Tried all fish and chip shops in the area , Shanty is one of the two good ones , other is Caz’s !New owner at Shanty is better than when previous owner had it .Photo of chips doesn’t do it justice ! Having said that , I’ve again taken the shanty’s f and c , ( 4th recent visit ) and it was not comparable to previous visits , seems consistency is a problem !

We were in town for a hockey game so my daughter and I met my parents here for dinner and we all agreed this was the best fish and chips we have ever had. We all had the halibut. It was lightly battered, flaky and delicious. The chips were amazing and the mushy peas were perfection. The service was excellent. This will be a regular destination whenever we are in Burlington.

The food is consistently excellent here -- I have had both lunch and dinner here with many friends and co-workers, and all of them agree that the food and service is beyond reproach. The fish is flaky and never greasy. The fresh cut fries are a treat to eat (I'm generally not a fry guy, but I make an exception for these). All of the staff is very friendly and always make you feel welcome. If you are going for dinner, make sure to call ahead because they do close early in the evenings.

Sea Shanty Fish & Chips has my vote, hands down. You'll find they have the best halibut fish & chips, as well as melt-in-your mouth scallops! I'm not a fries fan, but after my friends and I watched the owner in horror give us a demonstration on how to eat them properly by dousing the fries with malt vinegar and salt, we were all pleasantly surprised by how amazing they tasted! Wowzers! If you're ever in Burlington, stop in and give Sea Shanty Fish & Chips a try and say "hi" to Ian. You won't be disappointed by the food or service.

After my favourite fish and chips shop closed down about 2 years ago, I have been looking for a replacement without much success. In my Googling efforts, I found one more to try. My first experience with Sea Shanty was very favourable. The fish was delicate and well battered (delicious!), the fries generous and the coleslaw both creamy and with just enough acid to give it a lovely fresh taste. What impressed me prior even to my fist bite was the cook. I had the opportunity to watch the action from the counter and was entranced by the skill and precision displayed. Continuously checking the quality of the cooking, maintaining the fryer to be as clean of debris (and burned flavours) as possible, even breaking open one of the fries to ensure they were cooking to standard…this was someone in tune with the product and the equipment and who cooked with the sure knowledge that “just good enough” just isn’t good enough. I will be back, and I strongly suspect that, like the song about Henry The Eighth (“Second verse, same as the first!”), my next experience with Sea Shanty will be just as fine as my first impressions.

Customers were spoiled for many years by the previous owners. Good Friday was chaos with no direction. Sign on the door said 5 allowed in the store and I counted 17. By the time I got to the front of the line to order they were not taking walk in orders. Stood in line for 30 minutes before finding this out. Can’t rate the food as we never ordered.

Must be new owners as this place is not the same as before covid. The fish was OK but the chips were terrible and were not fresh cut chips but more like frozen bag fries. We will not be ordering again which is a shame because we loved this fish and chip joint for a few years. The gravy wasn't very tasty either and overall we were fairly disappointed.

We first met Ian, the patron of the Sea Shanty Fish and Chips, in a dog park in Toronto at the weekend around a year ago. Some good banter led to a few pints, and the beginning of a great friendship. We met up many times over the course of our year in Canada, and have made some lifelong friends. One day he invited us to his place sea shanty in Burlington to try his fish and chips, and were blown away by the whole experience. Coming from England this is something I know a little bit about, and I can hands down say that his are the best I’ve had outside of the United Kingdom, and would easily be in contention for the best back home. The particular highlight is the batter, light and crisp, of just the right thickness, made with the sea shanty’s unique recipe. It’s not just the fish and chips that makes this a special place. It’s the fact that it’s been family owned for 50 years, and you can tell Ian really cares about his customers. Every time I have been I meet regulars who have been coming for years, often different generations of the same family. Rather than the standard sterile “hi my name is xxx and I’ll be your server today” service experienced all too often in North America, as soon as you walk in here you feel almost like you’ve been welcomed in to someone’s home, and your hosts take a genuine interest in you and making your meal as enjoyable as possible. We have now moved back to England, although whenever we come back to Canada we will make a point of coming back to the sea shanty to see our friends, have an excellent meal and even better company. If you haven't tried Sea Shanty do yourself a favour and go! Delicious fish in a nice crispy not too thick batter so you can actually taste the fish. Their chips seal the deal for me as a big french fry fan. They are crispy and not dry inside. The chips alone are worth a visit. We have tried quite a few places in Burlington and these are by far the best. The owners are so friendly and interesting, we always have engaging conversations! *** Feb 2021. Sadly this restaurant has changed owners and I would NOT recommend it now. The fish was paper thin and quite small , the chips were not great.
