Stopped by this store recently for the first time. They were having issues with their internet that day but it didn't deter from the pleasant service we received. The woman at the register (I think her name was Autumn) apologised sincerely for any delays and inconvenience, due to this internet issue, beyond their control. She was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. ???? Another young man working there that assisted us( don't have name) was also helpful and pleasant. I wish they had more variety for cats in terms of wet food, but prices were comparable or less than other pet stores we have visited in Victoria. The store also could use better lighting. Would definitely shop here again, based on this visit. Customer service is so important. They are doing well in that respect!????

I was visited the Victoria BC location yesterday afternoon to pick up some wet cat food for my three cats. I saw a sign advertising some tins as buy three get one free. I grabbed a tin and noticed that it was grain friendly so I went to an employee to find out if you had grain free and if it was also on sale. She showed me the grain free and assured me that it was because the sign DID NOT specify the sale was only for grain friendly. I grabbed 16 cans and went to the check out. The price seemed very high so I asked if I got the sale price. The girl at the till said no and asked the other girl who previously helped me if they were on sale and she said they were but then finally looked on the flyer and said no that it was their mistake and it was only grain friendly that was in sale. At that point I informed her that it did not say that anywhere on the sign on the shelf and they needed to honour the sale price on the shelf and pull down the sign and fix it. They refused so I gave her back the cat food and went to Bosleys where the signs were correct and paid $15.00 less for better quality food. The staff needs to be more knowledgeable about what is on sale and more vigilant about ensuring the signage is correct. I also work in retail and if we have a sign up on the shelf that is wrong we honour the price on the sign and then pull the sign to correct it. I had a retirement party I needed to be at and that whole ordeal caused me to be late due to having to go to another store. I will not be shopping at this store again.

bought some neon tetras from this location and they were infected with ick. ended up killing my whole tank and was a very devastating ordeal. am never buying fish or anything from mr pets again.

I appreciate that they give their reptiles an accurate set up and that they give them ample space as apposed to how pet smart treats them. It was a refreshing change. Also good variety of reptile equipment.

I arrived at 10:30 on Saturday Oct. 13 to give my dog a bath at the self-service dog wash at the Tillicum, Victoria location. In the dog bath room there were no clean, dry towels to properly dry the dog after his bath. I asked at the desk if there were any clean dry towels and was told by the cashier that the towels were "in the dryer." When I asked if they had any other clean towels I was told that there was a blow dryer on the machine. My dog has long hair. There is no way to wash, rinse, and completely blow dry a long-haired dog in 12 minutes so I was forced to use dirty, wet towels to attempt to finish drying my dog. When I approached the so-called supervisor after attempting to dry my dog and suggested perhaps they should purchase another 10 towels, she responded that there were 10 towels and she had not been working the day before so they were apparently not put in the laundry. What self-serve dog wash has ONLY 10 towels?! If it was true that the dirty towels were being laundered (according to the first employee I spoke with) then why were ALL TEN of the towels in the "dirty" bin in the dog wash room? Furthermore, there was no apology from either of these useless employees, insincere or otherwise and NO attempt made to compensate for this utterly pathetic customer service by offering, for example, a token for a free dog-wash in the future to make up for the inconvenience. The store was not busy at this time either, so again, no excuse for the kind of flippant, couldn't-care-less treatment I received.

They are just my favorite on the island to buy aquarium fish from. Their fish are super healthy. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. We also get the food for our gecko from them and we got some great advice on how to make our new pet gecko comfortable in his environment. Highly recommending this store.

i had been coming here a lot and handing the guinea pigs and i had permission to hold those lovely guineas in which on my last visit the store manager came up to me and disrespectfully said you cant hold those animals because what if you drop it (calling the male guinea pig it) your not going to pay for it because youre just a little kid than proceeded to talk about how guinea pigs are super scared of people etc. which these guinea pigs were no,t but telling me stuff i already know in a really mocking way. needless to say i understand store policy but she was so rude and talked down to me. that was my issue, and i may not get my guinea from there now because of my experience. though the staff i know and have talked to were lovely i am not impressed with store manager but the majority of my visits were nice this particular one was horrid. and judging on majority 3 stars two taken away because of the experience

Pretty odd place. Some of the lights were off, not sure if that's normal for every day. The staff didn't know about product from the website and were a bit dismissive, not rude but not interested in helping. Don't go here if you need advice, only if you know what you're looking for. Prices are okay I guess but definitely would call this place a pet store of convenience and not one I would seek out.

The store was generally pretty clean, but there was some pretty dim lighting near the back of the store, and the animals seemed to be pretty healthy although I saw a guinea pig without a partner)So I go to check out the hamsters because I was planning to buy one. No employees were in site so we had to go up to the register to talk to the lady in the front. Yada yada, they open up the back of the cage to get the hamster, and the guy tries to pick it up with his hands? The hamster then JUMPS OUT and they close the opening to the other side. Luckily the hamster was okay, but I just find it so ridiculous that they didn't know the basic handling of a hamster! Otherwise, the store staff were nice, and I could tell they cared, even if just a little bit.

This pet store is huge! They definitely are using the space properly with a wide variety of equipment for all sorts of pets such as reptiles, fish, cats, dogs and smaller animals. The stores cleanliness is fantastic compared to the other pet stores in the area. The fish section is where I most visit when I go there, considering I’ve been in the fish hobby for roughly 5 or so years. The tiger Oscar cichlid tank makes me happy since they are in a 90-100g tank and very vibrant in colour. The last pet store I went to had two larger tiger Oscar cichlids in a literal 5g tank dull in colour. This store also has good sized minimal tank requirements based on the different kinds of fish they have in the tanks. The only criticism I have about this store is regarding the betta fish. I think this store could utilize more of its space and attract more consistent and valued customers if it had a wall/section with 5g tanks for each male betta. I understand this may not be cost efficient but more people would come to this store for the better showcased fish and information. Considering that there is a large market for bettas and more people involved in the fish hobby in the area, I believe that it would be beneficial to the stores credibility and profits over all. I’ve honestly never seen any pet store that has bettas in a good environment so if I was to see this change I would absolutely go there purely for my betta supplier and to buy more betta equipment from there.

Best prices for fish tanks, and warranty on tanks. They let you bring fish back if they don't work out for you. Another great thing is rodents have great variety of food, definitely going back for more! Been here over a dozen times.

I mostly go for fish things. The staff are not very knowledgeable overall with fish but maybe that's to be expected with chain type stores. They do however carry the cheapest selection of plants in the area. Nothing fancy but the best place for all the bread and butter ones. Their fish do seem to be sick far too often and I would not recommend buying any there unless you are experienced and know how to mitigate risk.

I enjoy going to Mr. Pets because of the staff and the product. Mr. Pets has a large selection of products for my cats and my dog. The product is priced well and is not too expensive. I especially appreciate the staff and how welcoming they are when I walk in the store, they always greet me and ask if they can help me with anything. While I am shopping I am always able to find a staff person to ask a question however they do not hover over me and push product. They do ask about my pets and what they like and suggest product(s). if I have a concern with anything I have bought the staff listen and we come to a resolution; if the staff person is unsure of how to fix the situation they will ask their manager for advice and support. I have never had an issue with returning product. They have a great team of staff at the Tillicum store in Victoria BC and when i am asked where I go to shop for my pets, I tell them I go to Mr. Pets and they should too if they want quality service and product. Thank you to the staff at Mr. Pets.

We are a family that has an adopted Autistic son who perseverated on ferrets for 2 years and is an expert!! We caved and bought him 2 ferrets from Mr. Pets 18 months ago. Stephanie the manager was extremely helpful at that time. We have spent a to of $$ there since then purchasing food, toys etc etc and about a year ago bought a 3rd ferret which we sadly lost a week ago with health problems he has probably always had.. My son goes to Mr. Pets almost every day with an adult he likes to talk to people about ferrets and it is extremely therapeutic for his Autism. At this time we are all deeply grieving the loss of our Ozzy and we will be purchasing another male ferret to give our lone male a buddy. We have assisted in nip training by handling ferrets and helped to tell the sex of ferrets many times. At no time have we EVER handled the ferrets without permission (we are grandparents and boringly rules people!!) today I handled one of the new ferrets and it bit me twice so hard that i was bleeding....no one offered even a bandaid...I did not complain. When we came back with our son to see the new ferrets they appeared calm and we asked to try again to see if they were just stressed the first time and it was insinuated that we handled the ferrets without a staff member present....extremely insulting as we would NEVER do that. We have decided not to EVER spend our money in Mr Pets again. Its the only personal power we feel we have....at no time did anyone apologize for my getting injured just choosing to add insult to injury...literally. Very sad for our Autistic child to be so disappointed while grieving the loss of his ferret Ozzy. We also NEVER placed blame on Mr Pets for selling us a ferret the that had health problems as that would be unfair Shame on you Mr. Pets and don't try to blame this on any employees this is all on you.

Don’t bother requesting an order however as they will just throw it on their shelf’s and not call the customer who placed order...

If you see their ferrets from Marshall's, no matter how badly you want to take one home, know that they do not know how to properly care for ferrets, mishandle them and due to this, the ferrets become nippy and unfriendly. They give misinformation about ferret care and generally should not be selling this exotic pet until they are better educated. Please go to Pets West if you wish to adopt a ferret as they are very knowledgeable and handle the ferrets alot which makes for happier more adapted critters. I have first hand knowledge of both companies as a patron. Thanks for reading.

If no star was only an option..... My boyfriend picked up a bag of new dog food on the advise of one of the staff. When the food was introduced to our two dogs, (mixed with their previous food) they became picky. Once we tried giving them a bowl of the new stuff, they completely gave up on eating! We returned the bag, as this is something that has always been mentioned ("If your dogs don't like it, just bring it back!") He did and he bought a new bag of the original food. He was told the manager would call about a refund and his two subsequent visits to the store were met with the same response. Today he went in and met with someone he understood to be the manager. She insisted that all the staff know that the manager doesn't call customers, she raised her voice and continued to speak allowing no opportunity for him to respond. He had always had a positive experience here and being treated this way was very frustrating. In the end, the money was refunded but Mr Pets, you lost a customer that had been quite loyal to you and we have two large dogs and we are connected to a larger, dog lover community. It's just about respect and if your sales figures are struggling, perhaps look at the people skills of some of the staff who are the face of Mr Pets.

Great place! I've never experienced a pet store that cares sooo much about the animals. The staff are all very charismatic and compassionate .They seem to truly care about every single animal's well being, whether it's theirs or yours. I have experienced first hand that they put the animals wellbeing first over trying to making a sale and quick buck. It's amazing that they make sure every animal they sell is going to be properly taken care of before they will sell it to you. I have huge respect for this store. Thank you guys for caring so much about the little lives you care for. Recommend this store to anyone who is a animal lover. Good on you guys!

Tillicum Mr Pets won't sell you some animals for dumb reasons. Here is my story. I wanted to get a hedgehog. I did extensive research about hedgehogs before buying it. I search for a cage on web and found the one that is perfectly acceptable for hedgehog pet holders or hedgehog breeders and had a very good reviews. I bought the cage on Amazon for CAD$ 145 and was convinced it was a great ,spacious place for my hedgehog (see pic below). When I went to get my hedgehog, I was so excited and happy to have him, however, the sales person ( with green pony tail) would not sell it to me as she found my cage inappropriate. She was telling me that the hedgehog needs heating (which I new and was aware of) and it would heat up and melt the bottom of my cage and therefore it would hurt the hedgehog. I suggested to have my lamp attached above the cage, but she found it insufficient. My cage is metal on tap and plastic bottom. Even if the heat lamp heats up to required 22-28C, there would be NO WAY to melt anything plastic at the bottom from the position of the lamp 30cm above the bottom part, let alone to hurt the hedgehog. This dumb sales person insisted just on whole metal cage, otherwise she won't sell the hedgehog at all. So I did my research for nothing because the dumb lady would not move an inch form her "ONLY" opinion. If you would like to get a hedgehog, don't bother to shop at Mr.Pets as this store just keeps its animals for themselves. BTW, my wife wanted to get some new fish for her aquarium which was also a good size and equipped with all needed, but they would not sell her what she wanted either. It makes us think : " Is this s real Pet Store or just a ZOO where you can come look at the animals and go home afterwards..." How disappointing !

Mr. Pets : How to create a depressing store. This place is brutal. They have things you need but the store is dirty, dark and disorganized. The staff look like they are screaming "help me" inside. The only pet store in town that stocks my favorite green bedding! Staff is always super nice but "Nathan" (I believe?) was an extra special ray of sunshine today! It really seemed like he was happy in his job, and cared about the small animals.

Except some special pet foods that we cannot find in the store, most of the foods, toys, and accessories we can find there. They have fishes and hamsters too. What most surprised me is their hamsters are way more friendly than other places. I have taken two hamsters home from Mr. Pets and my friends also took one home and all those hamsters are incredibly friendly.

This place was vacant for a while after being a long trail of different pet stores. It has been reincarnated again as a pet store. There were quite a few animals for sale including ferrets, guinea pigs, lizards, and fish. I only saw one cat for adoption, but no doubt they have others at times of the year that are less holiday oriented. There was a dog washing area too. The store was clean and organized. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We did not buy anything but our children had a lot of fun looking at the animals.

Well equipped pet supply store. Their staff seem to have the knowledge and passion to provide good care for the animals in stock until they find homes, and are friendly and helpful with any questions you might have. Aisles are stocked, organized, clean and accessable if you have a stroller or wheelchair. The store overall seems rather dark inside, though, which makes it feel a little unwelcoming. Prices are hit or miss, too; either a really great deal or crazy expensive. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for this. At the end of the day you'll be able to get the supplies you need in a convenient location from friendly staff.

Wow. I read the reviews but decided to take a chance as it's the only place that sells a certain brand of dog treats. Plus I like to give people a chance. I scoured and finally found the treats. Then I decided to try to find crickets and get a few more fish. I couldn't find anyone at all to help me. The uniform is hard to pick out from a crowd. There was a group of three employees at the reptile display who showed no desire to assist the half dozen or so people looking at fishes or trying in vane to get their attention. I am going to go to the hassle of asking another pet store to bring in the treats my dogs like just so I don't have to deal with that again.

Well well well... The only reason we shop here is out of convenience as it's close to home. They have this amazing dog and cat food from Arcanum made with all locap free range ingredients. However, Arcanu just expanded and have moved their manufacturing business to Texas, so there is no longer a guarantee that the ingredients are local, and also the price went up a lot because now they have higher shipping fees to get the food back in Canada. Looking to switch foods now for our fur babies! And, looking for a new pet store.

TAKE BETER CARE OF YOUR BETTAS! Omg don’t shop here, this place is gross and cruel. All of the male bettas are crammed into tiny glasses next to each other, and are so stressed out and sick. EVERY OTHER BOWL HAD A DEAD FISH. DISGUSTING AND DISGRACEFUL!!!! **Edit** After reading some of the comments moments below, I noticed someone else had the same complaint about the sad state of the Bettas. The employees response just further goes to demonstrate the complacency of this establishment, stating simply that male bettas are kept seperately due to aggressive nature etc. EDUCATE YOURSELVES. You are a PET STORE! Yes, male bettas need to be kept separately, but they also need dividers if they are kept in close quarters!!! All those tiny cups are squashed together in plain view of each fish which is likely why they are so ratty, depressed, stressed out and SICK! There was not ONE healthy fish and at least 50% dead. Not to mention they didn’t have bubblers and looked visibly starved! Why else are half of them dead if no one is even checking on them? For anyone interested in owning a Betta: they require a MINIMUM of 3 gallons of space, but 5 is recommended. Males and females can live with other small fish, such as neon tetras, but need a minimum of 5 gallons personal space due to their territorial nature. A temperature of around 80 degrees is recommended and they need to be fed several times a day (only as much as they can eat in a couple minutes). My Betta eats 3-4 times a day and is beautiful, healthy and active. These poor souls are neglected and dying a slow and painful death in this pathetic excuse for a pet store. What a joke! Mr Pet: do yourself and these fish a favour and give them away to homes where they might actually have a chance at survival. Then never carry fish ever again. Disgusting.

My mom and I came to Mr. Pets as two fish we recently purchased had passed. My dad was told we would be refunded with new fish if we kept the body and water samples. However, my mom and I weren’t aware so we asked the lady at the front desk to help us out. She then told us we needed to speak to her manager. We waited as she came back I thibk her name was Stephanie?? She was rude from the very moment we met her. No respect for us at all. She yelled at us consistently for 5 mins about how she supposedly had already told my dad “three time” the proper instructions. She had no respect for the fact that my moms English wasn’t the best and still continued to yell at us. Mr. Pets has lost a customer, and all she had to say was we wouldn’t be able to be refunded, but instead she continued to yell at us. Without a doubt I will continue to tell other people about this story.

Having been disappointed with previous pet stores that have occupied this location I didn't have much hope for this one, especially early on. As they've become more organized though I'm beginning to feel cautiously optimistic! They have a better selection of fish foods and medications than some other stores and some of their prices are significantly lower. Nice plants. Fish appear healthy and the quarantine tanks are on a different circuit from the rest. They even carry Methylene blue!

Would give 5 stars, only reason I wont is because I must agree with the comments about the lack of staff on the floor helping a customer find what they need. Took me about 15 mins of being in the store browsing around before someone came up to me. But after that, the girl I dealt with was very friendly and helpful finding me what I was needing. Also only 4 stars because once I got home, one of the lights I had purchased was dead straight out of the box, so better handling of fragile products is needed. Overall, I will most definately return.

Purchased a "handmade" cat tree from pheonix feline furniture at one of your buildings; it had marijuana under the carpet, as well as the carpet itself was barely held on by a few flimsy staples which my cat actually managed the pull out (only a few left on the tree i had to gorilla glue most of it back on) low grade for its ridiculous price. Staff are distant and uninterested, there aren't many animals to look at, and there is often a lot of dried pet urine on the floor. This store has a decent selection of products, but nothing worth coming specifically here for. Pet shops are nice to visit but it may be worth considering that there are nicer options relatively nearby, such as PetSmart, as this store is rather dirty and disorganized and generally lacks the things that can make a pet store magical, such as a welcoming environment and animals to admire.

I only go here to buy cat food because I live very close to the mall, otherwise I would not support this store. The fish section is horrifying. I doubt anyone there is actually a fish keeper, as their Betta fish, for example, are kept in the most cruel conditions (tiny cups of water with no water changes or filtration, I feel like I keep seeing the same fish in them for weeks too and most of them look like they are in very bad shape) and almost all of the "tanks" they sell to accompany these fish are WAY too small as well, they should be at least 5 gallons! Unacceptable. Pet stores should not advocate for animal cruelty.

My girlfriend and I bought a hamster from here on January 1st and it had passed away by January 12th . 11 days just to note. The lady at the cash register told us we cant get this type of bedding and essentially it felt like we werent allowed to leave the store without buying pine shaving bedding. Everywhere else we have talked with has said Pine is unhealthy for the hamsters. My girlfriend tried to call today to speak to a manager around this and all she got was "theres really not much we can do, you can come in but im not sure we can do anything." This is customer service? This is your manager ? Im sorry but this sickens me and i will never ever be shopping at Mr Pets again . Terrible service and clearly unhealthy pets. Not impressed.

I left a negative review on Mr. Pets Facebook page and cannot believe the way they've responded. I was injured in the store when a negligent employee did not clean up a a spill. Nearly 3 months later and I am still in daily pain. No one offered first aid, no one alerted a manager, no one filed an incident report, and the manager was so horribly condescending on the phone that I hope to never have to meet her in person. Right now, my options are surgery, or physio therapy. I cannot afford either. This is effecting my life in a huge way and Mr. Pets owner is trying to brush me off. Still refusing to file the report, and attempting to make light of my painful situation, he publicly joked about it on Facebook (then deleted my entire review). Absolutely will never return to this store and will tell everyone I know who shops for pet supplies where not to go. I have received legal counsel. Over all I found their empathy towards my situation to be just as lacking as their customer service, their prices higher than other stores and the snails I purchased died.

I also agree with others that the state of the bettas ancluding the aquariums at the Tillicum location in Victoria BC were in very poor condition. I would not want to introduce most of those fish into my aquarium knowing how they were being cared for. Any illness they have could affect and sabatoge my own fish aquarium. When it came to the bettas, several were dead and others very sickly looking. They also were in cloudy brownish water filled heavily with feces. When I brought this forward to the front sales clerk (holding a fish bowl with a dead betta in it) she asked if I wanted the fish wrapped up in a bag to purchase... I had to tell her for her to notice the fish was already dead. She showed no concern or care. I ended up contacting the manager over email as well and while I got a prompt reply, she told me the fish bowls and tanks were maintained daily. I can only hope that is true as it looked more like every sales rep was turning a blind eye in that store. However, the manager did say she would have staff check and double check to make sure they were maintained and talk about this as a team. While I want to have faith in her response, it is very clear that the fish water was NOT maintained daily and the fish were NOT being adequately cared for. I think this issue has more to do with ensuring stadd are educated properly and having more respect when it comes to having Standards of Care. This location in particular has had several pet store turnovers. I rarely go to this store as it has looked dirty on the inside and the knowledge of the sale providers in every experience I have had with them weak when in comparison to other pet store providers. I really hope Mr.Pets can wake up from a business perspective around their standards of care as well from an animal rights perspective. Otherwise, I don't forsee them being around in the future with their poor work ethics and reputation when it comes to the care of their pets.

My dog wasn’t the biggest fan of getting her nails done and every groomer told me I had to take her to the vet to get sedated so I tried mr pets as my last resort I had heard through a friend Lisa was great so I called explained my situation and made an appointment with Lisa she told me she would have the store manager there for help. We went in both women were kind,friendly and loved my dog which made her soooo happy !! They were done her nails in 5 mins tops with no issues!!! I also mentioned about her tummy issues and they recommended me to acana pork as that’s what they feed their dogs with tummy issues and we couldn’t be happier !! Definately making this my regular spot and recommending to all my friends !!! Thank you Mr.Pets , Lisa and Stephanie!!!!

They are the only pet store near me that has the dog food that I like. Large selection and low prices. Any time that I go in the staff is kind and quick to ask if I need any help. People complaining just seem to want the most selection with 20 employees running around to help them as soon as needed, and then want to pay the least that is possible. In order to have low prices they have limited staff, it works fine though and I will continue going back.

I went there very excited and happy to be there and I left VERY clearly upset and staff did NOT care. It felt like they were trying to come up with almost any reason to deny my sale (which they did.) I’ve always come here when I was younger and enjoyed it and I was quite shocked with the way I was treated. Definitely don’t recommend, because the staff are rude and they are NOT educated with the proper information. The supervisor didn’t even bother to help or ask why I was upset. NEVER coming here again and giving them my money! Also terrible selection of cat and dog food (don’t be surprised with the 1 star reviews). I still can’t believe how I was treated here, I honestly think this is the worst experience I have ever had trying to purchase something.
