I bought my first fly fishing outfit last fall at BRT. Everything from boots and waders, to the rod and flies. The store is small but the staff more than make up for it in their extreme wealth of knowledge in the local fishing, equipment, and techniques. I am really happy I started my fly fishing journey here. I would highly recommend this awesome store located minutes from the bow river for any of your fly fishing needs.

The go-to fly fishing store downtown Calgary. Great beginner products, also great high end specialty goods. They have lots of women stuff which is nice. Their online inventory mirrors what they have in stock, I find that convenient. These guys have helped me with fishing my rod with the right line, putting me into proper comfortable waders and giving me bugs that actually help me catch fish. Also, I have done some guided trips with Max, his casting tips literally pushed me to another level. I just floated the Bow with him last weekend, we moved over 40 fish on dries (because I refused to tie on anything else). I'd highly recommend this store for anybody who is into fly fishing.

I've shopped at Bow River Troutfitters on and off over the years and bought flies, fly fishing accessories and most recently in the past three years, all my Fishpond packs (backpack vest and belt system). Before, I lived in the upper northwest of the city it was rare for me to visit Bow River Troutfitters. Since moving downtown, I've found that I'm in more and more often. The staff at Bow River Troutfitters are all knowledgeable and very kind to new and returning customers alike. I would consider myself intermediate in the sport as I'm still learning so much. Elliot has been patient and very open with advice on how to fly fish but also on how to take care of this precious resource. Lastly, if you're lucky, you can even chat with Chris Nichols, a local celebrity who is very kind and generous with his advice on tying flies and fly fishing. He is a surprisingly good salesman and has convinced me to buy most of my current gear.

I went on a river float tour with my stepdad last year and I just wanted to share my amazing experience: Starting off with our amazing guide. He had an exceptional understanding of the entire river, every good spot, all the bad spots, and he always would explain why they were deemed so. I wish I remembered his name because I would like to thank him personally (I do have a photo with him tho!) I was also a novice when it came to fly fishing, but after helping me select an amazing fly rod and reel, as well as all the other accessories I would need, he proceeded to show me how to use it before we even got on the boat. This resulted in me having confidence in myself during the float. Finally, I just wanted to describe the amazing in store experience. If you’re unsure of what you need, simply ask one of the amazing staff to help you out. They will give you great advice about what to look for when it comes to flies, and they explain the different uses for different flies. They also have amzing knowledge in regards to all their products. Great time. Great people. Great store!

We had the pleasure of attending the intro to fly fishing course with Bow River Troutfitters. It was such a great experience and I could not write a glowing enough review. Aaron and Jacob were so knowledgeable and you can tell immediately they love what they do. They were so helpful and got us excited to learn. They answered all our questions and encouraged us to "nerd out" on all aspects of fly fishing. After a bit of field practice on casting, they take you down to the river and show you how to read the river and what bugs to look for. Aaron and Jacob were encouraging and we left out lesson excited to get out on the river. I have already suggested the class to friends and family. Besides the amazing class experience, the store has everything you could need and more. It is well stocked and the staff are more than happy to answer any questions. You won't be let down by this place.
