get our food, so be prepared to wait. Our 1 calamari, 1 sushi, and 1 drink cost over $50, so it is a bit on the pricer side. Food was good and it’s a nice alternative option from all the other two Italian restaurants nearby.
Excellent food. Excellent service
Lobster stuffed mushrooms were terrible. Anyone can make stuffed mushrooms with cream cheese, onions, garlic and mayo that would put the sea Smoke resturant version to shame. Fries were bad, no one wants a bunch of end pieces that are hard and dry. Taco were not very good either. All in all i would not order anything else after our meal.
Really good! And dog friendly.
Completed my maritime stay. The lovely server guided me through my first taste of oysters (sooooo good!), our scallops were melt in your mouth good. Cocktails were amazing. For dinner we both had the stuffed haddock - just awesome! My dinner partner had the risotto which was a bit of a miss, but my mashed potatoes were delish! The view over the water and decor wrapped up a wonderful evening.
Awesome service, prices are decent, oysters are awesome. Excellent Happy Hour menu too!
Cold and windy the day we went. Service was excellent but slow. Chowder and mussels were average. Lobster rolls lacked imagination. Over priced.
Great meal, ask to be seated on the patio and you'll get picture perfect views of the harbour. Ask them to get the fire pit started, a true treat. Tasty cocktails, gigantic oysters and you need to try their rolls. The meal was superb, the attention to details impeccable. A word of caution, please do not expect the happy hour to be a true happy hour, a mere 15% off across selected items only. The experience won't come cheap but personally I thought it was worth it. I'd highly recommend it.
Great experience! It is on the pricier side, so this was more like a special holiday dinner to learn more about this restaurant. Based on the other reviews, I was a little wary of the service, but our server was amazing, very kind and helpful, and the overall experience took 2 hours (found the food was served in a timely manner, not too fast and not too slow). The food that we got was all very tasty, except maybe the sundae I had, but we communicated very well with the server on this matter. Definitely recommend it! For more context, we got the sharing board, the halibut entree, the sushi Sea Smoke and Black Mamba (the mamba one is by far the best sushi I've tried in Halifax), and the toffee pudding/cake + sundae.
Mediocre sushi. I ordered the Derakkusu Sushi combo and Chef’s Spicy Tuna. The sashimi on the nigiri was dried and flaky, the unagi (eel) was cold and hard. The roll was average. Any regular sushi joint can do better than this. The only good things were the waterfront view and the heated patio.
Gideon is great!!! Wonderful service and the best cocktails ever!!! Great spot to have lunch or dinner on the waterfront
A little over priced for what is being served. It took an extremely long time for everything to come; drinks, appetizers and the entrees. Ordered the mussles first and they were tasty. For the entrees, we ordered surf and turf and my partner ordered the tenderloin, we both asked for the tenderloin to be cooked medium and mine was well done and his was rare. The lobster tail that came with the surf and turf was extremely small and chewy.
The food is good. Unfortunately the service is not. In terms of value for quality of food, it is somewhat expensive but not completely out of line. However, the staff was rude, bordering on hostile after we experienced extremely long wait times for service. Our preliminary drinks took over twenty minutes to arrive and subsequent requests for things like water were similarly late. One forlorn male waiter seemed to be embarassed by the situation but he seemed to be held hostage to the capriciously lax standards of the junior staff. There are very good restaurants nearby.
The sushi is good, but the waiting time to get it ready for you is really big. Some staff are nice some are not so friendly
Highly recommend the Black Mamba roll. Very good service.
Food was great, service was great, definitely will be back
Food was excellent, service wasn't great. After our food came the server didn't come back to check in so we didn't get more drinks despite wanting to order them.
Very nice place. It was great to have a warm cup of soup on a cool day. Prices are in the higher range but delicious.
I ordered Poke Bowl (with beef), which was served with tiny bit of seaweed (EDIT: I keep trying to upload my photo but Google won't let me). At first look I was disappointed about the amount I was served at the price of $20+. But I disregarded it, because if it tastes good I really don't care about the amount and price. However, the rice was too sour to eat. Just from smelling it I could feel the sourness in my dish. I just could not continue eating. I asked for plain rice. While I was waiting for the dish, other people finished their's and I was too tired to continue (it was late night). So instead I asked to please have it in a To-go box. The server told me that the chef must have used Sushi rice instead and apologized. Next day morning, I tried to eat the remaining food. When I microwaved it, the rice became too hard to eat. Most rice, when it is in it's plain steamed form, don't become like this when heated. This mostly happens when there is added ingredients, say vinegar, to it (from my name you can pretty much see that I am Asian so I know my stuff :D ). Not to mention that the seaweed had painted rice to green, which dropped my appetite to zero. Now think back to yesterday... the server told me the chef used Sushi rice so that's why it was too sour (added vinegar). I asked for plain rice, and yet I still got Sushi rice in my dish again? I had to throw out all of my food because it simply was not edible. There vanished my $20+ dollars in just 3 bites or less.
Pricey for sushi considering the other options in the city, but the meal was good nonetheless. Very good atmosphere.
Great lobster roll. Great service.
Pretty expensive but a great place to go, especially if you want to sit outside around the cool fire tables. We always get the sushi and the quality is very high. It's a unique experience on the Halifax waterfront with a great view of the harbor.
Service maybe a tad slow but good. Food is cha-ching but delicious. The fusion rolls were amazing. I have had better mussels but that's just preference. Beautiful spot on the waterfront.
The food was fantastic as well as our server (annie). She was prompt, knowledgeable and kind. I would highly recommend coming and people/dog watching for a while on the patio.
The atmosphere and food where fabulous. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and made a perfect menu selection for our group.
Great family meal!
Excellent meal, and wonderful happy hour deals! Definitely worth checking out with friends or for a romantic date! :)
Me and my girlfriend went here for our anniversary and I don't think anywhere else could have made our night so amazing! Staff, service, food, and atmosphere where all perfect
Food is ok but the wait time for food or drinks is crazy long. Also the prices are not the best, it is pretty expensive. Definitely will not be back.
Dine in
Very impressed with this restaurant. The food was delicious and very well priced. $6 doubles during happy hour and a beautiful firelit patio area with complimentary furs to use.
What a wonderful venue to take in the sights and sounds of the harbor while eating delicious food (we tried the lobster sliders, the mussels & the sushi) while enjoying our delicious cocktails and wine!
We have been craving good sushi since we moved to NS and finally found it! We decided to stop by Sea Smoke as part of Dine Around. Really impressed by the quality and quantity for the price! We had a dynamite roll, a lobster roll, a sweet potato roll, and a spicy tuna roll. Each one was delicious. We also tried the lobster stuffed mushrooms ahead of sushi and were pleasantly surprised at how chunky the lobster meat was (there was plenty in the lobster sushi roll too!). It was really thoughtful for them to offer dessert to anyone who doesnt drink. I didnt have room for the red velvet cake but brought it home. Cant wait to eat it!
I would recommend this restaurant for the following reasons: - Dining right on the waterfront; - The fish is locally sourced and you can taste the difference; - The Black Mamba roll is incredibly delicious.
Loved everything about this restaurant, the food the staff and the view. We were here for a special occasion and was made to feel very special by the staff and the manager. Can’t wait to return to this restaurant!
Amazing food and location. Asian fusion menu with sushi and modern seafood dishes. It sits right on the harbour walk with a large patio and heaters! One issue - the bathrooms are public so there gross! They need private bathrooms.
Great meal for dine around. Great piece and excellent value.
Intimate setting, great decor, informative service, and best of all .. mouth watering food. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're near the waterfront!!
Amazing service and even better food, with a beautiful patio. Here on vacation and one of my favorite places
Was absolutely AMAZING. Staff were super friendly, food was wonderful - started outdoors on the patio, and they accommodated by moving us indoors when we got a slight chill. The sushi is absolutely phenomenal, but I must say, the rock shrimp tempura and tuna crispy rice from the table shares are THHHHEEEEEE best. Can't wait to try more. ????
Visited this place for the first time ever! Not only was the ambience and food amazing, our server Tyson made our night! He walked us through the menu and helped us make our selections. He also helped us pick drinks which were local beers. Friendly, personable, and great server overall!
Great idea with outside fires, food value for money, not cheap. Good service
I can't wait to go again, beautiful place, excellent service, amazing sea food! With an excellent decoration, especially the tables with fire in the middle.....I love it
Rosé, lobster roll and mushroom soup were to die for. View isn’t half bad either ????
The food is really, really good - at a good price point as well! Their wok-fried veggies have this incredible subtle sweet taste and the fish was perfect. I understand the other reviews on not being served quickly. This place is only a few months old - and they have some kinks to work out. But outrageously friendly staff and high quality meals mean they're headed in the right direction.????
Delicious !!
The best sushi rolls I've ever had, and I've eaten many. The waterfront setting is also very nice, and the atmosphere is classy and inviting. This has become a favourite spot of mine, and is the place I recommend to friends/guests who like sushi. A little costly, but the quality is well worth it.
The view was great! It was a perfect venue for this restaurant. I am a very picky eater so I was worried about what I would eat. After reading the menu, I found a dish that I was excited to eat! Once my meal arrived I was very impressed with the presentation of the dish. The food tasted great, with the small dislike of the slight seafood flavour on my broccoli, and we ordered a dessert. We didn't get a picture of this plate because the pyramid of layered chocolate mousse looked too delicious to wait. Our server was very good. The table beside us had this one customer that was very frustrating, and she dealt with it very well. She seemed very relaxed and had great interactions with all of her customers. I do recommend eating here. It is slightly expensive, but it between the meal, atmosphere, and view, it was definitely worth it!
Was looking for a sushi place and we found a great one, right on the water front. Great sushi, and friendly staff. Will definitely come back. We were so surprised by the presentation of our food
My friend and I came to the restaurant for burger week, excited to try their feature. We were really hoping to get a seat on the patio, but there were only four tables which were all occupied. Anyway, once we were seated inside and provided menus, we genuinely waited 20 minutes for a server. When she finally arrived to the table (I’m pretty sure her shift had just began at this point) I explained to her we hadn’t seen a server and she apologized and offered to get us some water. It took about 10 more minutes for water to come to the table. At the time we ordered our burgers and waited a reasonable 15-20 minutes for our food. The bartender ran the food to us. After the first few bites we realized we were literally served two completely plain burgers topped with onion rings? (Seen in the photo). We waited for our server for about 10-15 minutes until she came to meal check us when we pointed out that the burger was missing the advertised ingredients and was totally plain. She immediately took our plates back to the kitchen, but didn’t bother to ask whether or not we actually wanted a remake? At that point I was pretty fed up and ready to leave but now we had to wait again for the kitchen to remake the food we didn’t really want anymore. In the end the server apologized profusely for the mistakes but she really didn’t make our table a priority as it stilll took forever to get our bills and leave. I was hoping to come here for a nice meal in the future but if they can’t even do burgers right this place is so understaffed that I can’t be greeted by a server for 20 minutes... I don’t really see myself returning ever again. Such a shame as this renovated location is beautiful!
Loved the experience and the food. We had the coconut sea scallops, smoked salmon sushi and sweet potato sushi.
Meal type
Awesome fire tables kept us warm. Happy hour classic maki roles. A+
Best lobster dinner!
The price of here food was high for this ttime of year and not a big variety on there menu
Super good food definitely recommend it
Food was off the charts here , prices reasonable, staff and management excellent will be going back for again and again keep up the great work guy's....!
Black mamba is the best sushi on the menu!!!!!
Great sushi! Amazing outdoor dining experience right on the waterfront. Wonderful staff!
loved it here, the sushi was so delicious, nice and fresh. service was great. definitely ordering the tiger lily again!
Sat on the patio enjoying the sun. One of the best Calamari we have ever had.
Wonderful and yummy sushi. Staff let my friend stay at the table for 2 hrs while I attended an appointment close by! :) ep
It was excellent for me. The service was very attentive and friendly. I had the fish and chips and a pint of beer on the patio. The fish and chips was fantastic. The patio was overlooking the harbour and a great place to view the boardwalk and relax.
Amazing view, delicious food, and perfect service. The staff are so kind too.
Great food. Sushi rolls are large and have lots of flavor.
We didn't eat much at the Sea Smoke, so I can't really review the food, other than to say that our Digby scallop maki rolls were excellent, and everything we saw being brought to other tables looked and smelled delicious. What I can comment is the genius if the bartenders, who create a cocktail if the day for happy hour. Yesterday's and today's were home runs. I will be back tomorrow to see what else they have dreamed up.
Great place to chill and drink plus great view from the patio. But don't order any food, its not the best if I have to put it nicely.
Sushis excellent , calamars , Lobster and snow crab frais . All very good , Love it .
Night started off by my waitress spilling so much of my drink on me that it soaked through my dress and ran down my leg; fine, she apologized, but after that the service was equally garbage. From start to finish it took about two hours to have drinks and recieve our food, 23 mins to get out first drink. We had to ask our waitress to stop twice just to order food. The food was mediocre and we had 6 different dishes. What was left of my drink was good, I was not given a new one nor was it removed from my bill. We weren't given refills on water and we were not given chopsticks for our sushi until later after we started eating with our hands. We will never go here again and we eat out often. We've also been to most restaurants in the city and this was by far the worst experience we've ever had as a couple.
This place actually made me write a review. Would love to give them 0 Star if allowed. Worst restaurant I have been in several years.
First time, good was delicious. Amazing flavors and you could taste the quality of the fish. Service was great and the drink was delicious. Great birthday lunch in the sun. Will definitely be back.
