I was in absolute shock after my visit to this pet store. The second you walk in the smell hits you. It smells like cat urine. The back room where they house all the live animals was horrible. The 2 large Macaws were together in a small dirty cage. No toys or clean water to be seen. Same was true of the Budgies. 7 of them stuffed into 1 cage. Dirty water and nothing to stimulate or entertain them. The cages and floors were filthy and there were cockroaches crawling everywhere. I wanted to cry. What a horrible, sad existence. They should be ashamed.

Although small, this store is packaged with pet supplies and so much more. Staff are extremely friendly, and you can find variety of fish and pets/pet food here for affordable prices. Space is kept extremely clean and so are the fish tanks and animal houses. Nice place, would come again!

I have a few issues with this place. The whole setup is just super crammed, and makes it difficult to find items. There is a doorbell outside that you need to Ring to go inside - so now during COVID you have all of your customers touching a bell. I had to ring twice because after two minutes of waiting after ringing, nothing. When a lady finally opened the door, she asked what I was looking for, I said bunny toys, and she said they had then but “next time I want you to order online”... If you want people to order online, fine. However not everyone has time to order online, I work 12 hour shifts and go to the pet store when I find a free moment. I don’t have time to order things online. When checking out she explained that the online ordering was because of covid, however my boyfriend and I felt that when we were initially greeted, it felt like we had done something wrong by coming in to shop. The lady also claimed that the door was kept locked because of her cat. Sorry, but if that’s why your door is locked then don’t have your cat running around the store. Your customers don’t want to stand outside and ring a doorbell. I found some items I wanted for my rabbits and decided to take a peek in their animal room. What I saw was unacceptable - 3 rabbits with NO hay. Rabbits diets consist of 80% hay, and they need access to hay 24/7 to keep their digestive system working otherwise they can become very sick (with GI stasis). As a bunny owner this made me very disappointed and sad. My experience made me feel like I was not a valued customer, I prefer PetSmart or Paulmac’s Pets over this place. UPDATE: Bunnies NEED hay, regardless of what ingredients are in their pellets. They need pellets AND hay. Hay-based pellets are simply not sufficient. I urge you to please start giving the bunnies hay, and if not, please do not sell bunnies. Providing pellets 24 hours a day is also unacceptable and unhealthy - this can lead to overweight bunnies as pellets are fattening. I also do not like the extrusion pellets - the Oxbow brand pellets meet the nutritional needs of rabbits much better. Not only are you depriving them of 80% of their diet, you are setting a poor example for customers who wish to purchase bunnies. If you would like some advice on proper bunny care, feel free to contact me directly.

We visited Pet O Pets on a whim and were delighted with the supply and variety! My partner and I have a small zoo between us, and it was refreshing to see an independent shop with such a wide variety of supplies for small animals, reptiles, and birds of all sizes! We will be shopping here again!

Horrible store. Don't think the birds gets any out of cage quality time maybe only when trying to impress a potential buyer. Also tried to sell me a 2.5 gallon fishtank for a betta when I asked for a 5 gallon fishtank by saying a 5 gallon tank is too big for a betta because they didn't have the one I want in stock and the price I was quoted was shocking. I've had bettas for 35 years. For proper care, one male betta does need a minimum of 5 gallon tank even better if 10 gallon. Please do not misinform new betta owners that 2.5 gallon is sufficient because it is not especially if you want to keep stable water parameters and have your tank cycled properly. They also need low flow filters and heaters as well. Edited to say: I wonder who is lying. You quoted me $80 for a 5 gallon tank! This is what you guys do reply to every review that is negative. I was going to buy from you guys rather than a big box store but after the interrogation of what kind of fish I'm keeping and how 5 gallon is too big, the rip-off pricing and the attitude I got, no thank you.

I recently went to this store to buy an animal with my 2 friends , we were greeted by a SCREAMING bird at the end of the hallway, as we were waiting to be served the woman kept getting phone calls having to leave the 3 of us in the back of the store with a free roaming bird MULTIPLE TIMES who showed clear signs of aggression, the male owner came out trying to PICK UP SAID BIRD and it bit him IN FRONT OF 3 PEOPLE! A second bird later bit the man, the bird clearly has previous records of aggression and SHOULD NOT be allowed to roam the store with customers in the store! Would not recommend Not to mention there was a BIG dead fish or dying fish in its tank... it was just chillin in the bottom of the tank dying ...

I am happy I’ve found Pet O Pets. As a new bird owner I had lots of questions. Unlike the “Smart pet” store I was able to have my questions answered by a clearly knowledgeable staff member. Sid was able to give recommendations without sales pressure. It was all in the name of keeping my bird experience positive. Also I must note in such a small store I found more bird accessories here than 3 big stores combined. This place is a must shop if you have a feathered family member.

Would give an even lower rating if I could. DO NOT go to this pet store, especially do not purchase anything to support them. The conditions are TERRIBLE. Multiple birds are shoved into tiny cages (in one cage that looked to be the size smaller than a hamster cage) in one I counted 12. These birds also don't appear to have water or food. In addition, I also found multiple bunnies shoved into tiny cages with NO water or food or hay (which I may add they require in their diet). Water, however, is the most important for animals and should be provided to them ALWAYS! When I approached the man working to politely ask where the water was, he freaked out and lost his mind at me. Please do not support this store. I am astonished at not only the conditions for these animals, but the service from this particular worker.

We went to pet o pets Burlington about a week ago and the lady was wearing a scarf but it was not covering her nose There was also a crowded room full of different exotic animals such as birds we went there to ask about pellets she helped us pretty fine but when we went into the area with a lot of birds, the birds were screaming it was crowded no windows no doors no nothing the birds were also kept in tiny cages on an all pellet diet without any vegetables and she had said that that's their diet. I would also like to mention that there was a salmon crested cockatoo for those who don't know this is a very big bird that requires a lot of space it was kept in a tiny enclosure screaming like crazy. On the website it has been stated that they have UVB lighting great large cages and other things for the birds when you go into the Mississauga or Burlington location that is not what you see.

Walked in hoping to see the sphynx kitten, we were told it was on lunch. Um what does that mean?!, was it at mcdonalds getting Nuggets?! And what time was his lunch break over?! Wth does it's on lunch mean?! The smell in the place was horrible, even thru my mask it was making me sick. The screaming parrot in the back room was intimidating. My bf couldn't even go near it, it would scream even louder. Why are your dogs all imported from Europe?! Why do I have to buy a Cat on line and add it to my cart?! You advertise you have cats and dogs but dont even have one in the store. Sketchy if you ask me. So since I'm not sure how to reply to your response, I'm not sure who you are referring too. I never even spoke to anyone until we left literally 3m after we walked in the store. Had to wait for woman to bring crickets up for some customer so we could leave. It was then I asked where the cat was? Woman told me it was on lunch. So clearly get your facts straight. We came to your store hoping to look at the cat we wanted to purchase. At no point were we "entertained" by you or anyone in your store. I wasnt with my "kids". It was 3 of us.. Only one teenager. . I'm so confused by your response. You seem to attack your customers who leave less then positive reviews. Why do you have to buy animals online? Tell me that? We've been looking for a sphynx for a year and thought it would be perfect buying one locally. Why does your store smell like cat urine?! Such a small space for so much crammed in it. We will NEVER come back into your store and will be sure to share our experience with everyone we know.

I was pleasantly surprised with this shop as the location appears small with all sorts of pets advertised. However once you walk in you can see all the serious organization and thought that went into this location. I was surprised to find a lot of items you don't see at bigger pet stores, and for fantastic prices!! (Fish caves for under $10, wow!) Not to mention, the reptile section is kept up beautifully with all tanks decorated and very natural, keeping their pets super happy :) excited to show this gem to my other pet loving friends! If I could rate higher I definitely would.

It's 2019. Stop selling these poor animals in stores. There are plenty of animals in shelters that need homes. If you're looking for a specific kind of bird, cat, turtle, etc., please do your research to find a proper, certified breeder. Animals are living, breathing, sentient beings that should not be kept in small cages in small, dark stores. The animals barely have access to light. PLEASE do not support this store!

the parrots are in such terrible conditions wow. these incredibly smart animals are kept in barren cages! the baby african grey had a swollen and twisted foot and he was being kept with an older bird, in a tiny cage. he looked so depressed and was just sitting on the ground of the cage. the 2 macaws are kept in a cage with one single toy. if you love animals don’t support this place.

Words cannot describe how completely and utterly horrendous the customer service was at this location. As I write this review I am still in awe that this institution is still open despite the many poor reviews it receives as well as my own personal experience similar to that of many others. We first called to inquire regarding budgie availability before placing our order online. We however had to call a second time to inform them that we had accidentally used the wrong email address on the ordering page to which the owner answered the phone. Through this conversation I became aware of this businesses dreadful customer service standards as he answered our questions rudely and gave us attitude. When we arrived to the location we showed his wife our order number before selecting the birds we wanted. Before we left the owner stopped us and told us that we needed to purchase food from HIS store. When we tried explaining that we had already purchased food from PetSmart he immediately resorted to berating us about how they are an illegitimate business and that he has more knowledge on the required diet of budgies. We explained to him that we had done our own research on what the dietary needs of budgies but he simply discredited everything we had said by screaming and repeatedly threatening to cancel our order if we didn't purchase the food he had chosen from his store. We just wanted to buy the 50 dollar bag of food that he was imposing on us and leave at that point. I will never step foot in this terrible store again. He will undoubtedly reply to this review preaching his "care for pets" none-sense, but beware that these owners have no sense of respect for customers and only use this excuse to feed their money-hungry ideals.

Bad return policy. The store clerk at the time of purchase gave us every item possible for 2 Turtles... when we realized alot was not needed they refused the return. We had the receipt and product still in original package. The store clerk was very unhelpful... and will not even consider an exchange. Will not return.

Interesting layout, cash was up front and all of the items stored in tiny aisles. Lots of good items in there for fish (water conditioners, medications, rock and driftwood) as well as bulk-style food for small animals. Not too much going on in the fishroom- some mollies, platties and guppies as well as goldfish. Nothing too crazy. Couple plecos. Tanks were all bare-bottom. Pretty apple snail also.

UPDATED: Recently went by to purchase a starter fish tank with supplies and fish. The young woman named Sid (sp?) was SUPER helpful and very knowledgeable and even helping not buy too much to ensure that the fish settled in nicely. Conversely, today I spoke with a gentleman on the phone an it was like PULLING TEETH to try and get information from him including prices and quantities of fish food advice from him. Its a good local store by I'm going to avoid speaking to such a person again. Its terrible just to try and get some professional advice from him as it was night and day to the fantastic help I got from Sid. ***************************** Such a small store packed with goods and supplies! I am so happy I found this place. This isn't your usual car and dog food store and its nestled in the middle of a strip mall between Canada Computers and the Beer Store. This place has so much of what you really need for every other type of pet. Spiders, lizards, hamsters and birds of all types AND a decent selection of fish for aquarium enthusiasts. Decent supplies, equipment and tanks as well as special lights and premium equipment that you normally don't find. This is not your run of the mill pet franchise. The owner is nice and even her kids are pleasant to deal with. Worth checking out if you are a pet enthusiast and looking for more. Parking is very much available and this store is accessible off Appleby or the No.12 bus.

There are certain items that cost more than big box stores, but the quality is much better and there are many unique finds that I haven't been able to get anywhere else. Wouldn’t allow me to purchase a turtle unless I purchase the entire kit from them. I already have the proper set up because I already have a turtle identical to the one I was purchasing. I inquired over the phone due to the distance I had to travel and they said they had them for $35 each they never said “Yes but only if you purchase one and the tank with all the accessories together” complete waist of time.

The first time i went in i didn't feel so welcome. I wasn't greeted i wanted to see the rats but couldn't touch them. i wish the owner had a bit more trust. i understand it may have been busy. it super important for me to temperament test rats before buying. i have owned them for over 14 years. and want to make sure they are friendly. the store was very organized and clean! the Macaws were noisy but only because people where talking to them and praising the squatting behavior when they should have ignored them. fast forward to today we entered the store the very young lady was helping a family with a hamster and right after they left she helped my friends and i right away. i brought home my rat. (named her Juno) im 100% positive shes pregnant but thats fine as im educated on them. ill have 3 litters all close together. i just have a few pointers. rats are fully weaned at 4-5 weeks and should be separated by genders at that age. im more then willing to help and show how to identify that.i think the babies my friend got a just a bit to early to leave . im not scolding the shop not everyone is perfect and knows everything. we should work together as a community and not against each other. there is always room for improvements. other then this the store is outstanding. if you have any questions about rodents im more then happy to help i have worked with many types of animals. also worked with a baboon !

We picked up our baby Congo African grey from Pet o pets today. Very friendly and knowledgeable. You can tell he has been educated for the birds and is not a salesperson trying to just make money. I went to this store a few months ago looking for aquatic plants, which they did have. But the other animals were in such small cages and there was no adult that we could see present, just two young kids who were extremely shy. It was awkward and seemed questionable. I wouldn't go back.

READ THIS!!! This store is dirty, smells really bad. The animals aren't clean, they all smell, they don't have food or water. My friend bought a cat from this store same day, cat came extremely sick with eye herpes, owner refused to give my friend any document of the cat. My friend went back to the store because his cat is extremely sick and has to have his eye removed, the owner called the cops on him. Theres a facebook page already with pictures of the sick cats and many other customers are coming forward. I have posted a pic of the sick cat on his google page.

I wish I knew this place existed before I had bought my lovebird from another store. The birds are all hand raised and seem very friendly, they were all approaching the cage when I went to them. I came in just as they opened and the pet room seemed as clean as you would expect with the amount of animals being left alone overnight. There was seed in front of the cages, but it did not smell. On my previous visit I was there later in the day and it was very clean. I assume I have dealt with the owner's daughter on both my visits. She is very friendly and helpful. She was very apologetic about the room being "messy", but like I said the birds had been left overnight. My birds make a mess while I am at work and I only have two - I can only imagine how much a mess the amount they have make. If you are in the market for a bird I'd highly recommend purchasing from this store.

The variety of products they have is astounding! Really appreciate the nice spacious habitats for the animals and the creativity in some of custom beautiful reptile habitats. They hand moulded the habitats to suit the animals needs, I don’t understand how anyone could undermine their expertise in this area! So my mom and I decided to spend the day by going to check out some pet stores in the GTA area. As we run a Rescue called M&M Exotic pet and Avian Rescue/Sanctuary (on Facebook, website to come) in Hannon. And we were lucky enough to come across Pet O Pets. We first checked out their Mississauga location and were so impressed by the attention and care taken by the facility that we decided to make the drive to their Burlington location as well. And we were not disappointed. It is extremely well kept and clean. The birds they have appear healthy, happy, and super friendly. This family owned business is a for sure 10/10 in our books. They make sure to provide customers with the necessary knowledge and requirements expected when adopting a little furry or feathered family member. But what got me the most was when the gentleman whom was walking through the faculty with us answering any and all questions we asked said “These aren’t just animals you purchase, these are cherished pets that deserve attention, care, and proper nutrition” and we couldn’t agree more! Keep doing what you are doing! We will be back soon!

Flawless! I really appreciate the measures they have in place to reduce COVID-19 transmission and the animals truly look happy in their environments. I for one wouldn’t pay heed to the negative reviews listed as you can see they have childish negativity that has no correlation to the actual experience this family owned business gives its customers. Edited: changing my review from a 5 star to a 1 star. Go to this shop often and spend a lot of money here. I went in to get some guinea pig supplies, they recommended a litter box and litter. I bought both things they recommended and some extras. They said I could return the litter box if it didn't fit my cage. I went home, filled it with new litter and put it in the cage but my guinea pig couldn't fit in it. I went and tried to return it (never used and with tags on it a) and they said I can't because it had tiny little scratches from where the litter sat on it. So at the end of the day they sold me the wrong product and wouldn't return it. I also didn't even bother try refunding the litter because it was opened. I was also trying exchange a $12 pan offering to pay the extra for the $22 pan... So they would have still been making profit. Plus in my opinion even if it was scratched they should have returned it because they sold me the wrong size in the first place Original review: Great selection of birds and bird products. In all honesty, this is the best pet store I have ever visited. it's clean, organized and the owners are very helpful, kind and knowledgeable. The animals look healthy and are kept in great condition! I highly recommend this store!

Pushy man in the front who was "helping" me. My toddler was crying and I asked to walk around to help her calm down. He ignored my question and was very short in his responses, seemed impatient, and the fact that he was getting closer to us made my little one even more upset and anxious. So I had to leave ASAP, without getting anything. Maybe it's COVID making him tense and odd, maybe he's just that way. Unpleasant experience.

Went in the store today. Waited outside for 10 minutes because of COVID protocol but when I went in the store there was still 8 people inside a very small store. I never felt welcomed in the store since I step foot in. The lady kept mentioning to order online and not visit the store. You have paying customers coming in, maybe treat them with respect and if your going to have protocols for COVID I would make them a lot less people in the store for the size and space of store and the distance you can keep from one another. Would rather go to PetSmart with better customer service and feel welcomed in the store and not just an inconvenience to the employee.

We really enjoyed our visit to pet o pets. They are very informative and helpful. You can call if you have any questions and they go through everything step by step and they make sure you understand every thing that their telling you. Visited on Sunday and the owner was incredible. My 5 year old loves bunnies but sadly we cannot have one due to my husband's allergies. She took out the baby bunnies and allowed my daughter to hold them and play with them. She was so helpful and invited us back any time. Talk about customer service! Highly recommend!

I bought those two newborn guinea pigs 2 months ago and they’re so super cute! They look like 16 weeks old and they’re so tiny. Compared to the ones at petsmart they’re much older like 6 months old and they’re bigger. But it’s always good to have them as babies for beginners and experience with them as they’re growing and let them get use to their new owner. Especially I never had a newborn guinea pigs before that are so young and small. They’re very happy and healthy! The sale lady at that pet store she’s friendly, knowledgeable, kind and helpful! I would definitely recommend this pet store if you’re looking for livestock for beginners! Thank you so very much!

When finally opened, a salesgirl said you need to order "on-line" and product will be given at door. Really? I have to order a pet on-line? Not a good first impression, was very sketchy.

OMG WHAT A NIGHTMARE. I had to wait outside due to covid which is OK, and while I was waiting a man came and also started to wait... after waiting with him for a few minutes he asked me if I had shopped here before and I said no. I thought it was kind of weird he asked but we just stood again silently for a few more minutes. He then said he doesn't think they will come to the door right now. I was then told the store owner promised a refund of vet bills because they sold him a $2,000 hairless cat that had HERPS LOL I didn't even know that was possible. So I ring again. He said they are in there because you can see them... I went up to verify and there were 2 adults indeed in the store. The people then quickly open the door when they realize we can see them!! embarrassing So I go in and creep in the back to get the juicey details of what was going on, and to get my cage. The man starts talking with the owner (Im assuming). Started off as a regular conversation, the owner confirmed the vet bills to be refunded and entered into a machine to start processing refund. This is where it got more interesting. The owner exclaimed after looking at the machine, that it could not be refunded on the visa debit he originally paid with and he would need to find a credit card to use instead (sounds sketchy). He said he didn't have a credit card on him, and the owner basically said tough luck. The man starts getting agitated and looks at me and says great, your watching me being scammed! The guy keeps saying how he just wants the refund of the agreed upon bills and that the vet was worried for the kittens in care at this establishment. The owner then just threatens to call the cops on the guy for no stated reasons. Man says go ahead. So cops are coming and I peace out of the store. Cops show up, While I'm outside I hear the cops speaking to the guy saying that he is prohibited from contacting petopets/ going onto location so he can't go back to the store to get a refund.... So basically he need to get a lawyer and take him to civil court. PETOPETS ! I ALSO HEARD YOU CONFIRMING THE REFUND OF THIS SICK CATS INITIAL TREATMENT!!! ANOTHER LONG LOST PETOPETS FRIEND

Really nice little pet shop that has many little pets to look at in the back. Kids loved exploring and seeing all the animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, lizards, many varieties of fish and some turtles. Space inside is really maximized to have a wide variety of pet products for a huge variety of needs. Happy to support a little shop over a big chain too. Friendly knowledgeable service as well. Bought our pet rabbit here and she is wonderful, well socialized and energetic. Came back for the kids to get her a Christmas gift! Will be back.

Another issue was when I asked for a price on an item she said she didn't have one and walked away... Like how does that even work? The only pet store I can find in Burlington area so far that carries a variety of hamsters (even during the pandemic). All hamsters are nice looking, cute and friendly. The extrusion hamster food they recommend is an amazing life saver. The only thing is that I wasn’t able to find the paper based bedding I wanted at the time when I visited but other types of bedding work fine anyways.

I’ve been a long time customer of the Mississauga store and I honestly love this store even more. The pet village is so different than any other pet store that I’ve ever been to, I especially love the variety of fish and birds they have here, I always get all my fish from this store despite it being out of my way. The staff always surprise me with how much knowledge they have on all the animals and they always offer advice based on their own personal experiences and that of their previous customers rather than the generic stuff you hear at other stores. And they always take time with customers which I always appreciate. Always happy coming here and will continue to support this family business for as long as I can!

Absolutely disgusting place, if you are looking the buy/adopt any animal PLEASE do not go here if you actually care about the lively hood of any animal. The place is so gross, there are cockroaches near the bird cages and inside. All of the budgies are put together in tiny cages with no toys or stimulation, they are all Sick (tail bobbing) and their water is dirty. Parakeets are extremely particular on the water they drink and do not like it being dirty so I wouldn’t be surprised if all of them are dehydrated as well. I went into the back for employees only and they have boxes of rats cramped together with no space at all, and there were at least a dozen boxes of them. And Then they have a giant pen of conures that fly around hopelessly without any toy in sight. These people taking care of them have absolutely no qualifications and this should be illegal. DO NOT BUY HERE

The family who owns this store is very nice, however I am not a fan of how the animals (specifically all the birds) are kept. I live in the area and used to work in the pet industry for over a decade, with most of my focus spent on birds dogs and small animals. So with the birds-are their cages clean, yes but PLEASE put some toys in for the birds- even the large scarlet macaws have only one toy- it is not enough! Also, there are too many conures in one space (especially since they have no toys to play with). I have asked why there aren’t any toys in the cage and the response was that the birds don’t stay long enough- I know for a fact that a lot of the conures have been there for months. Birds are intelligent and need to stay occupied- and not by pulling out each others feathers because they have nothing else to do. There isn’t a huge bird market in Burlington so I would strongly suggest not having so many small parrots- maybe your other store in Mississauga would move them quicker? One time my daughter asked to hold one of the bunnies and she was told by the assistant manager that she couldn’t because she would give the bunny “germs”- I understand kids asking to hold animals all the time is annoying but just say something like “not right now” and not a bold face lie- it’s better the animals be socialized. Anyways, very nice family but please start taking care of your birds.

I had an amazing experience at this pet store with a recent purchase of a baby Conure. The staff and Sonia were very nice, helpful, and knowledgeable - Sonia provided me with a ton of useful information as well as some training for raising/feeding a baby parrot. The baby Conure is joyful and getting comfortable with it's new family very well :)

Horrible place, dont go there! They sold me a uromastyx and told me it was ten months old but after researching more found out he is more likely to be 3 to 5 years old as he is already at maximum length. They were also feeding it crickets and bearded dragon pellets and tried to tell me to do the same. Also after more inspection he had noticeable tail damage, and was probably never handled because he is extremely flighty. I currently purchased a second uromastyx of the same kind who was captive bread and supposed to be the same age and is friendly and could fit in his tail for size comparison. Very disappointed in the experience and will never go then again for anything.

Called at 12pm and was told they had turtles for sale for $35 we drove an hour and a half to get there and the owner told me I could only have a turtle if I bought the entire kit DESPITE ME TELLING HER I ALREADY HAVE ONE!! They should have told us over the phone if there was “conditions” for purchasing a turtle. Will not be returning.
