Went to go buy a betta for my little sister, I've never been here before. After finally finding them there wasn't much selection but there was a dead one covered in algae. It was very difficult to obtain customer service from the 2 girls working there ( may have just been an off day) and the one girl honestly said "how should I know." Didn't really seem to care we were even in the store, or that we were interested in buying. Lots of cool fish otherwise! It does seem like a very interesting store and good for supplies though.

I went to the store to get some algea wafers thinking I needed some and when talking to the employee he informed me that for the fish I had I didn't need them. He could have easyea said nothing and let me spend 20 bucks on unnecessary food and I don't know to many pet stores that would actually down sell you on something better rather then upsell just for the quick buck

EDIT: The passive aggressive follow ups on negative reviews for this business are painful to read. They sold me an aquarium stand with a manufacturer defect that cost 224$ when I told them about the problem they told me they would not exchange it, that all sales are final. I recommend you to shop at Aquarica instead because the owner Paul cares about his customers and maintains great relationships with the company's that supply him products. The owner of Aquarica is helping me sort out this situation with the stand manufacturer and the manufacturer has arranged for Aquarica to replace the stand. I'm surprised that 1 Fish 2 Fish isn't able to handle these situations more professionally where other businesses in the area have no problem stepping up to support customers. I wont be back to 1 Fish 2 Fish.

Terrible. Ordered a branching toxic hammer frag and it didn't arrive, they had send me a common wall hammer instead. Contacted the store owner, took a week to get answers out of him and get things moving. Contacted the store they confirmed to me that the frag I ordered was never in stock and was instructed to ship a different frag without asking me what I wanted. After that discovery I immediately told the owner that I wanted a refund I was tired of waiting after him to set things straight after a week. He immediately banned me from ever purchasing from his store again and refunded me the for the coral. Oh but wait it gets better he charges me 30$ for the common hammer that was sent that I never wanted with EMT and kept the money. Buyers beware if you want to buy from him go to the store not his website.

I really like this store and some of the people that work here. But a couple of times I came in (with the same combination of people working) it was pretty hard to get some help. What happened was I was talking to an employee about the price of a fish, he was unsure and didn't seem to interested to find out (he did tho) it was a bit out of my price range so I said I would take a few of a different fish he said ok and went to get a bag ( I assumed) Another customer asked him a question and I was history. I stayed by the tank thinking he would return in a moment but nope, he was fishing out something for the other customer then disappeared for a bit. I went to look for him but he was now helping another customer get some fish. This is the second time this has happened to me in the store by the same person. So I left the store without the fish, plants or food I came in for. It's not easy for me to get to the store so i felt kinda letdown as now I will have to pick my things at PetSmart :(

Great quality plants an great online service! I bought Tropica 5 Aponogeton Boivinianus bulbs online from 1 Fish 2 Fish and they all arrived healthy and started sprouting leaves right away. After about 1 month, the largest reached 35 inches and had 3 flowering stems! I even had to reduce the proportion of water removed each week as they are gobbling up all the nitrates.

I have supported this store for quite a few years, I'm going to explain the story but shorten it up, a few years ago i bought a " vampire pleco" for 148$ but i found of from a fish forum that i was a snowball pleco worth substantially less, that day i received a phone call from the owner that was yelling into the phone, we found common ground after an hour on the phone and i was told they could help me out with my next purchase for a fish, months down the road i went to purchase more fish and it was never honored as the store owner could not be reached by staff, i have spent thousands of dollars trying to support this local business but i regret it, the owner threatened to ban me from the store during the phone call for writing a bad review on google. Unfortunately there is not a lot of these kind of stores locally but i have to toss in the towel, i bought 6 guppies today and one was missing a fin, i noticed it in the bag when i got home and reached out to the store and it's a odd situation where the employee's are scared of the owner, to switch to another 7 $ guppy they need to go through him for everything, and they are powerless to make their own decisions. They have gone through a lot of employees and i think the owner is to blame for that, you can forget about a return policy or even exchange, the minute you walk out of the store you are responsible for any purchase and will not get support if something breaks or isn't right. Unfortunately the big box stores and online will be where i go from now on. Today was the final straw and they will lose thousands more of my dollars over a 7 dollar fish and dealing with previous situations poorly. I'd stay clear of this place, most of their in store items can be bought online, there is a fish store in bedford that is very professional and can help you out.

This is truly a wonderful store for all your aquarium needs, it was a long drive for me but I had ordered an alien betta (they have an excellent website to order online), and ended up buying some Anubias as well. I will definitely be coming back, the alien betta is a gorgeous female and is very inquisitive settling into her new home! The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful during my time there, and their selection of fish and plants is the best I've seen anywhere. Truly an inspirational and passionate place for budding aquarists!

Their clownfish tanks were filled with feces and a dead clownfish, bought a clownfish here before and two weeks later the clownfish and the one in my tank were dead would not recommend there are much better stores in Halifax such as afk reefs that sell high quality fish and not this garbage I will never come here again.

Meh. That sums up our experience here. Don't get me wrong this place has a lot going for it such as their massive selection of fish and the overall quality of said fish is really good but the problem is the fish are way over priced, they won't guarantee their fish, the staff isn't the greatest, and the staff isn't as knowledgeable as they should be for the level of condescension they display. They also misrepresent fish which we found out after buying some fish and to be honest this place doesn't seem like a store I would want to go to if I was new to the hobby To make my point lets use this example... their Electric Blue Jack Dempseys. To preface we did not buy these and these weren't the misrepresented fish we bought but we have had enough EBJDs to know this. They want obscene money for a fish that is almost guarunteed to die and are very poorly bred ones at that. EBJD are so hard to keep because they randomly die... But you don't know this and you buy the fish. They won't guaruntee the fish that is more than likely going to die, the fish is way over priced, and the staff doesn't tell you they are going to probably die on you. Would you want to shop here? So... Meh. We will personally not come back.

I believe this has got to be one of the largest, if not the largest fish store in Atlantic Canada. When not in mid-pandemic mode normally carry a good selection of the usual plants. Probably the best stocked outlet around for consumables such as filter media, fertilizers, etc... Carry quite a few tank sizes in store and can also order in for you. Wheel chair accessible and their new location is in a convenient downtown-ish area. Not the place to go for rare livestock but tend to keep a good inventory of the usual suspects.

I honestly hate writing a poor review on a LFS because they are so rare to come by in HRM ... but you guy's really should take more pride in your presentation and organization... 85% of the fish every time i come in the store are unlabelled... i work in burnside so this isn't a rare occurance, no price, no name, inconsistent labels, in a tank containing 5 different species of fish you'll find one label for a fish that may not even be still be in the tank... not even a very picky person when it comes to this type of thing but honestly who wants to ask what the price is on everything in the store.. same goes for the wood/rocks/substrate... like i understand how busy it probably can be in there and how many projects are constantly on the go.. but take a weekend get someone in and properly label the tanks, You would greatly benefit from displaying the pricing with consistent legible labeling... something anyone would expect walking into a business open to the public. For a store that someone as well known as The King of DIY; UaruJoey recommends and plugs in his videos you aren't doing his great reviews much justice... i walked in today no one said a word to me and I left wanting to write this poor review because honestly you've been way over a year and one would think at some point the overall presentation and organization of your tanks would eventually come together... i hate to say it but your recently opened competition in Bedford is blowing you guys out of the water in nearly all aspects, including customer service. But maybe you just dont care.. Hate even having to say this but it seems like it really is nothing more then carelessness.. hope to see some improvements i'll always keep checking back but there isn't much motivating me to support this business.

Recently had surgery and water changes on my salt water aquarium is very difficult as the work is to heavy while I am recovering. This store is simply amazing. I'd drive to Dartmouth any day to get my aquatic animals from them rather then somewhere else because I know they won't die on me a day to two days after buying them. The aquatic animals are very well priced, the tanks are very well maintained there are no dead fish in the tanks like at other pet stores, and the fish are thriving in their colours so you know they are being properly taken care of. The staff are kind, friendly and knowledgeable.

The first time i ordered fish from here i was delighted. The gentleman was quick, sent me photos of what i was receiving and shipped it all out in a matter of hours. However, that was after weeks of waiting to hear back from other employees, including the supervisor Kathleen. Now the second time around i find myself getting the run-around again. I wish i could be serviced by the same employee, but unfortunately he's not working again for a while. I find everyone is less then pleased to help me. I bought 2 crayfish from them and about 2 weeks later one of them died. The other one is doing fine and is healthy. The one that died must have been sick when I bought it from them. I called to see if they could do anything for me and they said no. I was not told about a no refund/return policy when I bought the crayfish. That should have been said or shown that it was on the receipt. Terrible customer service, do not recommend.

Wrote Jan 18 1PM (I will reply when the store does): Unwelcoming store. You feel the bad vibes right when you enter. It's like customers are doing a favor to buy here. And be ready: if you go their into their way, yes, they will give you that look "customers!". Seems like you're shopping at their warehouse - like something you should not be doing haha. Then you can say "it's during COVID-19". But it was exactly like that before COVID-19! Haha. They carry essential pieces especially for Fluval canister filters and their prices are very good. But I'd rather save fish from Petsmart or get them from a nice store in Bedford than coming back. From now on my pieces will have to come from Amazon and would be a little more expensive but, at least I won't be stressed out. Too bad that our kids loved to go and see their freshwater stingrays on a huge tank. Also too bad again because it is a really good store with great prices and selection. It is very unfortunate to have this atmosphere at store.

So I was in the other day to get a whole tank setup as I haven't had fish in a very long time. The staff were helpful and assisted in putting together what I would need and let me know that for best results I should wait on fish and get my setup going for a few days so that none of my fishy friends would have a bad time. I got home and setup the tank only to discover that the remote for the lights wasn't working. The staff were again, totally awesome and had a remote on hand we could test with to see if it was the lights or the remote. Once we determined it was the remote they were able to contact a supplier, give them my address and there is a remote on it's way to my place. All the staff at this shop are awesome.

I felt a dire need to inform everyone of this cut-above fish store that offers not only an impalpable variety of fish and supplies, but most importantly reliable and healthy fish! I purchased a Redcap oranda goldfish "Melvin" 2 months ago and they are super healthy! At first they were very shy and skitzy, but after a while of being subject to a frequent feeding schedule, they began to warm up to me a lot. My fish will follow my finger, and sometimes feed from my hand. The staff there are incredible, they are sincere and genuine people. One of which helped me pick them out and gave me some tips on how to care for the fish and helped me pick out some plants which are now thriving in my tank. After my bad experience with multiple PetSmart's, I have declared this fish store to be the only reliable fish store in all of Nova Scotia. 12/10 - amazing customer service and amazing fish.

I ordered a blue acara and was shipped a yellow instead. I am breeding these fish and needed a female. I was disappointed to say the least. I contacted the owner who basically implied that I was lying and that it couldn't possibly be a yellow. I sent videos and had people confirm the id of the ish. I was ignored for 2 days because they.had received a huge order. I wish the owner had acknowledged that. As a result I put a comment on the Facebook page and as a result.i was banned from ever ordering from them again. Even the staff I spoke to in regards ti my refund thought that was excessive. I've been told that this is how the owner deals with problems instead of Making it right. A refund did not solve this issue. I wanted the acara.oh well... at least his staff was helpful but then owner needs to brush up on his customer service skills. Blocking customers is not good for business. I did not attack the owner as per his response. My comment on their page was not horrible. All the owner had to do is explain that he was busy. I wasn't angry I just wanted this issue resolved. I took pictures of this fish and it was indeed a yellow. The owner of this store is making me look like a horrible person and I am not. I have heard that he does his alot. Banning people when they call you on a mistake is no way to do business. Legally you cant ban me from the store because of a negative review. This is childish. I dont care if you move a store to Moncton. I have no intentions of buying from you again. I hope you learn from this and treat your customers better in the future.

I've had nothing but good experiences there. And the new location is looking great. The only reason its not 5 stars is pricing compared to other stores, but that being said I've also scored some fantastic deals there too.

Made an online order in early November and eventually had to cancel it because they’re too lazy to ship the fish. I emailed around the middle of the month to figure out what was going on because I hadn’t received any information about shipping or anything. They told me they would ship the fish soon and were just trying to get it booked with FedEx. By the end of the month I still had nothing so at this point I emailed again and said if they can’t do it to just refund me my money. I got refunded the same day (only good part about this) and never got any explanation or apology on the botched order. If you’re ordering in Canada I recommend Shrimp Fever our of Scarborough. You get everything within a week and everything is always healthy. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS COMPANY!

I was in the shop with my wife and 3 children looking at fish. My oldest boy spent $80 and the other spent $35 So we weren't just browsing and shop there a few times now. That was our last visit to the store. My wife and I were followed around like we were trying to steal..... and they treated my daughter and sons poorly, like they were bothering them. So here we have 3 children and myself who have an interest in fish and all the fun things that go with it and we will never step foot in that place again. Your loss and another shop's gains.

Just went in for some coral asked the price of some zoa and buddy told me he doesnt know the prices for any coral and hes not the coral guy, told me to come back the next day... Seriously you cant even call someone? Whats the point of being opened if employees arent going to sell anything? This place is waste of time with service like that and I wont be back!

I was in the store a while back. I have a marine tank and was looking for new corals. Their selection was very low and not a lot of higher end corals. Was informed they are working on trying to fix that but will be a while yet. Fish selection was great and their selection of products to support my tank are reasonable priced. Their website is extremely lacking on coral selection. I find it very hard trying to find out what's there and what things look like before I buy what I want for shipping.

While I have no doubt the store itself is great, I cannot recommend buying plants from them online. Half the plants I received were dead on arrival, and one of them was so bad it was just a pot of roots. It took weeks to get a partial refund, and after over two months of trying to save the remaining plants, everything died--even the moss! After discussing my experience with another local store, they figured the plants froze in transit, which best explains the condition in which they were received. So, if you order online, ask that they include a heat pack!

Terrible first experience. I will definitely be shopping elsewhere for equipment and fish. Staff "recommended" a fish that would be compatible with my established tank which then killed off six fish. I returned the fish and was told they don't do refunds or exchanges "It says so on your reciept" I was offered an exchange of half value since I didn't like that response. I declined the replacement. You can keep it and I'll keep my future business. I recommend the live fish store in Bayer's Lake.

Wondrous place but needs improvement. Things that can be improved: Pricing. I come here to spend money. I however will not spend full price 8.99 for baby cribs that are 1/2 an inch. I wont pay 5.99 for rasboras that are even smaller. This is just a couple examples of what I saw throughout the store. Some of these species have a high mortality rate at that size and also, I dont want to pay full price for something i cant enjoy for another couple of years. The other thing was the misuse of space. I can tell you guys are cramped in there and trying to utilize every square foot so its really cramped and high chance of knocking things over or unable to pass a customer in an aisle. There is too much hard goods in the store. Too much substrate, too much tank chemicals out back etc taking up precious space. Not to mention the tanks that are running that are empty. Also I cannot see the fish that are at my feet. That being said here are the good things I loved the way the plants looked. They were placed in rows that looked like a vegetable garden with some nice lighting . This is not only visually appealing but It makes it easy to find the plant I want without some being unnoticed. I also love your salt water variety. Very beautiful specimens , as well as the growing coral all lined up like a garden arrangement also. You guys have alot of variety. I feel more confident buying fish from here rather than Petsmart where everything from there you take home dies within a few days including snails.... It was a wonderful experience to see all the visually appealing creatures and flora in the store. The only real issue I found was that small fish were too expensive. The 10-20% extra vs Petsmart prices are fine if the fish are trusted to be healthy, but not for tiny babies of the species.... I just wont do it.

I can’t speak to their in-store service, but if you’re shopping online I highly recommend you stay away from these guys. Terrible experience. I was searching for a very specific, hard to find, aquarium plant and I found it online at 1 Fish 2 Fish. I also added a very common plant I wanted to my cart since I’d be paying for shipping anyways. This order was placed on May 25th and I paid for the order a few minutes later via EMT to the email given to me on the check-out page. Three days later, on May 28th I received an email saying that they were still waiting on payment and if I would like to cancel my order. I quickly emailed back saying no I paid for this order the same day I placed it, and included a screen shot of the money transfer from my bank. They asked which email I sent the payment to and I told them I used the email given on the checkout page. It turns out it was their old email and I had to go back and cancel that money transfer and send another money transfer to the new email provided. This was innocent enough, just annoying for someone like me who isn’t the best at navigating technology, but I got it sorted out. The next day, on May 29th I received another email from the store saying that they would not be able to get the plant I ordered and if I’d like to replace it with something else instead. I politely replied “No thank you. If that’s the case, I’d like to just cancel my order and get my money back. Thanks anyways.” I never got a reply, so two days later, on May 31st I sent them another email. “Hello again. I haven’t heard back, how do I arrange to cancel this order and get a refund?” They replied the following day. “Hello, I will have that refunded for you as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience” Another four days go by and I still haven’t been refunded, so I email them once again on June 5th. “Hi there, wondering what the status of this refund is and when I should expect it?”. Like I said, I sent that email on June 5th. It’s now ANOTHER four days later (June 9th) and I’ve heard nothing back. I also have not been refunded the nearly $50 I sent them two weeks ago. I’ve never experienced anything like this before! At this point I don’t think I’ll be getting my money back, so consider this a nearly $50 review. Judging by all the positive reviews, they must have pretty good in-store service, but for anyone thinking about ordering from this company online, STAY AWAY. You will save yourself from an absolute nightmare buying experience.

Well I was here today and have to say the store is not bad. Great coral selection. Fish selection is not horrible. The staff member i dealt with was great help and priced are very reasonable. For dry goods they compare to ether the same you pay online or better. The do ship by bus which is great. But their website is not very good and the staff member said once they have that shorted out. It will be updated much better. In the mean time he said just message them on face book or give them a call, they are more then happy to give you prices on everything as well as shipping if need be. they have been open for a year now and still have some growing kinks to work out. But over all I can say I was very satisfied with the help I received and the selection they had.

Stopped into 1 Fish 2 Fish looking for a tank and stand for a Christmas gift. Walked in to 3 young staff standing at the desk playing with a bird. Stood there for a few minutes, no one asked if we would like help, so we asked if they had what we were looking for. We were shown the tanks and when I asked about a stand for it,, we were told to look around and find one we liked - then everyone disappeared into the fish room. (I should add, we where the only ones in the store). Stands were in boxes, none on display and after hunting down a staff member, we were told if we wanted to see what they looked like, we should use our phone to view photos on their website as under no circumstances would the boxes be opened. I do realize that at this point we should have left, that was my mistake, and I regret it. We were told the Seapora tank was the best and the Marineland stand was the sturdiest (and most expensive). When I questioned if that tank would fit in that stand (different manufacturers), I was assured it would. At NO point were we told that all sales were final and neither stand or tank could be returned. As the stand would not fit in car, we made the hour trip home with the tank, picked up a truck and made the hour trip back to Dartmouth for the stand, and another hour home. Unpacked the tank and stand and lo and behold, the tank is a touch too long to fit in stand. Called 1Fish2Fish to tell them. Her first question was "Have you taken them out of the box" - uh, yeah, how else would we know it didn't fit. I mean, how many people set up their tanks with equipment still in box (sigh). It was then I was told stands and tanks are not returnable - but you sold us a stand that doesn't fit the tank. Was told it didn't matter - very strict return policy. She then proceeded to tell us it was our fault as we didn't test the fit while in store which a. we couldn't because we were not allowed to and b. your employee assured us it would fit. When I insisted on a return under the circumstances, I was again told about the return policy. She then said not to bother bringing either back the following day as we would be wasting a trip in. So, over $600 later, here we are. Please don't support this business. Please read the reviews, as I should have done beforehand. Merry Christmas 1Fish2Fish

Bought 4 plants online and it took a month for them to ship the plants to me in Alberta and when they arrived 3 of the plants were on deaths door and one had been so thoroughly crushed in transit that it didn't have a single leaf on it. I have been there twice. The first time I was ignored, and when I ask for help I felt like I was nothing them. The selection of plants was disappointing. It was not the same when the king of DIY was there. But I thought I would give them a second chance. This time one of the staff was helpful and nice. I was still disappointed in the plant selection, so I order my plants online. They do have a nice selection of fish, however, if you're fish dies you are out of luck. They claim that the fish are healthy and if the fish dies it is your aquarium. They can not tell if all their fish are healthy. Unlike Petsmart that will give you a week or two.

I would compare trying to get service here like calling a 1-800 number. I've tried numerous times at thier old location, and numerous times at thier new location and it is always the same story. Couldnt be happier with this store. We buy all our marine fish and supplies here and the staff is great to deal with and the fish are excellent quality. They ship their fish to us by bus to moncton and they package them extremely well.
