Hot, tasty generous portions. Note: they have gluten-free batter available for the fish & chips; and it’s fried in a separate vat so no x-contact. It was super for me being a celiac. There’s not a lot of tables but plenty of outdoor places of interest to sit down around fishermen’s wharf. Highly recommended. Don’t let the plain looking building or interior put you off. The food is what you’re there for!

Such a cute place with a cozy feel. Beautiful view overlooking the water and marina. The 2 piece meal is definitely worth it as they usually throw in an extra small little nugget. The batter is amazing and they have vinegar for your chips to get the full experience! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for great fish and chips.

Amazing!!!! I went for my birthday and they were so nice and the portions are huge the burger wa s the best I have ever had in my life and honestly they should raise the prices for sure. That’s how good it was I will be going back probably tomorrow or the next day because I’m craving it now. What a great find! The fish and chips are great, and the oysters were delicious. We stopped here on our way back from Port McNeill, and it was late when we got there. The tables have holes cut in them, and we didn't know what these were for until the food arrived wrapped in pyramid-shaped newspaper that fits in the hole! This unique lil place is casual and funky, but it left an impression, we were glad we stopped.

Super busy place I ordered pick up they told me when to come I had to wait another 20 minutes they didn't explain the portion size very well so got way to much it was hot but soggy, greasy and bland. Even the coleslaw was not very tasty its like they forgot the dressing. We ate some because we were starving most unfortunately went in the garbage.

After reading the reviews, I guess I should have ordered cob or halibut. Instead, I ordered prawns and scallops + fries. The portions of seafood were small but tasty. However, the homemade fries needs improvement, the poutine is one of the worst I've ever had, with almost no mozza in it and a blend gravy.

I have only eaten take out from here twice . The first time it was kind of greasy and cold and just mediocre and that is being generous. We didn't bother to complain and I understand that many variables could have caused our lackluster food. We decided to try again awhile ago and it was barely mediocre and after our first experience that didn't provide lemon or tartar sauce we made sure we requested it this time around and again no tartar or lemon . It's too bad because I am sure they can do better based on other reviews that say so but unfortunately for me I got the food that wasn't pleasing not once but twice ????

Ordered a Doubles D's Dog with onion rings substituting fries. They did not give me onion rings food was cold, meat was overcooked, the toppings were sliding out the sides so much so most of those toppings and sauce ended up soaked into the paper and not actually being eaten, as soon as I picked it up the bread fell into pieces. Gross enough I threw it away after a few bites.

Such a hopeless fish and chip shop!! A few months ago I have up on this place after it was never actually open despite the operating hours stating they were open. I even messaged them on Facebook to ask if they were actually open because I was sick of going down there just to find they were not open, they messaged to say yes and I when I arrived 10 mins later there was no one there! Tonight I decided to try again, they apparently close at 7pm but the staff member answered the phone at quarter to 7 and in a whiney tone asked the other worker if they have to take the order because it's almost 7 then came back to me to say they won't take the order. Hopeless. Don't waste your time!

Made a detour, out of our way really, to have the halibut and chips here for the second time in our lives. The first time we were surprised at how delicious this meal was that we thought we'd better try it again to be sure we weren't mistaken. Sure enough, we were not mistaken, it was just as delicious as the first time, right down to the tartar sauce. Deep fried thinly battered halibut, it's a once every 5 year treat. By far the best fish and chips we encountered on Vancouver Island. I was on a mission to rate fish and chips everywhere we went on the island but nothing ever matched up the D ick"s. This is a very popular takeout place in Campbell River. I especially like the environmentally friendly takeout paper the meal is wrapped in, very authentic. Don't miss it if you're there and you just might want to take a detour.

I don’t eat fish so I can’t comment on the fish. My son and wife both said the fish was good though. The chips were good but not great. I had a burger and it was pretty good too. The place does seem popular as there was a pretty steady stream of people in and out. There is very limited seating. Some of the chairs are broken too. It seems to be more of a take out place than an eat in place. The interior could use a bit of a refresh in my opinion but it does seem to fit the area quiet well.

The service was incredibly fast. We had the fish and chips. The batter was thin and crispy, and not too greasy, and the fries were fresh and plentiful. The presentation is fun, with the fish and chips coming in rolled up paper cones that are put in holes in the table. There is more than just fish and chips too. You can have your fish grilled and there is even a veggie burger!

Very greasy fish and chips. Sort of lower quality establishment; it needs a good cleanup especially at the walls edges where the mop can't squeeze in. The food is tasty but after my experience at Dockside that is not far from here, I am concerned of the many times the oil was used for frying. Not every establishment that is posting "TripAdvisor" certificate offers the best product or service. The staff was OK, typical to a fast food place. If you really crave for fish, it is worth to give this place a try, you will have to wait till they cook your meal, which is better than a real fast food that is heating up the food from the frozen state. Dockside Fish and Chips offers better food and better eating experience, it is the way I felt.

Halibut and chips very tasty. I only ordered one piece and, although a bit small, it was very meaty. A little on the greasy side but delicious nonetheless. All portions are served in a paper cone and the tables are fitted with round holes to put the cone in which was quite unique.

TL:DR: incredible fish and chips, huge portions, so much tartar sauce, a little slow. I called to place a dinner order at about 5:30, and they were sold out. Great sign, so the next day we ordered lunch - still no halibut or salmon, but plenty of cod, which is fine with me, but the kids were a bit disappointed (heh heh heh). The pickup experience left a little to be desired, however, as we ended up waiting for the order 30 minutes after the time we were told it would be ready. No biggie, and again - great food, ridiculously generous portions, super, super tasty. We went through our order using several things of tartar sauce, and still had 10 left over. ???? I'd go back, without question, but I'd call back to confirm that my order is ready before showing up.

Very disappointed. Not sure how they achieved the praise from trip advisor as they have claimed. I try to avoid writing poor reviews of independent businesses but this was beyond sad. My girlfriend and I walked in and weren’t even greeted with a hello. The waitress just stood there looking at us until we said hi and ordered our food. It came surprisingly quick which was nice and was served wrapped in paper like I have had before while in the UK; but the fish had zero seasoning, everything was bland and boring and totally depressing. I wish I had just gone to the grocery store and bought an over priced pre made salad instead of paying nearly 40$ for the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Not even worthy of the two stars I’m giving. Avoid if you can, but if not I hope your experience is nicer than mine.

Dick's is some of the best Fish and Chips I've had east of Quebec (Never been to Quebec or the East Coast). The staff are very friendly and more then willing to answer any questions about their menu. Dick's also features a separate frier for those who can not have Gluten, as my daughter has Celiac disease this is nothing short of fantastic. Fish comes out promptly with a perfectly crisp crust, and lovely flaky fish. The deep fried pickles are also to die for. Will always come back.

No question the best fish & chips ive had since I was a young boy growing up in the south. There was a legendary place called Langford fish & chips. Fast forward 45 years i found its equivalent, the main ingredients are, fresh properly prepared fish, fresh coleslaw, real chips, and allot of attention and hard work to maintain the consistency that separates a long term restaurant from a flash in the pan. Thank you for letting me enjoy your food and bringing back memories of my dad and me when we use to go for real fish & chips. You have to try this but be careful its very addictive.

This salmon burger is so tasty. Love the buns, sauce and especially the fresh salmon. Did the baked salmon, not fried so it wouldn’t be too much fried stuff. The portion makes you full for sure. Fries are nicely not too oily. Go down to the bay across the street and eat it... the best lunch ever!!

This was rated one of the top ten restaurants in Campbell River and I must say the ratings were wrong. The service was poor, the man that ran the restaurant was on his tablet at a restaurant table the whole time we were there. When the waitress asked how everything was and we told her our sons meal was not good she didn't respond. As for the food the fish batter was soggy as well as the fries. They had no halibut left which is super strange for a fish and chip place. My son's corn dog was hard and crunchy and not palatable. That evening my stomach was off from the food that I ate for lunch at this restaurant. I would recommend you go elsewhere.

It always strikes me as odd that when you have the actual source of the food next to the restaurant, it isn't cheaper. I mean, gas and beef is cheaper in Alberta because it comes from there. You can buy cheap bread in Saskatchewan. You can buy cheap syrup in Quebec. Fish is expensive in BC and most of it comes from here. So with that said, the prices are a bit high but for whatever reason, it may or may not be the restaurants fault. That aside, the food is really good. Fresh fish is the best fish and the chips are delicious.

Went there about a month ago and we waited in line for about 20-30 minutes. Had someone come and cut in line with their friends and order $100+ worth of food. Not the restaurant's fault but it did add onto the experience. We waited for our food after we ordered for another 20-30 minutes (Though we did have a party of 5). You'd think with these wait times and prices you'd get some sort of service but it's just a grab-and-eat place. I'm not a seafood fan so I had the chicken burger it's was pretty good, nothing over the top, but they give you ridiculous amount of fries. I ate about a quarter of them and the rest of my party ate about 3/4 of theirs if not less. So lots of wasted food. The atmosphere is really nice though, there's a floating dock you can eat on or you can eat inside if there's seating. Nice view of the ocean.

Was rather disappointed in our halibut dinner. We came to see a friend in Campbell River & they had gone 2 days before & had the halibut, which were good sized portions of the halibut. Ours including our friends halibut was super small, hers & mine should have made one piece. Also no coleslaw & they charge $.40 cents for an extra tartar sauce. The French fries were delicious & good sized portions. There is another place in Campbell River that we had gone a few years ago that was really good.

I went to Dick's for the first time today. Really friendly people working there...at the till, and the fellas in the back. They have a huge selection of fish and shellfish, as well as non-fish options. I had the cod & chips and it was really good...I got the fish grilled, not fried. Wonderful, relatively light batter. We had halibut, and it was outstanding. A little skimpy on the tartar sauce, and it comes in wasteful small plastic cups. Fries get soggy under the fish, and they're nothing special, but totally acceptable. Super friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere. Worth a try for sure!

Awesome food! I saw the name on Google Maps first and wrote it off as just another Fish & Chips place, but upon going in found it was a truly unique, friendly, and tasty place. They have all kinds of fried food (cod, halibut, salmon, prawns, etc) and unique cone-shaped plating that fits into circular cutouts in the table. The place looks like it's been around for a while and the staff was really friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there. For anyone going through Campbell River, I highly recommend you check out Dick's before you leave!

We had the halibut and chips. The fish was super fresh and delicate! The batter was light and crispy and didn't overwhelm the fish, which is how fish & chips should be! I'd knock off maybe half a star because the fries needed salt and get soggy underneath the fish. The restaurant itself is pretty old, a little dingy and could really use a patio/outdoor space for eating. Overall the service and food were awesome though. Would definitely visit again the next time we're in Campbell River.

They were out of halibut near end of day when we went, so one of our group missed out. Fish batter is thin, so it got a bit soggy from carrying home via car. Fish could've been better. Loved the chips! Great texture even after steaming in the paper wrapper on route home. We arrived on schedule after calling in & given a pick up time, but had to wait 20+ min as they were running behind with other orders. Front counter staff went back to help the kitchen staff & appeared to contribute getting orders out the door, but seemed the cooking side had challenges getting orders out. Don't go if you're in a hurry.

I ate here years ago and I was very impressed. I like their inventive way of serving the meal in cones of paper. It was a very "coastal town" feel to it. The food was superb and the people working were very friendly. I would highly recommend that one of the meals that you eat while staying in Campbell River be at this location.

This Fish n Chips restaurant is simply amazing! Offerings include Cod and halibut. No Haddock here. Though I am partial to haddock, I ordered the cod and did not feel like I was offered anything less tasty. Succulent, moist, flaking fish in a batter that runs the line between beer batter and the harder kind of batter that can be found from the Costco-offered "highliner" brand frozen fish. I also had the deep fried pickles. The best I've had. They are breaded. The breading does not slide off the pickle! You can multi-dip these babies!

Great fresh fish & chips! The cod, salmon, and halibut are all great! Tastes like they are fresh caught off a boat then cooked up. Lightly battered and cooked in non-hydrogenated vegetable oil. The fries are also fresh chipped and cooked. Nothing too greasy. It's going to be hard to eat fish & chips at other places after eating here. I will return whenever I'm near Campbell River. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating with perfect sized holes in the tables to hold your meal in the paper cone it comes in. It is located down on the docks and can be hard to see from the road. Free parking is abundant in the lot next to the BC Ferries Quadra Island dock. There are two ramps leading down to the docks and the restaurant. Pricing is higher at $15 for 2 piece & chips, but well worth it due to freshness, quality, and taste!

Take-out only because of Covid. The grilled salmon was greasy and cold, small portion, chips floppy and cold, coleslaw had no flavour,. The battered cod was cold and tasteless. Poor quality. Won’t ever stop again or recommend. I left them a tip also. Waste of money!

Was visiting the Island last week for the first time in my life. Came to Campbell River for a 2 day Visit. Had to try the fish and chips from the Best place in town. Highly recommend the Halibut, melt in your mouth. So good!!!

The fish and chips are ok (extremely over rated) but the oysters and chips are fantastic. The best I have ever had. The loss of stars is for the unforgivable sin of serving white vinegar with fish and chips. Malt vinegar and only malt vinegar goes with fish and chips. White vinegar is for cleaning. If you don't understand this as a fish and chip shop you are most likely American and should open a burger stand instead.

Delicious fish and chips. Love the cut outs in the tables when dining in to put your order of fish and chips in. The mushy peas here were probably the best I've tried. And if you're craving a deep fried Mars bar you can get this here too.

The people were very nice. But the tartar sauce was cheap and tasted like mayo basically. The fries were mediocre and the batter was too. Also kind of over cooked salmon. And the cod was falling apart into pieces when I picked it up. To help mabye. The fries could be cooked a little longer, and salted after they come out of the fryer so the salt sticks to them. And the tartar should be upgraded. Oh and add a lemon wedge with each peice of fish would be good too.

I couldn't possibly say enough good things about this incredible place! Dick's was recommended to us by a woman working the front desk at our hotel. We were truly wanting the local experience and what we recieved by far exceeded our expectations. Never have we received such unbelievable customer service. The woman working front of house even went the extra mile and entertained our cranky 3 year old so me and my husband could enjoy our food. We ❤ Dick's and will absolutely be returning !

Very poor quality. Had ordered ahead, picked up yam fries cold and floppy, fish floppy and greasy. Forgot to give us Caesar salad, coleslaw dressing was very bland. Waitress was lovely, very friendly. Will never go back there again - waste of $37.00! Save your money!

Waited 45 minutes for awful grilled cod - unbelievably BAD . Washrooms are filthy . Seating outside limited and patrons that have finished DON’T LEAVE. To give you a chance to eat. They sat there fir over 1/2 an hour . Car traffic the worst. I’ve eaten a lot of fish and seafood in my life and this was the worst and very expensive.

Clean, conveniently located simple place. Annoying loud music from low quality tv set in eating area. Average fish menu, fresh but terribly prepared. Tiny scallops drowned in several layers of fatty breading definitely kills all the freshness and taste of the meat inside and simultaneously avoid proper cooking. Fries soft and fatty either ( oil needs to get hot BEFORE the frozen fries goes in) . Thankfully there is several other places close by within a walking distance where you can get the same menu but properly prepared and actually cheaper.

Great little fish and chips joint. We went in October and they didn't have any halibut, tuna and the chowder wasn't done until that afternoon. But we got the two piece cod and chips with oysters and popcorn shrimp and it was very tasty. Will definitely be back! The service was lovely as well. No table service - but it's such a cute little fish and chips joint that won't make a difference to you.

I had to stand waiting for 30 minutes for an order that should have been ready when I got there. If it is only first come first serve don't take phone in orders!

My husband and I love this down to earth amazing gem located in front of the Fisherman’s Wharf in Campbell River. Absolutely the best fish and chips in Campbell River! Low key atmosphere and great service. The nicest people! The lady who takes order is always friendly. They offer a fast, fresh counter service, cooked fresh while you wait, and it is worth the wait. Fish batter is light and crispy and comes with coleslaw and an ample serving of homemade fries. I am from Belgium and know how to appreciate fries and their fries are exactly how it should be: with a crunchy exterior and light interior:) Prices are very reasonable too.

Fish chips were good as usual but I am sorry that the ambiance is not the same. Moving from the dock to inside cafe across the street. Also for any one handicaped thete is no parking. You have to park across the street at the pier and walk along ways It was even difficult for my husband to try to drop me off and go Park the car.

Went here with my dad for lunch. His fish and chips were pretty spot on. I ordered a "seafood chowder" which consisted of 80% overcooked potatoes turned to glue. Bits of bacon, no sight of seafood. Brought back as it was actually inedible.

They even have holes cut in the table for your food to sit in (comes wrapped in a cone shape). Will stop here again next time!

I loved this place before they moved and have been very disappointed the last two times I visited... the last time being a week ago! Both times the fish was too greasy ... maybe the oil was old or not hot enough? Everything in the restaurant had a coating on grease on it ! The tables, the condiment containers etc There were many many flies buzzing around and it was very warm in there with the only ventilation being wide open doors ...hence the flies! My suggestion is get a proper air condtioning/ventilation system in there ASAP! Also maybe have a better cleaning schedule ... a place with that much grease needs it! This place is a gold mine and with a little effort and money returned to the business I’m sure it could be back up to the great place it used to be Dick! P.S. I was going to bring my guests from back east out for a feed but now I’m reconsidering????
