Met up with some out of town friends here, and am impressed with this cafe. I hadn't been before or heard of it. The interior is very well laid out with nicely carved wooden tables and seating. It's a unique looking cafe and I'd return again soon! A great outdoor eating area as well, and the menu has tons of tasty options. Everyone had something different and were happy with their food. Great service too!

A really fantastic cafe and a must stop if you are in town. The workers are super nice and the food is great! Loved the gluten free rice loaf and the chai tea was amazing. Will definitely be coming back.

Popped by to pick up a quick take lunch so we could go to comox bluff. Got there a few minutes before they opened. As soon as the gun went off, we were the second customers in the restaurant. Browsed the menu and put in our order by 12:10-ish. By 12.40pm we were still waiting for our sandwiches and salad. At 12:50 asked to pay and asked if it was going to take any longer. Server asked the kitchen if he could take the order sheet so he could ring in our orders but they were still needing it to make our sandwiches ????????‍♀️ Server was friendly and did apologized but also explained they had an influx of customers although we were the second set of customers in. By the time we got our food and were walking to our car we noticed the customers who were the ones before us (1st set of customers) were leaving so they had time to eat and pay in the same time we had to wait for our sandwiches and walked to our car. Also notched that other customers who arrived after us were eating. So anyways ended up bringing the food to our hotel since it started raining. Brought out our sandwiches which were packed in square cardboard take out boxes and the sandwiches were wrapped in foil. Suppose to get a choice of chips or coleslaw even though we order chips two of us only got a sandwich and nothing else. One got coleslaw and chips and one hot chips as ordered. Chips weren’t super crispy. Only ok. We had ordered the chicken sandwich (wasn’t bad), some lamb sandwiches with cheese (kids indicated it was ok) and a roast beef (hubby indicated good but small). Not sure what the big draw was. Only ok.

My family and I came here to have some late dinner. Atmosphere is lovely, the service is good and the food is to die for. Had a cup of soup as well, it was nicely seasoned and it came with a delicious side of whole wheat sourdough. I wish I lived nearby so I could come here all the time!

This is such a cute place to go for coffee or a meal. It has wood booths - each one unique with macrame decor. Friendly service and room for larger groups. We just had coffee and baking. Nice outdoor patio.

The atmosphere here is unparalleled. Mushroom-like booths crafted out of hand-carved wood, soothing dulcimer/fiddle music and friendly staff serving tasty breakfast and lunch items combine into a unique experience.

One of the best lunch spots in the valley. A flash to the past where the generous homemade meals are rivalled only by the craftsmanship in the restaurants construction. Portions are excellent value and delicious. The service is a bit slower but friendly and in keeping with the Yellow Deli’s style. Arrive before or after the noon lunch hour to minimize line ups.

Great prices & amazing food. I always get the veggie burger which is so fresh & delicious every time! They have great homemade soups as well. Most burgers on the menu are $10! Dinner/ lunch for 2 here usually comes out to $30 depending on drinks/ desserts/ meals. Very affordable & great staff with such an unique feel

We had the best anniversary lunch at The Yellow Deli. The place is so cozy (we had a seat right by the crackling fire). The staff is friendly. And the food was SO delicious: warm bread, delicious root beer in frosty mugs., thick tasty smoked meat sandwiches, and a beautiful salad with yummy dressing. Had the "Deli Rose" sandwich and it was awesome!! The lunch menu is pretty affordable.The interior is really cool with lots of woodwork and private booths, as well as an open fireplace with a nice crackling fire. Will definitely be returning.

You need to stand out in this industry to stay afloat. This unique little location feels warm and inviting. Food was delicious and the service was good. Looks like they're expanding a bit, which is a must because there was a line waiting to get in when I was there and it was a Wednesday afternoon. Definitely will be back if I'm in the area again.

My son and family knew exactly the perfect place to take me for an early birthday celebration...the Common Ground Cafe...loved everything about it...can't wait to return. ....We once again journeyed to Courtney just to have lunch with our family at the Common Ground.....once again we were absolutely delighted by the experience. the food was so delicious, and MADE WITH LOVE, the service again so warm and friendly, our wee ones ate every bite, and couldn't resist sneaking Grandpa's smoothie--it was the BEST. What a beautiful source of Light in this town...our favourite by far ! We shall be back with the family at the next opportunity

what a special place. was running late from the ferry, headed here for a late/very very quick lunch because I had to be somewhere else nearby in 30 min. the food - wow, incredible sandwiches. These folks are the *real* artists. I highly recommend the lamb. Also had an iced tea (not as we traditionally know it, more fruit juice involved but refreshing). the service - lovely, quick (super quick), friendly the place - tonnes of outdoor seating (beautiful), and indoor as well. I highly recommend, and can't wait to go back if I am around in the area again.

A M B I A N C E! How sweet to walk into this room! It's been way too long since I've had to look at EVERYTHING because everything was magical - so tastefully done! We sat beside the fireplace and it crackled and glowed and threw it's warmth on us. I mean ambiance! Okay, so it was Earl Grey and coconut cream pie - but high quality! The kind of quality you don't mind paying a high price for - but NO - the price was reasonable! Our waiter was there as much as we needed him - not annoyingly in your face and not hiding from us. If you know someone who needs to know they are loved -TAKE THEM HERE!!!! What a treat!

Beautiful building, delicious fresh food,and thoughtful staff. Today I visited this Deli randomly with no previous info. My wife and I where impressed with the indoor seating first, soon after was the delicious smells from the kitchen. We where seated outside and by our choice and loved the small but unique menu. All bread and food was made there, and you could taste that it was. So Fresh and delicious! Our server was kind and gave us a brief history of the business when we asked. I very highly recommend this place and I can't wait to go back.

An absolute must experience and eats! I have eaten Reuben Sandwiches across Canada and this is the best I have ever had. In house Rye bread along with everything else incorporated into the delectable choice on the menu. It wasn't too heavy either in grease, yet a ton of flavor just hits your pallette like a freight train! Makes you want to take another bite as if you were starving or completely famished. The portion sizes are just right as well! Interior is almost like you are part of a movie set and too be specific it is actually a historical house from the 1920's period! Like I said an absolute must eat and experience. The employees who serve you are very kind and genuine. Definitely makes you want to come again and again, time after time. Also... PS: the dessert is absolutely delightful! It is so well crafted that the complex soft and full flavoured plating will leave you either curiously racing to figure out how each bite is so well composed in its flavour, or that what ingredients were used to create such a wonderful taste! The big sandwich is a custom one. It's beef and lamb with all veggies and avocado and it's such a monstrosity of delicious satisfaction.

A nice little place that has a peaceful laid back ambiance, and the decor is very log cabin and tribal. The music is peaceful. The menu is pretty simple. We had some breakfast sandwiches and coffee. The food was hot and tasty. Not huge portions for the price but prices overall are very reasonable. Service could maybe be a little more attentive, only complaint really as coffees weren't refilled. Recommended for a quick breakfast or brunch or even meditation session!

Wow. The cranberry nut salad is hands down the best salad I’ve ever had in my life. Chipotle chilled chicken sandwich was nice. Try to save room for the carrot cake. The cream cheese had a wonderful lemony quality to it. The staff was super friendly. The decor inside is beautiful each table has a unique, elaborate look. We just had a wonderful time and meal here we wanted to try everything but unfortunately were only visiting the area briefly. Do yourself a favor and go here.

This was my first time at this location. I go to the one in Nelson every time I visit there and I enjoy it so much so that I was very excited to find one close to home. I must say that they are equally as good. It is such a comfortable place where you are invited to stay as long as you'd like. Everything is hand made in the restaurant and each seating area is very unique and cozy. I had the yogurt parfait and it was decadent. It was beautiful to look at and was filled with apples, blueberries, ???? bananas, and strawberries accompanied by yogurt, honey, and their homemade granola. It was super filling as well. The staff is always kind and friendly. I will be going back any time I'm in the area for sure!

Well this is a kookie place that was totally unexpected.haven't been to common grounds for a while and didn't realize that they had reverted back to the old yellow deli. The inside is really interesting, full of handcrafted reclaimed wood tables that are hand-painted and shellacked and then really interesting jute macrame creations. Create a booth like atmosphere. That combined with the religiosity undertones of the place, stained glass with iconography and laid back,ever so laid back service made this a really interesting place for a early evening tea stop on a cooler summer night. I had a peppermint tea and it came in full on branded mug complete with in-house branded teabag. I know there's an entire back story about these places which involve a lot of really happy people living and farming on communes internationally and so that I guess is where the t comes from. And where your payment for food service goes. a lot of interesting options that should cover pretty much everybody, except people that I have a big food avoidance list like I do.they do offer gluten-free, but the server didn't really know much about it. My friend had an amazing piece of coconut pie.unfortunately I am allergic so I wasn't able to have a sample but I had her describe it and it sounded amazing. Graham cracker base with a coconut custard that had actual chunks of pineapple meat in it as well as a coconut cream topping with roasted coconut flakes on top. Basically all the coconut you can handle. I had peppermint tea. And as you can likely guess, it tasted like peppermint. no complaints really just thought the server was really laid-back. There was only one other table to look after and it took a good 20 minutes for my friend to get a piece of her pie. So he must have forgot or something or you know, doing something in the back. Anyhow I would recommend it as a place that has a beautiful ambience especially if you are fortunate to get out seated on the deck and do try and make it when it is later in the evening and the Sun is going down as there are beautiful trees with the light coming through. Probably good for families as well as single diners

Came in for lunch today with my husband we both ordered the butternut soup with cornbread, yellow submarine sandwich with chips and for desert strawberry cream cheese pie it was absolutely amazing best lunch we've had in a long time, from the friendly environment to great food will definitely be coming back

Everything that has gone together to make up this place is heartfelt - from the handmade décor to the homegrown and cooked-from-scratch food to the teamwork of the cooks and servers. And they offer the surpluses from their farm for sale there as well - best garlic I've ever purchased! The menu is limited but fresh, home-made, satisfying and delicious.

This may have been the most surprising stop of our week-long trip to the island. How are the prices so low? How is the food so good? Why does it look like I fell into the Splash Mountain ride restaurant at Disneyland (there isn't one, but there totally should be and this is what it would look like if it existed)? The interior decor is incredible showcasing unique and skilled craftsmanship. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. The ambiance is warm and inviting and the staff make a point to greet everyone at the door, sincerely asking how their day is going and inviting them inside.

Delicious Sandwiches! Fresh bread made on site. What's more to love. It has a real European charm to it, trees and shade outside. And it's priced really well. Also, they have loaves of sourdough you can buy for Take-Away. Really charming servers, and overall good place to sit and breathe... and eat. Roast Beef sandwich came out warm and gooey!! oh yes!!

Came to Courtenay for a work trip and was looking for a place to eat and work a bit. Came around 10:30am and it was quiet at first but it soon picked up for the lunch crowd and I could see why. The food and the service was excellent. I had the reuben sandwich which was delicious. Tried the mate tea which was different; earthy and rich. Had a carrot cake and coffee as we felt bad that we were occupying a table for such a long time but the staff was pleasant and very accommodating. Street parking is only for 2 hours so gotta watch out for that but its free. Decor was very wood and Earth themed; reminded me a bit of a Hobbit home. Definitely would come back!

The food is wonderful and extremely well priced, the atmosphere is absolutely amazing and it is a beautiful restaurant that looks like in belongs in the past. I'm changing my review from 4 to 5 stars. Some of the staff used to be a bit awkward with customer service, it's really been turned around, everything about this place is now stellar. For my past several visits everything has been perfect. This is hands down our favorite lunch spot. I'd easily be willing to pay double the price that they ask for their extremely low priced menu. If you haven't been here you are really missing an amazing experience.

A magical spot! What a lovely cafè. I was passing though town and by luck found this hidden gem! It truly is a magical place. The food was excellent, and the staff were all very friendly. The craftsmanship is unbelievable. I was there over the weekend and am still thinking about it. You must stop here if you haven't been. You won't regret it.

Wonderful little spot. Working in Courtenay, I enjoy breakfast at the Common Ground every morning. Simple, lovely food. I really, really appreciate a place that offers a handful of delicious breakfast options that don't include pork. It's a refreshing change. When they have it, the butternut cream soup is fantastic. I cannot recommend this place enough.
