Went for "buy one, get one half price haddock".. Ordered the haddock meal with a side salad.. Ate the food which was quite mediocre.. Took a long time to receive our food. We saw people who came in well after we ordered , getting their food before us. I was expecting a bill approximately in the $35- 45 range. The bill ended up being over $60 because apparently if you order the side salad, that meal is not included in the deal. The waitress never mentioned that when we first ordered or after we had our food. It wasn't until I went to pay that I found out it was only the "one piece with chips" only. Very disappointed with this restaurant. The food wasn't bad, but I would not write home about it. The fish and chip meal at Wahoo's Pub, and a hell of a lot cheaper. ($11.99) on daily special, and the fish was tenfold better. Do not waste your money, there are better fish and chip places out there.

The fish is always perfectly cooked, not overdone or dry. And something that isn't done everywhere is this: they use a different fryer for their fries. This keeps them fresh-tasting and delicious. I'm gluten intolerant, so cooking the fries in oil that hasn't been used for battered food is important for me. Full disclosure, I sometimes take a walk on the wild side and eat their battered fish. I seem to tolerate the gluten if I only have it occasionally. Thank God, because Captain George's is so good!

My favorite fish & chips place to eat..the only thing is the coleslaw needs to be more tangy...I find it very bland.!!!! Please add something or maybe use Miracle Whip then it will be both creamy & tangy!!! :-D

Had take away for the 1st time from Captain George's. We had the cod fish & chips. The food was excellent and the portions were a good size. We will order from them again. Note, if you are ordering on Friday you may need to order a couple of hours ahead around dinner time.

Don’t order the stand alone salads here, they really really skimp on the salads. They‘re basically all lettuce with nothing substantial at all. And the Greek salad was farthest from a proper good Greek salad.

Enjoyed the atmosphere and they had very good customer service! Unfortunately however when it came to the food, I found my burger to be really soft, and my companion found her food to be undercooked. They do have very convenient hours however, so if your looking for a decent place to eat at a time when others may be closed then this is your spot!

Oh my AMAZING ???? The ladies working Wednesday, December 2, 2020 in the evening you ladies were rocking it keep it up thank you for the amazing service. We don’t get customer service like that anymore these days it’s a lot different everywhere now. The food amazing our girls got fish fingers the oldest eat about everything on the plate the littlest one ate all the fish, she’s not big on carbs ????. We for sure will be returning. Thank you!!! Good food, great service. My family and I visited this afternoon and were kindly greeted. After our proof of vaccine was checked we sat down and ordered. Our order was taken quickly and courteously and before we knew it we got our fish and chips. Everything was cooked perfectly, not overdone and chewy like some other places. My wife, kids and I enjoyed and will be coming back on the near future.

The food was good, however I found the restaurant to be extremely wasteful. They use disposable items in place of real dishes. For example, instead of using reusable plastic or porcelain ramekins, the tartar sauce is placed in small waxy cups to be thrown out after use. All the drinks are individual (cans, cartons, etc) instead of using cups and cleaning them. I watched our server pick up all our unused, packaged straws and throw them all in the trash. Just disappointed in the lack of care about their environmental impact.

I've been here twice recently. Everything was great, and we really loved the fries, didn't even need ketchup! We got the daily special which is buy 1 get 1 half price Haddock and fries. It came with packs of tartar sauce, they also offered malt vinegar if we wanted it.

Why do restaurants pile on the fries? My wife and I went there for her birthday meal on Monday, because in this area most restaurants are closed or have no dine in. The waitress, who was working alone was very efficient and quick, but her loud displeasure with the cook was a bit over the top. We sat in their tiny, outside patio, but I was glad I had a long-sleeved shirt on because the metal patio tables were so rusted out that there were very sharp areas along the edges. The server was great at suggesting ways that we, and the other patrons could order our meals at cost saving prices. All in all it was a good experience, save for the dangerously sharp table edges.

I am writing this in hopes that the restaurant reads this. It is important. Everything about your place would be fabulous except what you serve has a hamburger was not even close to real beef. It was so full of what I can only guess as grains, fat and what ever. IT was tasteless and did not even look like meat. Please reconsider what product you are using. It is not a good feeling to write a less than positive review. We liked everything else and we will try going there again and hopefully the quality of the meat you are using will have improved. Seriously...you would get 4 stars from me otherwise.

Great place for fantastic tasting fish and chips. Never mind the wait because it's always worth it. So look forward to getting out of this pandemic bubble so many establishments have been suffering from. Safety protocols in full force here. Enjoy looking at their one picture in particular. It has several cats all waiting for fish scraps from a docked fishing vessel. We see one cat walking away, mouth full, whilst the many others are waiting their turn. Look closely and you'll see one cat staring at the other walking away with his mouth full. Makes a person wish they were on that dock to help them all out.

You get what's normally expected at a Capt George's: fish+chips, and some related Greek food too. Donair dinner's great, as well as the usual fish&chips. There's a patio, it's quite a nice atmosphere in downtown Trenton. Staff are super nice, and portions are definitely more than enough. Prices average. Would recommend! Great value for what you're getting.

I stopped in here on August the 27th after work as I had seen the signs over the week stating a new fish and chips place was opening. I could not see too much from the truck while driving but could tell things were getting close to the big day. I love the menus professionally done. The menu for food is great. Shrimp, fish, salads. I got the Halibut and Fries with Coleslaw. Everything here is made in house and you can tell. There had to be 50 bags of potatoes in the back. You won't get any fresher than that. The fries are large and you get plenty of them. Good friendly people. It has the fish atmosphere in here with the colours and the decor. It was getting busy. Can't wait to head back.

An excellent choice for fish and chips. They also have burger specials and meal deals. You can call ahead for pick and it's will be ready and still hot when you get home. They pack it like no other. Healthy option for people watching what they eat. Also they have poutine now as well. Lots of cold drinks and dips. Onion rings are not greasy like most. A well established long time store, with lots of love in their food. Wonderful couple who own it are so kind and welcoming. For a person who does not like fish and chips that much I recommend it it's good. And their wide selection of food can satisfy anyone.

This is a hidden gem in Trenton. Our family decided to explore the city on Sunday and found this Fish and Chip shop somewhat by accident. Very reasonably priced and hot and flaky fish. We had the Halibut Family package of 4 pcs of fish + small fries, a side order of poutine, and the calamari appetizer. Calamari was fresh and crunchy, not stringy or chewy. Fish was light and crispy with generous portion sizes. Fries were exceptionally good. Deep fried to a golden brown crisp. Couldn't stop eating them and I am very restrictive on my carb intake. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try the poutine because my wife at it all before I could try. Apparently that is good also. Highly recommended. Worth the drive to Trenton and definitely worth the detour off the 401 if you are passing by. Lots of free parking. It was empty when I got there at around 4 PM but apparently I was lucky because the lot was pretty full by 5 PM when we left. There is street parking also available and a patio overlooking the St. Lawrence inlet. Beautiful location to spend the day. Right next to the big arch bridge on Dundas Street. Located at the SW corner of Dundas and Front/Fraser Park Drive. Staff was friendly and fast also. Will go again and bring my Mom from Hamilton who also loves Fish and Chips. I'm telling co-workers in Ottawa about this place too.

Don’t bother going here if you’re in any sort of hurry or have plans. I called in an order and was told 20 minutes, well 30 minutes later my order was finally done. They said they were too busy, yet there was a cook sitting in the dining room and another standing at the till. We paid $25 for 2 paper thin pieces of fish. So I was late and it was absolutely terrible. If you try saying anything you’re wrong and the bad customer, it’s never heir fault. Any other restaurant makes sure to have pick up orders done on time, whether their busy in the restaurant or not. It’s too bad, years ago we used to go here, but now they just make you feel like you’re the problem.

I ordered by phone today for my hubby and I because we had a coupon, and come to find out the coupon is the same price as the dinner ALL THE TIME! Why print a coupon? Anyhow, the 1pc halibut & chip with salad, 2pc halibut & chips with Cesar salad upgrade and a small gravy came to $40.35. The food was hot, fresh, and not greasy at all! We were impressed with the halibut grade! It was thick and flaky, lightly battered and really tasty! The fries were fresh cut and cooked well. They were flavourful and a good size portion, that you won’t be hungry for a while. The garden salad I had wasn’t just lettuce and tomato! It had radishes, cucumber, shredded carrots and tomatoes as well that were nicely diced into bite size pieces. It was a proper side salad! I’m very sorry to say, that the Cesar salad left little to be desired! The dressing lacked flavour and the croutons were so hard, that you could have broken a tooth if not careful. The romaine lettuce wasn’t crisp either, so unfortunately we won’t be going to order this again. All in all, I’d say “Capt’n George’s Fish & Chips” is a hit with the Mr and myself, so 4.5 stars it is!

I wasn't too impressed with the taste test on opening day but have been back for my second cod with fries and greek salad. There could always be more fish but what you get is fresh and tasty and the batter is nice and thin. I've been to some other places that is all batter and no fish and no way i'll be going back to them. The fries are pretty good too. The salad could maybe be a little bit better but nothing major. The greek garden in Guelph has probably the best greek salad I ever found if you guys had salad like that it would be next level. But it is fresh and still very good. Take out I also got a good amount of napkins,ketchup,sauce and vinegar packs so another plus. Thank guys :).

Holy, attitude Lady. I'll start this review positive. The food was great. I had the salmon burger and it was juicy and not over flowing with tartar sauce. My mother had cod and a salad. Both of these items were displayed specials. We ordered at 2:05 p.m. and at 2:35 we still hadn't gotten our meals. Oddly, a group of three women who came in after us got all their food before us. But that isn't why I'm giving two stars. At 2:35 my mother and I realized we were going to late for a doctor's appointment. So we went up to the counter and said unfortunately we had to go because it was taking too long and we were going to be late. Instead of apologizing for the delay she became extremely defensive and said that the salmon burgers take a long time to cook and that's what we had ordered. Two things: 1. Salmon burger was listed as a special item, it was fair to assume it would be readily available. 2. You don't blame the person who is giving you their money. You say "I'm sorry it is taking long than you expected. Our salmon burgers take longer to cook." Not only did she become very defensive to us, she was loudly defensive to us in front of the rest of the restaurant. Luckily our food WAS ready at this point and we inhaled it. To make matters worse, as we inhaled we could HEAR HER in the back chirping us for having the audacity for asking about our food after waiting 30 minutes. On a $24 lunch I gave a $2.50 tip. I think that was more than generous. I gave that tip because the food was good and she gave us a cup of water for our dog outside. We won't be returning.

Friend and I popped in while doing errands in Kingston mid-afternoon during the week. Greeted warmly, and excellent friendly service continued throughout our visit. We both had a one-piece haddock fish and chips with cole slaw. Served fast and hot, the fish was delicious, nice crispy batter, tender fish with good taste and consistency. Nice fries, done properly in oil but not greasy. Cole slaw was also good, a mix between creamy and vinegar. Price was great, $12.95. Bright family diner atmosphere, not pubby or roadhouse. All about the food and service. Will be back to try the cod and halibut...

Ordered food yesterday. They forgot my salad. Not a big deal. Called and they set one aside for me. So I decide to order tonight, for delivery and have that added to my order. I requested a burger with lettuce, onion, pickles, ketchup and mustard. I dont like tomatoes or relish. My burger was delivered with ketchup, mustard, RELISH, TOMATOES, and like 3 tiny bits of onion. I'm fat so I'll eat it. Still rating a four, because the fish yesterday was delicious, the fries were great, and despite not having what I wanted on my burger, it is tasty. Maybe third times a charm?

My wife is NF heritage; so she knows her fish & chips. Me? I'm not a fish guy. Well... I USED to be. She asked me to get some (we're on the other side of town) and being super kind (and w/ strong survival instincts LOL) I called and picked up an order last night. WHOAAAA. The fries were fantastic, and NOW I get why this dish is so popular. These guys NAILED it. The batter is delightful, the fish tasted great (and I'm NOT a fish guy), and the price is fair. This is high quality food, so it's a little more expensive than a Subway sandwich... but you truly get your money's worth.

As a pregnant woman who is craving fish and chips I'm very disappointed with the service I just received. But I walked out because waiting in line, having a server walk by you many times without even greeting you and then when you get your chance up at the counter and the lady says "I'll be right with you" without a smile very smugly. I don't think so. I will not be returning. I understand restaurants get busy but the least that could have happened is a smile... a greeting when I got in there saying "we're a little busy right now, we'll be with you as soon as we can" you know... acknowledging the customer and maybe appreciating them a little if at least.

First time at Captain George's and could not help but think of the fish and chip place in Fast Times at Ridgemont High movie... nobody was wearing those terrible hats, but the decor was reminiscent of it. Anyways... food quality was very good, quantity of food was terrific. Order was ready on time, staff was friendly and quick. Easy and free parking. Not expensive, great value here, we will be back

I did takeout and by the time I got home (only 5 minutes away) the batter on the halibut had shrunk to the fish, not very appealing. The staff were great, especially Michelle she made my visit enjoyable. Restaurant is very clean and busy.

Have eaten here many times over the past few years and while they are certainly known for their excellent fish and chips I often opt for their equally excellent chicken souvlaki on a pita. Service is always fast and friendly and today was no exception!

Food was good. Batter could have been crispier but overall decent. Waitress serving me was rather gruff and had me waiting a while as she talked to other staff members about weekend plans. Other staff seemed very friendly and the place was clean. Was busy when I was there. Seems to be a popular place.

Delicious product but the person behind the counter cannot keep her mask in place. Mostly it's under her chin. I watched 20 minutes and she did not sanitize once. We're in the middle of a pandemic. This is not safe behaviour and I will never go back to this place again. I will inform everyone I know to keep away to stay safe. This is not ok.

Best fish in the tri cities. Light and flakey tempura style batter, white tender flakey haddock. Very fresh. Fresh thick cut fries were amazing. The staff were friendly, we called for take out and it was ready for pick up in 15 mins. Asked for extra tartar sauce and the girl filled a bag with all the sauces one could ever want with a fish and chips feast (tartar, malt and white vinegar, ketchup). Everyone at our party was pleased with the quality of Captain George’s. Being it was our first time we will be back. One bonus would be if they would offer delivery!

I had the halibut and fries with a side order of onion rings. It was a bit expensive I thought but the meal was very good service was very friendly they were actually using a infrared thermometer on everyone, way to go trying to keep everyone safe..
