This total pet sells hermit crabs and doesn’t take car of them. The ones we bought had broken shells and barely moved when we got them. The store also does not provide growing shells without paint, which kills crabs. Nor do they plan on supplying growing shells.

Althought their variety of pets and supplies, the experience I have every time I walk into Total Pet is always disappointing. The staff don't welcome me, don't ask if I need help when I'm browsing. Staff are noticably young and are not knowledgable about the animals they take care of. I had asked a question about the gender of the mice and the young girl had to google it and clearly didn't know much. She sold me the wrong gender of the mouse. The animals are in very poor sanitary conditions. Would not recomend buying pets from there due to poorly trained staff.

If I had to choose between this pet store and Just4Pets, I would always choose Total Pet. They always have great service and just all around seem to take much better care of their animals. I'm a small animal person, and I noticed they had changed their wire wheels to Silent Spinners which is absolutely amazing, seeing as wire wheels can cause bumblefoot. Also, their setups seem much better compared to Just4Pets. When looking at the tanks Just4Pets keeps their rodents in, its bare and overcrowded with animals. Total Pet has much less animals, but at least they seem to be in better condition. Overall, I would highly recommend this place. I only wish they had Kaytee Bedding, and Higgins Sunburst + Mazuri Rat & Mouse food.

Nelson has no shortage of pet stores, so the ones they do have seem to go out of their way to provide good selection. This was our go to pet store in Nelson because of price, selection and rewards program. Not a fan of the birds in cages upstairs that never get sold bit what do you do? They seem well taken care of at least.

A decent pet shop with fish, fluffy rodents, and birds for sale. Big selection of various foods and accessories for your pet. Everything from heating lamps and aquariums/terrariums, to litter and scratching posts. Raw food, kibble, leashes and treats it's all here. Staff is friendly and they are open late a real bonus when we lived a couple blocks away and forgot to pick up food for the Grizz man. My favorite part of the shop is the resident parrot, well I think it is a parrot......he likes me but bites my teenage daughter when she goes to pet him:)

I would give negative stars if I could! Went here and saw that this Anole was practically dead, all the leopard geckos are also underweight. When I asked the staff they said "we feed our geckos 1-2 times a week" A BABY GECKO NEEDS TO EAT EVERY DAY. I'm absolutely HORRIFIED by the amount of neglect and lack of education I witnessed. The lack of care provided for these animals should be considered abuse! Also when I told the staff that a baby gecko needs to eat more that just twice a week I was met back with aggression and disrespect. Beyond appalling, DO NOT SUPPORT THIS STORE.

I have gotten 4 budgies from here, and I love the fact that the bird cage is open, and my 3 budgies turned out great, but the 4th budgie I purchased had a really long beak and claws and had a raw bottom. I didn't see a cuttlebone in there at all.

My dog and cat only eat food made in Canada. We have them both on the same flavor and all ingredients are from Canada. I love the fact we can bring our pets into the store so they know where their food comes from. One time I had my cat in a long hooded sweater made for a Cabbage Patch doll and someone thought I was carrying a newborn and when my cat peeked out it made a funny commotion... I still laugh thinking about that trip!

I came in with my 6 week old puppy, and was carrying her around while shopping, because she was not fully vaccinated yet (too young). An employee came up and offered to hold her while I shopped. It has been set up well. All products are able to be found easily. There is a full station inside the store at the back that is behind a gate, where you can bring your dog into be washed by you. They provide a wide selection of shampoos, conditioners and also blow dryers and towels. Well done!

Very upset seeing the condition of the animals here. I went in yesterday afternoon, and the employees didn’t offer any help. There was containers of dead fish sitting on the desk. The ferrets cage was filthy and there was caked on poop to the bars of the cage and puddles of urine in the cage that were starting to dry up. There was poop all over the floor and their food was dried up and crusty. The water bowl was terribly dirty. The cage smelt terrible. When I informed the staff (two young girls)- one understood my concern but the other girl was very rude and didn’t care. I emailed head office and have yet to hear back. I won’t be purchasing anything here again.

I walked into the store and went to the cat food section. They didnt have the product I was looking for. As I left the store one of the employees said Hey buddy what are you doing here?" He said this loudly and caused a scene. I turned around and said "what?" He said " You walk in here and walk right out and theres things in your pocket" I then proceeded to empty my pockets infront of him. I had my wallet, car keys and cell phone. The employee seemed quite humored by bullying me in public. I invested alot of money into this place over the course of over a decade. I will never return to this store based on how I was treat that day. This employee overstepped serious boundaries. Very offensive.

We have been going to total pet for years in Kamloops and really like the range of dog food they have. After moving to Kelowna we were so disappointed with this store. The food and supliments are noticeably more expensive at this location. When I asked they said they should have the same prices as they are a corporate store. When I phoned the other store to ask the price they assured me that there's was the cheaper price. This would be like Starbucks charging different prices depending on location and they aren't even far enough away. When I asked they said they wouldn't honor the other price. Will not be returning!

I have had 90% awesome service and 10 % not so great, that being said ; I have been shopping at TotalPet for about 20 years. We adopted a rescued cat from there, bought rats , feed supplies. Ive returned Items with no hassle . We bring our dogs in, and on the few occasions there has been an accident there was no issues or grumpy attendants. I really like the lady and her staff that run the groomer even though I have not had a need to use a groomer, they have been extremely helpful and knowledgeable with important questions, mainly about dogs skin, and a few about small parrots ( conures) . They also have a Animal feed program ( dogs and cats) that I know of buy 10 get one free.

When it takes two female employees to catch a single fish (one watching the other from a far laughing) while 6 people are waiting at the till or around for a simple question and don't do their job shouldn't they be fired? Never seen so many people leave a store so fast, would never go back don't bother order online or go to the paw shop

The staff are quite lovely and eager to assist you - although will also leave you in peace if you are interested in just browsing. They aren't a huge store but manage to have a good variety of foods, treats, toys and other necessities for dogs and cats. They do have some fish and other critters and supplies but I can't speak to these as I only shop for my cat and dog. They have the most painless frequent buyer club in existence which gets you a free bag of food or litter every so often. They also have a great return policy that even includes opened pet food. (ie If your pet won't eat it).

I went in today just to look around and most all of the animals there looked sort of sad. The hermit crab tank has white mold on some of the wooden hides. The little guinea pig looks like it could use a nice clean water bowl. The rodent and cat area at the back of the store could use a major clean up.

The staff are always friendly here, and there is a large selection of pet food and toys for all kinds of pets. My fiance and I got both of our cats from here and we continue to buy their food and litter here through the store's loyalty program. Some of the accessories can be a bit more expensive but the prices are still better than the likes of PetSmart.

Went in to purchase a pleco with my boyfriend, the young female employee proceeded to treat my boyfriend and I with a pretentious attitude. I’m incredibly disappointed that I was refused selection of fish just because she followed a set of recommended charts whereas I’ve been taking care of fish for years and knew what I was getting into. I then purchased a betta to at least go home with something. I suggest employees get re-educated on taking the time to understand the knowledge their customer has since she never bothered to ask and assumed I was inexperienced. I will not be purchasing from this place again.

Always a great shopping experience. Staff is always friendly to me and take time to chat when they aren't busy. They've gotten to know all about the crazy zoo that my household is and are always helpful in suggesting products (food, toys etc). I can always easily find what I need in the store and receive wonderful assistance if I can't. The brand of food I buy can only be purchased at PetValu (Total Pet or Bosleys) so I can't really comment on their pricing as others have on here. They have a wonderful set up for their adoptions. It would be nice if the Bosleys stores followed suit.

I was looking for fish tank accessories so when I approached this Total Pet, about 5:55 pm. I looked at the door where the store hours were posted and it says 9:00. I entered, no greeting from the clerk as they were not around. The female working approached me a moment later and asked me if I needed assistance. I told her I was ok. They did not have much of a selection, mostly items for Bettas. I wondered through the dog section looking for a deal on treats. I was there for a moment or so looking at the formulas when I was about to grab a few items, a male who works there came out from the back of the store to tell me it was past closing time. He looked quite urgent to have me leave instead of selling me the items. I left them . I thought closing was 9:00, not 6:00 as stated upon the door. I was not told upon entering the store, it was near closing. Not good customer service! I haven't had much luck with customer service there in a few years, actually. I will not be spending a dime there or the north shore location ever again. I was unable to pick a zero stars rating, unfortunately.

Nice store with a good selection. When my girlfriend asked if buying a case of cat food gets us a 10% discount, they said yes. When we looked at the receipt it was just 5%. So that could have been a misunderstanding but make sure to check your receipt!

Friendly staff and good product variety but the absolute worst bath in town! They don't supply brushes, every other place in town as brushes, when you're dog is wet that's when the lose the most hair so it's kind of useless to bathe your dog without brushing them. Also their blow dryers are about 50% weaker than any other place in town, I left with a stinky wet dog full of wet dog hair, won't go there again for a dog bath.

I asked for help as we had just purchased a puppy and weren't sure of the brands or age appropriate things to get for a 7 week old Border Collie/Great Pyrenees. The sales was SO helpful and interested in our pup. She had lots of good advice and suggestions. She spent a good half hour showing me the things on my list, but didn't pressure me to get things I didn't need or want. She delighted in my pictures of Gracie and made me promise to bring her in so she could see her. Nice big bright friendly store! Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about all kinds of animals. I was pleased to see the fish tanks full of happy cared for fish in Total Pet...unlike pet smart....I was horrified by how the goldfish were being rotated in circles in the last tank at pet smart, most half dead. Animal cruelty for sure. Total Pet has an amazing large display tropical planted aquarium...its worth crouching to see as it's at kids level! So fun for children to look. Total Pet is by far the better place to give your business for good kind treatment of fish and animals.

This place has some very high end foods to keep your pets healthy. Lots of toys and gadgets and everything that you need for pet care. Staff are kind and very helpful. One drawback is that often there is low stock on the shelves so it can sometimes be a challenge to buy things in bulk if you're looking to do so for a long period of time. The other thing is that they only carry certain brands for certain pets (I.e. Burts Bee's shampoo for dogs but not Burts Bee's shampoo for cats) and when you're only looking for a specific brand because you know that's the one that works for your animal, it makes it difficult to purchase what you went for in the first place. Overall it's a good experience to shop there and the staff do the darndest to help you out ????.

I buy my dog treats and food here. Also check this review from a friend of mine Needed to get a name tag for my pooch so came to this store. Wow! What a well stocked store, and really nice and helpful employees. I saw that they had a "do-it-yourself" pet bathing area and decided to give my dog a bath and all I can say is: their set up makes it so easy! I was done in about 10 minutes and there was no big mess to clean up, and they provide all the things you need. Other do-it-yourself-pet-bathing places charge $20, they charge $10 here and have and even offer a "first time free bath" gift so come here and check it out, you will be glad you did.
