Just came in for breakfast as I’ve heard nothing but great things about this breakfast place. I was disappointed at the almost 45min wait time for my breakfast in a not very busy restaurant. Upon receiving my food a hair was on my Benny. The server who I also think may have been the supervisor said “oh no yeah let me remake that for you.” No apologies…My food came back and it seemed as if the egg and holly were rebuilt onto the old dish as the bottom part of my Benny was cold. The server came back to ask how everything was and I told her it was alright and she just walked away. I went to use the restroom and upon coming back noticed she was at our table asking my boyfriend how every was again and apologizing to him about my food. I would have liked the apology as it was my food with hair not his. Once back at the table I went to go for my second Benny to find yet again another hair. My boyfriend went up to who I think may have been a host to let her know. A couple minutes later she came back to our table grabbed my plate and simply said we won’t charge you for this and left. The same girl came back with our bill with only my food removed and that was it. Where did our server go? We were extremely discussed and dissatisfied with the lack customer service and professionalism from our server during experience this morning. I’ve left hungry and feeling like this mistake wasn’t taken seriously at all.

Fantastic service and seriously good food! The lemon dill hollandaise was phenomenal. I loved it so much, I bought one of their t-shirts.. my only negative is that they need to brew tastier coffee - but I will definitely be back here next time I'm in town.

Terrible breakfast and and unbelievable ending. I ordered the eggs benny. The eggs were pretty much raw - lots of runny egg white. This is served with "lemon" sauce if you can imagine. It was disgusting. When I went to pay the owner asked how my food was. I didn't answer. He took my credit card and tossed it over my shoulder where it landed on the floor. Excuse me? Just don't go here. During my visit I found 2 places with very good Eggs Benedict. Michael's on Main was the absolute best I have ever had and Atlas was pretty good but very stingy on the Hollandaise sauce.

Loved this cute spot, was happy they have breakfast at lunchtime. Friendly service, great breakfast. Really good eggs benny options and made with love. The dill hollandaise sauce is yummy but can get regular if preferred. Hot sauce is good. Coffee could be better but what can you do...

I Don't mind a long wait if the experience is worth it, this was not. My menu stuck to the table like a sweaty back to a leather chair. I only got my coffee after asking 3 times. We waiting 45 minutes for our food which was OK at best.

Great selection of breakfast fare. Quick and friendly service; not even a blink from the server when I asked for grilled tomatoes instead of pan fries and toast. Peak morning rush on weekends can mean a bit of a wait (less than thirty seats). Longer for groups over four. Well worth the wait, considering the great food and service. Would have been there five days straight while working in Comox, accept they are closed Monday and Tuesday. By yourself, or with the whole family, this is a great breakfast spot.

I cannot get enough of this place. Only down side of moving to Nanaimo is that I can't frequent here. Great service, great food. I almost what to say I wish they would expand, and at the same time so not, because the place being small really gives you an amazing breakfast experience; if they expanded I feel they would lose that, or at least a part of it. Spent a few days in the Comox - Courtney area on Vancouver Island with my family. We enjoyed the area, nice slow pace and beautiful, what surprised us was how many restaurants served great food. The Hog and Hen served an outstanding breakfast, very upscale in quality with great service. I wasn't sure what to expect as we pulled into the parking lot but were more than pleased with our experience.

I have to be honest, coming from Victoria with its many amazing breakfast joints, I didn’t go in with high expectations but that was a mistake, because the service was great, and the food... probably one of the best eggs benny I have ever had. The sausages were also top notch and clearly sourced locally. The biggest plus? It wasn’t greasy. The potatoes were fresh and delicious and not overly saturated in oil or grease. I think I had the mexi-Benny, ground beef, avocado, so good ✌????????????. Definitely worth the stop.

Last time I tried to go here they were closed so when I saw they were open Sunday morning I was there early. Glad I came as they are far and away the best breakfast I've had in the Comox Valley. Bar none. Their meats are not the usual fare and are the highlight of the meal for me. It is nice to see nice bright yellow yolks instead of the pale, sad ones from most places. Great service and a cozy little spot makes the Hen and Hog the perfect breakfast spot in the area.

IMPRESSIVE!!! for a petite, limited curb appeal, restaurant. Food is consistently excellent & the service outstanding. Atmosphere is warm, friendly, clean, cozy & inviting. Alway's a line-up (even out the door - so staff often serve the waiting customers sample tidbits). It's a definitely a busy, trendy place to eat. But once you've eaten here, you'll understand why. Vegetarian options, good cup of Joe, cute decor. It's a all around exceptional culinary experience. My favourite place for breakfast/brunch. Happiness is... eating at The Hen and Hog.

There was a wait at the door which I was expecting and not a problem. A very long wait for food once I’d ordered- also not a huge problem. I’ve been to the Hen and Hog cafe 3 times now and each time the blonde girl working there has been very rude, short and almost passive aggressive- enough to ruin any enjoyment of having breakfast out. I’ve only ever been polite to her but for some reason everything I ask is an inconvenience. The only time she was friendly was when I was paying the bill and then it was almost a comical personality change. The other girl working there was friendly and polite but I won’t be returning or recommending the place to anyone in the future. The Tidal cafe in Comox has very friendly service, also great food and an online waitlist. I hope you can improve but you’ve lost my family’s business.

We arrived before 8 on a Sunday so we beat the rush. Waitress was friendly and happy. They have interesting variations on eggs Benedict, I went with the Mexican benny and my wife got the Fruit crapes. Both were really good. A little on the expensive side for breakfast but really good quality ingredients and tasted amazing, so worth the price in my opinion. Will definitely go back again to try some of the other benny's.

It's a rare thing to come across a breakfast place that meets all the requirements of being completely amazing! The menu was small which made it easy to select the perfect item, savory or sweet, enough to choose from... All local ingredients. Atmosphere cheery, and service was top notch. My coffee was never empty, and I love that the waitress took the time to listen to the elderly's wishes and made suggestions to suit their needs. (In-law is not an outside of the box eater). Step sons response to this amazing breakfast meal? DEEE-lightful and it really was!!

Recommended by a local, and for good reason. Cozy, kind & delicious are the 3 words I’d use for this breakfast spot, you’ll definitely want to consider buying a jar of their home made hollandaise! Breakfast potatoes were tender and spiced to perfection too - and if you prefer a sweet breakfast, hubby highly recommends the stuffed crepes.

They have a full mouth watering breakfast menu. It was so hard to decide what to get. The food is locally sourced and tastes amazing. The wait was a little long due to their popularity but it was well worth sticking around for! Hopefully one day they'll consider upgrading to a larger building, though the atmosphere and space is still comfortable enough. They now hold the title of being the supplier of the most food I've ever eaten in one sitting. They even doggy bagged the few bites I couldn't finish. I'll be back.

We had a fantastic breakfast here! My husband had the Blackstone Bennie and I had Classic Bacon and Eggs. The bacon was so delicious! I have allergies (dairy/soy) so I didn't have toast but the hashbrowns were yummy. Wishing we found it at the beginning of our trip instead of on the last day

Yikes, the food is pretty bad. From my seat I could see the kitchen… they were microwaving stuff. The potatoes too salty and the eggs completely bland. The coffee was classic diner style: burnt and tasted stale. I don’t know why so many reviews say it’s so delicious here. I mean, they do seem to try, to keep up with the amount of customers they have, but it’s simply not good. In good news, service was fast, and we only waited 20 mins for a table. The server we had was lovely, courteous and polite. Despite that I’d never go back here for breakfast due to the food alone.

The coffee spoon had been used in someone else's coffee, it was dirty. The clean cutlery was placed on a microfiber cloth used for dusting and what appeared to be used for removing cobwebs and my guests eggs benny had a hair in it. My party stopped here on the way through. The place is very small so there can be a lineup for seating but they also have some outdoor space. The food was absolutely what we needed after a few long days of hiking. I had the huevos rancheros with the poutine hash and the others had the breakfast sandwich. It was all fantastic and the service was great.

Googled best breakfast and this came up, so we were sure to hit it up while up from Nanaimo. Basically...wow!! The food is better than the pictures and that's hard to do as the presentation of the food is top notch. The waitress( I forgot to take her name but had Blondie hair, fairly young) was awesome. I can't recommend this place enough as the benedict is unbeatable. Everything is locally sourced, the English muffins from Vassili's were great. We'll stop again before we head home, all this while having a free breakfast buffet at our hotel, which we decline in favour of this new spot. ????

Delicious food. Had to wait for a table (normal for a Sunday I’m sure, no issue here). Our server was very friendly. Nice atmosphere inside. Everything was great until we were rushed out of our table (by someone other than our server). Her literal words “I don’t mean to rush you, but we need your table now”. We were sitting maybe 30-45 min which included ordering, waiting for our meal, and eating. I will probably go again. But obviously I need to be prepared to inhale my food and chug my coffee. Thanks for the great eats.

I was really looking forward to eating at the Hog and Hen . I had tried to about a year before but was time restricted and we couldn't wait for a table and left. This time it was the same. We waited about 15 minutes but I had planned for that . The service was quick and friendly but we were right after a table of 4 then two tables of one and our food ended up taking a long time. The table of 4 and the one table of one that was literally seated under a minute after us had already finished their food a bit before ours arrived. It was just the two of us and I had an Omelette and my Dad had the French Toast Platter with Bacon. The omelette was pretty good but had a different taste to it which I thought was the sausage . It wasnt terrible just not a flavor I enjoyed. I noticed my Dad hadn't eaten any of his Bacon except a little bite and when I asked him he said he didnt like it. I realized then that must have been the flavor I tasted and wasn't a fan of. I was a bit disappointed being excited to finally get to try it.The bacon was locally sourced as well as other items on the menu which appeals to me but unfortunately I didnt like it I ended up eating maybe half of my omlette because they cook the toppings right into the egg and wasn't able to pick the bacon out. The service was good my only thought was that they might have asked how our food was especially seeing the bacon and a big part of my breakfast wasn't eaten . I would try it again possibly if I am in Courtenay and they are open . I would just leave out the bacon ????

My friends raved about the delicious food! I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because there is no real vegan dish. I didn't love my meal but I'm sure it would've been good with the non-vegan ingredients. :) I hope next time I come I will have another option!

Food was for the most part good. However way too much lemon in the dill hollandaise sauce. Signature hash browns are very plain and some slightly under. Outside area was not good don’t sit outside there is a smoking area right beside the outside dinning area and there were people smoking almost the entire time, lest than ten feet away. Servers were nice as usual and for the most part did a great job. However we sat first and they went to a table that sat after us first, I know easy mistake to make. They deliver your food then everyone outside was sitting for what felt like forever and had to go inside to say they would like to pay and leave. They focus more on the inside obviously because that’s where people want to sit. so make sure you sit inside and it will be an amazing experience, outside not at all. If you have more than 4 people don't bother going because you will need to wait longer and split up or sit outside. Trust me you don’t want to sit outside! Normally I would give this place a 5 out of 5. Outside experience 1 out of 5! And thats being generous???? no need to get upset, honest review, room for improving overall outside experience

The restaurant is small and very busy, which is great for them. Our server was friendly and handled our table well considering how busy they were. Two of the four at our table enjoyed their breakfast, which is why i gave it a higher score of four stars. I ordered the benny with spinach. The eggs were cooked perfectly but the english muffin was heavy and undercooked and the potatoes were undercooked too. I had the dill sauce and it was too heavy for my taste. The other person ordered the veggie omelette and was underwhelmed and found the bread too heavy. The other two loved their breakfast of french toast and eggs. This place has great reviews but it just wasn't my kind of breakfast.

They are better then the space they occupy. Great food, fresh, clean and presented beautifully. Coffee In a beautiful hand made pottery mug from Hornby Island. The space isn't the best, they can only hold under 20 people. But that doesn't take away from their amazing staff, that handled turning away customers very well as well as handling these stressful situations with a genuine smile on their face. Best breakfast I've had in the valley.

I don't think it's ok for a breakfast restaurant to take 1 hr 15 mins to deliver food after ordering. We noticed parties of 2 being seated after us and finished breakfast well before our food arrived. They seem to also be accepting takeout orders at a rapid clip which also appear to more important than dine in patrons. I think ownership needs to be more realistic about their kitchen capacity as this was a painful experience. Food is decent but not worth the wait. Definitely not recommended for families.

Excellent breakfast but make sure to get there early as they are not very big and they fill up quickly. I had the classic breakfast, eggs, bacon, hash browns & toast and it was just delicious. My wife had French toast, she thought it was a little dry but still yummy and the fruit bowl was excellent.
