We went here for breakfast on Mothers Day and thought we were very lucky because there was no lines. The inside was beautiful and clean. It's too bad the rest of my review is so negative because with better service this location could be great! We arrive at nearly 10:20am and sat down at a table beside the door. We weren't acknowledged for at least 15 minutes when they finally came and took our order at 10:37am. We ordered one tea, 4 coffees and a water. About 25 minutes later we flagged down a waitress to ask for a refill of the tea (which only filled half the mug due to the tiny teapots). When they came with the refill they also refilled the coffees - without asking first - and when they came to the fourth cup they finished the coffee which didn't even refill up half of the mug and never came back to give an actual refill. I watched a table get more and more angry before leaving so at least one other table was having this problem. I watched as two separate tables each got one of their ordered dishes and the people they came with had to watch them eat for more than 5 minutes before the second plate came out. I watched a server behind the counter blow his nose, throw out the tissue and then rub his nose with his bare finger. I watched as four staff members stood behind the counter pointing at the computer, us and other customers while whispering frantically. At 50 minutes or so we asked how long we could expect the food to take and were dismissed with "one more minute". When we asked again we were dismissed "one more minute". Then we found out our food hadn't yet been started. A person my father-in-law was talking to walked away from him while he was speaking - it was very clear they didn't respect us as customers. It was a full hour before we decided to leave and make breakfast ourselves at home. This was SO disappointing because it is a beautiful space but this will never make up for terrible service. I have NEVER seen such disregard for customers when the wait is longer. One waitress apologized - the only waitress (blond with ponytail) who seemed to know what customer service is - but this could not make up for the disrespect showed by the other staff members. I will never go back. Mothers day is the only holiday that breakfast/brunch is going to be extremely busy. I guess there was a reason we didn't wait in line. It's too bad I never got to try the food because those reviews seem pretty okay.

My friend and I try to meet at least every month and a half or so for lunch. We always seem to gravitate to this restaurant. We order the halibut lunch special. A delicately battered piece of halibut and a good amount of hand cut french fries with a side of coleslaw. This dish never disappoints. I also love the atmosphere here. The staff never seem to mind that we'll sit and catch up with each other, sometimes up to almost two hours. They just smile at us and ask if we'd like refills of coffee. I recommend this restaurant for it's food and it's atmosphere.

Best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time! My new go-to spot in Burlington. Fish portions are definitely on the thinner side but they are large. We always go for the Halibut. The batter is delicious - light and crispy, not thick and full of grease. The fries are hand cut with nothing added to them - a bonus for me because I like to lightly salt them at home and pair with ketchup. The man in charge of facilitating take-out orders (on the phone and upon pickup) couldn’t have been more kind. They are doing a great job. 5 stars!

After placing a Pickup order through Skip the Dishes on Wed May 9th @ 2:13pm I was asked by Natalia what my order number was .I told her my name, & said I'm not sure of the order #, she said she couldn't give me my food or refund without my order #. I asked HOW MANY ORDERS DO YOU HAVE FOR SKIP THE DISHES OR ANYWHERE RIGHT NOW?? (The Dining Room was empty as well) She said normally A LOT . She then said, just give me the Last 2 numbers of your order # then....I said to her, as I told you already, I do Not have the order # Natalia, I pulled up the order history on my phone & could Not figure out where to get this information from. She then began to laugh, and said in a mocking tone... " Sir, your supposed to wait at home for your order from skip the dishes" I then told told her I wasn't a idiot, and to stop being condesending to me, that I Know how to use the app and I selected pickup as it says on the ONLY ORDER YOU HAVE BACK THERE AND AS IT SAYS ON MY PHONE. My food is paid for and I just want it please. I could see if there were ANY other orders in or even another customer in the place .....all that for undercooked fish and chips. Only the top side of the haddock was battered and chips were soggy and undercooked too!! Avoid at All costs!!!

Great first time experience at this restaurant. We'd just left Silvercity Burlington theatres and this was our choice of many restaurants and cafes in the same plaza. Friendly, polite and helpful staff. Delicious fish, seafood, chicken and burgers all sampled by our table. The seafood platter comes with fries, salad, scallops, calamari, dipping sauces and your choice of halibut, haddock, cod or pollock. We opted for the halibut which was perfectly battered, not greasy or heavy tasting. Their seafood platter is large enough to share. Hot food is served hot and well presented. Very fresh salad. Pleasant surroundings with wave lighting overhead, contemporary feeling with some traditional fish n' chips decorative items create a cosy space. Very clean restaurant. Convenient parking, dine in or carry out available.

This was my first experience with Halibut N Malt Fish and Chips.. I ordered Halibut and Chips and order if mushy peas. The mushy peas were delicious, but the Halibut and Chips were terrible. The batter on the Fish was a weird orange colour and was not consistent across the fish, the fish it’s self was tough and tasteless.. The chips were fairly thin, not what I expect with fish and chips. The service was good, but I won’t be going back, there are many good Fish and Chip shop in Burlington..

Have been to this restaurant many times for lunch, and the fish and scallops are very good, very fresh, and the deep fry is golden brown, not heavy or overpowering. Came today for breakfast for the first time ... amazing ... one of the best breakfast meals we've ever had! Good portions, again, cooked perfectly. Omelette was cooked so even, ingredients were spread out well. Even little details, such as the toast being buttered inward. And the staff are among the friendliest we've encountered. Fantastic meal, will come again, highly recommended!

My daughter and I tried the new fish n chips on the block and weren't disappointed. The clam chowder was also a great delicious surprise. I was looking for something refreshing drink and had a glass of the lemonade which was amazing. Only side note was fries must have been put in cold oil as they were tasty but very bland in colour...hope they get this issue taken care of for our next visit!

The decor is nice. Our waitress proceeded to tell us that she works for a real restaurant in the evening. I guess this is not one at all. Based on the food, perhaps she is right. We both tried the seafood chowder, which after a few spoonful, we had to stop eating. Mine had no clams or fish, just potatoes and a gross consistency. I love real chowder. The lunch size dish of halibut and chips had a wierd aftertaste. Will never return. Not sure why this is so highly rated!

This is the 2nd time we have had the fish & chip special and once again we are not disappointed. Suzanne is very friendly so the service is excellent brought right out to your car. I can tell you the fish and chips are delicious. Portions are huge freshly battered fish and fresh cut chips served with all the condiments. It's our first time in this place. We didn't plan it. A nice ambience, clean and a friendly server. We ordered the lunch special which is haddock and chips. Instead of having french fries I swapped it to sweet potatoes. Their food is great. The fish breading is not that thick, which is good. Gravy is tasty. Sweet potato is freshly made. Coleslaw taste so good not like others. Since I am from out of town, I will still come and visit this place. I recommend this for everyone to visit and try their food.

This meal was great! The pieces of fish were thin but large. We shared a two piece halibut with fries. It was the perfect portion for two people. The batter was light and crispy and didn’t make you feel sick from grease. The fries were like chip truck fries! The service was friendly and the food came out quickly. I also enjoyed that they have vinegar coleslaw not creamy coleslaw. The restaurant is very clean and decorated nicely:)! We will definitely be back.

Went for lunch, we had the halibut with chips and halibut with greek salad. The food was excellent, fish was tasty and crisp, fries perfect and greek salad large and fresh ingredients. The decor here is very cosy and the the tables large and roomy...one of the best restaurants in the area for a comfortable dine -in experience, in my opinion. The service was fast, the server pleasant and the cook in the kitchen also bid us goodbye when we left. Overall, for our first experience here, top rate, and we will definitely be back.

My boyfriend and I love fish and chips. This place is literally a 5 minute drive from home, but would have no problem driving 20 minutes to eat here. I don't know where the bad reviews about their food is coming from. We sometimes come for breakfast and sometimes for the fish and chips. The fish batter is never oily or too thick. The fish itself is always a great portion, fries are fresh, could use a bit more seasoning on them, but that's what salt shakers are for. I've ordered the seafood chowder a few times as well, it's more of a broth based as opposed to a cream based, but still quite tasty. Our only complaint is sometimes the wait. The owners are very friendly and genuinely care about your experience, but sometimes waiting to have your order taken and pay the bill takes longer than it should. It would be nice to have refills of coffee offered more, but once the food order is placed, it arrives at our table within 15 minutes. Overall, a great place to eat.

The grossest place I've ever eaten! I have the clam chowder and it was like a green colour and it giggled like a smile the texture and taste was disgusting. I also had a cheese burger witch was rubbery, the cheese on it didn't melt and my bun was cold and damp. My brother had fish and chips. When you bit into the fish it was a puddle of oil in your mouth. I will never be coming here again! Oh and the staff I think the owner was sitting around yelling with her friends witch was very annoying! My waitress with blond hair was very very nice though I liked her a lot! I felt bad for her she was being bossed around.

Trust some of the lower ratings, 1 star for the price given the size, flavor and cook of the fish and chips. The halibut was the same price as halibut fish and chips but ~2/3rd of the size. They give you TONS of fries but unfortunately pretty mediocre, not inedible but disappointing. Fish was thin and dry, fries were soggy and both flavorless past the oil. Halibut fish and chips is better if you're trying to decide between. I'll always miss Dave and Nancy's, wish burlington knew something good when they had it.

1st time here.. fresh fish fried with a crisp but non oily batter. You can eat here and still feel relatively clean after. British traits in their food. Food isn't over fried like American fish and chips .. must get mushy peas, well seasoned and a nice side to have with fish. Halibut is all you'll need and for me.. 1 piece combo is enough food for me. Fries are kept basic.. condiments on the side for you to self flavour with high quality malt vinegar. Way better than what I thought it was from the outside.

Decor is beautifully done, lots of room. Fish is light and crispy, does not leave oily residue. French fries are golden crispy outside and soft inside, homemade tarter sauce is in a squeeze bottle making it easier to apply to the fish. GREAT Fish!!! We keep ordering the haddock, because it's almost as good as the halibut. Great prices for lunch through the week! 7.99 for fish and chips (haddock) between 11-2. You can sub out your chips, for a salad for 1.00 more for garden or 2.00 more for caesar. The salad they give you is a very good size! It's basically half a dinner plate. Very fast every time too. We order and our food is out within 10 mins. They also have breakfast specials, 9.99 for 2 meals plus coffee / tea. Haven't tried it yet, but planning to.

I’ve been here quite a few times since I discovered this restaurant, I really like it! Customer service has been really great here. Servers are always quick and friendly. Fish and Chips are excellent. Perfectly flaky fish with thin but very crispy batter coating. For tarter sauce lovers, it comes in a BOTTLE ???? I also like that they offer a “lunch” sized portion all day because I normally can't finish a full plate of anything. I have also eaten at every Fish n' Chips place in Burlington and have had Duckworth's about 100 times in my life, so I know good Fish n Chips! For their clam chowder, the price is decent and the flavour is good, but it could use some minor improvements. It had a little too much cornstarch and it wasn't incorporated properly. Their breakfast is also really good and affordable. Again, I like their portion control options so I get a $4.25 1 egg breakfast which is unheard of in Burlington, the same kids breakfast is only $3.99. My husband usually opts for the standard 3 egg breakfast or gets the $9.99 breakfast special. Their pancakes are also yummy, big and fluffy. Overall I really enjoy this place and the economical pricing is comforting in Burlington where a lot of things can sometimes be over priced. There are some minor things that could be improved but because they're a new restaurant but they're off to a good start.

Terrible service - waited 20 minutes before we got up and left because no one came to take our drink order. They brought us the menu and then never came back and we watched as they served newer customers. We kept making eye contact with the server and put our menus on the edge of the table and he just kept staring at us and wouldnt come over to serve us. First time there and will never go back. 0 stars if i could. I have never walked out of a restaurant before today. Do not go here they waste your time and clearly do not care about their customers.

Went in with our 2 kids to have family meal. The only reason why I'm giving it a 2 btis because the waitress was great. Fish and chips were ok nothing that stands out. My wife had a burger and it was terrible, plain, and greasy PC burger. The waitress was kind and took it back. She got us a new one, but it came back the same way. Will never go back.

Fresh fish not a pre-made factory product. Authentic french fries and coleslaw that is fresh not frozen. If you are an English style fish n chips fan you can't go wrong here.

The flavours were not great, batter was underseasoned. Chips were soggy and the fish was very greasy. It was quite busy and I understand the need to get the food out the door but quality suffers when you're rushing orders out. The fryer temperature was likely the reason for the greasy fish and soggy fries. It should have been hotter to avoid that issue. (Worked as a fry cook for many years) Either turn up the temperature or let the food cook longer. Because the way it was served to me was pretty bad.

Found this new place today and we will definitely be back. Terrific decor, especially the tables. Lots of seating. We stopped in at 3 p.m., so we were almost the only ones there. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Best of all were the Halibut and Chips. Light, crisp batter, done perfectly. Fries were great and the food was hot and tasty. My friend had the battered clams, and was very impressed. The restaurant is a bit hard to spot; near Michael's and Cineplex. Lots of free parking. I really hope this new restaurant does well.

What absolutely lovely staff. I went with my grandmother who needs some assistance and they were very quick to open doors for her and make sure she was comfortable. I also saw them do this for several other people as well. Very attentive and just overall pleasant people! Really quick service and the fish and chips are excellent. And you can't beat the price!

A detailed but honest review: Our first visit. Impressed with the atmosphere when arrived. Ordered blooming onion (good but under seasoned), halibut and chips (very good but fries not seasoned at all) and 2 banquet burgs. Both burgs where of poor quality and slightly under cooked. They offered to provide fresh meals. We said just cook the burgs more but one meal was redone and the fries came back under cooked. Tar tar sauce looked like straight mayo. Even the waitress though it was mayo and said no, this is the tar tar. For this we were reimbursed $2.20. If you're going to reimburse a customer, reimburse the cost of one meal or at least an appetizer.

Stopped in for lunch.. got the haddock special.. halibut lunch.. bfast special for two (waffle n western bfast sandwich) n seafood chowder... Given the low prices my expectation were low.. but I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food.. all the fish seemed quite fresh n batter was nice n light... I appreciate tartar sauce in a squeeze bottle rather than getting a small portion on the side (I like my tartar sauce)..Fries were fair (soak up all the tartar sauce -- did I say I like my tartar sauce?) .. i upgraded one meal with sweet potato fries and they were well done.. my son enjoyed them .. waffle seemed made to order n it came with some very smooth creamy butter.. western sandwich was also very nicely done.. seafood soup had a strong fishy flavour.. so I can see that turning off lots of folk.. The restaurant seemed very under staff and swamped.. slow to clean tables.. I grabbed my own menu, utensils n some of the condiments.. a bit slow on the coffee refills.. I didn't mind this very much as long as the food is on point but I could see how this can annoy folks and how it could eventually lead to some food inconsistencies.. At the end of the day all I could say was my meal was great n I definitely drop in again if in the area ...

First time and last time! The halibut was over cooked and the fries were under cooked. Gave us a stomachache! On top of that, our order seemed like it was all fries as they give you lots and lots and lots of it!! And a tiny little portion of coleslaw. We called to voice our concerns to the owner but the lady on the phone said she wasn’t sure when the owner will be back. Very strange!! She offered us a free order of coleslaw instead. Saw an ad that they had breakfast for two for $9.99 and figured that sounds like a great deal so my wife and I went. Here's my review. The inside is quite nice. We arrived and sat down, took 15 - 20 minutes for someone to come bring us menus, only after asking for them. Then 10 more minutes to take order. Here's the worst part, food didn't arrive for another 40 minutes. So basically we sat for an hour with no food, we did get one cup of coffee, no refills. The only two reasons we didn't leave was my wife is diabetic and took a shot of insulin figuring food would be out shortly. Had she not, we would have up and left. As we were there we saw two other tables up and leave and a third still hadn't been served food. I say this in all honesty, I've never been to a place with as bad service in all my life, and I've been to lots of restaurants. I really feel bad for the servers because everyone was complaining and there is no way anyone would have left them a tip. We didn't. The food itself was not bad. My wife said here Western Sandwich was good. My omelete only came with 3 eggs, no cheese or anything inside and it's flat like a pancake. They should really call it three eggs done like a pancake. The rye bread and butter was good. And the 6 home fries on my plate wasn't bad. I definitely won't be back which is unfortunate as the place looks good but you can tell no one knows how to run a restuarant and I can see why the prices are so low. You get what you pay for.

Had a meal here this evening. Was heading to my normal fish and chip place to realize it was closed-far to early in my opinion. But Halibut N’ Malt saved the day and was open until 9pm. It was a pleasant surprise, food was excellent! Very nice portions sizes and yummy Haddock! A nice thin and crispy batter, just how I like it ????????. It had a rustic decor, loved tables and style.
