highly overpriced and poor quality. DO NOT shop here. You will pay an arm and a leg for seafood that you can get cheaper and fresher elsewhere. Walk down the road to FarmBoy to get it cheaper (especially when on sale). Quality of the cuts are poor. I even experienced worms in my salmon and had to throw it away. AVOID!

We bought 2 bags of battered squid (Tasted Good).The cashier convinced us to buy a bag of frozen shrimp from Argentina for 30$. We thawed some after 2 weeks in the freezer and it litteraly smelled like rotten fish. Threw them out in case we get food poisoning and will never go back.

The best people and best fish. Me and my boyfriend have been going here for years now. The staff are so friendly, and knowledgeable. Above all else they are honest about their products and care about their customers. As long as im in ottawa these guys will have my business. Keep in mind this is the lapointe fish market, not the restraurant. I cant help but notice so many reviews in this forum that are directed to the restaurant and dont reflect the prime service of the fish retail store.

This is without a doubt the best fish shop in Ottawa. There's always really fresh seafood at fair prices. I've never had any quality concerns with the seafood and the staff are all really great.

You want quality good size portions. I would highly recommend this business to anyone. The fish is always fresh not farmed doesn't leave after taste in your mouth when you eat it nor does it have that fishy farmed smell to it. Employees employed at this establishment are polite, courteous. Try it out you wont be disappointed

My wife and I were looking forward to a great seafood dinner so we ordered many dishes. The calamari were bland. The moules were full of sand and the white wine and garlic sauce was watery and missing the "creme fresh", a was almost butter-less. I had the Pescatore. The seafood and the pasta was precooked and just stirred together with a bit of sauce for few seconds. So it was served cold. The lone scallop was actually still chilled inside when I bit into it. The smelts were smelly and definitely not fresh. The escargot were disappointing. We paid the bill and left unhappy and unfulfilled. We had to go back to the hotel and eat there. :(

Our waitress was exceptionally forgetful. She forgot to bring the drinks until she offered to refill our waters with the entrees, she also took a long time to bring the ketchup and my dinner was nearly finished. Finally our cod was very curled and had a more fishy taste than we expected my Mother could not finish hers. When the bill arrived we saw that I listed 3 haddock and chips instead of cod. When we asked her about it the waitress told us that she had just punched that in because it was the same price and haddock in fact is the much milder fish which our taste buds and a quick Google search would disagree with. We ate our meals so we did not expect a refund but it felt as though we were being lied to.

I just moved to the Sandy hill area and have been exploring the Byward market from the perspective of a true food market. Byward seems to struggle as a food market vs. Tourist market and I get it. As a new resident to the area I am happy that Lapointe is a solid fish market with a diverse selection, whole fish, a variety of oysters and lots of organic farm raised options! I will continue to visit this place!

In the early afternoon of August 8, my wife and I ordered fish & chips (cod & haddock) ; and when I was billed for halibut ($9 dollars extra) I was told that I ordered halibut. I accepted this as a simple mistake; but upon reflection, I realized that the mistake could not rest upon the utterance of a single word, as the halibut was listed as "market price" in the menu. It is the server's responsibility to inform the customer of the price of any such item; and no mention was made of the market price. As this is the second time this has happened at this restaurant, I cannot accept it as a simple mistake.
