As you can read, it reaches an opinions average is quite good, and it is based on a very high number of reviews, so we can conclude that the valuation is very credible. If there are many people who bothered to give their review when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to place reviews when these are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Fish Shop is included in the category of Seafood restaurant.
Heard good things about this place but felt the lobster roll was definitely lacking.
A lovely little restaurant, excellent, heart felt service and simple but deliciously fresh food.
Excellent place for seafood in Halifax! Recommend it.
Best view Delicious food Fresh food Wonderful experience
Food and service was very bad. For a “fancy” restaurant on the Halifax waterfront I would not recommend. FOOD: The fish and chips had no flavour and left hands, plates and table extremely greasy. The grilled chicken wrap was ice cold and comparable to a sobeys wrap. SERVICE: Server was uninterested in her work.. no personality and told us “ she had not tried any of the food before”. The table was not equip with salt, pepper napkins or ketchup which you'd need a lot of.. see FOOD above ^^. All in all a very disappointing night not to mention overpriced for value.. What has happened to Halifax cuisine ? All this time off during Covid has clearly not helped our restaurants. There is a lack of pride and effort it seems.
Excellent food and service. Will return.
Nice view with decent food
The meal I had was SEAFOOD PASTA • 23.99. Tasted good, but there was one scallop sliced thin into about four pieces like 25c size(never seen this before), one shrimp, 5 mussels and some small pieces of salmon (like the size of a dime) haddock.... maybe. No bread comes with the meal!!! For 24 bucks add some bread for christ sakes, something to fill your gut with at least, all pasta should have bread served with it. All other restaurants do this. Very sad, pathetic and will never eat there again. Good luck running a restaurant like this, just a money grab. No customer satisfaction at all, very disappointed.
Stopped in for lunch it was great - seafood pasta was excellent as was the corn bread. Highly recommend when in Halifax
worst lobster I ever had. was not clean at all and had no taste at all. was covered in pink paste and my plate was full of water from the lobster. I couldn't stomach it. ended up going to shucks restaurant and that was amazing.
Sat on the boardwalk patio. Great spot
What a wonderful experience! It was my first time in Halifax and Salty's was recommended as a "must see" and they did not disappoint! It has such a wonderful view and it really is a magical place. If you are hungry, I highly recommend the 2 lb lobster. It was so fresh and delicious and set the bar for the rest of my seafood meals while visiting.
We were in town last year for the Memorial Cup and my son wanted to try some authentic Halifax lobster. This did not disappoint. Amazing food, atmosphere, view and service. Highly recommended.
I had dinner with a friend at Salty's recently. We used one of their coupons from the local newspaper. The value of the two-for-one coupon (two mains for the price of one) was $29 which, when deducted, left us with a balance of four times the discount. The discount is most certainly a welcome thing, but don't be fooled into thinking it will make a significant difference in the total cost of your meal. That $29 discount seemed to disappear when drinks (1 beer and 1 glass of wine only), appetizers and desserts were added! If you're looking for inexpensive, this isn't it. Having said that, I must also say that the service was excellent and the food top notch, (the scallops were perfection). The view of the harbour is lovely, appealing to locals and visitors alike. Because the upstairs dining room is not accessible to those who are handicapped, the only option for those who are is to eat in the pub/restaurant downstairs, adequate and less expensive, but not quite as nice as the dining room especially for celebratory occasions. This is a place I would recommend to those looking for beautifully cooked and presented food, especially seafood, who aren't counting the cost.
Excellent view, the waitress was very kind and the view is great! The portion was small, but I guess it's expected of such restaurants with a view of the ocean.
One star for the excellent staff, another star for the location, and the last one for the scallops. We ordered calamari ($14) + seafood platter to share ($34). Both in terms of quality and quantity were not up to par with how it was priced in my opinion. The calamari was tender but small in terms of actual size (there wasn't a lot either and we only had two of us sharing this). The platter consisted of half a lobster (very disappointed by the lobster considering we're from Toronto so we don't even have high standards when it comes to lobster), 3 small scallops (despite the size, tasted very good! Melts in your mouth), one fried haddock (was ok, very skinny), three medium shrimps (decent), with two sides (potato salad and coleslaw - both were ok). Overall, wasn't worth the $70 (husband had a beer too which he says was just ok), we paid considering we were still hungry after.
Dinner
Great atmosphere. Really enjoyed getting a booth overlooking the water. The food was tasty and the desserts were amazing. I really enjoyed the gingerbread cake served warm with ice cream - yummy! The wines are a bit pricey. We ordered the same bottle of wine at a different restaurant for $10 less. Overall it was a nice evening.
One of our favorates and must do when visiting Halifax
Overall it was ok. Didn’t have the wine that was on the list, so we tried a different kind, no problem. Ordered some appetizers. Bacon wrapped scallops to start were good, mussels after were cold. All good though they heated them up in microwave, not sure if I’d do that? Server never asked how the food was, but did ask if we needed change when I paid. Maybe it was an off day. We may give it another try next time we are in town. Definitely a great view of the harbour and the host was very friendly and put us at an excellent table.
Mussels and drinks overlooking the harbour was lovely!!!
Good food, great service
Food was very good. 6 people all ordered something different. Service and veiw were great. We will be back
Breanna was excellent again. Year after year this girl is sharp and on the ball. Never a problem when she is serving you and her knowledge of the menu is so helpful. Personality plus.
Very excellent experience, would be a five star, just the cost was a bit much in muly opinion.
Very good food and an amazing waterfront view
In the competition for best seafood restaurant in Halifax, my one visit suggests that Salty's is at least neck and neck with the best, if not a smidgen ahead. A bit pricey, but with superb food. Nice ambience too.
Beautiful view of the Harbour, good environment, and good food!
This place the best chowder on the waterfront, order it. Amazing and large patio on the boardwalk it's worth the trip.
Clean building with a nice view and a good amount of space. The chowder was not creamy enough… a bit watery but had a generous amount of seafood in it… 3/5 Cornbread was pretty good… 4/5 Calamari was fantastic especially the sauce that came with it… 5/5 Staff was pleasant… 5/5
I don't understand how this place has such a high rating... Is it the patio on the waterfront that people like?? The food was 'ok' at best, we joked that this place was called Salty's but lacked taste and salt in their dishes. Definetely overpriced for the quality. If you have the option, head down the road to the Bicycle Thief...
The food was quite good. Had the lobster chowder which unfortunately had no spices in it but had quite a bit of lobster which was a relief at $17 a pop. The fish casserole was delightful. The best parts of my visit; the view and the service which where both immaculate.
I am a local author of the novel Newbia and today my husband and I returned to Salty's for our second visit. Where we were greeted with a warm welcome. Our waiter Curtis, provided outstanding customer service and was also a great conversationalist. The food was superb and I recommend this restaurant to any and all who have a chance to explore our great city of Halifax‼️ #authorofNewbia Chelee Cromwell
It was our first visit to Salty’s and we had our dog with us, hoping to sit on the patio. The manager graciously accommodated us and let our boy sit on the patio with us. The food was very good as was the service. We will be back!!
It's always been a great spot for a date night. Amazing food and its right off the water on the boardwalk. Their 4 course meal is definitely worth a try!
Eat: at a table next to the water. Experience: lobster roll, “market price”. Served on a croissant which is my preference. Salad filled the space on the plate, if served with fries it lacks in presentation. Expect avian visitors. Friendly service.
Fine food but nothing special. The ambiance lacks significantly especially the upper level. I had the halibut with risotto for about $ 39. Tasty but not worth the price. Service was efficient and prompt.
Excellent food! A bit on the pricier side but worth it. Lobster roll, fish & chips, pitcher of ???? $100.00.
The patio is great, but I would give it three stars for the following reasons. First the food was average, second the service was a bit slow and third the wine list is small. All the 6 people at the table agree with the review.
GREAT SEAFOOD ????????????????????????????
Everything was good, waitress very friendly. Just nothing outstanding about the experience
Awesome experience here. I was accidentally served a lobster with eggs in it, was then brought a fresh new lobster, and got compensated on my bill! Very happy with the service here. Super quick and delicious!
Great place to eat. Loved the fish and chips and the waiter even let me upgrade my order mid stream of eating. Very friendly accommodating staff. I would go back in a heartbeat.
We had a wonderful drink on the patio overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Highly recommend a patio table if one is available, you won’t be disappointed.
Was told that this place had a lot of seafood so we gave it a try. Of the three varieties we chose we feel the crab cakes were the winner over the shrimp dish & the fish tacos. Service was decent and the restaurant was busy. We got our orders in and surprised how quick we got our food.
Good food and atmosphere
I had the squid and the halibut on a lobster mash. I thought that fare was excellent. The squid was deep fried with a very spicy sauce which was a change from the standard pan fried I am used to. I like tasty foods so I loved this calamari. The staff were more than happy with us splittong this and did not make us feel uncomfortable. ???? The fish was thick, succulent and generous and on a good bed of lobster mash. A small side of vegetables was adequate. New Zealand Monkey Bay sauvignon blanc rounded off the meal. Service went more than excellent the with the waitress really taking an interest in us. Next to us was a family with 4 well behaved happy children. The staff interacted well with then. All in all a delightful evening.
Popped in this summer for a pitcher of Keith's on the waterfront. The menu looked good, but I didn't have a chance to try anything. The service was very good, and the location was incredible. Was fortunate enough to be there before tourists had returned and it was quite quiet. Very much enjoyed my time.
Service and food were great. Covid protocol was followed and we felt safe3.????????
Portion size too small...The crab cakes were the size of carrom board coins and rest of the plate is filled with salad. So was not satisfied. Price was on the higher side but that is ok as long as the portion size is good.
Sea food is amazing!
Bit of a dive bar but the band was really good, the staff were friendly and prompt with the service!
Great Food and Very Friendly Staff, Highly Recommended.
Pretty good food and atmosphere
Service
*Review based on Salty's Upstairs* Seafood | Full Bar | Upstairs & Downstairs menu | Waterfront view This is one of the many restaurants that was highly suggested in every tourist booklets, pamphlets and online referrals for good Halifax food. This review is based on the Salty's upstairs menu (different from downstairs). We had my birthday dinner upstairs with a reservation for 7pm (they close at 9pm). They waited till mine and another table was leaving before they started packing up at about 9:37pm. They did not try to rush us or say anything to push us out of the restaurant although they were already closed (sorry!) Unfortunately during the night time it is hard to see the beautiful waterfront review although we were seated next to the window. Our server Karl, was professional, amazing, super sweet and kind to us. He came back to check up on us every single time and made sure my glass was filled. He also split our Lobster Chowder for us into two seperate his for ease of enjoyment. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean overall. Covid protocols in place. --- Food --- Complimentary bread & butter: The butter was good and smooth but the bread was a bit too hard. Nova Scotia L'Acadie Blanc 2019 white wine: Local, dry and good at a good price. Oysters ($3 ea.) Originally we ordered only half a dozen but after that we ordered another half mode dozen because they were so good and fresh! Nova Scotia Mussels: Buttery and fresh. I shared half with my husband and about two or three of them had sand in it. It was good but not amazing. The base was just all butter, didn't have to dip with bread. Nova Scotia Lobster Chowder (priced daily, at the moment it was $18): It was nice and creamy and loaded with ingredients. There were so many small pieces of lobster meat I had a piece with every bite. But for myself I feel like there was a tad bit too much potato melted into the soup. I could be just to use to regular creamy seafood/clam chowder. Panko crusted haddock with mashed potatoes & green beans: The haddock was nicely done, not too oily. The green beans were okay. The mashed potatoes tasted a bit funny to me I wasn't sure what seasoning they used but I was not a fan of it. I kind of feel like it could use a bit of sauce on the side because it was kind of dry. Steamed Nova Scotia lobster with coleslaw and potato salad: There was an option for seasonal pricing at 1 lb 1.5 lb or 2 lb Lobster. I chose the 1 lb Lobster (at the time it was $51) but what actually came felt like it was 1.5 lb. A lobster with steam to perfection the meat was not frozen tasting and it was tender and juicy. Even the claw meat was delicious and had had a lot of goodies in it. The mashed potato and coleslaw was okay. Half and half dessert - Cadix and New York cheesecake with chocolate sauce: The cheesecake was okay, but what actually surprised us was the Cadix. It tasted almost like Nutella and Ferrero Rocher all together. The base was crunchy and crumbly, the mousse was not overly sweet; it was delicious Overall I would definitely refer someone to come and joy some great local seafood and wine at this location.
Many people suggested you HAVE to go to Salty's during your stay in Halifax and to get there early as there is always a wait to be seated. True, it is a busy place and with the current COVID conditions when there, seating was reduced and a minimal wait list was made for those in line. I'm not sure what the hype is all about. The lobster (and lobster roll) was definately fresh, the fish and chips were average. Overall, the food wasn't over the top delicious, the fish batter was thin and uninspiring. The chicken pasta was the most savoury item we ordered and took first place when ranking our meals. Service was East Coast friendly and quick.
Salty's wasn't too terrible but it didn't stand out to us like I hoped it would. We came without any reservations and waited just a short while. When we got seated, the service was pretty good. For food, we got the bacon wrapped scallops which were not worth the $15 price point in my opinion. The scallops were decent but it was honestly nothing special and there was only 5 pieces which was kind of disappointing at that price. We also both got the lobster roll which was okay as well. The salad that comes on the side was nothing special at all, like something I can make from home. We both didn't end up finishing it. As for the lobster roll, the butter-y-ness of the croissant can sometimes overwhelm the taste of the lobster which takes away from the attention of the actual lobster taste itself but asides from that, was pretty tasty. Cute patio.
A casual place in the harbour with an incredible view of Dormuth, excellent option for lunch, dinner or just snacks and a few drinks. Ideal for tourists.
Two lobsters at a pound and a half. Tasty, but not sweet enough - that's why I gave Salty's 4 stars. The butter was tempered with oil too (nothing special). The corn bread was nice. The restaurant itself was open concept, clean, and with a view by the water. Service was friendly.
Great food. Great service. We ate downstairs in the bar area, apparently the menu is a bit different upstairs.
Meal type
This is one of the best restaurant we have been to here in Halifax. I just wish we would have found this place sooner. 5 stars don’t give it enough credit. This will be our go to lobster place. PS. Try the corn bread it is so good.
A perfect place for a dinner.
Quiet place to spend an afternoon if you want to spend a lot of money for not amazing food or portions. Also the roof was leaking next to me and they didn't seem bothered by it
Dine in
Friendly, professional staff serving great food! We kept coming I g back Great location on the water.
Great service and awesome food.
Salty's is a good place to go if you're just looking to grab a drink on the water, but the food is mediocre at best. Calamari was drenched in oil and rubbery. Brie was baked in puff pastry that wasn't crispy and came with baguette slices that were not toasted. Bouillabaisse was pretty much just tomato broth with seafood, not made traditionally.
After a horrible experience with a neighboring restaurant, we decided to head to Salty's instead - their menu was posted outside so made the decision much easier! We walked in and greeted by the lovliest hostess! Super friendly and were put on a waiting list - ended up waiting for our table for about 10 minutes and then were seated right on the water outside! We started with the seafood chowder (which is delicious! - a totally different flavour than I am use to but amazing none the less) and then had the Fish Tacos. So fresh, light and the flavour was perfect! Our waitress was great - I didn't get her name, but she was so friendly, prompt and efficient! Very good service. Cannot recommend Salty's enough! I am local but had never eaten here - very happy with our decision to do so!
First time here in 2019, service was not quite good. Seafood stew was a regret. Second time 2021, service was ok. 5-course menu was a good choice.
Loved the restaurant and service but their prices to portion size left me wondering if I made the right choice.
Delicious food, great portions at a good price. Polite staff and quick service!
So good! Delicious seafood, waterfront seats, really good service. Our server showed up just enough and not too much.
Good food, nice atmosphere
Lunch
Like all other waterfront restaurants, it’s a little on the pricey side considering the portions, but the lobster roll here was very good! It was on a croissant that was incredibly delicious on its own, and had a solid lobster salad recipe. The salad was your basic salad, good enough. I also had a strawberry margarita and it was great!
Portions isn't a lot, but taste is up there...
We went on a Tuesday afternoon (yesterday). The crowd wore mostly business casual attire. We loved the Salty's Seafood Chowder and sweet potato fries. The chocolate mousse dessert (I don't recall the name) and coffee was lovely. The view of the harbour was amazing. The pricepoint was a bit high ($13.99 for the chowder) but location and food quality make up for it.
Good food, good service. Will definitely go again!
The view alone is worth the visit. The freshest seafood I've ever had, and the customer.aervixw is on point for being short staffed. They did amazing.. I can't wait to come back to Halifax!.
Amazing staff great food. Love the location⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Great seafood, great ambient. Lovely spot Fast and friendly service, staff was very helpful. Food was amazing, incredible taste. At a prime location, the view is lovely. Will be back for sure whenever visiting the area again.
Good food, excellent service. Was a bit chilly inside with the doors open but very good over all.
Food is very good, service was excellent and prices are reasonable for being right on the Halifax waterfront!
Top notch restaurant for seafood in Halifax!
Nice restaurant with a great view/location. Food was tasty and service was great!
Great location! Great atmosphere! Great vibe! Great food! Great staff!
Good view, the food was not bad. The service was not great tho. Still recommend the food.
Amazing lobster roll, I love it.
Great fish and chips.love the view of the harbour.
Mussels were tasty but the view from the top floor was astounding. A great place to watch the day go by.
My husband and I went to this place on our trip to Halifax. A few people had suggested us to go here and oh my were they right. This is the beat place to eat fish. Loved their fish so much that came here again for dinner. My husband had ordered a veggie burger and he loved it. We had also ordered their creme brûlée and it was out of this world. It was a lemon creme brûlée and I devoured it. My husband didn’t like it because he isn’t a big fan of lemon. Their location is amazing and their service is great. This is a must visit for everyone.
excellent service; great food.
Fantastic seafood meal. Great scenery and amazing staff!
A beautiful evening in Downtown Halifax. Nancy was our server, and our experience wouldn't have been the same without her. Her menu knowledge, her sense of humor, and professionalism made the evening special. She was a delight to deal with! The food was lovely, and cooked to perfection. We'll absolutely be back.
Wonderful seafood with a view- best chowder I've had, with fresh and thick pieces of seafood. I enjoyed watching the boats go by as I ate.
Salty's was delicious. I find their menu options cater to everyone and you can choose between upstairs and downstairs for fine dining or fast casual!!!
Ok so had Scallops which were good BUT the fries looked like they came from McD’s ( this isn’t a joke ). The mussels were good. The waitress was very nice. I think it’s all about location.
Wanted to try authentic nova scotia lobster while in town, did not disappoint!
Always a favorite place to eat on the Halifax waterfront!
Good service. Great view of the harbour. Food was delicious. We had the crab cakes and a lobster roll. Both were tasty and served promptly.
Decent food, nothing decadent like other fine dining. Service is efficient and staff are friendly. Ordered the seafood chowder, decent and hits the spot.
Good vibes, good fish n chips.
Pricey but worth the experience. Had lunch at Salty's during Tall Ship weekend. Great location next to the water despite the cooler weather. Photos came out a bit fuzzy but food and service were good. Cold lobster, the only way to eat lobster.
We had such a beautiful dinner here. Everything was amazing and our server was top notch.
The best food I've had on this cruise yet. I ordered the fried shrimp with spicy mayo and the Chicken Wrap, also with that spicy mayo. Very, very good lunch and my waitress was awesome. I asked a local where to eat and they mentioned this place. It didn't disappoint. I wish I lived here so I could try the rest of the menu. A++
I’ve had several opportunities to eat at this well established Halifax seafood restaurant and enjoyed each time with my current visit no exception. Location, service and delicious meals... what more do you need other than great friends or colleagues to share your meal with. Salty’s offers two dining options. On the lower level, there is more casual pub style dining with finer dining on the upper level. For my recent visit, we ate upstairs. All tables have a great view of the Halifax Harbour. It was dark when we were there, so it was more difficult to see outside but would be fantastic with light outside. Our server was great. Attentive and a good balance of service and allowing us to enjoy our meal. Meals were served on time and well prepared. We all had a tough time choosing from a menu with great variety and seafood offerings. My lessons learned were to never choose something other than seafood when in a seafood restaurant and when your server tells you they have fresh halibut and the chef has prepared a special meal, go with that! I chose the Angus striploin which was good but eyeing the specials that my colleagues chose, I was instantly filled with regret. I passed on desert, this time, but will definitely be back.
Fantastic harbourfront restaurant for fish and non-sea food. Our server was super helpful and gave us some great tips for Halifax as well. We ordered the panko fried hadok, vegan burger and creme brulee. The flavours were finger looking good. The creme brulee was lemon flavoured - something new. Highly recommend anyone who visits and lives here to go and try Salty’s.
Authentic, waterfront seafood restaurant... Lobster was awesome... But be prepared to $$$... Great staff and ocean view
Polite and young staff. Food is expensive. Fish and chips fish is bit dry. Lobster is fine. Scallops taste good, not too.greasy.
Took our out of town guests to Salty’s for dinner. Started off by the beers we wanted they didn’t have any. So we ordered appetizers … the calamari was ok. Chicken wings were good. We all ordered our mains. Fish and chips were greasy and the fries were barely cooked and soggy. Fish tacos were passable. My husband said his seafood casserole was ok. Now for the waiter. Not friendly at all!!! Didn’t come back to ask how our meals were. My husband asked for a second beer it took about 15 minutes to finally get it. I asked for an extra napkin. Ended up just wiping my hands on my clothes. No tip should have been given but my husband was too nice. Two thumbs down!!! So disappointed!!!
Good service. Found the halibut cooked well but underseasoned and otherwise bland for one of the most expensive items on the menu.
Beautiful view of the harbour, good service, great menu. Best haddock I’ve ever had.
Only corn bread was good. Mussel and pasta didn’t have right taste. Would still give 4 stars if services was good. Waited for 15 minutes for water refill but had to ask again for the water.
Had drinks and appetizers all of which was great All the staff were very welcoming and all wished us good bye on our way out. Our server was a very pleasant and knowledge person.
I've eaten up and downstairs here a few times over the years, but this specific review is only for the upstairs, during Dine Around 2021. (can't remember any details further back!). When picking places to try this year for Dine Around, Salty's won out based on the fact that it is five courses for $50 pp. Good value for the money, but more importantly to me, just a better overall experience when you get more small portions to try, stretching the dinner out a bit longer even. My friend and I wanted to try different things, so we could taste each other's food, and we did that except with course #1, since neither of us actually love oysters, we both got the pear & goat cheese crostini. Delicious as it sounds. Two pieces each. Course #2 I got the NS scallop with roasted tomato sauce, which was my favorite of the meal. Two good sized scallops, seared to perfection that didn't even need a sauce, but of course that added to the flavor. My friend's crab cake with green tomato chow was quite good as well. Course #3 my roasted beet salad with arugula had the perfect crunch of the pecans, creaminess of the cheese, slices of golden beet. Course #4 my mushroom ravioli was a good size where I was able to finish it and not be too full, but definitely satisfied, done well. His Lamb shank with mashed potato & turnip was a good size as well, very juicy, flavorful and veg cooked crisp tender. Desserts: my maple creme brulee was exactly as it's supposed to be, not too deep a dish, but all you need to finish off the dinner. His Belgian chocolate mousse over hazelnut praline was delicious and a larger slice than expected. We each had wine & beer pairings. The only odd thing about the evening was that the staff said we were not allowed to sit at this specific table by the window because it wouldn't comply with covid 6 ft spacing, so we took a two seater away from the window. But maybe 10 minutes later, another staff member allowed another couple to sit at that window seat after all. It didn't make any impact on our night, other than we would've preferred that window view. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Overall, I look forward to coming back here any time.
Seaside view. Delicious food. good service
The few and people were nice. It was over priced for what we got. The kids meal was bigger then the mains.
Beautiful waterfront patio with some of the freshest seafood you can find in Halifax. Good service and vibrant atmosphere.
Our first taste of fresh Atlantic Lobster fishing disappoint!!!
Meal type
First time having lobster and I cannot complain. Such a great patio, service and amazing lobster!
The atmosphere was charming. The service was fast and courteous. The Lobster chowder and muscles were out of this world! The chowder was filled with large chunks of lobster and delicious!! Highly recommend you check it out.
Went in to try their lobster and seafood chowders and they did not disappoint. My favorite was the lobster chowder as there were big chunks of lobster and it was deliciously creamy. Their home biscuits were a nice pairing for the chowder as well.
The service was great, the food was very good.
Fantastic lobster and haddock! Service was great as well!
Food, service and awesome food, price is reasonable. ????????.. we had seafood chowder followed by seafood platter.
The crab cakes and the lemon creme brûlée were so incredible. I loved the location and our server was great!
Salty’s was underwhelming and over priced for the quality. But at least there’s a nice view on the patio.
Wee stopped in there for a nice refreshment and sat on the patio by the water, it was a lovely spot and the staff were very nice and friendly, definitely recommend this place if you're walking the boardwalk!
Beautiful patio to watch sunsets and enjoy delicious food. Terrible experience with the server though. The woman who was serving us was extremely rude and kept slamming dishes and cups on the table. She didn’t even bother to clean the edges, just slammed the cup and went her way. You can tell by the body language and she was being so racist. Her answer to being politely asked why she is acting this way was that she can’t serve everybody when she is serving 10 tables. Will never go back after such a inhuman behaviour. The manager was understanding though. You can always leave in a word with her. But I would rather suggest going to a place where you are treated with respect and people do the job they are paid for rather than acting cruel and outrageously mean.
Amazing meal and such friendly service. We had a subdue view on the upper floor which was amazing at sunset. Well be back.
Was looking for uncovered, waterfront dining with fresh seafood and salad. This was the spot!
The food and service was great. Chloe was very friendly and helpful. Thank you!
We eat here everytime we are Halifax! Great food and an even better view of the harbour. Cant go wrong here! Would definitely recommend
We stopped in here for dinner last year as we were traveling through the area. It was a very beautiful with outdoor seating overlooking the Waterfront. We couldn't have been more happy. Our server, Elle, was attentive, courteous and friendly. Doris started with a glass of White Sangria while I went with a glass of Keith's Beer to go with our Seafood Pasta and Smoked Salmon. Both were very well prepared and mouth watering. We opted out of dessert having picked up our own goodies for our hotel room. Our total bill came to $ 100 CAD ($75 USD). We look forward to our return when in the area. Simply beautiful here.
Dine in
Food tastes really good. Seafood seems fresh. Servers are very friendly and accommodating. Price is fair to what you receive.
It's my first dinner in the city of Halifax and it didn't make me disappointed. Seafood platter and calamari are wonderful and service is great.
The only thing this place has going for it is the view and at this point that’s not enough to save it. Service was incredibly slow, drinks were mediocre, food was bland tasteless and uninspired. We ordered the panko/Parmesan haddock aka a fried frozen fish stick we replaced that with the lobster linguine which was even worse. Pasta was over cooked and lacked salt. Butter poached halibut was also tasteless. The “butter” that was served with the lobster wasn’t actually butter but rather oil or margarine. The coleslaw and potatoe salad that came with it was 1000% Costco’s and not made in house. It was terrible. And then to boot all the meals came with the same side of tasteless steamed Brocoli. The dipping sauce for the calamari came in a plastic cup for a official dinning room I expect at least real dish wear. We sat upstairs and our bill was over $300 and the food was AWFUL. Second time coming here and Will definitely be the last. If you want overpriced, unseasoned, uninspired, tasteless calories then come here. Such a disappointment. For a name like saltys seems that the one ingredient they lack.
Service impeccable, fish and Chips excellent !
Came here on my last day in Halifax.. can't believe i didn't know about it sooner.. amazing view of the waterfront, fantastic service and very friendly ad cheerful staff, the best kind, and of course the fresh seafood platter i got was perfect to taste a bit of everything! Must visit in my opinion.. i also ordered the Cadix, which is their signature dessert, it was so delicious. Also, I later found out they have the lower level for casual dining and the upper level is for fancier atmosphere, but the quality of food is similar at both levels. Great idea to combine both options of dining. Please see some of the enclosed pictures.
A friend who was not a seafood fan ordered a burger and fries. Without a doubt, the worst burger and fries I've ever seen from a restaurant. Complete rubbish.
Absolutely lovely service and view. Calamari and oysters were perfection.
Salty's has an underrated patio right on the Halifax Waterfront. It's so nice to sit and watch the boats in the harbour in the summertime. In my opinion, their crab cakes are one of the best things on the menu. Their lobster roll is served on a croissant which is... unique. I ate it but it isn't something I would order again. Overall, I would probably go back in the summer but not for the food.
Stopped in without a reservation and got extremely lucky. A reservation with a table by the window had just cancelled, and we were treated to one of the best tables in the house! I definitely recommend reservations if you want to enjoy a similar view. Then we met Karen. What a lovely human being, and excellent server! We were treated with hospitality and kindness the whole way. We shared the calamari and seafood chowder for appetizers. Both were excellent. For mains, the butter poached halibut and the lobster linguine. The word amazing seems to come up a bit short in describing these dishes. For dessert, the half & half and the creme With all this in mind, I can sincerely recommend Salty's. Check it out!
When my in laws were visiting, we finally decided to try Saltys. It was a bit of wait to get seated, but that's often a good sign! When we were ordering our food, I clarified what was in their different chowders, and asked specifically for the lobster chowder instead of the seafood one. When the food arrived, I got a bowl of seafood chowder. It took us nearly 10 minutes to get our server's attention - which we ended up asking a different one anyway. I told everyone else to eat so their food wouldn't get cold while we waited for mine; however, it was nearly 40 minutes until my bowl of chowder arrived. The quality of the chowder was good, and we would likely try again but it wasn't a very good dining experience.
Amazing crab cakes
I ate upstairs. Beautiful view. Friendly service. The halibut was great. Decent cornbread, and dessert was also good. A little on the pricey side, but great for a special night out.
Pub serving food. Good service from friendly waitress. Order for good and drink was taken swiftly and delivered shortly afterwards. Good quality food at reasonable prices. Good atmospheric
Too expensive for what you get. Also the presentation of my main looked like they'd just microwaved a frozen food container and dumped it on a ceramic dish.
A staple in my Halifax trips. Always a good meal in the perfect location.
Great quality fresh seafood. I highly recommend it
Best fine dining restaurant (top floor) in Halifax. If you want an amazing experience, it’s here!
Visiting from Toronto and through a friend was told about Saltys . Made a reservation for 7.30 pm and arrived at 7.20 . Reservation was for 4 so had to wait until our friends arrived which was 7.45 . That’s when everything fell apart At approx 7.50 we put our food order in and waited an hour before our appetizers showed up . Unreal . We were told the kitchen was very busy and that was the hold up . Sad thing also , 3 appetizers came out leaving one person without there’s for another 10 mins . Then our waitress came and said to my wife that they did not have any more lobster left for the seafood platter so can we had more fish instead . What they did add was more shrimp which my wife didn’t even eat as it was cooked properly . Overhaul totally disappointed with the restaurant and the service . We stayed at the Marriott next door so on our next visit to Halifax will go somewhere else besides Saltys for dinner
Such a clean place well kept..food delicious..parking tricky but worth the ride downtown always..view is beyond therapeutic..
Service was really great. All the servers were really attentive. Food was good, however, for my palate, I would have liked a bit more spice and flavor.
Great restaurant,. I was looking for a one of the Best places to eat in Halifax and they recommended this one , I had some lobster & poster wine, food was great and service as well , pricing Hmm maybe a bit overpriced coming comparing to Vancouver but we'll spend money
Pleasant location, staff were prompt abd friendly. Food was decent and reasonably priced. Would go back.
Loved theis salmon stuffed with crab & goat cheese. Service was amazing, the view from the second floor was great. We all had an amazing time and we will definitely come back.
Wonderful place to have fine dining. Great view of the harbour.
Uninspired pub food with a great view.
So good
Great service. Nice view. The seafood casserole was tasty but the sauce too watery.
Ate upstairs, enjoyed everything. Our server not only guided us to wonderful local items on the menu but was also able to tell us a little bit about the regional wine we chose, telling us an interesting few things about how the vines were developed and grown. Delightfully wide tables, lots of room for lots of plates. Beautiful views out all sides. Would recommend.
This place was soo good! We went there for dinner and we sat outside. It's right in front of the harbor. We ordered roasted red pepper soup, veg fettuccine pasta, garlic cheese bread and corn bread. And everything was absolutely amazing. They have really quick service. I'm planning to again before I leave Halifax. :)
Very happy to share their 5th birthday with them over the weekend. Great beer, great service, loved the sour cherry vodka soda, and they treated our dogs very well while sitting on the patio.
Seafood casserol was disappointing. No much seafood, cream sauce watery , mostly mashed potatoes on top.
Beautiful location to see The waterfront. Food was delicious! Definitely going back for dessert! Local favourite food!
I was here on Saturday with my aunt and uncle that live out here as well as my mom and sister. I ordered lobster and asked if I could get mashed potatoes as a side instead of scalloped. Server said they could. They also switched my coleslaw for corn and green beans without me asking. That was amazing! The only issue I had was they forgot my butter for my lobsters. Food was delicious!!
I had the Lobster Roll...it was amazing..it was on a croissant too..which was lighter than a big bun..lots of lobster in it as well..served with a greens salad ..the restaurant is near the end of the boardwalk towards the casino so on the water ..nice view...and staff was so nice..always had someone making sure we were ok asking if we needed anything else.. loved everything about this place❤️❤️❤️
We had oysters, a bouillabaisse, and a whole 1 pound lobster. All tasted fresh and delicious. The lobster was perfectly cooked. The ingredients of the bouillabaisse were light and tasty. The view is also a real treat. The only downside perhaps compared to downtown restaurants is that the cuisine could be more inventive, but that’s not what this restaurant is about: it’s about eating fresh seafood with a view over Halifax’s harbour.
Great food, great staff, just had an amazing anniversary dinner, thank you Salty's! ????
Service
Excellent seafood. Seating outside with a nice view.
I forgot to take my photo this time out, but had the most succulent Lobster! It was on special, and steamed to perfection. My friends had the seafood casserole and salmon and were very pleased. Service was great and we'll be back again.
Came here with my group of friends on our roadtrip and everything we had was amazing! Definitely recommend!
Great place in Halifax Harbour to enjoy excellent seafood. The service was outstanding and the food was 5 star ????.
The clam chowder was perfect and the yummy Salty's Blueberry Grunt melts in your mouth.
Food was incredible. Atmosphere was fantastic, and the view out on the harbor was breath taking, especially at night with all the lights lit up. Would highly recommend and will go again ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Amazing fish and chips. Fries taste identical to McDonald’s (a good thing lol). A must in Halifax!
Went for lunch, gotta say I had a really great experience with the staff and food! Extremely polite and good service, I had fish and chips and the lobster and the food tasted fresh as I never tasted before. Definetly a must try in the area!
Delicious meal, charming and attentive staff.
Very pleased restaurant. Excellent Food
Delicious as always! Calamari and Lobster croissant were fabulous, thank you!
Expensive, but you get what you pay for! Absolutely delicious!!
Lobster roll on a croissant was delicious
This is a great place to eat along the waterfront in downtown Halifax. If you can, eat on the wharf with views of Halifax Harbour. This is a seafood place that we have eaten at several times. Therefore, don't make the same mistake I did and order steak as that is not their specialty.
A definite must every trip to Halifax. As always great patio and great food. Lobster rolls done right.
Amazing! Some of the best salmon I have ever had. Upstairs is pricey but makes for a perfect date night. Server was very friendly and helpful with recommendations as well.
Just Ok food. Overpriced restaurant with a pub quality food.
Had fish tacos, great! They have patios right on the water as well. Would recommend!
They played Taylor Swift tonight ????
Saltys is one of my favorite stops for seafood. Never disappointed. The food was great, the staff were knowledgeable and very friendly. My boyfriend and I ate downstairs in the more casual dining area, next time I'll check out the upstairs. Although this place can get pricey especially when you order cocktails (which are very refreshing and will have you wanting more&more) In the summer it's the perfect spot to be, where the location is right on the waterfront you have a beautiful view and they have outdoor dining. In the winter it's a bit drafty but so worth it. I go a few times a year and I'll certainly be back for the busker festival which is also right on the waterfront! All around this place is where to go when wanting that maritimer seafood! Yum!! (Cozy, friendly, family friendly, beyond acceptional service and the food is amazing)
Amazing service, prime location, Great food, and Good prices...
My first time in Halifax from NYC and wow. This place came recommended by the locals. The waiter was super awesome in his recombination of the catch of the day special. Just look at the pics, nothing was left at the end of the meal..
My partner and I had an exceptional experience at this fantastic dining establishment. Service was amazing! Food and drinks came out so quick and were very tasty. Our server Katie was so personable she felt like a long time friend. Would recommend to all my friends and I can not wait to visit again! PS. Lobsters so fresh they bite!
I like it...????
The food was delicious! Service was excellent!
