Very nice staff, the portions are really big, and I would rate the fish quality as a 3 to 4 out of five, it's not too expensive, and most fish places are these days. The only thing I didn't like was the fries they are homemade cut up potatoes deep-fried which are usually really good, but somehow they don't taste as good as when I make fries at home...(????) All things considered, I would recommend. But just have the fish and go elsewhere for the chips...... And pretty sure there's no juice..... Just water and pop.

One of the better fish and chip shops I've had since moving to Canada. A bit pricier than other fish and chip shops which is fine given the quality, but when asking for HP sauce you are given a tiny dish of it, I get why it's done but I personally don't appreciate it. For that reason Golden doesn't get the full 5 star rating it could.

Ordered this through Uber & so disappointed! Its a fish & chip place but their tartar sauce came in a no-name packet. No home made tartar sauce!?? The fish was ok, the fries were completely soft & soggy and saltless. Wouldn't eat here again

my kids don't like fish and chips until i took them here! My son's a self-proclaimed-poutine critic and says it's awesome ( I agree). The ratio of inside to outside on the fries is perfect -- basically fixes the 2 problems that swiss chalet/harvey's fries have with thickness ratio and portion size. wish they were open later than 7:30p on a thursday before a long weekend but oh well.

Best fish and chips I've had in over a decade. Not cheap but worth it. Fish fillet was thick and cooked properly. The batter was light and flavorful. Chips tasted like potato, fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Very impressed

Best ever fresh fish. The chips are fresh and clearly made in house. I recommend the Haddock for a better than excellent taste. The decor is minimal but nice, clean and welcoming. The staff are always very pleasant and food is prepared fresh for each order.

Too expensive for what it is, small pieces of chicken, with what tasted as old fries, on a cheap cardboard take out box. For always $27. Not worth it, better go to a Crabby Joes, and you get big pieces for same price.

Disappointed in my first experience. Waiter tried to rush us to order as soon as we received our menus. Food was good (ordered calamari rings, the salmon, and tiger shrimp), but there was a hair in my shrimp dip. The waiter took the one piece of shrimp to the back, without any other word of apologies or compensation. I didn't eat any more after that. Don't plan on going back, unless it's to the Guelph location.

I ordered a Haddock, shrimp and chips. Fish was good and felt fresh, chips seemed freshly cut but were not seasoned at all. No homemade tartar sauce, no coleslaw though. If you want to eat fish and chips, I would recommend this place but you got to come and eat or do take out yourself. Online deliveries will always mess up the food.

For some background. I never liked fish in my entire life, I would gag at the idea of it and never ever wanted to eat it. I finally allowed my fiancee to introduce me to it slowly and we picked this place. Honestly the fish was delicious, not greezy, amazing portion and smart server. A little pricey but hey, great fish isn't cheap! Thanks for amazing first fishy experience!

Good food at fair price. We enjoy Golden on a regular basis. Batter on fish is very light with just the right amount of crispiness. I personally love her mashed potatoes which are a very good option. Thanks from, 1 piece cod, 1/2 mashed and a large coleslaw.

It's always pretty quiet when I go here. I usually just get takeout but this time my little daughter insisted we eat in. The service was quick and the food hot. Nothing overly exceptional just your standard fish and chips. My only disappointment was that I couldn't get a salad substituted with my fish instead of "chips". I would have to purchase a separate salad.

Interior decor is average. But, not many places have fresh fish and servings like this place!! Its my "go to place" for Haddock or any fish species in the Kitchener/ Waterloo area. Never had a bad meal in the last 7 or 8 years!

For those who are seafood lovers this is the best restaurant for ordering amazing fish and chips English style. The scallops are so beautiful cooked. The portions are very generous and the staff are very polite. A very quiet place to enjoy a great meal or take out is quick. I highly recommend Golden.

The fries taste and smell like they were cooked in extremely old oil, the batter on the fish was not very crisp literally fell off the fish, the fish itself had 0 flavor didn't taste not even lightly salted. They have one young guy running around like a slave because there isnt anyone else to help him. You should stop being so cheap and get him some help. Very disappointing. I ordered the halibut and chips for take out and asked for the fish to be lightly battered and the chips to be extra crispy. The fish was very small and quite dry but lightly battered. The chips were no where close to crispy but came undercooked. The only reason I gave 2 stars was because the staff were very friendly. I will not be back.

What can I say? Worst fish I have ever eaten. Had to take a paper towel to the fish to soak up all the grease. Inside of the box was drenched in grease. It took 2 paper towels to at least get rid of some of the grease. Very disappointed. Wont be re-ordering from here ever again.

I've had their food before and it was good. The biggest problem is finding the store open. I went there this afternoon for a meal and sure enough there was a sign on the door CLOSED. I have no idea when it's open and it's really been hit and miss to get there when it is open.

This has become one of my go-to spots in Waterloo. After trying a few other places nearby, I would say this is the highest quality fish and chips among them. Such a simple and perfect product, truly. The fish taste fresh and the breading is light and as the name suggests, perfectly golden. The fries taste fresh cut and are absolutely beautiful- not too oily either, a sign of being shaken well and not rushed. The coleslaw is fresh and not overly dressed. I get the large haddock meal. I would recommend this place to absolutely anyone. This is a great and underrrated spot in Waterloo!
