I reached out to April's Aquarium via Facebook and not only did they respond promptly but kindly guided me through a checklist and suggestions on how to make our betta happy. Then following through the next day by checking in on us. This is what customer service is ! As well as animal care and compassion. If I could give 12 stars I would!

This place is exactly what you want to hang out shopping for your aquarium stuff. Owner is quiet and lets you do your own thing but provides good help and advice if asked. Staffs know their stuff. The plants I bought for my tank were healthy and free of disease and are growing in beautifully. Highly recommend you check it out. Super cool little store. Crowded on everyday, with good reason.

I wish I could give these guys 10 stars. All of their aquatic life is in PHENOMENAL condition and after coming here there is absolutely no way I’m going to a big name pet store ever again. The staff is all extremely friendly, helpful and willing to answer any questions you have. All of the fish I’ve ever gotten from here have done nothing but grow and thrive as soon as they are brought home. If you are thinking about getting fish, April’s is the place to go.

I honestly get world-class customer service from the staff at April's each time I visit! Everyone is SO incredibly helpful here and kind in educating fish hobbyists about fish/aquarium plants, regardless if you're new to the hobby or not! Their customer service is also great via phone/facebook messenger if you have small inquiries, I get super prompt and detailed replies each time. April's has a great variety of fish, plants, and other supplies at fair prices. They've got healthy and quality fish in each tank, and I would also say that they carry some fishes that are harder to find in general. I'm also appreciative of how they are so transparent with their store process (quarantining fish, what days they get what, which fish aren't on sale bc of qt/sick, etc). I can't wait to stock my next fish tank with fish and decor from here at my next visit.

By far the best and most beautiful selection of Bettas. April's select and treat their Bettas really well; each has their own little tank and filter/'scaping. You can see they're happily swimming around and aware of their surroundings. They're not shoved into tiny little jars and left to sulk the rest of the day unlike many of the the other players out there. Great selection of plants, 'scaping supplies. Post-renovation, the original owner herself continues to participate in the acquiring fish for the store. Good to know she's still around.

It is easily one of the best aquarium shop in BC. They have a wide selection of fish and plants available comparing to the other pet store. They also have a good aquascaping materials starting from the substrate to rocks. The staffs are friendly and knowledgeable. The prices are fair. If your nearby pet store doesn’t have a specific plants or aquascaping material that you’re looking for, chances are April’s will have it!

I love shopping here for many reasons. The staff is very helpful and outgoing. Secondly, they always have a healthy stock of fish especially for my nano tanks. I am happy to make the trip down there! I call in advance to ensure they have what I would need since it is out to the way for me to go but, they always answer the phone and let me know of next shipments etc. I just have a hard time getting there after work hours because they close at 6pm and are closed Mondays (my day off sadly). However, I somehow always make it work. Highly recommend

April's is the best aquarium store in the lower mainland. The staff are helpful, accommodating and welcoming. The store has everything you can think of crammed below one roof (and for cheaper than you think)! I will always recommend & shop April's whenever I can. It's worth driving out for. Don't spend 100's at petsmart or a LFS that will overcharge you for low quality plants, fish and supplies. Come here and get a good deal for better quality.

I can say quite easily that this is the best place I've stumbled upon. The staff is amazingly friendly and filled with passion for fish. I can't even describe how beautiful and happy the fish are and the selection of bettas is amazing. They've got plenty of options for your aquascaping projects. I'm not going to buy from anywhere else -- it is very much worth the ride. (And a big thank you from myself and my fish for the free items)

Popped by to support a local shop as April has always been helpful and very knowledgeable. Was surprised to see the store renovated and looking really nice! There was a sign saying they were closed but there were two gentlemen inside. They opened the door and invited us in. Ends up April’s was purchased by Darrin in January, although April still consults. A gentleman by the name of Mike was helping with the renos. He is a fish breeder. Both him and Darrin helped answer a lot of questions we had. They have fully renovated the store. It’s more spacious with lots of tanks. Much brighter and less cluttered. Instead of walking out with an algae eater as we had planned, we walked out with a Panda Garra, Nerite snail and some plants. They are hoping to open shortly so please stop by to check out the new store and help support a local business! Note: their previous phone number is no longer in service. They should have a new number shortly but in the meantime best way to get a hold of them is by Facebook.

I am new to this hobby so I haven't visited very many fish stores. I have only been to April's twice and both times were met with positive energy. Before visiting the store for the first time I had a chance to speak with Darrin over text message and he was very helpful. I had A LOT of questions about setting up my aquarium. You may look at some of the price tag of fish and think they are expensive, but you'd be fooled like I was. The second time I went back and looked at the quality of the fish and realized why, they provide the same care for their fish just as well as they do for their customers. I look forward to creating a long relationship with you store. Great job!

Great service! When first I messaged the Facebook page looking for a betta, Darrin took the time out to send me a bunch of photos, letting me see what they had in stock. When I visited, photos didn't do any of them justice. They had an amazing selection, with varieties I had never seen before. After much deliberating I picked out a halfmoon koi male with bright blue eyes. You should see him now! I now go here for all my fish and supplies. Also, my favourite part was that Darrin checked to ensure I had a good setup before showing me where the bettas were--really responsible, and I wish all pet stores did that.

An awesome little hobby shop with a really knowledgeable and kind owner. Their main focus is on betta fish, so if you are looking for one, this is a great place to go. They have tons of different bettas that are all stunning. Just be ready to fork over some cash -- their bettas go for about 30-90 bucks. I would say it's worth it though. They also have some options other than bettas, such as: goldfish, tetras, shrimp, loaches and more!

Great shop, knowledgeable owner. April is just great. For example, I had purchased 6 Clown Loaches from her shop, they got ich and died a week after introducing them to my tank, I thought maybe it was her fish that caused the infection but upon returning April told me that Clown Loaches are particularly suspect to getting the ich virus. It was probably some of the fish in my tank carrying ich in their gills that gave it to the loaches. The AWESOME part about this whole thing was that she offered me a free ich cure treatment, and three months later when my tank had stabilized I returned and she gave me 6 Rasboras to for FREE!! wow, great LFS owner, I won't go anywhere else. Super knowledgeable friendly people. Helped me find some new plants for my new tank. Hope they survive since I’m terrible with live plants but cannot stand plastic. The only thing here is if you’re looking for cheap, that’s not going to happen. Fishes are expensive. Trios and bettas are usually about 50$ and above. Prior to the new owners I found a betta I wanted and it was 80$. I still love it here. My suggestion is to shop with a budget that works for yourself.

I previously bought my two Oranda goldfish from April. They are absolutely stunning, and have been very hardy. I mentioned I would be travelling back to the island with them later that day, and she specially packaged them, helped with advice, and even gave me some food. Absolutely wonderful service, and I'm planning on picking up one more goldfish to finish off my 75 from her. Definitely recommend if you're into fish.

Amazing experience! Very friendly staff that have a lot of knowledge on fish. It's very easy to tell the fish are very well cared for vs big chain pet stores like petsmart or Petco. The bettas are kept in proper tanks. All the fish looked happy and healthy, even the ones that where being quarantined looked like they're doing well! Amazing collection of fishes. April is such a nice lady and knows exactly what she’s doing. The bettas are all kept in their own filtered tank, not tiny cups from bigger chain stores. Very helpful and friendly. I am setting up my 5.5 gallon tank and I went there to get some live plants. They were well kept and the employees were super helpful when choosing the plants. Will be returning to buy my fish once the tank is cycled. Would recommend to a friend. Prices are slightly steep but the items are well kept and they help you out a lot more that larger chains like pet smart. I would trust this place much more to buy anything rather than petsmart. They take much better care of the items there and they are way more helpful. Great overall shop!

I was looking to upgrade our bedroom with a beautiful cube aquarium for our betta and friends. I was looking for something that had live plants and knew nothing about where to start. I went to pet smart originally and found the products cheaply made. I remembered a quaint aquarium store not far from my house. I had visited in the past and found the previous owner and staff a bit intimidating and unfriendly. Knowing there was new ownership, I thought I would give the joint a second chance. IMMEDIATELY I was greeted by this amazing Scottishman ( who turns out was the owner) he was full of education, ideas and laughter. The atmosphere of the whole shop was bright, clean and fresh. I didn’t feel inferior and the staff was more then happy to help. I was in the shop for about an hour and never once felt I was an inconvience. The products I purchased were very reasonable & high quality. I know I can call the owner direct if I ever am uncertain/ have questions with my setup. I am completely converted and will never go anywhere else. If you get the chance , CHECK THEM OUT. I would give this shop absolutely a 5 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Excellent service and friendly staff. I had some questions about the compatibility of certain plants with goldfish, and they knew a lot about the fish and the products they were selling (unlike PetSmart ????). The store had a relatively clean layout and the product pricing was competitive. I would like to say that the store lacks parking, but people generally don't spend too much time in the store so it's not much of an issue when it's not busy.

I had an excellent experience visiting the new South Vancouver April's Aquarium. I recently got into the hobby with my good friend and we've both been shopping at April's quite a bit because of what they have available compared to other stores in the Lower Mainland specifically for nano tank aqua scaping. Upon arriving at the new store, I was given a tour of the new store as well as the extremely large back room which has the store's holding quarantine tanks. The owner and the staff clearly care a lot about the quality of their fish and do whatever it takes to ensure that they are selling healthy fish to their customers. Overall I was very pleased with the experience and the new store and I will definitely be back.

This place is all about the fish wellbeing with natural elements, plants, snails, shrimps.. no cheap plastic decoration! They don't try to sell you things you don't need. If you like beta, they have some gorgeous ones! I have two babies and I've never seen my fish so happy!

I've been going to April's for years, and they're the best in town. Very knowledgeable staff, always willing to help and answer questions. I recently had the opportunity to check out the fish quarantine system they have in the back of their new location, and it is seriously top shelf. On top of that they have a great selection of rimless tanks, aquascaping tools and supplies. This is no PetSmart! These people do aquariums, and they do it well.

I've been coming to this wonderful place with my partner for about 2 years, and after all the renos and expansions this year and after Darrin and his crew started working here it's become a place I come to at least once a week! The staff are so helpful, and we always have great conversations, there is such a large inventory of plants and aquascaping things you can't find anywhere else, and of course, their bettas. I come in all the time just to look at all the bettas, as they have some of the best designer ones I've ever seen, and pretty much a fresh stock every week. They also have a great collection of females, although they are on the pricier side, they are all in fair size tanks, healthy, and treated well. Their snails, Cory's and bottom feeders are great too, as they are usually overpriced in other pet stores, and they have a good selection of nano fish and smaller fish for people interested in nano tanks, and aquascaping. I can't emphasize how well they will treat you here, and I've gotten a few add on snails, or stray plants, or samples free of charge once in a while, and Darrin will try his best to give you the best deal possible!

Wow!!! Wow wow wow wow! This place deserves 10 stars! The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable it's amazing. They guided us to the right fish for our child's new tank. Gave her a demonstration on how to feed them and even showed us how to clean the tank. This small LOCALLY OWNED store is absolutely worth every penny and really I think they're the same price as some of the big box stores. The difference is the staff here know what they're talking about and they care about their customers. They stand behind their fish and have a 2 week guarantee!! I had an absolutely fantastic experience there today! We bought a beautiful half moon betta and some aquatic plants. I have never seen a better selection of bettas and they were all so well cared for. They all had their own 2+ gallon tanks with independent water supply, heaters, and bubblers--not like the horrific betta cups you see at big box pet stores or common water lines at other aquarium shops. I always worry about bringing home diseases or snails with new plants and fish, and I'm confident that I won't need to worry about that with this shop. Every fish was so stunning, and it was so hard to choose one. The new owner was friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. He even threw in a free plant from one of their tanks and some katappa leaves. I will definitely be returning to this store, and I have several friends that recommend them as well! Wishing this business all the best during these troubling times!

Nice store. I came here on 2 occasions and the staff were very kind and helpful. I've always bought my fish at chain stores, so this was my first experience at a smaller shop. Right off the bat I noticed that the fish are well taken care of and appear to be much more healthy! No bettas in small cups. There is also useful information on their website. As a parent to a 12 year old fish enthusiast April's Aquariums has been a godsend. Not only did they have beautiful "koi galaxy bettas" (I think thta is why they are called) that my daughter was looking for but a kind, knowledgable and supportive staff. Darrin has gone above and beyond for us to give advice and really take the time to try to figure out what was wrong with one of our fish. We have been to several other local fish stores in Vancouver and none come close. We have lost abotu 4 fish from other shops 2 just days after purchasing. But not with our April's fish. We purchased 4 female bettas and 3 otocinclus catfish from April's. While April's is further than some other fish stores - we will not go anywhere else. Thank you Darrin and staff!

I went here this morning to grab a few things for my husband's tank, this will be our new fish buying home from here on out. I came from Kelowna to visit relatives and I made sure to visit April's Aquarium. I was looking to purchase a Betta fish. When I walked into the store I was amazed at her selection of Bettas! I really had difficulty choosing a fish. I let April know that I was going to be traveling back to Kelowna in a couple of days with the fish. I visited April's Aquarium (South Vancouver) last month and was warmly greeted by Darrin (the owner), and he was super helpful in helping me decide on what plants would work best in my setup. Ended up getting an Anubias and Helanthium plant which is great for beginners, and they look spectacular and are thriving! Now just recently, I placed an online order for some Red Cherry Fire Shrimps, Bacopa plant, and a few other accessories, and Darrin dropped them off himself personally to my home. Excellent customer service, and I highly recommend if you want to get into this hobby!

Guy's knowledgeable but really overpriced. However, since I'm not an expert, I encourage you to see for yourself... prices MAY be reasonable and I'm just cheap. But I paid $50 (priced at $60) for a betta fish identical to the ones at Pet Smart for $12.99. In fairness, he was the only one in town with fish at all due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so decide for yourself.

I really enjoyed my visit here even though this is really only for nano aquariums and aqua scapers but the staff were very knowledgeable and helpful even though they didn't stock the type of fish I wanted. Great selection of plecos bettas, and dwarf cichlids

One of the best LFS in the region--has everything you need to get going in the hobby for fishkeepers and aquascapers (hardscape, rimless tanks, flora, fauna, equipment and more). Haven't seen such quality bred betta/guppies in a long time. Darrin is awesome and always happy to answer my questions. Looking forward to using their online store once it's ready.

When I first got serious about aquascaping about 6 years ago, I made it a point to visit every aquatic retailer across the lower mainland from the North Shore to Langley, and everywhere in between with hopes to find one exclusive retailer. When I finally walked through the door of April’s Aquariums I was pleasantly surprised, and immediately relieved that my search was over. April’s is a boutique store with a unique feel, and a top notch selection of (healthy) freshwater fish that are well cared for. April’s Aquariums offers a good selection of plants, and aquascaping products to satisfy everyone’s needs. April, and her staff are very kind, knowledgeable, and continuously exceed customer expectations. Whether you are a beginner looking for a low-tech set up, or advanced, I strongly recommend you give April’s a try. I haven’t wanted to go anywhere since I walked through the door 4 years ago.

Fantastic experience at Aprils again. if you're looking for a local fish store that carries most everything and a lot more than the usual, this is the place to go. Healthy stock, excellent and knowledgeable customer service, and beautiful fish to choose from. PS: tons of different media for your scapes as well. highly recommended.

I have had nothing but the most amazing experience dealing with aprils aquarium and dealing with Darrin the owner. I live out of town and he has gone above and beyond doing FaceTime sending pics and videos helping me find the perfect bettas. Hes been extremely patient as im very indecisive lol the quality of the fish is incredible and the care he and his employees put into taking the best care of the animals in his care really shows when you go to the store. The renovations are great the store is a very special place im happy that I got to visit in person and see it for myself. I highly recommend aprils for all you fish and fish care needs. <3

Not only do they have a wide selection of fish and plants, but the owner and his staff are a team of extremely knowledgeable and helpful people! Well, We phoned there on Sat Mar 14'20 to see if they had the particular kind of fish we were seeking and the lady that answered was short with us , felt like we were putting her out . Minus 2 stars for this. None the less we drove there. We have not been there before but really wanted to see what they were about after our nice experience with Fish Addicts and Roger's in Surrey. We are new to fresh water fish so just getting to know the stores. We were very happy with Our experience at the store. The lady was not there but the new owner and the young man helped us and made the shopping experience fantastic. 3 stars . . I wish I could give 5 but it was just not right how the lady took our phone call. The owner is upgrading the store. I will be going back in a month to check not out . Those 2 rock. I will upgrade my rating if that was just a one off thing. Take care.A

What's a better way to ring in the New Year of 2020 than a RAVE!!!!!!! My lovely friend (ill call Fancy) walked into April's a couple days ago. It was awesome. The energy to meet us inside was uplifting and positive. We had great chats with Darrin and Alex. The space is limited but the quality livestock speaks for its self. I noticed a distressed fish and without hesitation or deflecting tended to the noted issue. A+. Im not a huge livebearer lover. I was having to hold myself back from buying some beauties "just because". But i did pick up some little mexican dwarf crays. (Cause they had some real nice vibrant tough guys & i ???? em!). Fancy too found some cute litte nano fish so they found a great forever home too. The great collaboration of passion in the hobby and quality in live stock. April's is definitely a store you wanna check out. Go in feel the excitement and enthusiasm for the stores future. Big waves are coming happening. Can feel the vibrations in the air and the ripples in the water!!! Also you can get a sneak peak into April's Aquarium @ Flynn'sfishforum on Youtube. Happy 2020!!

Very nice store with a wide selection of tropical fish. I bought some Guppies, and it's literally twice and the price of the PetSmart, that being said it seems like a well maintained store taking best care for the fish with knowledgeable staff

Had my fish delivered to Richmond as it is quite a trek for me. Very happy that they had a delivery option during the outbreak to keep everyone safe. The delivery went very smoothly and the driver wore a mask and kept his distance. Livestock arrived all healthy and are doing great!

Awesome selection of freshwater fish here. April (owner) gets tons of new stuff every month, and for the most part the animals are in great health. If you're a freshwater hobbyist, this should definitely be on your list of placed to visit. Prices are fair, and it's nice to support local business. April is also quite knowledgeable, although she may come off a little abrasive if you're not expecting it.

Only recently visited April's Aquarium for the first and now I completely understand the hype! The new owner Darrin is an absolute gent who is very knowledgeable and gave us a great deal on a complete betta setup. They have a massive selection of unusual and beautiful bettas as well as numerous other fish and plants. Will most definitely be making regular trips over to see the progress of the refurb!

Aprils Aquarium is beyond words. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and help answer any questions you may have (and I had a lot) their selection is extensive and they go over what may or may not be the best options for your tank. I'm recently getting back into the hobby and with a toddler didn't have time to start putting together a tank, they helped me with that and did an amazing job. Really looking forward to picking up our betta we reserved next week once our tank is cycled!

Excellent place if you are looking for some stunning guppies or bettas. However the rest of the fish are available anywhere and prone to some rough handling when being caught. We bought 5 panda Corys and had two of them dead by the next morning. Won't be back. Update jan 30th. Went back and Darrin absolutely made things right. We even picked up another 5 rummy nose tetras who are doing super well. Will definitely be back and can't wait to see where the new renovations go. =)
