Be careful with the grooming. Awful experience. My Pomeranian has a chunk missing out of her forehead (why you’d even take the clippers to a dogs forehead is beyond me), the entire cut is botched, uneven, too short. Only offered a $5 discount. My husband went back and we were refunded the entire amount ($63). See attached photos.

I’ve been taking my cat here for the last few years for regular grooming. Ronnie is always very good with him and pleasant to talk to. My cat is very shy and skittish, but Ronnie manages to handle him and keep him calm without any sedation. I highly recommend his services!

Wonderfully helpful staff make it easy for me to make the best choices for my kitty. (I adopted him through them from the kitty rescue they help support.) Their prices are very competitive and they are willing to take time to explain to me what is needed to take good care of a "teenager" kitty. This year I took my big boy back to get his picture taken with Santa Paws and I got my pictures today. The pictures are really great and I learned that they raised over $1000 that went to support the Action for Animals rescue. What a great store that would do this event to help support animals!

A fantastic neighbourhood pet store with grooming services for both cats and dogs. Free parking in the designated spots in the rear. A wonderful selection of carriers, cat trees, raw foods, and oh so many treats. They also a point system, ask the staff for more details.

We had heard good things and are adopting a kitty, so we dropped by to pick up supplies. They had a good selection of everything from food and treats to toys for dogs, cats and other small pets. We especially like that they carried non-conventional brands and had a small selection of frozen raw food in stock. The resident cat is very confident!

Van Pet Food is a fundamental part of the Burnaby Heights Community. I feel so welcomed whenever I'm there. I used their delivery services for cat food in the midst of COVID-19 regulations and they delivered my order within an hour of me placing it! They carry a variety of excellent and diverse brands and am especially glad they carry so many local brands.The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They helped me to make sure I had everything I needed for my first pet. Haven't tried out their grooming services and am a little nervous my cat will be her usual diva self, but if I were to trust anyone, it would be the folks at Van Pet Food. Thanks for all that you do, Van Pet Food!

They have a great selection of food (dry, canned, raw) as well as treats, toys, litter, accessories, grooming supplies, etc. The prices are a bit steep but the owner and his staff are very accommodating and (most) are friendly. I trust the owner but do not fully trust the staff as far as advice goes. Not really sure how educated they are in the pet field. I always try to support local retailers so I don't mind paying a bit extra. Lots of free parking and they are open until 7:00 pm most weekdays. I definitely recommend this place over any of the large, chain stores.

Not only are their products very reasonably priced, Paul the owner and his team are always smiling and very helpful. They also have a points system for every purchase which you can use towards discounts/credit on future purchases. There is a resident cat named KC who is a rescue cat! He is so cute and friendly. I wish more places had resident cats! I live in Langley but work all over the GVA so I make sure to stock up on my cats' food/supplies here whenever I'm in the area :)

I love this place. First, they have resident store cats that are super friendly. Every time I go pick up food for my cat, I find something new that I think my cat will like. You can tell they really care about their clients and their needs because every thing they carry is top notch. Not only are their shelves stocked full of Royal Canin and Hills Science, they also have an incredible selection of organic and raw food. Looking for a new toy? They got you covered too. It seem like they keep a constant stock of fan favourites, but always rotating in new things to keep it fresh. I can't be happier to find this place for my cat!

I asked for corn based litter, was told its right there and was given a bunch of hooey about this litter that its supposed to be the best. When i got home, it wasnt corn based, but i decided to try it. Was the worst litter ive ever used. It didnt clump and lasted 3 days for a huge bag.

This is a great local pet store, they're super helpful, stock most things you need, and are really nice. I took a star off though, because they don't seem to stick to their hours. My family and I have shown up multiple (probably 4 or 5) times within 10-15 minutes before their closing time to find them already completely closed (gates across, sign in, locked and no one in sight). Just be aware before you drive across town to get to them, that it's best to show up well before closing!

I have to agree with Seth. The groomer knows what she's doing, you can see by the quality of her work. They would not give an animal a flea bath unless it was absolutely necessary. I brought my medium hair domestic to her , who was an indoor/outdoor cat as well. Sure enough he had fleas, as would most outdoor cats who aren't properly maintained for by their owner. She taught me ways to keep him safe from fleas such as, flea drops or flea collars . And even showed me ways to handle and care for him while treating him. Groomers that don't care wouldn't go through the hassle of showing customers that if they didn't care. Definitely coming back, great service , very knowledgeable and awesome staff!!

Ronnie was very friendly to our cat, patient, and did a thorough and effecient groom (we were done in less than an hour!). The main lady that works here is very passionate and helpful. I simply tried to buy nail clippers for my cat and she asked me if I had clipped his nails before and showed me how on the cat at the store. Every time I ask a question about a product I receive much more info than I thought there was. They promote local and natural products here and give great advice on them too. I shop here regularly and couldn't recommend it more.

Keeps him happy and cool in the hot months and he's surprisingly chill while the groomer does his work. Made a visit to Van Pet Food for some treats and toys. Was very upset to see that their store cat seemed to be very unwell. His eyes were watery and one was for the most part kept closed. He seemed to be in pain. When I inquired with the staff member (a younger guy) he seemed to kinda shrug it off saying "we think he has an ear infection". When I asked if they were going to be taking him to the vet, his response was very uncaring saying "probably". I am VERY upset to see that not only is the poor kitty sick, but it seems they aren't doing anything to take care of him. VERY UPSETTING!!!

Long story short - I love this store because of Tamara ( I hope I spelled her name correctly)! First we went to this store was ~3months back with our 9 week old golden retriever pup Gina! Given that this was our first dog ever, we received the much needed support and guidance from Tamara that we did not expect. Every product that she has recommended us - from food to toys and chew toys- our pup Gina has absolutely loved them all! Today she recommended us a harness for leash training and boy did it work wonders! Like us, Gina also loves to see Tamara every time we visit the store. She gives us tonnes of practical tips that have proven more useful than a puppy class! Great store..great products and a staff member like Tamara who goes way beyond regular customer service.

I have been buying my kitten and puppies food here since I adopted them. The customer service is exceptional. I have to say, the store manager, Tamara is outstanding. As a nervous new puppy and kitten parent, she went out of her way to educate me on the different types food, treats and supplies that I would need. She always takes the time to explain things both in person and over the phone. This is why I continue to come here even after I moved further away. She genuinely cares.

Second visit taking my long haired kitty to see the groomer Ronnie. He’s very attentive with her, and sweet talks her while still getting everything done. First visit we just did a trim of belly and bum (to prevent dingleberries lol!) and we were impressed. Second visit I requested a more overall trim, without going into a lion cut. Ronnie did a great job, my cat looks like she lost a few lbs of hair alone. I will definitely continue using Ronnie as our groomer, it’s hard to find a reliable cat groomer.

While it is quite possible that the Grooming is competent with dogs, she should never be allowed to deal with cats - EVER - we took our long haired kitten, just under two years old to this place as she had some matted fur, and asked her to basically untangle it and shampoo her.. Over the phone she told me she would have to trim the cat's nails for her own safety. I thought this was a bit odd and explained that our cat was an indoor/outdoor cat, and needed her claws for her own safety. This woman told me that she would only snip the points of the claws, so I reluctantly agreed. I dropped our kitten off and was told I could pick her up in a couple of hours. Later, when I picked her up, I could not believe it. Our long haired kitten had been shaved like a poodle, and had been obviously traumatized into a whimpering wreck. The woman told me that our cat had been infested with fleas and that she had given her a flea bath.. While I was still in shock by the sight of our cat with this hideous poodle cut, and the worry about having to deal with an infestation of fleas in our house and on our other cat, she talked me into buying a whole whack of products. What was supposed to be a $60 simple grooming, had turned into a $130.00+ disaster. When I got home we discovered there were no fleas, either on our other cat, nor in our house. Examining the kitten she had shaved we found out about the claws. They had been cut back so far as to be barely visible. Bottom line: Do not let this person anywhere near your cat. At best she is incompetent to deal with them, at worst, she may actually hate them.

The review above...seems to be an extremely incompetent pet owner. The cat as mentioned was matted, the majority of matting if brushed out would create bald spots and could cause follicle damage, THE GROOMER DID THE RIGHT THING by shaving it short, since the owner obviously did not comb or brush their cat and get the cat comfortable with the basics of grooming. For you to put all the responsibility for your lack or care for your own pet on the groomer shows just how ignorant you are as a pet owner. Also I am sure it was a LION cut and not a poodle cut. I dont know this business, or have any experience with this business. But your review was so bad I had to speak up to your crap review. My suggestion.....get a clue. $60 is a great deal for your cat which I am sure did have fleas if you are not using a monthly preventative. FLEAS live outside dummy! then feed and jump off they don't live on the animal....idiot!

Just moved to the area and needed to find a new groomer for my furry dog and came across this gem! My dog is a mixed pomeranian thus his fur can get a little wild but the groomer, ronny, was so great! He was so warm, caring and attentive to detail. My dog came into the shop looking like a homeless disheveled mutt and left looking like a handsome, full time employed pup. It has been 3 days and he still feels so soft and smells so clean!

Van Pet has been an essential in our home for many years, we love Tamara and how much knowledge she has and has helped up greatly navigating through our various pets. The recent upgrades in the store are great, it's clean, bright, and just modern. Their selection is great and they have something for ever pet in the household. Will continue to go back for years.
