Awesome day out fishing with Chris. Super knowlegable, caught some hard fighting Chinook, great conversation, lots of knowledge on the area, including wildlife on the nearby islands. We were able to visit a sea lion colony after we caught more than enough Salmon early in the morning.

A day with Outsider Charters is a day well spent. I've been on a few fishing trips, but this ranks the best. Excellent knowledgable guide who has time and focus on you and your needs. Comfortable extremely clean boat with excellent fishing equipment. Great knowledge of local area to take you to some of the most beautiful and secluded spots around. We caught large salmon with no one in secluded beautiful spots. And saw dolphins and humpback. Chris is convivial, humorous and a first rate fish guide. Picked Outsider at random off of the web and it was like winning the lottery! Chris was a fantastic captain and host on a clean, well equipped, warm and comfortable boat for our five hour fishing/whale watching trip. The four of us are still talking about it, how Chris explained the fishing, the reeling in, and kept the banter up throughout the short periods of trolling the baits across the bottom. ed up with two chinook which is as much as we needed, every one got to reel something in, even though most of it had to go back, and we had a great day on the water. There were even whales! Highly recommended, and thank you Chris for a great day. looking forward to perhaps a longer trip next time.

Chris is the fishing boat captain...and he is fantastic! Good humoured, accommodating and proficient. His primary focus is on finding the bait shoal and fish to catch. That would seem obvious but sadly some guides have other intentions. So, you will find and catch fish on this charter! The boat is excellent! Wide and stable with a great fishing deck, there is room for a group to move and fight the salmon. The rigging and gear are top notch, you'd expect nothing less from a true enthusiast like Chris. And if so inclined, feel free to toss out a few "Big Lebowski" quotes because the Dude abides. (I did not catch the biggest fish today so I'm not posting those pictures out of spite, here is the fish I caught instead)

My hubby and I did his bucket list salmon fishing trip - it was phenomenal! Fishing was incredible and I knew I would be comfy on board even if the fishing gods weren’t on our side. Outsider Charters has a toilet on the boat, aluminium hard top and heater inside the cab to keep you warm just in case it’s raining at Campbell River. Plus lots of space and ice in the cooler to keep your refreshments chilled. Happy to read and see they had COVID protocols. We caught our limit, enjoyed the scenery and watching the seals and sea lions, Chris was easy to chat with and it was a great way to enjoy Beautiful British Columbia.

I went on a Charter early in the morning of Tuesday August 28th/2018. We met at the dock at daybreak to catch the early tide. We left right on time and were trolling in a few minutes. Chris found some Big Kings right away and was very helpful with fighting the fish on the big rods. Later on in the day we bottom bounced jigs for Wrasse and Ling cod which was another treat.To top off a great day we spotted a pod of Orcas. My boat broke down outside of Campbell River and we ended up mooring up next to Chris’s boat. We met as he was cleaning up after one of his charters as I was admiring his salmon reels as well as his immaculate fishing boat. Chris let me know he would be available for a day out while we were broken down, so we decided to take him up on his offer. Chris is exactly the kind of guide you want, no matter your fishing experience. Ive been fishing for twenty five years, so I know a good guide when I see one. Not only is Chris a nice guy with really nice gear and a nice boat, he knows the waters well and truly knows how to catch fish. Helped our friend pull in her first salmon, a sixteen pounder. My dad and I each caught a twelve and fifteen pounder. This was in the first two hours of our day. Chris was fun to talk to, but he kept to himself as well, so he knows how to balance his tours with talking and fishing and he knows when one knows how to fish, so you can do your thing when the fish is on. Thumbs up all around!! Definitely go out with this guy.

Chris was wonderful, did an amazing job of teaching me exactly what to do when I really had no idea. Teaching boat safety but allowing us to enjoy ourselves along the way. Outsider is a great way to experience Pacific fishing and the wonderland of the Georgia Straight. Chris is a super knowledgeable guide and makes his guests comfortable from the first step on the boat. We caught salmon handily and took some time to see some of the best of Desolation Sound including waterfalls and humpbacks - an awesome experience! The boat feels brand new and is warm and comfortable - a great seat for a day on the ocean.

Chris is knowledgeable, friendly and has one of the nicest and best equipped fishing boats on the west coast. The full cabin was nice to be able to get in out of the elements. We were able to enjoy the view in the back once the weather warmed up. Highly recommend booking a charter and we will definitely use him again.

Chris made us feel comfortable from the beginning, explaining the basics of fishing, step by step. It was clear he was very experienced, enjoyed what he did, and made it fun. Incredible day of fishing on one of the nicest charter boats in Campbell River. We had none stop action all day. My only complaint is my arm was a little sore by the end of the day from reeling in all the fish and my beers kept getting too warm because there was no time to drink them. ...haha. I’ve fished on the inside and outside of Vancouver Island for several years, and the trip this year with Outsider Charters was the best experience yet. The boat was spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room for myself, my wife, and our three young children. Our guide Chris was patient, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to be around. 2 weeks ago, my wife and I went out with Chris on his new fabulous boat for a day of fishing. Nancy was happy to just be out on the water and had no intention of actually fishing. She noticed a rod quivering and asked Chris if that was a fish on the line. He grabbed the rod, set the hook and handed it to her. He then proceeded to talk her through the the experience of catching her first Chinook. It was so impressive how Chris talked her through it that she has yet to stop smiling. Her fish was in the 16 lb range, not bad for a first fish. My Chinook was in the 20+ lb range and was so much fun to bring in, I am still recounting it. I have been out with Chris a number of times in his old boat and always had a great time, returned with fish, and a great experience. The new boat provided us with an even better experience, is comfortable and well setup. Chris is a very knowledgeable skipper and fisher, and is at ease keeping you both entertained and informed. I am looking forward to taking my sons-in-law fishing with Chris for their birthday presents in a couple of weeks. I see yet another successful and enjoyable trip on the Salish Sea.

Wow, what a day! Been trying to catch a salmon since I moved to the northwest over 40 years ago. Chris made it happen, & talked me through bringing it in & on the boat; a 16 lb chinook. There were two other fisherman on the boat and both brought in a chinook as well. Chris's expertise and soft spoken guidance made for a great day of fishing. Will definately use Outsider Charters again.

He's clearly a master fisherman and we limited out with some really great Chinook as he gave us all the responsibility we could take on (as somewhat, but not terribly experienced) but no more. The boat is also more comfortable and suitable for a day on the water than many of the others we saw. We'll definitely be back, I'm confident he's one of the premier guides in the area.

My wife and I fished with Chris Strong today at Campbell River. He has a great NWAC boat, really good reels with wide arbors that let you reel in line quickly on a single action reel and a big selection of lures. He will work an area hard, then move on to try something different, always looking for bait. He knows his stuff. He also likes to teach and inform the customer so you leave having learned something,even for anglers with lots of years experience. His dock is nice,with a handy table for cleaning. Our fish was bled and kept on ice during the trip,so the fish quality should be really nice. We had a couple bonuses today: plenty of humpback whales swimming and feeding in nearby waters and our two spring salmon were white fleshed. Having fished salmon for 23 years in the PNW, white springs are my favourite by far for taste.
