Our pet store of choice for years. We came in just today with my three year old niece with a concern about her new hamster. The staff answered our questions thoroughly and enthusiastically. We're incredibly grateful for a place like petculture in town.

I called in advance to see if they could order a specific fish for me. I was told that they could as long as I paid for it in advance. I took the 40 minute drive out to Guelph to pay for the fish in question and to see about getting a new LED light for my one aquarium. When I got there I was preached at instead of talked to because the fish I want (albino iridescent shark) isn’t fit to be in an aquarium and all the manager did was criticize my choice in fish. I know how big this fish gets and I plan on putting it in an indoor pond not an aquarium but in any event they hesitantly and rudely put my name on the list in case they can ever get one even though I know they’ll never received that call. They had a pathetic choice of lighting selection and criticized people who shop on amazon to get their lights because they’re the ones who are making it impossible for businesses to sell anything for a decent price. Over all I had a terrible experience. I’d be more okay with being lectured about my choice in fish if they didn’t have predator fish who can also reach giant adult sizes and who are also unrealistic to keep in any regular aquarium. I won’t be returning. I am happy to report that I got my albino ID shark from another store who was more than happy to help me achieve my dream fish.

This is the place to go for fish in Guelph. For the most part, the fish looked healthy without apparent signs of disease. I saw one dead fish, which is par for the course. The variety is unlike what you’ll find elsewhere locally. I’m a sucker for apistogrammas and they had some beautiful Cockatoo males.. an unlikely species to find in a pet store with such a small fish section! I didn’t get the name of the staff person in this section, but we had a fun back and forth about water treatment and cichlid rearing, and watched slack-jawed as the angelfish spawned before our eyes. I only meant to look, but went home with some neon rainbows, who are getting along well with our other rainbows, Rams, and clowns. I’ll be back to see if they have some female apistos for our fire red male.

My experience @ Pet Culture Guelph was unparalleled to any experience I have had in the past in any other pet store. The staff were absolutely friendly and willing to assist with my every need. One employee in particular was a shining example of how all customer service personnel should be. He was a tall young gentleman with a very calm demeanor. I have been a customer at PetCulture in Guelph for years now, and have experienced nothing short of a welcoming environment. The staff is kind and knowledgeable, the store is well organised and presentable, and I love visiting all of the different little critters that they have there. Every time I bring my dog in, she is spoiled with treats and love from both staff and other customers! I also really appreciate the free nail trimmings that the store has repeatedly done for me so often in the past (and that I hope they continue for me in the future :P). So long as I'm in Guelph, I will always shop at this store... I love it! :)

I've found this place to be one of the cheaper pet stores in Guelph and they have a pretty decent variety in terms of foods, toys, leashes, and even pets. I've had varying experiences with the staff. One or two of them have been pleasant but more often than not I've felt ignored or that my business was inconveniencing the cashier. Not a big thing, but it stood out enough for me to remember. If you want to shop local, go here. If you want super friendly service, there are other good options.

Unfortunately this pet store supports the sale of wild caught animals. We were told by an employee some reptiles (chameleons) for sale were captured from the wild. This is not ok with me. Taking animals from the wild for the pet trade is a really big problem causing world-wide biodiversity loss with high animal mortality. Wild caught animals for the pet trade is not ok and for this reason I do not support this pet store.

Please go to a reputable source to buy your aquatic animals. Many of the fish in stock are of poor quality. A lot of them are stressed, showing loss of colour and nipped fins. I've given Pet culture many chances and every time I've been disappointed. I currently still have a pleco from them that showed to be emaciated with internal parasites on arrival. With $30 spent on medication he was cured. Just save your time and wallet by going to somewhere like Angelfins that specializes in fish care and welfare.

Edit: bought a ferret here who we only had a month and 11 days before we had to euthanize it for a congenital disease aka a disease it was born with so one we had bought it with, without knowing. Told the people at the store and they just shrugged and said it was past their guarentee. This is absolutely their fault and the fact they won't even give us the money we paid for him is disgusting seeing as we paid 3x that much just to find out we had to end his life. The worker we talked to especially didn't even put us on with the manager and honestly didn't even seem to care. Euthanizing a pet at any age is heart breaking but euthanizing a one month old ferret who should of lived 10 years at least, when you're only 20 is beyond devastating. My fiancé , my father and I balled from 5 am to 8 having to go through the whole progress. The least I would expect from Pet Culture, when we proved he had this disease when we bought him, was some respect and sorry but honestly also a refund. The money never mattered but it just showed how little they cared about their animals and their customers. Original: From hamsters crawling in mites to flat out lies, this store has given me every excuse in the book! When i bought a rat here, he was COVERED in mites AND BLOOD. When asked about it, I was told it was not blood and that male rats "just have orangy red patches on them. When I bought my snake I was told another obvious lie that it was only a year old. After buying the exact same species of snake as a baby, my thoughts were confirmed. Our baby snake is over a year old and it is NO WHERE near the same size. Not even half the size at over a year old. We knew when we bought the first one that it must have been at least FIVE TO SEVEN YEARS OF AGE. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. From fish to accessories, they charge double and then some on their products. Products that cost $6 at one store is $13 at theirs. $30 is $50+. I have never lost such respect for a store let alone it's workers as fast as I have with Pet Culture. I have also never been lied to so obviously. I have even seen them let bird fly loose around the store and when asked their response was "we don't have a net so we wait til they want to be caught." Anyone who has ever owned a birds knows that no bird EVER wants to be caught and anyone who knowledgeable in animal care knows that that kind of treatment is downright neglect. This store does not know what true animal care is and I know for a fact "expert" and pet culture will never walk hand in hand.

I previously had a bad experience at Pet Culture however I went in again recently to give them another chance because of one of their employees Natalie. She gave me a new look at the store. It is so clean, organized and the animals are well cared for. They have so much selection and the employees are helpful and efficient. Even if they do not know they will find out for you. I got a tank for my tortoise and it was on sale for such a great discount and good quality (Zilla brand).I will be back.

When I asked to see their vampire crabs I was told there were none left, I asked him to double check and when he lifted the cork bark up there was about 8 left but lots were unfortunately dead. That was one out of four tanks they had of them, so I assume it was the same for the rest of the tanks. If an animal is going to be put up for sale make sure that the employees at least know that there are animals still alive in their that need to be taken care of. The tank was extremely dry which is deadly for them and one of the enclosures had no water. Very disappointing, I hope this can be fixed. Also note they were not labeled and are in a corner tucked away basically forgotten about.

I am a Professional Dog train for The Pack Way dog training and as such have spent much time in this store training new puppies, and client dogs. I love this store, the staff is amazing! They are very open to people coming by and socializing their dogs and training their puppies. I always recommend my students to tour this store sometime, the staff is top notch - very friendly, doesn't linger, and very knowledgeable too! Their training gear, muzzles, toys, etc is one of the best around. I love that they have such high quality toys and great selection.

This is the best standard pet store in Guelph. For high end and specialty aquarium stuff go to Angel Fins, but for the day to day fish and supplies, as well as for other animals, go here. They try their best to help and can do special orders, though special orders can take longer then you may expect. I do like this store and it is good to have in town. I always recommend double checking sources when it comes to aquaculture and I would say do the same here, but the staff is still knowledgeable and try their best. I have run into a few issues here with some classification of fish and recommended tank partners, as well as some inconsistencies in the description of their behaviours, but that is normal in most fish stores, as there are too many fish to know all of them intimately and everyone has different experience. I do find they have fair prices for the most part though if you are going for large quantities they don't really have the stock because it is a smaller store. The hours are good and there is almost always tons of parking. All in all, I recommend this store and am happy to support them.

My fiancee found a lizard in a potted plant she bought from the store. We asked the knowledgeable staff on hand who deal with reptiles what to do and the long, short of it all is we now own a lizard. Moreover, we had a bad experience with a fly culture we bought. Essentially, it didn't last more than a day or two and we were told it should last a couple weeks. When we brought this up to the staff, they handled it professionally and the manager even gave us her card so we could get a hold of her if any more problems arose. All-around, the people there have been nothing but good to us.

I returned a dead fish to the store today which died in the bag , in the car ride to Rockwood. The guy told me it was dead from the cold. Yet the other 6 fish were fine. Then he proceeded to tell me he couldn't test our aquarium water because it was contaminated by the dead fish. The fish never was in the aquarium I repeated. It died in the water from the store. He was totally skeptical. The insinuation that I was negligent was insulting. In addition I am not the kind of person to try to beat anyone out of $3.29. I spent $75 on merchandise and will not be returning to spend anything.

My experience at Petculture Guelph was great! The staff was really helpful and they had all the products I was looking for, and if they didn't, the staff was able to come up with another solution for me. I went there to help solve an algae problem in my fish tank and the fish guy was able to show me the right fish for the job, and gave me some tips to keep the algae down in the future. Also, if you talk to the fish guys, they will show you some of the cool fish that you might overlook, and tell you what will go with what! Their new fish section looks great and they have so much more diversity now! I think I might need a new tank soon!

From completely unknowledgeable staff who just try and push a sale (even if that means lying to your face) to neglected animals covered in bugs. 10/10 would NEVER recommend this store and I have lost all respect, guess that's the difference between running a store for the love of the animals and running a store for a profit.

I refuse to go anywhere else in Guelph! I've had a chance to meet and talk to the owner, get help from most of his staff, and price shop them against the competition. They're by FAR the most caring pet store I've been to. They've taken the time to answer questions, recommend products, and even look things up for me when they weren't 100% certain. These guys are the best!

Great pet store. We went to find bedding for our crested gecko terrarium and were immediately helped by knowledgeable staff that pointed us in the right direction. We also spent some time checking out the fish, turtles, frogs, snakes, Guinea pigs and rabbits.

The staff here are very knowledgeable on fish and reptiles. Just make sure you are referred to the right guy. Tyler is great and my go to fish advice. Hes helped me figure out some problems I myself couldnt solve and I tend to do extensive research online before seeking guidance from others. Selection for fish here is very nice as well. Not much but they stock quality fish.

I visited this store a few days ago with an issue that I was having with my tank, and in all my years of keeping fresh and saltwater fish 30 plus years if I might add, i have never had a fellow hobbyist be so passionate and determined to fix my problem. iv been going to aquarium services for years and will never go back after I met this young man ,he not only fixed my issue but explained the reason and how to prevent it so if you ever need aquarium help ask for Brayden, this guy is awesome!

Really nice people and a good selection on betta fish. Trust me, if you don't need any you like, come back in a week and stock on koi, and plakat betta fish (at least when I went). They are also very understanding, I recently left pet food that I had purchased on the counter and forgot about it: when i called back to see if it was there, despite the fact that they couldnt find it's as long as I had my receipt they would get me a new one! So kind :(

I used to split my shopping between Pet Culture and larger chain stores. However, last time I needed ferret food I noticed that the price at Pet Culture was drastically higher than the chain pet store down the road (~$60 vs ~$40) for the exact same item. The employee told me that their product was always that price, but I've been buying this item (albeit irregularly) for about two years and know that's not the case. I'm fine with paying a bit extra to support local business, but I just can't justify it with that drastic of a markup. The employee I spoke to about it was a bit rude too, which annoyed me more than the price difference.

It's a great place but with covid and them being super busy make sure to watch pricing. I've overpaid 2x recently and not realized until I was home. I've shopped here since I can remember and it was a pet paradise. Thank you for sticking it out and stay safe. Still 5 stars because they are worth it and because over the years I'm sure whatever I have overpaid they have given in advice or free samples. At first glance this store seems great, but of after several visits you see what's really going on. It would be laughably bad if it wasn't so sad for the animals. Betta fish are consistently in very dirty water and it's a challenge to find a single healthy one. Many are on the verge of death. Last time I went a dead hermit crab was obviously dead and rotting in the very front of the enclosure. Not not mention that the enclosure for the hermit cabs is not appropriate for their survival (explaining the dead crab). Hatching bearded dragons are kept on crushed walnut shell (which has sharp edges and is not digestible) and are often lethargic with substrate caked around their nose/mouth. It seems like every time I go to buy fish they have fungus or ick, so I end up going to petsmart. You know it's a bad pet store when petsmart is better.

This is a VERY nice pet store. Easily the best I've been in. You might not call the presentation as polished as a PetSmart, but it looks good and feels good. They have a variety of saltwater and freshwater fish, a number of tank options, bunnies, rats, etc.

Staff are knowledgeable, but disorganized with certain animals. They stopped using a waitlist for rats after customers were having animals waitlisted and not showing up to adopt them. I called everyday for 5 days trying to get 2 female rats, and every day I called they told me they had my information and that the animals wouldn't be up for sale before they told me. The fifth day I called i got an "Oh yeah, we lost your phone number. The animals are for sale first come first serve." Apparently one other individual had been calling as well as me, and they didn't lose her contact info. She got the first and got 2/3 of the available girls. Tldr: I called daily for 5 days to get 2rats, was told that I would be the first to know when they were available, and then they were suddenly sold first come first serve. VERY frustrated. Going to petsmart from now on. (Same items are cheaper there anyway. )

My boyfriend and I went here to get cat food for our new Kitten that was found in a dumpster. The owner was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in finding us the best food for our kitten. He was able to give us high quality food for a reasonable price. The rest of the staff has always been helpful as well, as we have returned many times now. They also supply a great food called Fromm, which I have trouble finding anywhere else. I highly recommend this pet store!

I only go here for frozen rodents for my snakes but the staff are always super nice! I like that they'll let me look at the feeders before bagging them up so I can make sure I'm getting the right sizes for my animals. The store is well staffed, clean and always appears well stocked. The few times I've had questions they are knowledgeable and helpful. I can't speak to all of their offerings but it seems like they are a great store overall.

Really like this pet store. They helped my daughter after her first fish died (purchased at another store) with choosing a new healthy fish and with testing the pH of the water. Guelph water is very alkaline. Her new fish is almost a year old now. Oh and the staff also gave us an almond leaf out of a tank when there were none available to buy to help the fish feel better.

Staff are always very knowledgeable about all the animals they have. They refuse sale of rabbits around easter time and their rats are purchased from a very reputable breeder. Fish tanks are immaculate and all pet cages are always very clean. I highly recommend Pet Culture. It is my go to pet store as it always carries what I need, from a specific brand of bird seed to interesting fish stock and aquatic plants. 5 Stars.
