We were travelling and after seeing the reviews we stopped here for Portuguese chicken combo take out. For the price of 30$ and even after tipping the waiter we haven't received any ketchup for our fries.. the accompanying sauce for the chicken and fish were in very small containers - not even sufficient for a quarter chicken, no cutleries !!!! 3 hard buns as Portegeuse bread ??? Salty hard chicken, soggy fries and finger sized cod !!!! No value, could have picked up some fast food. Improve in your client service and not making profit by saving a few pennies...

Went here for a birthday reception with 11 other folks and the dining hall has an appropriate amount of tables for the general size. We took the meat platter alongside some of the house wine and everything was fantastic. Great staff and great food, worth a try if you like salty portugese food!

I cleaned up my diet a few years ago. The health benefits make it easy for me to stick with it. Unfortunately, it does make dinning out a bit difficult. So, it is always a great pleasure when we succeed in finding a restaurant with several healthy choices on the menu. For our first visit, we selected the traditional Cataplana de Marisco (Seafood Cataplana) for 2, served in a clam steamer. Generous and excellent. All served and explained by the lovely Alexandra. My husband and I enjoyed our meal with a nice bottle of Bacalhoa Catarina White. I even tried the dessert, something I never do. Well worth the extra calories. We will visit this restaurant again.

I organized my father's 70th Birthday Party at Portugalos for his love of fish and seafood. The owner Anselmo did not disappoint. Dish after dish was on point. It was like a seafood buffet on the table. Lobster, Shrimp, squid, giant octopus, scallops, mussels, clams, crab legs, cod or should I say bacalaos and more. Anselmo was worried that we weren't going to finish the food, but that didn't scare us. We finished everything with no regrets. I think we made him proud. The hospitality was excellent and look forward to returning. My dad had a great time. Two thumbs up!!!

We went there for lunch with family. The food we ordered was good and the service was ok. Though, we didn't appreciate that much the fact that one of the waiter played with words to make us spend more and more. For example, he asked to the youngest among us if he wanted more water (without specifying if it was about the regular one) and added another bottle of sparkling water. As much as he asked us if we wanted coffees (espressos) and then charged them in the check, saying that the coffee included in the menu wasn't an espresso one. Too bad because except that, everything was cool. But we wouldn't come back for these reasons.

I searched for Portuguese restaurant Gatineau and got this for my first option with a high rating. And with a good picture of grilled fish, we went. About the food: * Fish Soup: tasted okay. But... more of a vegetable soup with a hint of fish stock and a small shrimp cut into 3 pieces. * Bread: A few buns and leftover pieces, which was all dry or stale. * Sardines: tasted good, one well cooked, the another a bit bloody. Advice: if you haven't had it before, it's a hassle to eat because of the fishbones. Go for a fillet. * Side salad some beans with a lemon dressing. * Clams: small size, good portion, ok. No proper bread to finish up the juices. * Steak: not a steak, a medium sized piece of meat, definitely not what you would visualize or imagine for a steak. * Menu: not many interesting options. Poorly written and doesn't describe anything in detail to give you a picture of what you will order. * Service and restaurant hygiene: 5* * Value: $50 for two people for the portions and quality... not worth it. Overall... disappointed. You don't feel the Portuguese factor or specialty. We would try something new, authentic, rustic...

We were part of a tour group from South Africa. We were made up of 6 Indians and 4 black south Africans. We were the first and were attended to very hesitantly. I was told to go to this restaurant by a local grocery store owner in Ottawa — Mario’s Food Centre. He wasn’t wrong, the restaurant is very cozy and welcoming. The server was very friendly and helpful. They speak French, English and Portuguese. There’s three sections to this establishment. A patio section, a bar section and the restaurant. Btw, all my photos are from inside the restaurant part. I only gave it a 4/5 because all of our plates were a bit too salty for our taste. They have a full menu and a special fixed price menu. I went with the fixed price menu and there’s a lot of choices to order from. If you’re ever in Ottawa, it’s worth crossing the bridge into Gatineau to try this place. I mentioned to my wife that we should come here at least once more before we go back home and she suggested maybe two more times. I like this restaurant and would recommend it to everyone. Hope you found this review helpful. PS. We didn’t start with dessert don’t know why google is placing the pictures this way. Maybe they’ve been to Portugalos and they too enjoyed the great desserts

I rarely post reviews but feel like i have to do my share this time. I do not agree with a number of the reviews that give 2 stars or so to this place. I have been there twice now and each time, the experience has been thoroughly amazing. They serve authentic portuguese cuisine and I dare anyone to find better cost/value when it comes to their grilled fish and/or their seafood dishes. I didn't find it overly salty myself, but to anyone complaining this was too salty: Portuguese cuisine is somewhat salty to begin with.

Where do I start? We were a party of four at Portugalos on a Saturday night. We ordered 1/2 litre of sangria and got a stained glass with red grime on the inside. They quickly gave us a new cup without hesitation which was appreciated. After waiting about 20 minutes to order our food, we ordered some appetizers and entrees. The appetizers came about 20 minutes later. Things were going fine until we finished the apps. Little did we know, we had to wait another hour until we got the entrees. To make it worse, the centre of my dish was cold! The waitress apologized and took it back into the kitchen. The man we believed was the manager came back with the dishes and 5 minutes later returned and rudely asked is it good enough now? When our bill came there were two mistakes on it which made our bill $20 higher than it should have been. We pointed those out, and he quickly went back to change the bill, but when he returned, only one of the mistakes had been corrected - obviously because he was only half-listening to us. We pointed out the second mistake and he went back to fix it, after explaining to us that it was because we had confused him by the way we had ordered. Aside from the absurdly slow service, most of our issues started and ended with our server, who might also have been the manager. Several of the other people who came by our table to drop off items seemed quite nice and capable, but the attitude from our main point of contact coupled with the speed of things really put a damper on the evening.

I ordered a half chicken for take-out and they handed it to me in 10 seconds! I should have looked inside before leaving and returned it, it was so light and tiny, the wing was just a nub. For $9 it was a complete a rip-off because it was so dry and burnt, you could choke on it - obviously sitting around for quite some time. The meat wasn't even marinated or seasoned, they just threw the smallest chickens they can get by with on a char grill and call it Portuguese chicken! Absolutely NO flavour except for the bitter char. You'd be much better off getting a REAL Portuguese-marinated 3lb WHOLE flattened chicken at the IGA for about $11 or a juicy WHOLE roasted deliciously-marinated chicken from Costco for $7.99!
