Too salty- I had the Kempsters skillet. Their ham is very very salty! Supposed to have hollandaise on top- didn't see very much of that and it didn't taste like hollandaise that I'm used to. Charge$2.75 for a cup of coffee!! Wow!!! Bf had hamburger sandwich- not much meat and you get one very small scoop of mashed potatoes.

Always a reliable place to eat with good food. Can be busy at times but our group of 10 Wednesday morning breakfast arrived in less than 10 minutes and coffee cups were never empty. There are cheaper and more exspensive places for breakfast but for large groups, they got it covered.

Went for lunch. Waited for a while for our server. Once they arrived, it felt as they were too busy to take our order. I asked for a high chair 2 times and waited over 30 minutes before one was brought over. I order the one piece fish and chips for my daughter. The batter was gross. It either wasn't cooked long enough or they need to rethink how they do their batter. I would steer clear of getting fish and chips, as theirs is subpar.

Somehow the kitchen staff managed to mess up every aspect of a simple breakfast. Eggs were overpowered by the taste of cooking oil. The toast was smothered in way too much butter to be even slightly bearable. The hash browns were burnt and the bacon was uncooked. Pathetic.

Overall a great place for a casual sit down meal. Serves a good variety of western foods,. We ordered a seafood chowder, pulled chicken sandwich and Haddock bites. Overall everything tasted good, the chowder had a good proportion of seafood in it and it was a pretty thick chowder served with a great biscuit. The pulled chicken had crispy onion on top of the chicken which greatly enhanced the texture, and the chicken itself was soft and flavourful. The Haddock bites were breaded and deep fried peices of haddock, the breading is well done and crispy the Haddock taste is a kind of muted from the breading but it's still pretty good. On a side note about the sides they offer a pretty good variety of sides to order we had a side of rice. The tables are well spaced and well kept. The decor is as expected for a family restaurant. Service is quick and courteous. Parking is sufficient but the way the spots are layed out is a bit annoying. Overall I recommended this place!

Was my first time here, and I got traditional clubhouse sandwich. I love their fries and the chicken so much! The fries was super crunchy and chicken was pretty tender ????there was so many ppl there when I went there, so it was a little bit slow to get my food, but the server was so so so friendly and checked our table very often. Amazing lunch time visit. Very impressed with the staff and the precautions they take given Covid-19. Staff clearly explained the importance of Social Distancing and what they were doing to enforce it. Gave my wife and I confidence knowing we, other patrons and staff would remain safe. Too many places are not following the requirements for social distancing in the same way staff at Kempsters do. Hats off to all staff.

Last Saturday my wife and I went and ordered a meal and appetizer. We arrived at 4:30pm since we had skipped lunch that day. The waitress was friendly. It took half an hour to get our appetizer, and almost 40 minutes to get our meal after the appetizer. The restaurant wasn't overly busy and people who arrived after us were eating their meals before we got our appetizer. The waitress offered us a free dessert (which we did not want to wait for. We were ready to leave.) The waitress discounted our bill by $10.00 when we received it at 6:00pm. We've been to Kempsters before on a Saturday with the same type of service. It seems they have a hard time getting their act together on Saturdays!

Very good food. Menu has a wide variety of appetizers, soups and salads, burgers, steaks and much more. They recently had the restaurant renovated and it looks very nice inside, free parking and wheelchair accessible. Waitstaff are very attentive to the needs of their customers. I had the quesadilla meal off the appetizer menu and it was tasty and full of filling. It filled me up for lunch. My wife enjoyed her food too. Whenever we are in Halifax for an appointment we usually head there afterwards. Open concept, but cozy at the same time. Would recommend to anyone looking for a reasonably priced meal with great portions and very tasty. It is like a family restaurant and we love going there.

4 of us had the steak special. One was inedible, 2 were poor in quality and the fourth was barely passible. Staff was friendly but not enough of them. Over 40 min for food. They need more workers there. When asked about the food we told the host how bad it was and he did nothing but offer a weak apology. (Not his fault as it was obvious he was not trained properly). Washrooms were disgusting.

What a disappointment. Kempster's was always so good, but after tonight's meal, we will never be back. We took my Dad out for his 81st birthday. He loves it at Kempster's and always orders a hot hamburger sandwich. He said it was good, but there was no peas on top. My husband always gets the meat loaf. The potatoes were from a box, not the real thing. The vegetable was sweet potato. And the meat loaf was mushy. So he had potato from a box, sweet potato, and mushy meatloaf. I have fish and chips. That was good, however the batter was very crispy. My husband and I got lemon meringue pie to go. That was the worst pie I have ever had. There was liquid in the bottom of the take out container, so the whole bottom crust was a soggy mess. The meringue was gritty and very sweet. I think the pie was a week old. The waiter didn't even come back to see how are meals were. So all in all it was the worst $72.39 I have ever spent. My family will have to find a new favorite place, because Kempster's isn't it. After reading the reviews after we got home, it doesn't seem that the staff, management or owners really seem to care.

Editing this review. We went there this morning for a Sunday breakfast. The restaurant has had some refurbishing which is very nice. Unfortunately the menu is limited and I do mean limited. My husband wanted an omelet, but no, they weren't making those, he could try the Western Sandwich. All I wanted was some bacon, one egg and a side of toast. All I could get was a much larger plate of food, 3 eggs and all kinds of meat for $14 or more dollars. No exceptions. So we left, a pity, we used to be able to get good food and service without paying an arm and a leg for what we didn't want. Perhaps when the pandemic is over the owners will revert to some sort or normal on the menu.

The only good thing about Kempsters was, it was open for breakfast. I wanted to take a friend and her husband out for breakfast for her “70”th Birthday. We arrived at 9am to a full parking lot but found a parking space. We were seated, after a few minutes wait. Our orders were taken by 9:10 am. and coffee served. Never saw the waitress, again until 9:40am, when she delivered our food, on extremely hot plates. We asked for a coffee refill, so she returned to fill our cups and disappeared. Once we started eating we realized that the food was lukewarm and tasteless. Probably sitting for most of the time under a heat lamp. My French toast was tough to cut and the ham was almost burned on one side and tough to chew. The home fries seemed to collapse when I poked them with a fork. My friends had cold scrambled eggs, which were a strange consistency that could only come from a carton and tasteless home fries, as well as an omelette with everything in it, except taste. The waitress did come back to ask how many checks we wanted and left to bring it with more coffee. It was my treat and I should have said something right away, but I didn’t want to make a scene and two of our group are diabetics and had to eat as soon as the meal arrived, to avoid low blood sugar. The restaurant was not full and a group that arrived after us, was served and almost finished by the time we received our meals. The price for the quality of food was atrocious and I will never recommend or return to this establishment!

My family and I decided to try Kempsters for my birthday super. We were a party of 10. The meal was very processed, mashed potatoes were instant and very wet and soupy, vegetables were frozen and not 100% sure but even the turkey seemed to be processed. For $16 it was very small portions. The meals did not come with rolls and when my sister asked for 1 she was told it would be an extra 40 cents, we dropped an easy $300 and they wanted .40 cents for a roll. Sorry to say but there are 10 people spreading the word and 10 unsatisfied customers who will never return. Very very disappointing.

It had been over a year since I had been to this establishment, and I was extremely impressed with the updates to the interior of the restaurant. But wait staff was not above reproach. The issue I had was that when my girlfriend and I were having our meal together we were not asked how our meal was, and I personally had to leave my table and ask a different waitress to bring us our bill after we had been waiting for 35 minutes for our original waitress to come back.

This is an amazing restaurant that has delicious, homemade type meals....and the portions are never small. The staff, all of them, are very friendly, polite and truly give their all to you when they are waiting on you. Well to start my hubbys sausages were not cooked all the way through and were pink .. the supervisor was our waitress mind you and she only refunded our coffee and tea not his meal. She wasn't even going to do that until I mentioned to her did you tell the cook about the sausages. The price you pay for something you should have it cooked properly. Don't think we will be going back here
