For a convenience store, that is some insane sushi! I got the spicy Salmon rolls. The salmon was very fresh, the avocado was perfect ripe. Could have been more spicy imo, but overall great price for what you get!

Decent place with reasonable price

Aggie Lam

Interesting little store, would not have guessed it sold Japanese stuff if my friend didn’t tell me about it. Bought a bunch of mentaiko spaghetti sauce things and the negitori on rice.

I have a Japanese connection personally, so this was quite amazing to see in YYC. Of you are looking for Japanese food products, this is the place. Small but huge variety, great price, and very good service!

It's a small shop but it carries a variety of items, anywhere from A5 Wagyu beef to japanese import snacks. The staff was very kind and informative about their items because most of the labels are in japanese. However, be prepared to wait in line for a while if you plan to go during busy hours considering the size of the store vs people due to social distancing. It wasn't a problem for me but it's just something to keep in mind. I will definitely be coming back!

Friendly service and good variety of Japanese goods. Very pricey though we can only come purchase occasionally. I understand they import everything from Japan.

Great selections. The only grocery store in Calgary specialise just Japanese products. Unlike E-Mart (Korean), T&T (Taiwan), and Arirang (Korean), staff speaks Japanese and knows what they are selling. I am Japanese, and I approve.

I went there with my mom, oh my gosh, there are so much nostalgic snacks and food there. It reminds me of the times I spent time in Japan. I would love to go there again.

A hidden gem in Calgary! Amazing place for imported Japanese foodstuff and snacks. They have something different in stock all the time. Staff are friendly and very helpful. They also carry fresh wasabi, amazing sashimi and uni when in season. They also have mochi and other varieties of wagashi, teas, instant noodles and Japanese condiments that you would seldom find in larger Asian grocers. They have wagyu but I have yet to try. Worth a visit every time I’m in town!

Great selection. Great service.

Samuel Yang

Great place to find Japanese ingredients and snacks. They will often have sales for expiring products. Generally, the prices can be high (compared to what I've seen in Vancouver) but I guess it's somewhat justifiable for Calgary. They do have paid membership program which should give you 10% off purchases and additional discount during special events. The customer service is excellent. I've only ever met one of their staff and she has always been very informative and helpful. Tip: There are occasional fresh seasonal fish in the back that you can ask for or check for import updates on their social media.

Duane Stroeder

Good place to get hard to find Japanese ingredients for home cooking.

Amit Gandhi

If you're looking for "fresh" ramen noodles, not the instant ones - this is the place to come. Keep it frozen in the back - same stuff they sell to the restaurants around town

Nathan Yee

Great selection of fresh and frozen foods and snacks. Great staff and cleanliness of the store. Would definitely come again and recommend to others.

This place is my go to for anything japanese. It’s the only place I’ve found that sells real Wagyu beef (not cross breeds found elsewhere) high quality sushi fish and all your japanese pantry staples as well as popular confections from japan. Hands down, best japanese market in Calgary.

A small Japanese store located in the NE industrial area that supplies snacks, cooking and frozen goods. There is a fridge that has fresh sushi and wagyu ribeye beef. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Alot of specific items that I haven't seen since I was visiting in Japan. A nice shopping experience.

Ian Villabroza

They were so nice!

Charles Small

The store is a total shock, everything is in Japanese! They have a large variety considering how small the store is, and they even have things that are hard to find, they had Wagyu Beef, and even novelty Kimetsu no Yaiba drinks!

The only true Japanese grocery store in Calgary. They have a selection of sashimi, frozen food, snacks, awesome rice and mostly anything you need to prepare Japanese food authentically. You can also sign up for a $20 per year membership and get 10% off. They also have regular members only sales!

I discovered this tiny Japanese food goods shop via a friend recommendation. I did not know what to expect, having just visited Tokyo about a year ago. It is a very small store packed with many Japanese food goods! We were able to find Pocari Sweat in a 5x pouch pack which is difficult to find anywhere else. Now, the sashimi... It is out of this world! The price seems steep but it is actually very reasonable for the quality and amount you get in the pack. Haven't had Bluefin tuna like this in Calgary. It was extremely fresh and optimally flavored! Amazing, I am so happy to have found this gem!

So excited to see a lot of the products they had available. They had a lot of more obscure Japanese cooking ingredients that don't tend to show up in your average T and T or other Asian grocery store. Will definitely be back.

This is my go to Japanese store. It’s small and family owned but carry quality product! They have a wide range of fresh sashimi grade seafood as well as frozen ones! They also have a selection of legit (certified) wagyu beef!!! You can also get bento boxes of sushi and sashimi as well as onirigi. They also carry must have Japanese pantry essentials and snacks!

Yeah, it's a very small store and traveling to it can be very inconvenient for some people but if your tastes in Asian confectionaries are anything like mine, then whatever trek you'll have to take just to get to True World Foods is absolutely and most definitely worth it.

Very fresh uni and much better than T n T. A lot of tasty Japanese food and with a good price. Get five packs of noodles for free when you buy more than 20$. Became a member and will go again.

I usually love coming here and picking up the Onigiri Combo, but today it was very disappointing. They've changed the drinks and there is no longer the Kirin Milk Tea with the combos. Then shortly after I've already paid, the staff said there was a mistake of not adding a different milk tea to the shelves. I asked if I could change it, but they said there's no supervisor to make the change. Overall I am disappointed today as I generally come often to get the same things.

This place is a hidden six star gem in Calgary; in fact, I shouldn't even be writing a review right now, so I can keep it a special secret. You will only find such high quality toro at Shokunin... trust me, their fish and sashimi are super top notch here, and all for a very reasonable price. They always have some sort of special going on with onigiri, chirashi, uni, and bluefin toro sashimi. They have better quality fish than 99% of sushi restaurants... mark my words. Staff is also friendly and super helpful.

Stephanie

I love this place :) tucked away among business parks and warehouses is this Japanese store, reminiscent of a convenience store that carries a lot of great finds! They have sashimi, uni, Wagyu, and a variety of Japanese kitchen staples for sale that I can't find anywhere else. I haven't been able to find this roasted powdered seaweed anywhere but here, not even online. Was so excited to find this and shiroan. I also like that their website shows the products that they carry. This is how I knew I needed to go! Will be coming back :) and highly recommend. They are very good with following current COVID restrictions, limit to 4 customers at a time.

J G (DigiJ)

Wow, just wow!

I went to ask for unwanted cardboard boxes for my art practice. I was told that the employees are too busy to save some boxes for me and it's too dangerous because they don't have enough space in the storage. I can't imagine it takes too much space and labour to save a few crushed boxes on the side. This store is the only store that told me that. Other Asian grocery stores or any other stores are happy to give them away. Very disappointed.

mon s.

Helpful staff, but they don't hover. Have lots of Japanese stuff not available in most asian markets. They have a clearance rack too. Cold and Hot drinks are there too. Wish i had a of of time to check it out. We were just in a rush. We will be back. Things we got: Meiji Strawberry chocolate which i couldn't find on other shops. Rice toppings is always a must Bulldog sauce Hot coffee Friendly staff. I heard they can also get you stuff from Japan if you want something that"s not here. Yay!

Nigiri Sushi (front), Variety Sushi Roll Combo (back left), Coho Salmon Oshi Sushi (back right) Very fresh and delicious, which is reflected in the price! I liked the nigiri and coho salmon. Time sale happens usually from 4-6PM (sometimes starting at 3PM) - where sushi is 10% off (sometimes 20% off).

I went to pick up some ramen for dinner. They have fresh frozen noodles and flavor packets. All that has to be done is add boiling water. The store has a lot of imports from Japan and they all look soon good. They also have frozen Wagyu beef. I will be going back.

Always friendly, and surprising amount of variety in such a tiny store. The daily lunch special is a steal! The only downside of the store is that I always spend way more than originally planned. -)

Herman Ma

I got there twice a week to buy some ready made food (sushi, onigiri, rice). They also well many other Japanese items. Great snacks, drinks (hot and cold) and seafood options for purchase.

Brenda D

Small Japanese grocer with different/hard to find food and products. They have onigiri at the beginning of the week but it’s usually sold out by 4pm. Some items can be a bit pricier than you would find them at other Asian supermarkets, but a lot of items you can’t find elsewhere. Other than the onigiri the sashimi and food is pretty standard “supermarket/fast food” quality.

Røbert Cheung

Crystal Cheung

Great lunches. They have different lunches each day. Some days it's anago Don, some days they have sushi and sashimi. They are fresh and delicious. Blu fin tuna and salmon just melts in your mouth. It's absolutely amazing and great for the price. It's a small little convenience store that sells Japanese groceries. Have a lot of different food and snacks that you won't see elsewhere. Love this place!

A true gem. You can find an amazing selection of cultured and diverse products. They are very social media active and you can keep up with any new products they have in store. Staff is extremely friendly and are always happy to help if you need help translating the ingredients or helping you find what you are looking for. Prices are affordable and there are always sales, I especially love the daily lunch specials. Highly recommended a visit, there is always something new to try!

Small little shop tucked away in a industrial strip. They carry a large variety of snacks and candy. The largest I’ve seen compared to other international Asian grocery stores. They do not carry fresh produce. They also put pass expiration date goods on sale. The owner is nice.

Location is kinda hidden. Very small place, selling expired products for cheaper prices, sushi and sashimi didn’t look fresh! All those Japanese treats you can get them from T&T supermarkets or Tokyo Street Market ..:/

HIDDEN GEM ALERT!!! My first time coming here i thought what an odd looking area to be in and would have NEVER purchased fresh sushi or fish from this small place because it didnt look like the most sanitary place to be operating a food takeout BUT i can assure you our staff have been coming here for the last year for lunch when we have time to drive out of downtown because its worth it! They have the freshest sashimi and best lunch specials. They change it everyday and the negitoro is melt in your mouth. highly recommend

I waited so long to go to this little out of the way gem, but I'm glad I did. If you love Japanese food you absolutely have to check it out. A huge variety of snacks and frozen things (lots of fish) to satisfy every Japanese food lover. It's a small store but packed with interesting things. The staff are extremely friendly, and their prices are good (I thought I had spent at least $50 more than I did, and on top of that I got about $40 worth of free stuff!). If I had the money I would absolutely go here every week. Love you guys!
