Didn't even get to try but I got the terrible service right when I walked in. I took my kids our to try it as soon as we walked in we were told that we can't eat in cause the dining room was closed 20 minutes before the restaurant closed. Not mentioned on their website. Won't give it a second chance.

I couldn't wait to leave this place! We dined with my 2 young children and husband and were greeted by an older waitress who looked like an old school marm. She was stern and had to work hard at being polite. We attempted to order an appetizer and she quickly blurted out- No appetizers left! We had a busy weekend! She kept close tabs on everyone in the restaurant and watched us like hawks! Our children who were VERY well behaved, sat at the table waiting quietly for their food so I DECIDED I would take the sugar packets out and start a counting game. I went to the bathroom and when I got back, I overheard her cautioning my 4 year old that she expected the sugar packets were placed back EXACTLY how they were found. Food was fresh and good portions. I found the grease in the fish a little heavy on the stomach but.. oh well. Dining chairs had much of their paint scratched off and there was graffiti scratched into the paint in the bathroom stalls. Had I seen the bathrooms first before ordering, we would not have stayed! The over-powering air freshener that took your breath away when you entered, made me completely nauseated. It smelled like concentrated moth balls with a rose scent. Awful! I waited outside of the bathroom for my daughter because I could not stand it anymore and the old school marm came over and asked why I was standing outside the bathroom when there were 2 stalls in there! This lady did not miss a beat. I told her the bathroom odour was very strong and she said the health department made them use strong air fresheners! When we were finished our meal, she tried to have a small conversation with us and then reminded my daughter that before she gave us some candies and our bill, we would have to make sure the sugar packets were all lined up correctly in the container. I intervened and told her that I had taken them out and would be sure to use precision but perhaps she would consider wiping the filthy containers OUT! She blamed it on the weekend staff and said they get wiped out tomorrow and it does not take much for them to get dirty. Enough said! This lady had an excuse for everything! I wonder who she would have blamed for the air conditioning not being on. It was very hot and uncomfortable in there. Anyway, needless to say, food was good but overall condition of the restaurant and the not so family-friendly atmosphere was less than appealing. We will not be back. Ever.

I went there and got a lunch portion for lunch. I got the no batter option and it was good. The portion was ok for the price but it wasn't enough for me to feel full. Maybe the battered version would have been more filling? I'm not too sure. Oddly the tartar sauce came in small packages and since it was sitting in the waitresses apron it was warm... I don't know what I was expecting with all the rave reviews but it was ok. The waitress was nice and if you order pop they give you a can and not just a fountain drink. I got water and it came in this small plastic kids cup. Overall it was fine. Next time I'll try it with light batter and see if it's more filling.

A decent place. Have visited this place 6 times over the past 1.5 years. 5 times the food was great (lunch time). Once went for dinner and the food was just okay. Would recommend for lunch. EDIT: Had to change my rating from 4 to 2. The chips were greasier than they needed to be. And the fish was so overdone it was dry. The Batter tasted like a fried egg that had been over cooked. Cannot recommend when there are better fish and chips places in the city. What was once great food sadly is no longer

I ordered halibut and salad but I did not receive halibut. It wasn’t steaky, it was mushy/soft like cod. They insisted it was halibut so I just ate the salad and went to Popeyes for a piece of chicken. Place was clean and extremely friendly staff. Just too bad we couldn’t figure out the fish. My hubby and I love going here, we bring our family and it's a nice little restaurant with a friendly atmosphere and good food! The fish is always perfect and the gravy and fries is delicious. Never have to wait more than 15 minutes for our food either! Love this restaurant! ????????

The food was very oily.. the fish didn't even taste like fish.. felt like I was eating batter and oily chips. Food was very hard to put down and for the price/ quality I was VERY disappointed. Wouldn't recommend this place nor would I eat it again.

I went to Caz about 3 weeks ago - first time - since I had a coupon. Fish had a slight burnt taste but fries were good. Next time about a week ago, fish was great but fries were not cooked - raw in middle - and swimming in oil. Too gross to eat. The bag had a big puddle of oil on the bottom - about 2 tablespoons worth. That does not include what leaked all over my car and what half the box had soaked up. Yuck. I feel ripped off for paying full price the second time for what I could not eat. Had they made good fish and fries at the *same* time, I would give them a 5 but did not happen in 2 visits. Will go elsewhere next time. :P

My wife and I stopped by for a takeout order of haddock and fries with coleslaw. The fries were perfection, thick cut, with a crisp exterior and fluffy interior; and the fish was beautifully cooked, with a very light and crisp batter. Both were well seasoned, not salty, just right. The coleslaw was crisp, creamy and nicely balanced, without any taste of onions you get sometimes. I almost docked a star because the tartar sauce was from a packet, and nothing special; as Danny Ho mentioned (another reviewer), they should be making their own sauce, especially because it's basically mayo and relish! Whip that up from scratch! Regardless, I'll be back for more!

I don’t eat fish and chips too often but I decided to swing by here a few weeks ago. It was pretty decent; everything was crispy, the batter was light and flaky and the fish was cooked nicely. If there’s one suggestion I’d make, it’d be for Caz’s to make their own tartar sauce

I haven't had fish like this since I was a kid. Takes great skill to cook halibut with batter that's not thick and oily. This place nailed it! Fries and gravy were classics! And I must mention my halibut was huge. It was a giant piece of fish in a thin crispy layer of batter. Perfection! I'll be sending everyone here!

I was there a while back and never did go back. The place was empty and the guy behind the counter couldn't care any less about service lol. The waitress was ok I think. The fish was all batter and the fries were burnt. Anyhoo not very good at all. Better off just going to Angel's and getting fish and chips there at least it'll be good and it has better atmosphere. I don't know how there are any good reviews people must have taste buds like a donkeys back side :).

Food is above average, but within the last year, the serving sizes have been reduced by 50% which makes Cazs no longer worth the price. This makes me very sad because not two years ago, Cazs was on the take out rotation here at my house, now it has been replaced by King Fish and Chips on King St. In Kitchener.

The "cod and chips" I ordered was good, but not the best fish and chips I've ever had. I was very disappointed that this longstanding, "best in town" joint served pre-made tartar sauce. When fish & chips is your only specialty, it should go without saying that you develop your own tartar sauce. Heads up: it is wheelchair accessible, however their door isn't automatic with a convenient button. Someone will need to hold it open for the disabled.

Just had my first fish and chips here on a cold winters night during a storm. Thought I would try it. Can't say I would rush back. Arrived at 6;30 on a Sat. Not a soul in the place. No one. Placed my order with the cook. Got take out. Got home. No lemon slice, no ketchup, no napkins. This place needs to think this through a bit better. The fish was average, I've had better. The batter was too thick. I don't think I will be back here again.

So far, the waitress working is not friendly, almost coming off as rude. Did not specify our drinks and brought us the most expensive option. When asked about multiple things on the menu, we are told they dont have any. Only 2 fish types of 4 available and a couple salad dressings left... not what I would consider normal.

I had been here a few times prior to todays visit and have enjoyed. However, today was not so good. The service was fine and the battered mushrooms were great. The fish was terrible, the edges were so dried out i couldnt chew it so I ended up picking off all the dried out stuff. Way overcooked! Upon leaving we learned when it is busy they partial cook fish and than finish cooking it when order is placed (like New York Fries but this is fish!)The gravy was barely touched as it was like brown water. If you want real fish, try Kings fish and chips on King in Kitchener.

Nice people at the take out area. But not worth the visit. I picked up fish and chips for the family and after the shock of the price wore off I took them home. The fish looked large but it was 70% batter and very little fish. And the fish itself was very very wet. And unappetizing. We wont be back.

OMG! We called to complain because they sent us the wrong order (breaded chicken instead chicken strips) and they proceeded to tell me that was the normal order! We have ordered here many, many times, and know the diff between chicken strips and chicken breasts & thighs with the bones in - namely because our youngest child only eats the boneless strips. Instead of offering to fix things, they tried to tell me I was the one who was confused, and that this is what they always serve ( which I knew to just be untrue). I asked to talk to a manager and I got someone who described himself as ‘the closest thing to a manager’ at the restaurant, and he then proceeded to give me attitude, and then hung up on me when I asked his name. I called back to get his name, and he tried to tell me that I had hung up on him. I eventually got his name (‘Michael Finn’, if he was truthful) and then he proceeded to threaten me, asking my name, then calling it out from the call display, that ‘he knew who I was, too’. ( this made me feel very uncomfortable about future orders! - don’t worry though, we won’t be making any!!) He was angry, saying he was busy with a dinner rush, and that I would have to call back on Tuesday to speak with the owner - no offer to help, no understanding of the problem or why we were upset, and definitely no interest in making things better. I wanted a refund, because if they couldn’t deliver on an order of chicken strips, then I would need to order from somewhere else, and he was just too busy to explain... until I called back three more times! I am all for helping local, small businesses, even before the pandemic, but this guy has single-handedly turned me off from what used to be a great place to get good fish & chips, and proved that they could rally care less about the customers. Good luck Kaz... you’re gonna need it with staff like this...!

I could tell when I walked in today that the employees were over worked and busy! I ordered the “caz best fish and chips” meal that came with one peice of battered fish, fries and got water plus a 2 dollar tip came to $19.37. For the meal being on the more pricey side, I did enjoy the meal and understood why they won the readers choice award. I noticed the fish batter was light and crispy, but had a strong msg and baking soda after taste. The fries were thick cut and tasted great. I’ll defiantly be returning as I enjoyed the meal but might look for something a bit cheaper next time.

We wanted to give this company business as we really like their food. When we tried to use skip the dishes it said we were outside the delivery area ( which we are not) so we called and were told they are to overwhelm, they took their names off skip the dishes. When I asked if they wanted the business was told no not right now. It's only dinner time. Guess we will have to find new business to support. And yes we will be telling others.

Disappointed! Either my fish was undercooked or they gave me the wrong type of fish....it definitely did not look or taste like halibut. I ordered their large halibut dinner which came with 2 pieces (takeout). It was my first and last visit there. I love halibut and have had it at many different places within and outside of the GTA. I had high expectations because the restaurant appeared to have a nice atmosphere, however the food itself ...specifically the "halibut" was just not good.

This used to be the best fish and chip shop anywhere. Used to do beautiful fried calimari, the fish was big thick and fluffy, with tons of fries. My x wife's grandmother absolutely loved this place and i I assure you she is turning in her grave what has happened to this place. Small fish portion that seems to have been cut in half length ways.. slimy.. Small potion of fries that weren't that great. The wonderful calimari camaro is no longer on in the menu. This is not a fluke. . I came here about 2 months ago and it was exactly the same as today. This was the last chance foe for what used to be THE fish and chip place to go. No wonder the place is empty. Shut it down for peats' sake it is dying a terrible terrible death over and over everyday you open this place. Gross.

If there was a negative star I would give them one. Terrible service, gross food. When i asked for tartar sauce the waitress pull out warm packets or of her pouch. It was gross!! Packet sauce is terrible at it is, but when it is warm it is even worse. We say for a long time before ordering. When I approached the clinger and I asked to order the 2 woman working there were eating. They looked up and asked if they could help me. I told them we haven't ordered yet and they both laughed and said they thought I had already. Unbelievable!!

This is the last time I try with these guys. They are over priced, they have the smallest fish in town and their chips are over cooked at times. So disappointing especially as this is meant to be their tour de force. Local pubs such as The Village Well in hespeler give way better value for money. I just can't see why Caz's keep getting custom....as i scratching my head in disbelief.

kind of pricey for the atmosphere...very casual...ordered the battered mushrooms which were the bomb ($5.99) -- you only get one piece of fish with your meal ($11-$13ish depending on the type you order) and you gotta pay if you want a side of coleslaw as it only comes with 1 side (fries, salad or rice) -- 2 people 1 app 2 meals 1 pop and 2 slaws = $38ish tax in -- was tasty but not sure I'll return as I can get a better bang for my buck elsewhere :)

Not sure if we went close to closing time, but the fish was extremely mushy. It felt under cooked. I would have given it one star had the waitress not offered 50% off our meal. Not a pleasant first visit.

This has got to be the best fish and chips in Cambridge and very reasonable pricing. The the breaded mushrooms and huge and in a basket. We counted about a dozen for the same price as 6 in other places. Excellent and clean. Can't wait to go back again.

Sadly this is one of the poorer quality fish and chips Ive gone to. The fish is overbattered, the fries arent the greatest. And Im confused with the staff's competance. I asked for extra tartar sauce when I ordered, I confirmed while he was packing the food, and again once he gave me the bag. I went home to find 3 packages of tartar sauce for 2 orders of halibut. Sorry guys I have given you one too many chances. I will have to move on.

We would frequent Caz's when we lived in Hespeler. This past Good Friday we stopped to take out. Over $30 for 2 dinners. I have no issue paying for good food. This was too oily and very difficult to get down.

Got the Catz's Best and Chips for take-out. Awesome. Thickest piece of halibut I've had anywhere. Batter is nice and crispy. Fries are house made and also super thick. Lots of condiments with the meal. The guy behind the counter was cool. High recommended.

Awesome 1 pc fish and garden salad and they had my favourite Thousand Island dressing!! Coupon always appreciated at buy one, get 2nd half price!! Nice warm temp.in the restaurant which makes for a more relaxing meal.the place was busy about 545pm but we got served quickly by happy waitress.All good! ????

You would seriously,be smart to go and pick up some captain highliner,instead of the caz experience.I had the halibut there on two occasions,the fish had a soggy texture,the batter was bad,the fries were like the ones you bake in the oven.I gave it one star because I couldn't publish this without doing so.

Was wanting some Fish and Chips so thought lets give them a try. So glad we did. Everything was great. Good portion size, value etc. We went with regular batter, think next time maybe we will do the light batter. They have that option. Everything is made fresh to order. We also orders the mushrooms. Huge portion. And they were great. Fast friendly service with a smile. We will be back.

My friend and I went to this restaurant for dinner tonight. We were very disappointed with a service, food, way the waitress served us. She brought us dirty silverware, we asked for straws,bringing to us the small kids plastic glass of water, dumping dirty straws to water. When food arrived, it was cold, fries hanging out of the plate, tartar sauce out of plastic was gross. After all, we don't recommend place at all. It was waste of the time, money and food . And the worse was that waitress wasn't wearing a gloves or washing her hands after touching all kind of stuff around her. Sorry but very bad ???? experience and service. If this place have a zero star, I will definitely give that. Not even worth 1 star!!!

First time here. We told the server it was our first time too. She explained what the go to items are and said she would be back to take our order. She never did. She went behind the counter and ate food with her other female server friend. I looked at her like "please come over here" and she didn't. She continued to eat and count change. My wife eventually got fed up and had to get up and ask her to take our order. She came over and said she thought she already took our order and laughed. It wasn't that funny. We were served promptly which was nice but the fries weren't even cooked throughout... the fish was good but the tartar sauce they provide is procecced liquid plastic and it ruined the whole meal. Common guys for a "most famous fish and chips" place you should be making your own tartar !!! It's only mayo and relish after all. Honestly I dont think we'll ever go back. The ceasar salad was good... I dont know it was like the owner left 4 teenagers to run the place and it wasn't being taken care of very well at all. The coleslaw wasn't home made... half our meal wasn't cooked properly..they never asked if our meals were fine. They never asked to refill our drinks. Pretty bad experience.

Our family loves the Caz's Best Fish and Chips meal with light batter option on the fish. Gravy is also excellent and so is the service and family friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend eating here!
