I spoke with Trish, who is normally not on the floor but working in administration. I'm not sure if she's the manager, I was a little distracted when she mentioned it, but she was incredibly helpful. I have an older cat with a kidney issue, and he wasn't eating much. I asked what wet food might tempt a cat, and she asked a lot of questions, which was really good. I hadn't thought that his urinary issues might warrant a different type of cat food, but she suggested a wetter food (lots of gravy) and warned me to check salt contents. In the end I left with a couple different types of wet foods, things her cats liked, and free samples of raw food as well, in case he didn't like the wet food with gravy. I was very impressed with how much she knew and how incredibly helpful she was. If you see this, thank you again Trish!!

Great selection and nice clean store. Only negative point is it seemed very small, I was with someone in a wheelchair and could barely get down an isle if there was a floor display or another person so I'd imagine a stroller would be hard too. Wasn't acknowledged by staff however it was a busier day so all in all it was an okay experience just felt cramped

Awesome! I have two big silly dogs Betty White and Miss Sassy Cassie, I brought them in to see Brandi for grooming. She did a great gob, they’re pumped, I’m pumped. They look fabulous and smell fresh and clean, which is good, because they’re divas. The price was what I was quoted, they enjoyed their afternoon at the spa, and meeting the staff that popped in to say hello. The girls and I recommend Brandi, if your dog needs a spa day.

I used to work here as the assistant manager a few years ago, it was a great place and great staff, now when I come in it just bland, there is no charisma or love, they are usually hanging out there, the store looks good and clean so I am not sure who is the one that cleans that place so good for you because your peers everytime Ingo there are not doing anything and like I said I used to work there and there is always something to do, prices are a little bit higher than the competition Site note: I saw Calgary humane society with peace officers going into the store... So that's never good, do better

As usual it was a lovely visit to Petland where we got to enjoy playing with and cuddling with some of the critters. As well as stock up on some essentials: Dog food, cat food, crickets, and guinea pig pellets... LOL

Found the prices totally out to lunch. $130 for a pet bed? It didnt even have a frame and was fabric and foam. Also many of the cat toys were the same ones as the dollar stores just 4-9 times more expensive (not exaggerating. cat wands with wire and feathers were $18 here and $2 at the dollar store). But it was nice doing photos with santa/the grinch, that's why I give 3 stars not 1.

I just rescued a Maltese puppy a couple of days ago and he's pretty skinny and has been having trouble eating. We couldn't find any treats that he actually wanted. We went to Petland and the manager Sue was nice enough to spend about half an hour going through all the treats they have trying to find one that Baxter would respond too. Not only did she help us find something that he likes (after sniff/taste-testing about 30) but she is so knowledgeable so I was able to ask her questions about his tear stain problem, his personality and his weight and she had great answers and if she wasn't sure about something she gave me information on how I could find out more. Baxter loves her! He peed in the store (I was so embarrassed) and none of the staff seemed to mind they just cleaned it right up which made me feel even more comfortable. I had a great experience. The staff is awesome. Thanks so much Sue for all of your help :)

Great pet store with less of a chain-store feel than other large retailers. Store is always clean, the staff are friendly, and they carry a good selection of products. I provided kittens a few times in the past, and can vouch that they dutifully screen their sources and that all pets are well cared for and have had appropriate veterinary care. Some staff are very long-term employees, which is a bonus!

Don't bring your dog there for grooming. They took 4 and half hours to do my dog. She had spots shaved bare on her belly and a bloody paw from a nail cut too short. Too bad, the rest of the staff is great.

They do not sell the dry cat food we use, but I had to go through several aisles because there was dry cat food in a few different places, then to find a staff person to ultimately ask. It was a Saturday and it was busy so I extra patience and not being in a rush surely helped! They're a nice bunch of people, even if the store was a bit chaotic.

When purchasing the mealworm or cricket packages, they are often mostly dead or turn to beetles. It is very difficult to find a fresh batch to last more than one or two feedings. We live out of town and sometimes send other family members to make the purchase for us. In those instances the product is usually worse as they are not as choosy or notice stale/dead insects. Today, I got a full batch of completely DEAD mealworms delivered. I tried to call the store to leave message to make arrangements for another live batch to be picked up. The phone does not accept messages. This is very frustrating and I will be looking for another source for our pet food. This happens so often, I have only gotten 1 good batch out of the last 10 purchases. We receive excellent customer service at the store. Thank you for that. As for the products, please take note.

Fantastic store! The staff is extremely knowledgeable, very patient, and super friendly. They take the time to answer questions, and want to make sure they've helped you with what you came in for - not what they think you need. They work with the Humane Society for their kitty cats, and we have two from them now. They carry a large range of food, and when we needed to switch because of dietary needs, they walked us through all the options, and were very accommodating when one of the options didn't go over well with our pet.

It's a great store generally for most things, they have beautiful and well priced driftwood and cat litter etc, but don't come here for fish. I've bought several fish from them over the past year and every single fish i've gotten from one of their tanks has had a serious ICH problem, if you do buy fish from here you MUST set up a quarantine tank separate from your main tank and treat the ICH or whatever other disease you receive for a couple of months and hope for the best. They do take the fish back with a water sample before 30 days if it dies but you will be receiving another sick fish or a store credit as a replacement.

I was in your store less than a month ago to buy a product and was advised by a customer representative at the counter that the product was $90 dollars given their was no sticker price at the time. I was appalled to find the same product at PetSmart for a third of the price. I will absolutely not be returning because if you scam customers why do you deserve honest business.

Over priced on most items I looked at compared to other pet stores. Manager was difficult to deal with when pricing issues were brought to him by staff. Given that I started by saying if you can't price match that no problem but something seems out of wack his attitude and lack of attention was uncalled for. Ultimately we never even determined if that tank did not have the concerns I had with others I have seen and failed to comprehend the concern (which was present on several display tanks in his own store).

There are no Shawn Mendes songs (which I personally do not like) and there was 'take on me' playing which in my opinion, is a very good choice of music. There are animal adoption areas that are just great, the animals are well behaved, there is a big variety of animals, like gerbils, bunnys, birds and in the fish section, there are fish, lizards, and arachnids.

As for service, every time I come in Jo provides welcoming and excellent service. We went to this store yesterday, and saw a black kitten we were interested in. And older employee (Cathy?) told us we could not hold the cat because it had just arrived and needed to settle. When I asked what time we could see him today, we were told that under no circumstances could he be adopted until Monday. My son was very excited about his potentially new pet, and told me not to forget to get him up early on Monday to fetch the cat. I dropped by today to see if I could pay for the cat and collect him on Monday, only to discover that he had been adopted!!! Needless to say, my son is devastated. The woman on the phone who booked my appointment was very nice and understanding. Agreed to leave my dog there all day. There must have been a miscommunication between her and the woman working the next day and when I showed up twenty minutes after they opened the girl working was incredibly rude and told me I was late and that they wouldn't be able to do my dog. I explained I had her booked for all day to do at their convenience then she conceded and agreed to do her still but again went over that if I hadn't had her booked that way that they wouldn't groom her. I called her about15 minutes later to tell them not to worry about her nails because I had already done them and she told me I had to come back right away to get her because she had tried to bite them. Had to turn around to get her and they still had her tied in the table waiting for me. The older lady tried to be kind but and told me to have her done at home but I then had to explain that I have taken over care of her as her owner is in the hospitable and may not be getting out. They were not patient with her and did not go slowly with her even after my warnings when I dropped her off that she was an older girl and very nervous. Do not take any dog there that you expect will need a patient and slow handler. There is zero tolerance at this location. No issues previously at shawnessy Petland and good reviews. Had her groomed the next day with no issues.

I brought my 11 month puppy to get groomed the other day and although the girl did a decent job for the price I was really put off by what she asked me when I picked him up which was “does he not like children” I was shocked by the question as my dog is very friendly, loves everyone (almost too much), and is around people including children a lot and has never had an issue. She said that kids came to the door to watch while he was being groomed and he growled. The way she phrased it was like my puppy was a vicious animal that hates kids? Perhaps she should consider that he was being groomed for the first time by someone he doesn’t know, he’s alone and there’s annoying kids banging on the glass. I was very annoyed and thought it wasn’t her place to try to make me feel like like I had some monster puppy that hates people. She was 20 years old at most and working at petland doesn’t make you a dog whisperer so please stay in your lane.

I went into petland today looking for a replacement fish tank. The tanks were dispersed throughout 3 different aisle and a back wall. I had a hard time trying to find what I was looking for. Pricing for each tank was atleast 10-20% higher than comparable products at Petsmart. Sorry I was a client for over 18 year's Kevin the original owner was like my uncle! I work with many foster and rescue groups and I love all animals but after my last experience with petland I will never recommend petland to anyone. After adopting a pet it got very sick so I had to take him back he was so sick they refunded my money but I had asked if he did get better plz contact me as my children love him and would love to adopt him back. No call and as they watched him being adopted by a different family it broke their hearts .... so NO petland does not care about about the families but about their pocket book and I finally realize I have supported a terrible company and will not ever make that mistake again! Petland you have lost all respect in the foster and rescue communitee hope you fix your ways ..... sure your well educated and clean but you need to put your heart and soul back in it

Fairly Hill Creek a place to be staff is a bit hard to find sometimes and all of their fada fish lately have had fin rot still coming back has been a hassle as well as as anyone noticed the Neo and tanks set up for fish everything looks really bright and cool in there but if you look at the fish eyes it's like they're blinded could you imagine swimming around in that bright bright backlight Neo and stuff repeatedly day in Day Out 24 hours a day honestly I think that they have made a lot of fish go blind

Love the selection and especially the helpful staff however I really really don't like seeing animals in tiny cages particularly when a hamster gets more room to play with than a cat because the hamster toys have a better margin than the real cat!
