My first meal in Halifax. A lobster roll, fries and Mussels served with an ocean view. Its a perfect tourist location, with tourist pricing. Nice decor and very friendly staff.
Some pros: amazing location, great service (shoutout to Charles), nice patio. Cons: because of the location they definitely put low effort into the food. In our group we got two lobster rolls which were TINY and not super flavourful, and an order of fish and chips- the chips were bland and not very good. When we arrived we were told there was a wait for a table, but when we were seated after 20 minutes, we were surrounded by empty tables.
Great view from the covered patio on the Halifax harbour so the atmosphere is hard to beat in that area. Excellent food and drinks, but the bar can be a little slow. Service was excellent: fast, and not overly intrusive.
Had a good lunch here - very fresh food, great staff and fast service. Plus they have dinner cruises that are amazing!
Nice place to eat right on the water. Not overly acoustically sound, got hard to hold conversation when too many seated around you. Food was good & decently priced; however, there was a bit of a wait from time ordered to tabled. Staff were very friendly.
Very disappointed. Ordered a seafood chowder for $14 to take out and tasted like milk mixed with water, way overpriced. Soup was put in a tiny foam container with no lid, wrapping with a plastic wrap loosely. I asked the waitress how this will work when i bring it onto the bus. She sad there was nothing she can do. Soup has very small portion with little bits of salmon and was tasteless. Did not come with bread neither. Lobster was way over cooked and overpriced for such low quality. I rated one star only for their location, right by the wharf.
The location can't be better. Amazing view. The food was really good, specially the baked lobster dip. We order and share five different dishes. We didn't like the fish and chips, but I give them 5 stars because the rest was really good. The service was also good, the waitress (as everyone in Halifax) was very nice and polite.
Went on the Ferry to George's Island. AMAZING. The booking process is so easy. We ordered the Italian Sandwiches for lunch, and they were absolutely delicious. I'd book again just for the sandwich and chips. The staff were so friendly and approachable. Would absolutely recommend !
It was fairly good but disappointing to hear that only one Harbour Hopper has one accessible space and that that one was having problems and so I had to take my son out of his walker and walk him up the stairs and since they were a bit …
One star might be kind. Possibly the worst restaurant I have ever been to. Server dropped water on us, didn't clean it up. Then they dropped mussel juice on us. We ordered the lobster rolls. They looked more like pink tuna fish. More mayo than anything else. The menu said 'a hint' of mayo. Not cheap either. Would never go back, nor recommend. Beer selection was terrible as well.
Unfortunately, some of the worst food I've had in Halifax. The turnips that came with the pan fried haddock had a distinct metallic flavor (from a can maybe?), and the chicken supreme was a small chicken leg with bone, wrapped in bacon and overcooked. We changed the chicken supreme side for fries, and for $21.99 got an enormous plate of "hand cut" fries and a small chicken leg (see photo). The quality of food doesn't even match half of what they charged. I've had better hospital food.
Great spot to have lunch on the water. Fish and chips with chowder poutine. Very friendly waitress and great views.
The food was excellent and the service was great! I highly recommend Murphy's. The view was amazing.
Went here a few years ago and had a lobster roll. It was served on a not-as-fresh-as-it-could-be hot dog bun. The McDonalds lobster roll that I had the day before was better, I thought. But, the beer was great and it did have the atmosphere, being right on the water.
My experience at this restaurant was very good! The food was enjoyable and I was seated right by the ocean. As well, the food had very good proportions. However the drinks were slightly costly, and someone whom I was dining with got a long hair in her soup. However when we mentioned it they immediately gave us a new soup and took 20% off the cost. Very nice place, and I would recommend.
Everytime I come to Halifax I make Murphy's on the water my first and last stop. As somebody who loves seafood they have everything that you would need. The food is great. Servers are friendly and the view from the patio is probably the best you will find in Halifax
****update - uncharacteristically I called as the owner requested below. Discussed is great detail with Mike who was extremely accommodating and sincere to correct the service we received. Mistakes happen and they have gone above and beyond to correct it. I'm impressed .***** The servers were absolutely awesome. Very friendly and professional which is why I gave the additional star. However, we had 2 children with us, we ordered mussels, two adult and 2 children meals. We were there for nearly 2 hours, NO Joke!. We asked several times when our meal was going to come. They kept saying soon and that they waiting until the Apps where done. We only ordered mussels, aside from the main meals. The manager came and offered me 15 percent off my app. So, my nearly 2 hours of wait time equaled 3 dollars. Thanks. I was so looking forward to showing my family Murphys, as I grew up in the area. Very disappointed and most likely never going to return.
Conveniently located down by the water, we took a stroll before and after dinner along the docks. We didn't have to wait long for a table, maybe 5-10 min. We wanted to soak up the view so we asked for a table on the closed-in patio. The tables are pretty crowded and there were pigeons walking around, but we didn't mind. Waitstaff were pleasent. The $18 lobster Caesar was underwhelming. The menu was limited and the meals seemed overpriced for such small portions.
Worst experience in Halifax!!! A lot of items in the menu were not available ( at least 5!). The food was not good and not fresh. I truly don’t recommend this place!!! Worst restaurant in town. The salad was soggy, the Mac and cheese was extremely small and horrible. It was just liquid orange liquid. I’d rather eat Kraft Mac and cheese.
The service here was horrible. 40 minutes from the time we order to even get a drink order. Then our appetizers came out about 5 min before our main course and the restaurant was half empty. While the food was good it wasn't worth the 2 hour and 30 minutes we were in this restaurant. I also had to stand at the order station and wait for our waitress to come back after waiting for our bill for 20 minutes.
First time here. We came in close-ish to closing time and were seated outside. I think they forgot about us, because we sat for about 20 minutes before we got any service. However, once we did get service, it was great. Our server gal was nice and friendly and offered us free drinks and ended up giving us an extra 15% off on our bill for our troubles. Not really mad about it because, hey, it happens. I appreciate what they did to make up for it. My only real complaint is regarding the portions; while the food we had was really, really good, I did find it a little too pricey for the amount of food we got. I don't know if I'd come here too often because of the cost, but it's definitely worth a visit if you can afford it!
Great waterfront view. The French fries were served undercooked and the fish was in batter thick enough to be a pancake. Maybe season startup pains as its ordinarily much better
Decent Lobster roll. Friendly service and didn't have to wait for a table despite the large number of people.
This place was fantastic! We had Caitlin (spelling?) Serving us. She was so awesome! Our group was large, and we had a pretty huge appetite, so we were expecting it to be slow, but it wasn't. Caitlin was always checking up on us, cracking jokes, and just being a great host. Cannot recommend this place enough. -Mon petit poisson
Few menu options. Simple and tasty. I tried the lobster and really enjoyed it!! The service was GREAT our server was very patient and friendly.
Loved it..service, food and experience was amazing
Good food, good drinks, nice view of waterfront! Great place to have ceremony.
Mediocre. Food was horrible. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese. It was a tiny portion and extremely salty. Even the kids meals were lacking quality. Our kids even complained about the gummy worms (which were super hard) in pudding. Service was pleasant, but slow. One of the worst restaurant experiences I've had.
Ordered the salmon with wild rice and vegetables, but asked for fries instead of rice. Waitress said fine. Plate came with a piece of salmon and a mound of fries. I asked where the vegetables were. Waitress said she'll be right back. She came back and said she can bring vegetables but will have to charge me extra. What? No. Not paying extra for what comes with the meal. With this place, you're paying for the view. My suggestion: buy your lunch elsewhere then have a seat anywhere along the wharf. You'll get the same view, equally good or better food, and you'll be paying a LOT less. Girlfriend wants to kick a dent in the side of the restaurant every time we walk by it. She says staff are probably pirates swindling tourists.
Had a great sail over to George's Island. Staff was helpful, and organized. I would highly recommend.
Disappointing is an understatement. It was our 33rd anniversary so we decided to do this cruise and brought another couple visiting from Alberta along. There was no live music (actually zero music) and the advertised description of various landmarks could not be heard (poor sound system). We arrived at 5:30 to ensure we’d get a seat near a window. We were one of the first to board which in itself was very confusing. The Captain was yelling from above at the obviously new employee ticking of guests’ names as they boarded, telling her to move them along. Immediately, I felt sorry for her and thought “not very classy”. Once on-board, I asked a server if we could have a table by a window and was declined. I told her it was our 33rd anniversary and she said sorry, seats are preassigned. My husband then asked another server if we could have a window table and again was refused. It was quite confusing to see an empty table by a window across from us for the entire trip yet we were refused. I’m not sure why when paying for the tickets we were asked if it was a special occasion as it clearly was only a “special” occasion to us. It was a beautiful July evening and after waiting outside in the sun, we were thirsty. We watched as every table was offered tea, followed by coffee and EVERY table declined. All we wanted was water, but no water was to be had for about half an hour. Yes, the scenery was beautiful, but we were the last table to receive our chicken and salmon and it was cold. There was a party of about 40 people in the same section whom we wished we were a part of as they were served quickly and highly favoured. The night ended on a high note when we decided to go to Cow’s for ice cream and planned a do over to celebrate our anniversary on another night at a place that honours what it promises. Save your money. Seats are incredibly uncomfortable for a two hour tour and it felt a bit cafeteria style - no table clothes, tacky paper napkins and cheap cutlery. It would take such little effort to flip this tour into a classy event. I’m baffled.
Great location, good food. Patio is perfect on a nice day.
Food was good. Service great. Dissapointed with the absence of lobster (especially the lobster dip)
Lobster was sumptuous...fish and chips was delicious...ambiance was enticing...
Just your average seafood joint. It's got a tremendous view, but so do all the other restaurants on the waterfront. The service was quite slow and the food was simply average. There are better options in the area.
Terrible all around. The washrooms were not clean, the tables and chairs were not clean, the coffee was served cold, and they ran out of fish and chips. There seemed to be a lot of confusion between the staff. Very disappointing given the downtown location.
Very good food. I liked the bacon jam on the burger.
We had a stellar time! Very accommodating and friendly, we will be booking again!
Lobster was decent, sister order fish and chips and the batter was flavorless. Big portion but very very bland. Mussels were very good. Waitress was nice but forgot my wine twice. I wouldn't go back. I'll try a different seafood restaurant instead.
Underwhelming to say the least. The fish and chips were not that great- fish was dry and overcooked and the fries definitely came straight from the freezer. The bacon-wrapped scallops were quite tasty, however. Service was decent and our server was friendly, however due to the lackluster and overpriced food I'll not go back. They bank on their location and the uninformed tourists, therefore they are able to charge exorbitant prices on low-quality food. Wish I read the reviews before going.
Terrible service. Very disorganized. When they realized they "forgot" my lobster they discussed it between the servers in front of me for about 5 minutes. Then 20 MINUTES LATER asked me if I still wanted it as would take 15 minutes to cook! Really!!! Oh but.could get it to go...(Then after drinking Pepsi all night they bring me a complimentary pitcher of....beer!) Wow. Same thing happened to another member of our party because sitting there with a Lobster bib on with no food in front of you while the servers walk by isn't enough of a clue. Wife's chicken was tough and cold as well. No manager came to check or apologize. Servers confused and disorganized. Disaster all around.
Fish and chips was excellent along with the desserts. The views from the terrace are incredible.
Held a large private event, food was great and overall the staff where friendly and helpful. The view is great and definitely a local feel.
Very friendly service. We had an awesome view of the harbor and the food was fresh and delicious. Would definitely visit again!
They were very accommodating to our large group for lunch. Food looked great. I had fish and chips and it great.
Great views, nice patio, and food is great as well!
Decent food, nice staff, prime location, proper atmosphere Pricing is standard for the strip
The menu had a few items I enjoyed removed, and 12$ for a basic hamburger is a bit much. It wasn't bad. But not quite worth that price
Good food, location, service. Price reasonable for being located on the water.
Semi outdoor seating with great food and friendly staff. Local seafood is fresh and tasty. Has a gift shop with local goods. In the heart of the waterfront.
Upon walking onto the dinner cruise the new shift lead was yelled at by the captain in the same tone as a sea lion fighting for its mate. We awkwardly shimmied inside to find our seats which was like being a hamster in a maze. After asking to be seated by the window, we were refused even though a window seat was left open for the remainder of the cruise. On this particularly warm July day, our first drink offered was tea by a women whose voice would've worked great as any actor in a haunted house. After being offered multiple hot drinks we did receive water. We were served last and at this point our chicken and salmon was colder than this review. If you are going to do any tours, do the harbor hopper three times before getting on this shipwreck.
Terrific food but the service was a bit slow. Excellent view!
Great food, right on the waterfront! Lovely atmosphere.
Terribly disappointed with customer service. We had bought Whale Watching tickets about 2 months in advance of our trip to Halifax. The day of, it was raining. However, our ticket said that boat tours still run in most weather conditions. We showed up at the store 15 minutes before our ride, and were told which boat to meet at. We went out to the boat, and there was no one there, so we went to the Harbour Hopper kiosk. They informed us that our boat ride was cancelled because of the weather. I can't believe that no one called or emailed to let us know in advance! We decided to switch to the Harbour Hopped boat as it was still running, and were refunded the difference. After making us wait around in the rain for nothing, I really would have expected them to refund us the full amount and let us take the Harbour Hopper as a free backup as an apology for failing to communicate the cancellation.
Came here from out of town - surprised that the prices seemed very reasonable for being right on the water! Place wasn’t very busy, the server was really friendly, food was delicious (lobster Mac and cheese and lobster poutine) - couldn’t have asked for anything more! Thanks for a great lunch!
Food here is very good! The location splendid with some very nice views of the water. However, I felt that some of the dishes were simply too small for the pricing. For example, the lobster roll is extremely tiny for the price of 20-ish dollars. Overall a good experience.
I've been to Murphy's a handful of times, and everytime I go I'm reminded of why I keep coming back. The staff are friendly and well-informed, and they're more than willing to share a joke or offer advice for local entertainment. Your food comes out quickly without sacrificing quality, and I've never once had to send anything back. The prices are great too, and it's one of those places where you could spend hours there without realizing it. Their patio offers a gorgeous view of the water and the dining room is just as nice, the friendly atmosphere making you feel right at home. I've been back several times, and I'll continue to keep going back. It's a great place to both grab a drink or have a nice family meal.
The lobster was soooooo good!
We went on the whale watching tour, the trip to Peggy's Cove and ate at the restaurant. Everything was great: the staff were knowledgeable and very friendly. The whale watching tour may not be was you expect, it is not guaranteed you will see anything because they are not trying to disturb the whales natural behavior. However the interpreters offer some good facts and history of the views. The trip to Peggy's Cove was excellent, if alittle to short. We would have liked to spend more than an hour there, but the trip and bus driver were great. The Murphy's restaurant was also good. Service was quick and the burgers was delicious.
I had a great lobder roll and a Canadian beer here right on the dock. It was a little tourist-y but I enjoyed it.
Great fish and chips. Sat out on the patio for dinner on a nice hot day. Richards on tap was great
Cute little restaurant. Loved the patio. The food was reasonably priced. Portions were good. Would revisit
The only good thing I have to say about my lunch at the cable wharf was the taste was pretty good. Service was slow and the restaurant was far from busy, server forgot our drinks, double checked an order for us and then we got the wrong food. Tried to argue that we had ordered what came out and our main course came out before the appetizers did.
My mom and I went to this restaurant last night with a family friend. It took us a half hour to get seated which was a wait but we stuck it through. once seated, we order the burgers and buffalo wrap. Which was another 40 mins wait. The only thing was, we asked for a salad and got fries and we order nachos and never got them. The food was delicious.. fries were the best I'd had in awhile. But the service wasn't the best. Friendly but slow and mixed up the orders. I would go again. The food that we got was amazing but hopefully the service improves:)
The fun began with the phone call. The agent who took our reservation was informative and happy. One could tell that the evening was going to be a fun experience. We were given all the proper details of what procedures were to be followed and any instructions that may help. They were informative and nothing left unknown. The reservation was followed up by an email with details. Learned of the food allergy, & heeded to dietary needs. The evening began with a warm welcome and a fantastic introduction. There was live entertainment. Some great old tunes that everyone joined in on song. The food. Amazzzzing. The wine pairing was spot on. They were very attentive to everyone on board. Always mingling, with mask on, and sharing with everyone. There was great laughter, singing, delicious food, perfect set up (with social distancing) and the evening settled with an amazing sunset. This is a Nova Scotia experience I recommend for all. I’ll be back again for sure. Thank you for a fantastic memorable evening. It was accomplished to perfection.
As always this place is the place to come if you want great service, friendly people and the best seafood on the planet. If you are visiting Halifax from far away or are looking for a great meal close to home you will never be disappointed if you come here!
Everything the waitress said I would get i didnt get. I had to ask for Tabasco sauce 3 times since they seemed to forget. I'm still hungry, the food I did get was decent. Service and amount of food was brutal, I will go eat somewhere else so I'm not hungry still. The lemonade tasted like water, there is many better options close by.
Wow, what a fabulous evening perfect weather, music, delicious 4 course meal, one of my favourites halibut, with fantastic positive conversation and laughter. Thanks a lot Murphy's on the Water for the perfect dinner cruise on the beautiful Northwest Arm. An experience not to be missed!! ????❤️???? #FlourishwithFloria #PositivityReporter Ambassatours Gray Line #SupportLocal #EnjoySummerSafely
Went with some friends on a very rainy day in Halifax. The inside was full with a bus tour eating lobster but there were tables on the patio. Some of the tables were covered and some were not. They only sat people in the covered tables, which was ok. Three of us ordered the fish and chips and the boys shared an order of ribs. The fish was pretty good for the most part. A few little hard spots on the fish where we could tell they were in the fryer for a little to long. The fries were great, with a great dipping sauce. Visited July 2015
Not a better scenic venue on the Halifax waterfront.ake sure to sit on the porch closest to the windows to enjoy the open air breezes above. Seafood chowder was excellent, paired with a pita and hummus appetizer and a Murphy's draft. Waitress and supporting cast upbeat and attentive.
The location is great; the waterfront boardwalk goes right around the restaurant so there's lots of good people watching. The service at first was good, with a fast turnaround on drinks and then on receiving our food. However, the server was overloaded and never came back to check on us and in the end we had to seek out someone to give us our bill. The food was okay, except for the stir fry which was terrible (overcooked vegetables and everything swimming in vinegary sweet-and-sour sauce).
Loved it, the cemetery especially. I love the stories and all the history that we have learned on this tour. Thank you Kathrine for the GREAT tour.
Very friendly and helpful crew. My son and I caught a number of mackerels, boston blue and cod! Great experience, lots of fun, highly recommended.
Worth the view (if you can get a window seat). Otherwise, average restaurant with average food.
We are hear on a Shore Excursion with Oceania cruises today, Nov 6th 2019. A most unpleasant experience for sure. Preset tables had dry white rolls, the lobster came with store bought potato salad and coleslaw. As the Lobster was opened 1/2 cup of water streamed onto plate wrecking the coleslaw and potato salad. Guess they could not have drained the Lobster??? I went to Manager and shared my concerns so far and he said ' oh, can I get you more coleslaw?' Basically a shrug and did nothing. From our experience I would not return nor recommend. A very unsatisfactory and disappointing experience with no customer service.
Great experience! Thanks! If we could know the booking numbers on each trip when we booking, that would be helpful for us to select a better trip.
Not good place to go and eat. Never recommend. I had lobster dinner and just nothing to eat. One scoop of potato salad.Just a bit of cold slow. there are no side to eat. Not a roll with butter. Paid high price. $38.00+tax. Went home and had some thing to eat to pill me up. Not worth for my money, and never see me again.
If you're coming to Halifax, you definitely want to eat here for market priced lobster & fresh seafood! You can't get a better location and view of the harbour, tasty food, great service, and a real Halifax experience! Down on the …
6 dishes ordered and 3 were wrong. We had a communal appetizer, no small plates given. Had to ask. Water was tap water, had to ask for ice. Place is 1/4 full and we've been waiting for our WRONG dishes for OVER 45min. I ordered shrimp tacos, got tuna tacos instead. The kitchen did not communicate they were out of shrimp so they made the executive decision to give me tuna. How the bloody hell can a restaurant right at Halifax Harbourfront run out of shrimp? Isn't that like Texas running out of beef? Starbucks running out of coffee? This place is a joke.
The 7-day Tour East Bus trip that I'm traveling on stopped here; we have 50 tourists in our group. …
I saw this place, saw the menu, heard the hype and really wanted to try it. Sadly I was let down. Most menu options were gone and my Mussels weren't good at all :(
Ok so its not perfect - what place of business is? That said, it is RIGHT on the waterfront, sells lots of very fresh seafood, and the cooking is outstanding, in my experience. Portions tend to be a bit small for the price, so if you are a heavy eater who values large quantities of food, this might not be where you want to be, lol. THAT SAID, it's been around for quite a while, has a great atmosphere, perfect location and the food is wonderful and authentic.
Excellent restaurant, beautiful view while you are eating, delicious food yummy and is no too expensived. The service good.
What a fun way to tour Halifax. Mark was the most professional driver and gave us a smooth drive and a memorable splash. The naval show and tell was the best part!
This was a friendly but busy family dinner! It was our little guys first lobster experience, so the how to was very helpful! Would definitely recommend for a good dinner and friendly hospitality.
Very underwhelmed. Ran out of food, specifically lobster, plus other choices. The service was weak. Manager took priority over customer, and the staff only had one thing on their minds, ending their shift.
This summer Murphy ' s had to compete with the turmoil down town. It didn't affect them though as they managed to keep smiling in all of the mess. Good place to chill.
A well meaning local suggested Murphy's Restaurant as a prime candidate for fish food in Halifax. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! I ordered the Quinoa Spinach Salad followed by the Pan Fried Haddock. Since the Quinoa Spinach Salad was apparently a big plate, I opted for the smaller sized side dish. It was a good choice as It tasted terrible and I had to look hard to find any quinoa in it. To add insult to injury, I was charged $11 for my small salad instead of the $15 for the bigger plate. The Haddock plate was just as bad with two barely cooked uneatable carrots, and tasteless panned haddock (I told them to hold the rice). The only bright light on my plate: the zucchini which was actually quite tasty. But if the plate in my picture does not look like a $21 plate, it didn't look as such to me either. The only reasons people still go to this place: the amazing welcoming, cheery, and attentive service, and the amazing view. Unfortunately, I will never go back on account of the overpriced bad food. Bummer.
Seriously over rated... The service was great, but the food was not great... Had to send our appetizer back because the mussels were just in water instead of the garlic sauce. The lobster dinner was very underwhelming.
Loved the food, the atmosphere and the service. Thanks Charles for a great first lobster experience!
Friendly staff and great view on the harbour if you are on the patio. Food is typical pub grub, nothing unique.
Favourite place to chill at whilst in the Fax!
Service was great, but the fish was dry as hell, burger was over cooked as well. Not impressed with the cooks they have there now????
Hi. The fish and chips that my wife had on Tuesday were the best we ever had. I was told to try these and was not steered wrong. My compliments to the staff.
Lovely seafood. The people who work there are really friendly and helpful with what you may want to order. The fish and chips were very tasty. They also have a nice view of the water.
Not impressed with the food. Cold chicken wrap over spiced with hot sause makes it inedible. The fish and chips came with cold and hard fries. The view and service is great though.
Nice place with tasty lobsters.
Great service but prices are definitely a reflection of location and being a tourist spot. Fish and chips were ok, lobster roll was great except for the price and the stir fry was not very good. Wonderful view and staff.
Although the service was very slow, the waitress was friendly and the wait was worth it because the lobster quesadillas are to die for! The portion of lobster inside is very generous and the taste is divine! The view on the waterfront is gorgeous.
We arrived a little before noon. There appeared to be (at least one) bus tour in when we arrived. We were seated quickly, on the waterfront patio. Our waitress came to our table very soon after we sat down and took our drink order. When she returned with our drinks, we both ordered the fish and chips. Our food arrived very quickly (in about 10 minutes). The fish was lightly battered (the way we both like it) and it was very fresh, light and flaky. The fries were the crispy style and were cooked to perfection. Overall, an EXCELLENT experience and I would recommend Murphy's to anyone.
UPDATE: I see that the manager replied to this review pretty quickly. Too bad there wasn't a manager to be seen when I asked to speak to one directly while in the restaurant when my food was an hour late. Horrible customer service. Waited over an hour for our food while the rest of the people around us got their food. No updates from our waitress or any staff. Husband asked for a manager and never got to speak to one. When food was finally served, sides took 5 extra minutes to be delivered. My lobster was so tough and chewy I would have had a better time eating a piece of actual rubber and my husband's chicken wrap had 4 bones throughout it. For a restaurant that is right in the middle of a tourist destination, it failed on all points and then some. As a native of Halifax who brought my husband here to experience east coast food, I felt embarrassed. Get your act together. I do not recommend this place at all.
Great atmosphere and huge selection of seafood and local dishes. Biggest critique is tourist price, and it's a little overrated compared to the other, smaller spots around the city.
Love this place. 3:00pm lunch and practically deserted. Missed the lunch crowd @ noon! Excellent food, super friendly staff.
Great place to eat, the food and service here are awesome
My experience at Murphy's was overall quite pleasant, my wife and I ate on the patio which was quite nice but slightly loud and there were some pesky pigeons roaming the scene. The waiter we had serve us was nice and efficient which was a plus, and the food we ordered was quite good (I had the fried haddock) and the beans which came with it were to die for! However, the rice was not a great feature as it was somewhat bland and cold. Overall, my experience was quite good.
A tasteful lobster indeed ...
Very happy with out visit to Murphy's when we were in Nova Scotia, right as the lockdown was beginning in March. They have 2 levels so we took the Ocean view on the 1st floor. Very nice menu, they offer 3 sizes of Lobster if that is what …
Was highly disappointed with the menu change. Looked forward to the lobster burger, to my dismay it was removed from the menu within the last 8 weeks. Opted for the beyond meat burger. Loved it. A rarity for myself. Krystal was our awesome server. Fantastic service, and atmosphere.
Our table was not cleaned prior to our being seated. The food was good but a little over priced for what we ordered. The staff provided great service. We had a good view of the harbour and all the activity that was happening on the water.
Was hoping to see some full claws in the lobster roll, but it was delicious, and the service was great. Nice spot for a bite by the water.
Went twice in one day, just couldn't get enough. Their burgers are so Lucious and delicious, whilst their fish and chips are crisp and warm. Not to mention the beautiful view you have upon the porch section of the restaurant.
Never got to try the food because the restaurant is not kid friendly. First I was told 30 to 45 minute wait for a party of 7 adults and two children in the middle of the afternoon. Then I was told no strollers allowed. So guess it’s there loss. So I guess our US Currency and the standard 20-25% tip as we do in NYC is not welcome either.
Seated at 1:27 and explained to waitress that kids were very hungry and immediately ordered appetizers....they arrived at 2:39! Incredibly slow service...do not go if you're hungry. Nice views of harbor but pigeons crawling at your feet seems against food safety regulations. Pan-fried haddock was hot but rice and green beans cold; lobster was good but corn was awful; battered haddock was raw doughy not cooked long enough; lobster roll was to be on toasted garlic bread but arrived a a cut in half hot dog bun, when I brought this to the young lady's attention (manager of the restaurant) she just smiled and said sorry. ; mussels were good. Salad arrived 1-and-1/2 hours later ...laughable. No parking. Lots of apologizes but lost too many hours here for sub-standard food. Avoid st all costs...paid full dollar for absolutely awful food and service. Steer clear.
I always enjoy the fish and chips! It is a great place to eat while watching all of the activity in the harbour. We have always had very friendly staff as well.
Such a wonderful land and water experience on board the Harbour Hopper, our hosts Catherine and Captain Mark were ever so gracious, parts funny and overall excellent company.. they kept us engaged with their wonderful stories about the …
35 minute wait for a table... no big deal. But then when we got seated there was about 7 empty tables in the dining room and people still waiting at the door. Not sure why it was such a wait with that many empty tables. Sit down, order, then told it will be a 25 minute wait for food. You would think with it being summer, a weekend, and the buskers being in town that they would have been better prepared. The restaurant emptied out, 40 minutes passed and we finally got our food. Will not be returning. To add... it took another 20 minutes of waiting for the bill. And there were 2 tables of people other then mine.
Were told it was a 10 or 15 minute wait and waited for 45 minutes. The staff didn't seem overly concerned that many people were leaving as the wait time was very long. The kitchen couldn't keep up with the orders. We were told we were next but then other people that came in after us were seated first. Just not impressed at all. Was looking forward to eating here as we are from Calgary but I don't think I will ever go back.
When asking for information about halifax and places to visit and learn about the area, I was told to try the hopper tour. Me and family loved it and will be trying more tours that are offered.
Visited on July 31 for lunch. 12 beers on tap. Only 3 available. How does a major restaurant on the Halifax waterfront run out of beer during peak season. Food was very average. Washrooms filthy. There are better spots on the Halifax Boardwalk.
Food was good. Great friendly service. Prices reasonable and a wonderful location at Halifax harbour jutting out over water.
The wait to be seated was 30 minutes, the service was very slow. There were several issues throughout dinner: They didn't have 1lb lobster, so I had to pay for the 1.5lb, that's alright I guess. They forgot the dressing on my boyfriend's entree sized salad, and we had to request the dressing several times before it was brought to the table. Then they forgot dressing on my side salad as well. They didn't bring any crackers with my lobster. The butter seemed to be some sort of butter oil. On the upside, the coconut curry mussels were very good.
Great views from this spot at the harbour. Our young Ontarian server was very friendly and efficient. We had the nachos and the lobster roll which were delicious. Prices were quite reasonable with it being a tourist spot. Recommended.
Great views, service excellent and the food good for a get together with friends. Menu very simple
Small portions except for the fish and chips. It was very overpriced, $22 for a half cup of lobster mac n cheese and a simple garden salad. The orange ginger glazed salmon is great, but also small portion with only 2 small fingerling potatoes, 2 small carrots and a few beans, for $24. Long wait for our food as well. The food was okay, it did have issues like undercooked batter on fish and chips, veggies were a little bland, and the veggies in the chicken penne looked like someone got lazy cutting them up and left them in big pieces. Our server was great, However, I would not recommend this place for food. It isn’t worth the price and wait.
Saltines was much better. Food was prepared cheaply. They did have the best view on the harbor.
I was in a rush. I had an appointment in forty five minutes and I told the waitress. She was pleasant and guided me through the menu. I choose the Cesar salad and a decaffeinated coffee. She told me she would brew a pot of decaffeinated. My salad arrived quickly, the croutons were petrified dried out and stale rocks, the lettuce had black edges on it... My bill arrived and when I asked about the coffee she said she made it and forgot to serve it to me.... This explains why the tripadviser comments are mainly mediocre. I do not not think I will be returning again.
Negative - Less that 1/2 cup of thick white chowder with 1 mussel in a shell and very little seafoid $15.00. Ripe off! Positive - Great view!
I had a full lobster here! The atmosphere is nice; I enjoyed having my meal while literally sitting on top of the water (by the docks). The food is great and the view, well, nothing beats the ocean view from here.
Went with a group of friends on the Valley Wine Tour past Sat Oct 23rd. It was great and a lot of fun. Very well run by Ambassatours & at the vineyards. Our tour guide was very personable to everyone on the tour. Views this time of year …
We had an excellent meal on the Harbour Queen but had originally booked on the Silva. Sadly, it had mechanical issues so we were disappointed not to have that experience. All in all, it was a lovely evening on the water.
I doubt any locals ever eat here. It seemed like a place that tour operators would take their trapped clients. The food was greasy and was missing salt. My fish portion was 3/4 breading. In fact the bread was so thick that the inside was still soggy while the outside was crisp. Save you meal dollars for a better place.
Very friendly people! The hostess and our server were great! We were visiting from Arizona in the United States and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. We ate on the semi enclosed patio and it was wonderful. The food was very good and I discovered poutine, yum!
Delicious, good service!
Great Tour, wish there was an option for a longer tour. Halifax is a beautiful city!
Great place for both tourists and locals. Good selection of product and good food. Murphys also has a year round store with really unique gift and souvenir items. Highly recommend!
The staff are very friendly. The food is well worth a stop in. The fish and chips are a must. The seating is semi outdoor and provide an excellent view of the water.
Great food served on wooden style picnic tables..overlooking Halifax harbour. Good friendly staff, great service, beautiful view..will go again.
Amazing restaurant! We had the lobster meal and it was absolutely delicious. The waiting time to get seated and for the meal to arrive was appropriate and the portion was very good as well. The lobster came with rice, corn, bread and a small salad. The lobster was of a decent size also. You should definitely visit this place!
I was here for a wedding reception recently. Fairly large area, although the room is rectangular in shape. The food quality was great, and servers were very friendly. There is a separate dance area away from the tables area, so there is no need to re-purpose the room.
Food was delicious and simple. I like that the menu is small in such a big restaurant. That means that the food will always be fresh. My chicken was slightly overdone but it was better than I expected from a seafood forward venue. Beautiful view and decently priced.
The boat ride itself was good and the employee went around to everyone to see if we had questions and told us about popular sites to see. With our ticket we recieved 50% off at the gift shop as well as 20% off at the restaurant.
Came in her for a lunch because my boyfriend and I were visiting from out of town. Several people recommended this spot for lobster. We sat on the enclosed patio which was amazing because it blocked the wind but you still had a beautiful view of the water. The lobster dip was AMAZING. my boyfriend had the lobster and loved it. Our service was quick and friendly. Can't wait to visit again!
On may 14/14 my husband, our friends from Australia and myself visited your restaurant for a late lunch. We were not acknowledged on entering even though there was staff at the bar and one young woman doing paperwork at a table by the bar, preoccupied with their amusing conversation. We sat at a table in full view of the bar and eventually we were handed menus. There were very few diners present and we felt that the lack of service was poor. The three hamburger platters were passable (who can't cook a hamburger and fries) but my husband's seafood chowder was DISGUSTING, not to mention how overpriced this dish was. No roll, no crackers served until he asked the waiter who informed him that they had no rolls or crackers but brought him some tasteless bread. My husband said that he should have sent it back but he doesn't like to complain. We just will never go back or recommend it to anyone. Our friends and ourselves, travel extensively. We very seldom have complained about food in restaurants but when food is unacceptable the establishment needs to be informed.
We sat on the enclosed patio- beautiful. We ordered the Lobster roll, seafood chowder, lobster routine and bacon wrapped scallops- PERFECTION However, the service was lacking for a not so busy Thursday evening. Our entree came out ahead of our appetizer and no utensils. Waiter not so gently tossed our utensils to the center of the table. At checkout the bill again, yossed. Not much personality. And for whatever reason, the do not serve Alexander Keith????.
Heard so many great things about it. Disappointed in the food, we ordered and our food showed up in 7 min. Ordered the burger & fries and fish n chips. Food was semi warm.
We enjoyed our meal, good beer selection, and cocktail. Our server seemed too busy, but very professional. HOWEVER, why were there 3 employees (servers?) wrapping flatware instead of stationed at tables. Our 10 minute wait became closer to 25. The WORST part? Watching the hosts push water off the canopy and run on the dining tables so they could reach. Did anyone clean tables again? Nope.
I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap and essentially received a plate of generic Sysco fries with a side order wrap. My wife's fish tacos were laughably small - 2 bites and done. I don't know how they're not embarrassed to serve meals like that. Disappointing, because the view and location is great.
Lovely place to eat on the waterfront. Polite staff. However asked for a coffee. It never came. Worth a visit
Meal was delicious and service was quick. Servers were very friendly and courteous. Definitely recommend this place for dinner!
The worst service in a restaurant I’ve ever had. The waiter just keep on saying we are working on it. We had no cutlery, napkins, no side plates for our appetizers. We took the fish that’s was caught on the chartered fishing boat. They told us on the boat that they would cook the fish that is why we when there. It was just steamed, we were told it would be fish & chips. We had three young children that only ate the fries. They charged us 15.00 for every person. Will never go back and would never recommend it. There are so many great restaurants in Halifax but this not one of them.
Great food. From lobster to cheese burgers and poutines, they have it all. Ate here three nights in a row to try everything I wanted. Fantastic location as well. 10 out of 10 would recommend to a friend
Good place to eat with a very good view of the harbour. Service that we experienced was very good. We enjoyed both the fish and chips and a shrimp dish. Not our first visit and will be back again.
We were in Halifax for our honeymoon and ate at many great restaurants in the city, this however was not one of them and is most certainly one of the worst dining experiences either of us have ever had! We arrived at the restaurant around 8pm, where we saw a sizable queue of people, which made the place look promising. The lady at the entrance took our name and told us to return in 45 minutes. When we returned 45 minutes later we were met with confusion and rudeness as the lady at the entrance appeared to have not actually made a booking for us. This was made to seem like our fault as she was very rude about it and made us wait further. I wish we had left at this point. However, when we eventually reached our table although it seemed a little tacky for the prices nothing appeared too untoward. So we ordered some drinks, shortly followed by a nachos starter then a fish and chips and veggie burger main. This is where the restaurant really decided to do its best to ruin our evening! First, the nachos arrived, they were not the best or the worst we have ever had but they were fine. Then about 5 minutes later the waitress brought our mains. Having reached the table with the mains I said to her 'I am sorry but we are not quite ready for the mains yet'. To which she abruptly replied 'yes, I can see that', and took them away. We thought this was quite rude but it was about to get a whole lot worse. Another 5-10 minutes later the waitress returned again with our mains. So we again told her we have not finished the starter. In an even more unpleasant manner than the first time she stormed off with our food. Minutes later she returned (this time with no food) asking again 'if we were ready'? Gesturing towards our half eaten starter I replied 'No, who dictates the pace here'? To which she snarked 'the restaurant, otherwise it would be chaos'! Then she stormed off again. In maybe another 5 minutes she returned and said 'if you don't take the food soon the fries will go soggy and the kitchen are not going to make you any more'. This is possibly the rudest thing that has ever been said to me in a restaurant. It is not the customers fault if the restaurant messes up the timing. This is not an excuse for poor quality food, the likes of which we were about to receive. Again, we wish we had walked out at this point. After the ordeal of trying to buy ourselves 15-20 minutes to enjoy our starter the waitress finally returned and threw our mains down in front of us. As she had previously promised the fries were indeed soggy and cold from the attempt to keep them warm. In addition, the burger was cold in the middle, with a stale bun and the fish was luke warm and very chewy. Neither of us ate much of our meals. When the waitress returned to ask us how the food was we gave her the above description. She seemed surprised about this and was again quite rude. She then returned saying that she would knock 50% off the total bill for the troubles. This seemed reasonable to us as commiseration for the diabolical experience we had at Murphy's! However, when the bill arrived it turned out she meant just 50% off the food not the whole bill as she had previously stated. Even at 50% off that food and service was abysmal! By this time however we just wanted the whole experience of this place to be over. So we settled the bill and left, taking comfort in the fact I would be writing this 1* review today! On a side note I would like to add that we are not particularly slow eaters, and we saw the table next to us have to refuse the bill as they said they were still eating their dessert! Overall, this is a low end, poor quality tourist trap that is to be avoided at all costs! It seemed to me that nearly all the customers were passing trade and therefore there was no incentive to provide quality food or service. The staff are rude, the service is terrible and the food was awful.
Staff was friendly enough. Food was so-so. Atmosphere was okay. Would of preferred a window seat. Seemed more of a tourist stop. My lunch at a smaller restaurant on the Halifax waterfront was better.
A must visit to dine eat for those visiting HFX. I recommend summer time to enjoy the view better. :) Food is great and the price is decent, except for lobsters they are a bit pricey. Otherwise, a good spot to eat.
We were shown a table quickly for such a busy restaurant. Found the patio was quite crowded with extra tables. Waiters lifting trays of dishes over my son's head while weaving threw. My apps were amazing. The scallops were a thing of beauty. However everyone else at my table got their food but I didn't. I waited a good 10 minutes and asked the waiter, he said it'll be coming. Everyone else finished their meal while I sat and waited. I got my fish in time to leave, they did compensate my bill after I complained. Food was good but service was poor.
We arrived for dinner on a Saturday we are seated then informed they have no lobsters of any size. We had mussels and chowder, 1/2 the mussels were undercooked and the chowder was cold, we had one beer. The bill was over 40.00 for this mess. It's on the dock so great view, we suggest you stay outside appreciate the view and eat somewhere else.
Service was good. Food wasn't bad. Limited menu.
Great place would recomend. Sea food by the water what more could you want. Service was decent and polite.
It was fine that there was a wait, but the staff kept changing the amount of time we had to wait, 15mins to 10 back up to 20 mins. I know the hostess can only do so much about that but it's still bothering us. Also, the menu has gone way downhill since we visited on our last trip. Being near the water while eating is nice.
the waitress Caley, did a fabulous job at making the experience a great one, she was very accomodating with letting us switch seats from inside to outside on a dime. The food was good too. My only qualms is that the menu is very short.
Nice venue on the water, very poor service from eager but obviously untrained staff. Food we received a miniature serving of lacking flavor or substance watery seafood chowder, the burger was tasty but some what overly greasy, fries cold and tough. We ate here years ago and hoped it had improved, it hasn't. Buy from a take out and find a seat dockside for better food.
personally my favorite place I ate on my first east coast vacation! the seafood chowder was amazing best I had! lobster was great as well. the covered deck right on the water was a great treat with beautiful views. server was very busy so a little slower but she was great. accommodating to infant children I was really impressed and will return on my next vacation out east :)!
This place was SO GOOD! It was so neat being right on the water, watching the waves and the boats while the sun was setting over the water. The feel of the restaurant and the staff were all amazing. The food was so good! Can’t wait for our next trip out east so we can pop in again!
Red lobster good for eating, very delicious!
My son and I had the fish and chips. We both found them to be very heavily battered, the batter was almost cooked and the fish was sorta mushy and cold. We are from Saskatchewan and wanted a great seafood experience...the atmosphere is wonderful...
Visiting Halifax for the day. Staff friendly service was good. Tried lobster rolls unfortunately shells in the food. Not good like getting shells in your eggs.
Nice place to be on the water having a beer. Food wasn't great for the higher price charged. Ordered lobster quesadillas and lobster mac'n cheese, both come with a side salad. What they don't tell you is the side salad is 1/2 to 3/4 of the plate. The portions of the food we actually wanted were tiny. The food itself tasted just okay. Neither my husband or I liked the side salad due to it having a weird ginger dressing on it.
Great location as the name says. The food was tasty. A mixed up order took some time to come. Server was very sorry for the delay.
Great fall color tour.. May include some activities for kids though.. Overall satisfied.
The restaurant is located in the harbour. The view is great. The service is excellent. The food is magnificent. We have ordered lobster meals. The lobster is at least 1.5-2 lbs. it’s cooked just right. The cole slaw and potato salad …
Beef cheeseburger and fries were awesome. Salmon was really good. Paddock was okay. Service was okay. They were good seating us immediately and getting us served but didn't see our waitress at our table until it was time for the bill to be paid. Can get super busy in there.
Staff was very friendly but kept delivering the food to the wrong tables. They need a better system. Once delivered, the food was very tasty
1) Very slow service. Were there for 2 hours for 3 men to eat their meals. It cut into touring time too much so we only had 3/4 hr. in Marine Museum....peed me off! On top of that, they weren't overly busy. 2) Had to tell waiter 2 times to bring me my beer. Bad Start...lol 3) They allow birds to fly into eating area. Then the little kids feed them and they never leave. Could easily be prevented with fishing line. 4) Ordered lobster meal that comes with corn. Corn was so old and mushy, didn't like it. 5)Men's washroom was a mess. Paper towels flowing over the waste bin. All over the floor. 6)Lobster was barely warm when it finally came out. For the price, was expecting a better lobster. Was a little chewy. 7) Their dinner was supposed to come with clams... they ran out. WILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN!!!!!!!! AND SUGGEST NO ONE ELSE WASTE THEIR TIME IN THERE.
So once we got there we were informed about a 30 minutes wait. It was about 6.30 pm. We waited and they respected the time and we got seated around 7pm. At 7.30pm the waiter comes and ask for our order, just after we complained for the second time that nobody was serving us, because after seeing 5 waiters doing nothing for about 20 minutes we started to get upset. Once they came they informed us that there was no more fish and chips and other dishes. Since I'm lactose intolerant at the entrance during my wait I asked them about a dairy free dish and they said that fish and chips was suitable for me. So after that we left. I would not recommend at anytime unless they change management.
The tour to George's Island was wonderful. The trip on the Harbour Queen II was comfortable and respectful of public health protocols. The crew were courteous, patient and well organized. The departure times on both sides was as advertised. The tour guide from Parks Canada was knowledgeable, patient, and professional. I hope this adventure can resume next year.
Very disappointed, asked for a table for one... Several times the hostess used the term "Just" one. Way to make a person feel like they're not worth serving because they are choosing to eat alone, and be their own company. The chicken wasn't cooked on premises and was served ice cold on top of a Caesar salad, not a sign of a grill mark, or an attempt to make it anything but rubbery and gross. Edit: in response to Murphy's reply. Being that I am a chef myself, I found your response to be a sub-par excuse. That meat was shoddy and if the cook did indeed prepare it they should be profoundly ashamed of it. I have also checked with peers, and other restaurateurs, who have all stated that they would never allow cold meat to be to be offered when grilled chicken was requested.
Very nice atmosphere. The server was very attentive. The food tested amazing. I would highly recommend
The service was terrible, we waited, and waited for our wait staff, then we explained that we were on a time schedule, and then, we waited for our drinks, eventually they turned up. The wait for the food, interminable, we had to ask where the food was. When in arrived it was rather skimpy, I ordered seafood linguine, four scallops, four shrimp and four mussels, it was tasty. My wife's Buffalo chicken was soaked in sauce, yuck. We will not be back.
A bit pricy but so good! Had the fish and chips. Really great tasting, hot and probably the best fries ever.
Good nutritious food. I specifically had a bruchetti chicken sandwich with lobster rolls on the side because the one I originally wanted the lobster sandwich wasn't available. However, you can't beat a good meal from this place. My parents came along and they had Haddock and Atlantic salmon which they were impressed by the cooking as well. We would definitely come again later.
Came here with a tour group for lubster lunch. Service was great. But people said the lobster weren't cooked properly and didn't taste very good. I don't eat shell fish, so I had grilled chicken instead. The stuffed chicken was quite tasty and juicy. The veggies and rice were pretty good too. Just wish they could have offered gravy sauce.
Great place to eat. Great location on harbor. Spacious restaurant. Lots of room. Lobster roll and mussels were very good. Friendly, attentive wait staff. Short pleasant walk from cruise ship along waterfront. Reasonable prices.
The seafood is excellent. I wasn't in love with the buffalo chicken wrap - the sauce wasn't great and there was a lot of it. The service was excellent, both when we called for our reservation and from our waitress. Attentive without hovering & the food came pretty quickly, even though we had a large group. I was especially impressed to see change tables in both the men's and women's washrooms!
Great food ???? I had a lobster routine ????
After traveling all day, we were so hungry. My boyfriend and I each ordered the seafood pasta, hoping to have a heavy filling meal. The pasta portion was very small. I only had 3 shrimp, 3 scallops and 3 mussels. The bread tasted very strange - like it was toasted with a cigarette. Not worth the price. My friend ordered the fish and chips and the portion was massive. Service was good. I will try this place again but will not order the pasta unless it's changed or better priced.
Amazing! Had a great time. And they were very patient and accommodating with my sister who is physically challenged.
I was one of a group of 12 who gathered together for dinner and had a very positive experience at Murphy's on the Water last weekend. The entire experience was largely the result of a very friendly and accommodating host/waiter/ bartender, Charles, who literally bounced at every request that was made. There was a wide variety of food ordered and everybody expressed delight with their meal. We will certainly visit Murphy's on the Water with that sensational waterfront view next time we are in Halifax.
Beer samples were too small, but thanks for the water ????
Well run deep sea fishing tour. Pretty much all 20+ people on the boat caught at least 1 fish. The captains and guide were very helpful. The guide even taught us how to gut/clean the fish. Would recommend to other large groups who want a deep sea fishing experience. I thought we got good value for the price we paid.
