Excellent upscale fish and chips. Order in or take out. Lovely intimate dining area. Fresh seafood (not frozen, I don't think) LCBO licenced. Halibut, cold, poloc. Expect to pay around $15 for an entray. Not a cheapo fish and chip joint. Clean and friendly staff.

Golden Fish n Chips is one of my favourite places to eat in Guelph. Definitely top 3. The staff are friendly and hardworking. Before the stay at home order, when I went in to pick up food, everything was clean and sanitized! And I haven’t even mentioned the food. Their tartar sauce is to die for. Best fish n chips restaurant I’ve even eaten at. Overall, great service, great staff, and incredible food. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

We drove all the way from Oakville to this. The fish batter was light crispy and thin. The shrimp dinner was a good size. Fish fillets were huge. Excellent service. Loved how they served it in cardboard boxes. Made it super easy to eat on our picnic blanket. Highly recommend. Will be back!

My partner and I have not had fish and chips for years. We saw the good reviews at Golden Fish and Chips so we ordered their most expensive fish, the halibut. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the thin cardboard like pieces of fish. The batter was good but the fish was so thin we could only taste the batter. The fries had barely any salt, no worries we put our own on. The tartar sauce was delicious. It's unfortunate the fish was like cardboard other wise it may have been a better experience. We probably won't give Golden another try. The meals were not worth 20 dollars each.

Edit: 2 years later I went again and felt sick after eating a piece of fried cod with chips :( probably my fault due to not eating greasy food in a while. It was good but now I'm not confident going here again sadly. Went in at 8 p.m. on a Saturday (closes are 9), only an older couple in there and some students who came in and us, a party of three. The inside is nice, clean, has waiting spots for people getting take out, and this place could possibly seat a lot if it was busy. Onto the food: I think it's standard fare for good fish and chips. I've so far had their fried haddock and halibut. Both quite tasty. I myself ordered a bit of a 'healthier' option last night and had their pan-seared salmon while friends had their fish and chips. The salmon was amazing. Came with a side order of fries and coleslaw, and a nice piece of salmon. It was slightly crispy but very tender, flaky, and delicious. Well done to the cooks. The fish wasn't as greasy this time either from what I saw from my friend's dishes than when I ordered from them once too. I want to try their entire menu to be honest. Their dine-in menu is a bit more extensive than their take-out/delivery one so I'd recommend trying it one day inside as well.

Have been here a few times and really enjoyed the overall experience. Great food, service and prices. Recently, on 2 separate occasions, tried to go on Sunday (today!) after the Aberfoyle antique show and waited well past opening time (12 noon as published online) and no one showed. Called a couple times and couldn't leave a vm message as the system was not initiated. Disappointing that staff couldn't show-up to work on time. Probably will not go back.

My girlfriend and I checked Golden out a couple of months ago and thought they were pretty decent. Unfortunately, though, we won't be going back. When we called them to place an order a day ahead for Good Friday they told us we had to come in and pay in advance. When we arrived, they informed us that they were only selling their cheapest fish at an inflated price, which they didn't bother to tell us on the phone. They also wouldn't honour family packs per usual. I know Good Friday is huge for chip shops like this. I used to frequent one quite regularly back where I grew up, and that single day outpaced their best week by far. But they never changed their prices, or their menu. Disrespecting your customer on your busiest day of the year is a perfect way of ensuring they will not remain a loyal customer.

Wish there was 0 stars available. Worst place for fish and chips and chicken strips. First time coming here and will be my last. Within 1 hour of eating the food my boyfriend and I both had extreme stomach cramps. I have been sick for two days since eating here on Sunday, my boyfriend was sick the night of and the next day. The staff were very friendly but the food was terrible. I legitimately feel like I have food poisoning. Can't keep any other foods down. When I am feeling better I will be calling the location and asking for a refund because for the price paid was not worth the experience.

Not happy! (Food is good, service was bad). * Small restaurant too many dirty tables (only 2 other customers) * Drinks took too long getting to table (and forgotten and arrived at end of meal) * No condiments offered (Ketchup/tarter sauce) * No information provided about deal of the day and menu details. She asked if we wanted fries, I said I didn't know there were other options and her response was "guess I shouldn't have said anything". I still dont know the options! * Daughter was handed a plate of a substitute fish without her consultation. * Waitress did not check back at table during our 1hr visit * Stood at front counter for 5 mins waiting to pay, no other customers in restaurant, waitress was no where to be found * Called 4 times back to back immediately after leaving when personal belonging was left to ask them to set it aside until we could turn the car around. No answer. When going back in, table had been cleared and item was still on chair. Honestly, I can't make this up if I tried! I am disappointed :(

Excellent English fish and chips. Large portions. Your order will be ready in about 15 to 20 minutes. I recommend the haddock and chips. Don't forget the malt vinegar. They only accept cash or debit. No credit cards.

fish and chips here are at a good price and really hit the craving of fish and chips. when I think of fish and chips I think of what they serve here. the fries are handcut (or appear handcut) and are what I want from fries. their gravy is also delicious and goes great with their fries. good sized portions and good sized portions of fish. this place is great and I highly recommend it

Had a visitor from UK craving fish and chips. Venue is very clean, food was freshly made and enjoyed by visitor very much. Nice jazz music playing and decor is modern. The menu offered different fish dishes. Worth the visit.

LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Because our son is allergic to dairy, we don't have a lot of choice when it comes to safe, stress-free take-out. Finding a restaurant that understands how important allergies are and going the extra mile to prepare him a safe meal is priceless. Golden Fish and Chips is our first and only choice for a night off ;) Not only are the owners/staff super friendly, but the food is amazingly fresh and the portions are fabulous! If you haven't tried their food yet....what are you waiting for??!!!

Food is always good, portion size is good, service is always good. For take out orders, the only recommendation I'd change would be to serve the fish separate from the fries...instead of all in the box, perhaps a recyclable portion container would be more appealing to the buyer and ideal for the price. Overall, very good experience. his is the second time we have had dinner here.The fish and chips are great. the fish we like is Halibut but our cousins like pollock which we will maybe try next for something different(maybe)but we do like Halibut.The service is fast and the place is clean and always busy,which I think is a good sigh

Its so good the Cod, jumbo haddock and halibut they all.come with chips. i ask the server for my fries well done. when ordering out i ask for their tadar sauce on the side. Not the packages. But that my opion each to there own. Very friendly service just ask for them to make it perfect to your likling for your experience each time. Its a always hit the spot meal so good. till next time. Inside is really nicely decorated. It’s very modern, which you would not expect for a fish and chips shop. Not at all like what it seems from the outside. My new fav restaurant...

Ordered 3 haddock and chips within 5 minutes of closing and it did not disappoint! Everything was prepared piping hot and fresh, and tasted very light. Fish was crispy and the batter was not too thick or oily, fries were great, and the cherry on top was the house made tartar sauce, unlike any I have ever had. Delicious food, nice staff, and great customer service. We will definitely be returning!

We got the combos because we were so hungry and we were not disappointed. The portions are huge and EVERYTIME we come we can never finish. The sticky toffee pudding cake is to die for. We came during a slow time at around 3 and everything still came out promptly and hot. The place is quite clean and very open as they have windows on 2 walls of the room making it really bright during the day. Wonderful spot as well as it's other location on the other side of town is great too!

Very greasy not sure the halibut is halibut they run out of fries yet sometimes they taste rotten. Not washed or blanched proper or left out too long somethings off. Over priced. Edit. After experimenting with accusing them of passing off haddock as halibut or not. I only got halibut when I made them aware I knew and could tell the difference. When co fronted they said white fish is white fish and they cant be bothered when busy Edit. They replied saying we've used them for years(maybe tried them 6 times)until we were banned, but I've never been banned. And when I accused them I was told white fish is all the same and they can't be bothered when busy. I was not banned nor do I have a girlfriend. The Fish Hut in Kitchener is well worth the drive!! Downtown Guelph bars have better fish. Uncle Harry's in Erin amazing also. Danny's fish and chips Barrie incredible! Fish Hut tops them all. Only thing worse than Golden is frozen from the grocery store! Nice try on the reply Golden Fish and Chips. Good story that never happened!

Fish was dunked in oil, literally felt bloated all night after having it. The only reason I gave three stars is for the chips and tartar sauce. The chips were amazing and authentic and homemade tartar sauce was something that I have never had before. I want to go back but I can't take that Fish dunked in oil.

The food is amazing...providing they are actually open when you try to go. We have now gone twice when they are supposed to be open, only for the place to be locked up...we can see someone in the kitchen but they won't answer the phone or even post a sign as to why they aren't open.

Best fish and chips Ive ever had! They just added really good fish tacos and fish sliders to their menu! Really great selection of fish, with fair prices. The inside is decorated very nicely and has a relaxing atmosphere. My server was very friendly, quick and lovely to talk to. Will definitely be my new fish and chips spot!

Ordered the halibut fish and chips today with a side order of onion rings. $46.34 was my total. My fish was like eating a piece of cardboard my rings and fries were cold. Not one of the staff were wearing masks.when l called in to let them know her reply was oh well what would you like me to do. I asked for the manager and she said if you can give me your number l can get him to call you whenever he comes in we dont see him much. So my reply is l will never be back and l will let people know not to go there.phined in tonight spoke with the girl and now they refuse to answer phone for the last 45 mins.

My family came to town to have a celebration birthday dinner for my father who passed away this year. The staff did a great job arranging the restaurant in advance so that we could all sit in one area and enjoy each others company. The service was fast and everyone was impressed with the quality of the food and friendliness of the servers. Thank you so much for your hard work in making everything perfect. Just started at the university and was craving fish tacos. They no longer have all you can eat, but you get a huge meal anyway with three fish tacos and a side. The fish tacos were awesome! They have a great selection of beer, with a few local breweries, like Wellington SPA and Sleemen

My British Aunt was down visiting, so we brought her here for some fish and chips. She was pleasantly surprised and said it was even better than the fish and chips back home! Their fish is lightly battered, crispy and wasn't even slightly greasy. The fries were delicious and their coleslaw turned me into a coleslaw lover! The atmosphere is great, very clean and modern, nice art on the wall and quiet relaxing music was played. The server was incredible, she was very friendly and helpful. She was also very prompt and made great suggestions when we couldn't decide what to get! Over all it was a great experience, and we will definitely be coming back!

Best fish and chips I have had in a long time! I got takeout and it held up nicely on the way home. The fish was light and not too heavily battered or greasy, and the fries are to die for! The portion sizes are great but you won't catch me sharing my fries! The homemade Coleslaw and the tartar sauce put the dish over the edge! Will be back again soon!

Golden Fish and Chips is a fabulous place to eat in. Our son has an allergy that makes it difficult to eat at a lot of restaurants but not only does Golden make special accommodations to keep him safe, they remember him every time he comes in.
