The food here is terrible. We ordered 2pc fish and chip and a side of onion ring. They both came out not crispy and still soaked with oil. The fish is fresh but they don't drain the oil properly. The store in Kenmount road makes it much better. The fish is crispy there even after I put vinegar on it. The chips and onion rings are not crispy at all and still soaked with oil I would rather go to Kenmount location and have fish and chips here instead of this location in Topsail

Worst fish & chips I’ve ever had. And I’ve had fish & chips in Alberta! Couldn’t manage to eat even half of it. The fish was way over cooked. The fries had no taste at all. The dressing was as dry and crumbly as sawdust. Should have got the gravy, I guess. Come on guys, you could do so much better!

The food was good but the service was awful. I sat myself at a table after not being shown anywhere. Then it took 15 minutes to be noticed as the servers were dealing with the desk and take out orders. It didn't take long to get the food but I was not given cutlery, so the waitress said she'd go get some. Another 5 minutes and I had to catch her eye to remind her. Then she brought me a fork. I never did receive a knife. Not a classy place, even the people next to me were talking loudly about eye surgery. Awful experience. I'd recommend take out only.

Freshwater Rd location is the best! Staff are always great although the prices are a bit expensive ????. I always get 6 peice chicken tenders ???????? always it's comes to around 21 bucks... I do find it pricey but I really don't seem to mean whole lot of difference it's worth it

Currently there is no table service, however, there are no signs indicating that when you walk into the dinning room. So you have to order at the counter and pickup yourself. The place is a busy place so except a wait. Don't be surprised if you hear kitchen staff and others complaining and bickering.

Iam from out of town ,on my way out of country and wanted a quick meal to hold me over. The young girl that served me was great. Catered to all my needs and was so friendly and sweet. Had the Wing Ting ,takeout with my wife. Delicious. On the orher hand went to the Freshwater road location a week prior and was treated like a Thing. Counter staff was so rude. Felt like a money donator, now get out. Food was sub par, got very sick from the wings. No napkins or condiments . Never go there again.

Ches's still remains a great destination for very good fee and chee, nearly always with fresh cod. I remember going to Ches's as a boy and Ches was actually serving. A one piece cost 75 cents!!! and Ches went out through the Narrows himself every morning and caught the cod himself.

During my trip, my friends & my followers told me that I have to go to Che's to try its famous fish n chips and I must order the dressing. When I first heard it, I was like "What? How does salad dressing works well with fish n chips?". Apparently, when I asked the friendly server, she told me dressing is somewhat like a stuffing with herbs and grains of onions. She recommended me to order fish n chips with dress plus gravy. Although she told me everyone has a different way to eat the fish n chips but she recommends me to pour the dressing on the fries and then pour the gravy on top of it, it was definitely a great suggestion. The server was amazing, super friendly and helpful. I was hoping to try the cod tongues, a delicacy here in Newfoundland, however, it's not in season in winter so it wasn't available. I guess I will have to come another time. The batter of the fish is light but crispy, fish is fresh, when they don't specify the fish, it's mostly a cod fish. I ordered a bottle of Iceberg beer made by Quidi Vidi Brewery and it was LIT! So smooth and so good! I highly recommend you to try Ches's Fish and Chips.

Ordered the Wing Ting, comes with 10 deep fried wings, large fries & gravy. Medium onion rings with seasoning salt & 5 chicken tenders with some sweet and sour sauce. Wings were extremely salty, onion rings were over cooked. The chicken tenders were like scraps (no sweet and sour) and the fries looked like garbage. Now I know why it looks so good when you eat in. They save the garbage for people who take out. By the way, the gravy wasn't bad but the vinegar was perfect.

Well one day we ordered some fish and chips and it was late coming out for us. So we're waiting and we finally got our food. When we started to eat it the food was undercooked and was very disgusting. It tasted like it was thrown into vinegar and then grilled. We were very disappointed from how the service was and it usually isn't that bad. I wouldn't recommend this place on a busy day as the food is undercooked and disgusting.

You can't visit Newfoundland without stopping for a feed of Fish'n Chips from Ches's. It's cod fish nicely battered with a healthy serving of fries. They also have on their menu cod tongues, if you've never tried you need to...they are very tasty and not gross as many people think they are. The other thing Ches's serves is their homemade pies.

When in Newfoundland, we had to stop at the famous Ches's for fish and chips, dressing and gravy. I even won the vaunted red gumball and therefore won a free onion rings certificate for my next visit. Unfortunately, it may be a challenge to collect the rings as the commute from Alberta just might cost a lot more than the onion rings cost. They may be good, but... ????

Good food good portions, everything is deep fried. There are a few things on the menu that are not deep fried. A good taste of newfoundland though. Get the dressing and gravy. Put the dressing on the fries and pour the gravy on it and it actually very good. But you will want to go for a hike or workout after all the calories and fat you just ate not to mention the carbs. Very tasty.

Here's the deal. Your not going to the ritz. But if you are looking for some really good fish & chips than you got to go to this place. You have to order it with dressing, gravy and vinegar. It is really to die for, they just don't make this kind of food back home. Not the healthiest choice, but what the heck when I'm on vacation I love to eat, and this place definitely makes the shortlist. Service has always been good, and the atmosphere is ok, like a traditional Newfoundland restaurant not fancy, but really good food.

I’ve been coming to this particular location for years, I drive past other locations because this one is normally the best but after today I will never give them another cent of my money. I got an order delivered a few nights ago, they messed it up no big deal, they offered a replacement meal at a different time, which i cashed in on today. That was messed up! So I call and am told I have to wait to be sent out my missing food, while my fries get cold cause there is other delivery’s, don’t matter that I already paid for the food they messed up. I even paid the delivery charge a 2nd time! Never again absolutely horrible customer service and common sense from this crew today

This is my family's traditional NL Fish & Chips shop. With family members now working all over the world, we eat there once when we arrive on a visit home and once again when we leave. Consistently delicious! Best kind, b'ys!

Ordering delivery from Ches's Fish and Chips on Freshwater road is always a nice treat. The food is good and warm and they always get your order right. I am yet to eat in but I definitely order from here when I am craving some old fashion fish (or chicken) and chips.

It was a 900 meter walk from where I was staying to Ches's...mostly up hill. The pre-meal exercise was needed though! It was recommended by a friend that I have the fries and dressing with gravy... I added some cod because, well, why not. The meal was great. Good value for money. The staff lovely. Highly recommended.

Great fish and chips, not too oily and heavy as I would expect from an East coast restaurant - I don't bother going to fish and chips restaurants in Ontario for this reason. Very friendly service. Quaint. I would have liked a refreshing kale salad though, but that is my only disappointment. As a Cape Townian I would've loved Mrs. Ball's Chutney!!!

The fries were cooked just right not too much but not too soft either. We had fish bites and fries and fries dressing and gravy. Then we finished with the most delicious homemade lemon meringue pie! I highly recommend Ches's Topsail Road!

Honestly..for some reason I found their fish isn't as great as it was several years ago..to much batter on the fish..and fries were overcooked..I'm sure at some point I will return..just not as often as I used to..
