Busy and crowded. Food wasnt worth the price!

This place is a gem! Great friendly service and pretty good food. We went for the traditional "English fare" with Bangers & Mash and Shepherd's pie, but the real star was the Apple Crumble. It was delicious and had an amazing homemade …

Exactly what you’d want out of an English pub. Wear stretchy pants, and definitely get the wings and Yorkies!

Mel C

Everything was delicious! Brie, potato skins, liver and onions all great choices.

Wasn't sure what to expect from this restaurant, but we were very impressed! The fish & chips had great quality fish and they were perfectly battered (not too much and not too oily). Great selection of beers and friendly service. My only concern is related to false advertising. Fish and chips cannot be advertised as "2 for the price of 1" if you have to pay more to get 2 for 1... this logically does not make sense, so if this was changed it would be nice. However, I Definitely would return :)

Updated rating. August 2017. Removal of 3 stars from July 2015 For a pub, "English" pub for that matter. Fish and Chips should be a staple. But when whoever is on the fryer can't cook a French fry, when given two opportunities to do so you have an issue. Unblanched freshly cut fries. Hard and raw in the middle on both occasions. Apparent from the dirty fryer oil in the second batch since they came out dark brown despite still being under cooked. Sadly this seems to be an issue with the entire town. It's gone hugely down hill since I grew up here. Further So, the owner of the establishment was at the bar while this was happening and seemed to care less about the issue. Strong recommend avoiding. As I would any place with a help wanted sign in the window in the height of tourist season in a tourist town.

The owner was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. Our waitress was very nice, also professional at her job. The food was amazing English Fare, so delicious. We sat on the patio and it was a very quaint atmosphere. There was a wide selection of craft beers with a taste for everyone. Very satisfied and definately will return.

The atmosphere is very genuine. But the food is off the charts good. If you like liver and onions they come highly recommended by me ! And the burgers and fish and chips were outstanding. Almost everything is made in house. It was like being in an English Pub overseas !! Give them a try. You wont be disappointed.

My Girlfriend and I were just there on the day of the Gananoque Santa Claus Parade. We stopped in for lunch and it really felt like an old English Pub. They had it a decorated for Christmas and it felt very festive. The staff was so friendly and the food was excellent too. We went back later in the afternoon for a snack and a drink before the Parade started. The owner was outside giving out free hot chocolate and taking donations for the local Food Bank. It was nice to see a local business giving back to the community. I'm sure other Gananoque businesses give back too but we were lucky enough to be at The Old English Pub at that moment in time. Can't wait for my next visit to Gananoque.

The BEST fish & chips hands down. Crispy generous and delicious! Wonderful service, friendly staff, cheerful and comfortable atmosphere. No where better to enjoy the patio for a beverage and meal with friends or family. Cheers!!

Horrible customer service!!! I Strongly advise to find another wonderful restaurant in the area that is much more worthy of your business. After reserving our table 2 week prior and a call from the restaurant confirmation, there was a problem with a reservation. The waitress was able to finally accommodate our group with 3 separate tables. Once we were seated and didn’t even get a get a chance to remove our masks, the owner of the restaurant rudely and aggressively came to our table and told us to “get out “ from the premises because two people in our group were not wearing masks while walking towards our table. We tried to explain to the gentleman than the two people are not able to wear masks due to asthma and breathing problems, he wouldn’t even hear it. We advised the gentleman that we are all fully vaccinated, he wouldn’t listen to reason. He repeatedly said that he is the owner and he can do what he wants, as well as saying that he is the busiest restaurant here and doesn’t need our business. The owner himself removed his mask, and after pointing it out to him, he put it on improperly over his chin and part of mouth. The owner completely refused to listed to any rationale or any explanations and threw the entire group out onto the street in the rain.

To begin, this restaurant is extremely busy so be prepared to reserve or wait. If you plan ahead, be prepared for a good meal. Our group ordered a bunch of English classics ranging from fish & chips, shepherd’s pie, and banger’s and mash and were not disappointed. The staff knows what they’re doing. They may not be as friendly as some other waiters/waitresses but understand the amount of work they have to do since there always so many customers. Overall, an enjoyable eating experience in a cute town.

Food was good. Service was fast and outstanding despite being very busy.

Tasty food and very friendly service. Stop here if you're in Gan and you love classic British pub fare

Carolyn Pecorella

I only wanted coffee on the patio and the waitress responded promptly. Good coffee. Good service.

Great atmosphere, feels like a real pub with booths, nice patio and very good food. The food was a step above pub fare and at pub food prices. This is a refreshing stop on the scenic route.

Avoid. We always try to go out after the tourists have gone and left for the season. When we arrived we were the first of 3 couples waiting. They were busy, but had a lot of open tables. When greeted, we were informed they had larger tables available but none for parties of two. She went to discuss with her manager, pointing outside at the couples waiting, and came back. The six of us were informed that there was a 30minute wait for parties of two. We all left. They always say support local, but turning down six people to wait for a party of six that could or could not walk by on a cold fall evening reminds us all that some businesses are not worth supporting, even if they are local.

I love this place. There is nothing to not like about it. Food is excellent. Staff is excellent. Decor is lovely.

Amazing place, great food and lovely staff. We sat at the Patio and it was a bit chilly, but the staff brought blankets for everyone outside to make it a bit warmer.

This was the 2nd restaurant my husband and 2 kids tried to go to in one day. We got seated and then told no food at the restaurant as kitchen is short staff and they will not have more employees in for 30 minutes atleast. Odd that you would seat a family without telling them this first. So a little disappointing in lack of communication on such an important thing.

Great food always, and super service! Today was a BLT salad heirloom tomatoes large, bacon and house made croutons! Finished with a balsamic vinaigrette and a few fresh greens! Wonderful fusion of fresh local produce and a hint of Tuscany!

We arrived with no reservations and originally were told it could be easily an hour but the hostess ended up seating us a few minutes later outdoors, which was beautifully decorated. The music was extremely loud, and the waitress (Caitlin) was totally understanding and kind enough to turn it down. The lobster roll was delicious and the truffle Mac and cheese was good but I didn’t find it really tasted of truffle. Good comfort food all the same. We had apple pecan crumble and ice cream which hit the spot. The waitress was the sweetest and bent over backwards for us!

Went their at 8:20pm, waited to be seated for a few minutes and then someone finally came to inform us the kitchen was closed. They said it was due to COVID and short staffing. Call ahead if you plan to go. Menu looks amazing and I arrived hungry. May stop in again just to try the food yet.

First off, the waitress Brittany is by far the sweetest and nicest waitress we have had serve us in a while. She was super friendly, and gave off a really nice vibe. We were in town visiting from Toronto. The food was delicious and the outdoor patio is gorgeous. We really enjoyed the service at this restaurant and would definitely recommend this place to friends and family visiting Gananoque. We will also be back ! PS, the fish and chips were the best we had in a while!

Been coming here for over 6 years. Great staff, well rounded beer selection, awesome, homemade menu. Lunch specials are my favorites "13 for $13.00" - quick substantial lunch when passing through town. The steak pies and fish n' chips are amazing. Good soups. Save room for dessert ???? ????.

We had dinner on their dog-friendly patio last night. We got under the awning just in time before the skies opened. The wait staff and owner were all very welcoming to our pup with lots of attention and cookies. The owner taught our son an …

Disappointing and disrespectful We visited the restaurant in August 2021. The first day, they didn’t accept us without a booking. The next day we booked a table in the patio and we were there 5 min before our booking and they said we need to wait for a table to leave (it was very obvious that they just seated 3 tables). We waited for 20 minutes and then had to leave. Their excuse was: "the reservations have shifted..." Very poor management. Maybe their food is good, but we couldn’t manage to reach to ordering stage at all. Very disappointing. I don't suggest this place.

beautiful place to eat quietly and deliciously

The grape soda beer tastes terrible so always avoid that. Friday's are the best time to go as they are quite busy on Saturday's. Food is also good and complements the beer.

Arrived in town at 5. Had no reservations. Tall thin dashing funny owner Welcomed and seated us. Many funnies and stories he told. Warm friendly staff and atmosphere. Food was great. I had yorkshire pudding special. It was fabulous. Would definitely recommend this place.

Celebrating a birthday and was not disappointed. I had the fish and chips with generous portions and totally delicious! The service was amazing. Everyone in our group was pleased. We had sticky toffee cake for dessert and found it to be on the dry side. All in all, great experience. Will definitely go back.

Kevin Steacy

Professional and delicious fish and chips, friendly stuff. I’ll recommend there, relaxing place.

Manager said he'd give us a reservation for 6pm. Got there and no reservation. Got a table and heard 3 more customers with the same issue. Food was good though!

Britney Armstrong

The staff at the pub was excellent. The food unfortunately failed to deliver on flavour and quality. The beef pie was a bowl of gravey with little to no flavour filled with frozen vegetables and actually 3 pieces of beef. No lie. The flakey top normally on this was more like a cracker dropped on top. I can't believe they pass this off as an old english pub. The chicken club was very well executed. The muscles were good but not outstanding. The potato skins were good but again average at best. Luckily the local stout beer was very good. So if your looking for a drink and a chicken club this is the spot. To be fair we didn't sample the whole menu but one out of 4 meals being good is not a good night.

We pedaled south on the Victoria Rail Trail from Ken Reid Conservation Area to Lindsey. The trail appeared to dead end but we should have looked harder and picked it up just down the street.

Lovely spot for lunch. Dined outside on the patio. Great food, sangria was delicious. Best sangria I've ever had!! Sooo good!! Highly reccomend this place. Great service and wonderful ambiance!!

Another outstanding meal from English Pub, Gananoque. The most tender Liver and Onions, HUGE pieceof lightly battered fish and the Roast Beef Yorksire appetizer was a meal the Beef so tender. The staff and owner have been very accommodating and extremely friendly. Highly recommend!!!

Rick St Germain

This pub deserves top marks, Starting with a potato skins then a 10 Ounce steak. The a great piece of cheesecake.

Yvonne Slevin

Don't waste your time. Once we were finally seated (we had a reservation) we placed our order, then waited over 20 minutes for our drinks. My husband was brought the wrong beer, our waitress just said "no it's right" and walked away. After 45 minutes we received our main course.... No appetizers! Waitress wasn't overly concerned that they were forgotten. So... Service was absolutely awful. I will give props to the chef... Burger was really good. That being said, the horrible service and flippant waitress ruined the experience.

Kenneth Drope

Amazing place, great food and atmosphere. Special thanks to our waitress Rossi. Had a wonderful meal.

Bruno Cécyre

Nice place for drinks, the burguers kind of good but not the best ones. The staff were very nice.
