Selection. Freshness. Simple. This is day two of being open and they are catching a stride. The service experience was for takeout, and they were fast. I ordered and came back in 8 minutes and the staff recognized me and brought out my order. It was complete. It was correct. It was exactly what I wanted. The batter is a bit eggy, it it stayed crisp in the tide home because they know how to package. (Besides the lemons- I wouldn’t pack with the fish, but they are generous with the lemons).
In short, I held my breathe as I took my paper bag, carefully stapled shut, back home. I waited to be disappointed by a new restaurant in Fort Mac. Breath easy, my friends. This will almost take your breath away!
The coleslaw is so simple, but perfectly cut and made fresh- you could add some favourites at home like raisins or celery seed, but it isn’t needed. The fish was fresh. I can’t state this enough- if you hang your hat on fish, it must be good. I brought home an entire selection of their battered fried fish and every one of them were great for a different reason. Simple fresh flavour in the Joeys and the Cod, excellent flake in the haddock, and we even splurged for the steaky halibut for $16. It was the way it should be. Not greasy or heavy. Next time I’ll try the fries- I didn’t want to get distracted. But they have a selection of kicked up fries, too. I’ll be back for those soon…
Check them out and place an order. I can’t keep them open myself (I wish!), but if you try it, Joeys will be here to stay.
