An absolutely wonderful place to shop. A large selection of fresh, previously frozen and frozen seafood. The staff is courteous and helpful with explaining any off their products. They welcome everyone with a smile and are ready to help you.

I've had this place on my radar for months, finally got a chance to order online and pick up! Their seafood congee was A++ and was apparently on special ($8, regular $10). It was packed full of seafood and so comforting! There were a few shells/bones throughout, but it was so delicious and bountiful with ingredients, we didn't mind. Just checked their site and doesn't look like it's offered anymore, which would be shame, would have definitely come back for the congee alone! Also had 3 customized regular poke bowls, no complaints. The fish was so fresh and we enjoyed some of their more unique toppings, like the ginger-y squid salad. Great sauces to compliment the fish! I snagged a couple of their onigiri left from the grab-and-go section, also fair in size with a mildly spicy cooked tuna flavour. Perfect for a snack or lunch/dinner accompaniment. I picked up some frozen soup that I'm excited to try, and can't wait to be back for more poke!

I almost don't want to write a review for this business because it is SO GOOD...but more people are finding out about it (when I go in sometimes there are lined ups) - so here goes. I love seafood. LOVE IT. Love it so much I l drive down to Stevenston and buy fresh of the boat. BUT, I don't have the time to do that so often. However, I do go into "Fresh Ideas Start Here" at least once a week to pick up something fresh. Last week it was fresh, wild pink salmon and it was amazing. They were super busy for Valentine's Day but very prepared. I could not believe the amount of people coming in to pick up live lobsters and crabs. And the prices were WAY BETTER than what you would find going into a box box store - don't even want to imagine the quality of those! The sushi is good, anything salmon is top of the line.

They are really losing me as a customer. The staff are nice enough but they're not really talkative, even when you're the only customer, and their selection seems to be dwindling. I ordered 3/4 of a lb of Halibut and it was $31.00. Kinda makes cooking at home way more expensive than eating out.

Came here for a quick lunch a week or two ago. Great little place with freshly made sushi/sashimi, various other Japanese food items, and a good selection of fresh local seafood. Priced very reasonably, but then again you're pretty far out in Burnaby. If I lived in the area, I'd be here at least a couple times a week - as it stands, I work in the area and will definitely be back to grab another quick lunch.

I was referred to this place by a friend. I was pleasantly surprised by their products. The poke bar is situated at the end of the store. Generous portions. Great menu selection. Delicious and very affordable. Very nice and friendly staff. Truly this place is very underrated.

Best price for fresh sea urchin in lower mainland. Great service. N for the Chinese style cold cooked crab, just have to give them a 1 to 2 day advanced order for that. Instead of going 80km out of my way from surrey to deep cove thru horrible traffic for the alternative

The staff is great though quiet (like another review mentioned). My issue with this place is the quality of their product.. My girlfriend and I tried the onigiri here for fun when picking up some uni pasta sauce and soup, and the rice was rock hard. Probably from being in the fridge all day. NBD... That's what we get for buying grocery market food, right? The uni pasta sauce was absolutely disgusting to us though. There was some uni flavor in there, but the sauce was overall extremely bitter and almost inedible. We also bought some of the clam chowder soup, which was on the thinner and saltier side. But at least this was edible. I'd say 5.5 or 6/10. The uni pasta sauce would get negatives if I could. And now I'm upset that I ended up buying two that day, hoping it would taste phenomenal.

you walk in and it isn't really a pleasant smell...we tried the poke and it was great, large portions, fresh fish my only suggestion is to add garlic mayo into your sauce choices and to work on the rice cooking skills. But, other than that great place to grab poke bowls!

Love F.I.S.H.!!! It's my go-to place for fresh seafood. They are always super friendly and helpful; answering any questions I may have. Their seafood is top notch and pricing is super fair. Keep an eye out for their biannual freezer stock-up sales!! They always have seasonal items too (like spot prawns, local BC uni). Wouldn't consider going elsewhere for seafood and is the only place I trust for fresh seafood!

This was my 2nd experience at Fresh Ideas Start Here. Both times I ordered a poke bowl. I enjoy their poke bowls as they are fresh and you can build it yourself by choosing which ingredients you want! I would have preferred their white rice to be warm though. Warm rice would make the poke bowl better in my opinion :) I will definitely go back and make a different poke bowl :) Love me some poke!

Nice selection of fish, great scallops, oysters, and their assorted fish cakes are always good. Lots of interesting bits in the freezer - DIY chirashi sets, soups, lox trim, sashimi, spot prawns. My go to seafood place and absolutely the only place in the area worth discussing.

I found this place pricey, and the fresh filet wan't filet properly - there was a whole rib worth of bones in it that I had to cut out myself when I got home. They girl who helped me there didn't seem to know which fish was which either.

There are a lot of seafood options for you to select. The most surprising thing for me is they have poke! Tried it and love it. So fresh and large portion. The rice a bit soggy to me but overall is pretty good. Definitely recommend ????????

Was so excited to learn that there's a poke place here in Burnaby, so as soon as I am nearby, I came and gave it a try. I am not sure maybe it's the long weekend or just because it's Sunday, the ahi tuna I ordered isn't that fresh. Other than that, the rice, and the flavours are great. I enjoyed it overall. Just hope next time the fish can be more fresh.

The fish is very good but what is different are the sushi bowls with rice or salad tuna, salmon etc. They are amazing and at a great price. It's something that I haven't seen before at a fish store. If I feel like a healthy meal I pop in and take one away.

friendly enough staff, small store but somehow with a confusing layout. ordered online, followed up with a staff member via email about order details and instructions. went to pick up the order and it wasn’t to specifications. there was no acknowledgement of having made a mistake and i couldn’t stay anyways, since i had groceries in the car

Haven't been here for a while, returned recently for their poke. YUM! got the regular $12, for 2 proteins (tuna and salmon). As we couldn't decide which tuna to get, we got half of the 2 tuna varieties. And we got the crab imitation, octopus salad (YUM), and seaweed salad. Also got the large $8 seafood congee which is PACKED with various seafood, halibut, scallop, octopus, shrimps. All so tender, perfectly cooked, and HUGE chunks! Brilliant dish. Better than chinese congee i have to say!!

BEST FISHMONGER! I may not live in Burnaby but I come out here for consistently good quality seafood. The staff are friendly and helpful. There will always be local choices whether they be fresh or frozen. I've had fresh and frozen and it is both good. Especially the sashimi grade selection and shell fish.
