It's okay! The waitress was amazing, location is good. The halibut was good, the poutine had undercooked fries, powdered gravy & shredded cheese :( the coleslaw I won't mention. & The tartar sauce was not made in house or with love. But all in all the service was amazing & the place was clean, the good was edible & we may be back!

It's disappointing when the customer shows what they want, only to be met with fast talking questions after questions regarding the meals. Who is the paying person, the customer or the employee? This type of hurried exchange usually ends up on the wrong side of customer satisfaction. $73 and no slices of lemons or homemade tatar sauce like requested.. Before and after receiving the meals. Next time, I'd emplore the employee to listen rather than speculate, assume and guess what the paying customer wants.

So I'm torn, as I've been here a few times, eat-in and takeout. It's all over the place though in terms of quality. Eating in is your best bet as you can get replacement food on the spot. I recently ordered takeout though and everything was very overcooked. It tasted like reheated fries and old fish to be honest. I'd go again but never for takeout.

Our halibut dinners were delicious and the service was fast and friendly. . The portions were generous and I loved that the dressing was on the side for the Greek salad even though we forgot to request it. We'll be back for sure.

This is the best fish and chip place in Burlington !! We had the halibut and chips and they were absolutely delicious! They are a great size and come with a lot of tasty fries. The coleslaw was so good too! It's a creamy slaw that's perfectly dressed and goes great with the fish and chips. The food was so good that we ate it all so quick and forgot to take pictures. Enjoy!

The people that were staffing the counter were very friendly and enguaged us in casual friendly conversation. The takeout order of 2 plus 1 haddock and chips was prepared fresh and was delicious. The gravy side order was ample and tasty. As a native Burlington resident I would choose this over all other fish and chips restaurants in the city...especially Hutches! Plenty of convenient parking. Reasonable pricing for the ample portion size. Definitely scratched our itch for delicious fish and chips

Update: Went to try the breakfast meal. The home fries was great. The omelette was decent but what made me change my rating was the burnt toast. I just don’t understand why do they need to serve a burnt toast and present it in a way that you will not notice it the first time. Just a bit disappointed. However, I’m still giving them 4 stars because the staff are very friendly specially the 2 ladies who are getting the orders. Huge serving, fresh, and budget friendly meal!????????????????

Tried to use this place for breakfast... I like the home fries and the eggs are reasonable, even though they come hard over no matter how I've asked for them.... I've given them now 3 chances to produce a cooked pancake and they have failed... sent the first one back because of raw batter and received a second one which was way less cooked... take it off the menu if you don't want to bother... nobody is asking you to offer basic breakfast food if you don't want to make it... I was planning to eat breakfast here all month while I finish a large construction job, but will be finding another place which can cook pancakes and eggs well.... had a fish and chips one time a few months ago and for $17 and double deep fried to reheat it I figured they were maybe better at breakfast.... I was mistaken... brought up this problem as I was paying and was charged 20 bucks for some raw pancakes.... 8.99 special ( on menu) plus a glass of milk and a coffee comes to 20.96... what in the hell? Cook did not care...

Sunday and Monday special is tough to beat. $7 for haddock and fries that neither wife or I could finish. The fish was lightly battered and cooked perfectly. The chips were fresh cut and cooked crispy enough that vinegar did not turn them to mush. Very good service as well.

I always get the breakfast special when I come here, and it's always a good price for what you get. $3.49 (plus tax) gets you an egg, your choice of bacon, sausage or ham, home fries and buttered toast. Depending on who's working at the time, the fries might be a little under-done and under-seasoned. The only other thing I could fault them on is the sad little egg I got this morning (see photo).

We decided ‘just for the Halibut’ to try this restaurant for lunch - what a pleasant surprise! We all had their Halibut fish & chips! The service was prompt and courteous, the food was tasty and the ‘price was right’ - so COME ON DOWN! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!) At the entrance, there is a poster of a 2018 award for best restaurant given by Halton Regions, it didn’t disappoint! We all thought the decor looked fishy, but I guess that makes sense! :)

Normally I eat pretty healthy, but during Covid lockdown felt like something different. Placed a dinner take out order for Halibut and chips, with a side coleslaw for two, picked it up at the Walkers line and Dundas location in Burlington. This location looked clean, and once everything is open again, inviting enough to dine in. I was pleasantly surprised once I got home to find a nice lightly battered large piece of Halibut with a generous amount of thick cut fries or “chips”. Normally fish comes heavily battered and greasy, this one I felt was lighter and healthier ( as healthy as fried fish can be) Lots of chips, they were good, left plain for you to season or add vinegar, so large a portion I couldn’t finish them all so my dog was happy to help! Overall a great dinner that I will definitely get again, great portion size, good price ($15.95) light batter. ...... oh by the way, for cheesecake lovers they do have Cheesecake Factory slices for dessert!

Not good and service is horrible and slow and their portions are pathetic especially the coleslaw that you pay for and if you want more they make you pay for it. They only give you a size of a nickel portion which is equal to one forkful and you are done. I would not recommend it to anyone. Find some where else and save yourself some money.

Halibut House is really three restaurants rolled into one: a fish & chips restaurant, an all-day breakfast joint, which unlike the other breakfast place in this plaza, is actually open all day, and a souvlaki and gyros shop. The place itself is very simply decorated, with booths, freestanding tables, and bench seats, all packed closely together. Between the ceramic floor and tiled walls, the place is fairly noisy. I measured 63 dB(A), which is louder than a typical diner. Conversation is possible, but requires some effort. The fact that the dirty dishes are loudly piled up right next to the dining area doesn't help matters. The westward facing windows offer bright natural light at the front of the restaurant, but the back is darker. The windows also offer a fair amount of heat in the summer, which the restaurant's air conditioning struggles to keep up with. When we were there, the place was around 25-26C (77-79F), warmer than most diners would like it. Cleanliness is also an issue. I think the condiment holders haven't been washed since the Mulroney administration. Just kidding! The place has been open for less than two years. The food is good, although it doesn't quite measure up to some of their other locations. Service is efficient, but the kitchen can be slow during peak dinner hours. Beer selection is better than you'd expect from a chippy: a handful of domestics and imports are available in bottles, including Guinness. Prices vary; the breakfast menu offers some decent bargains, with full meals from $3.50 for the basic to $11 for the artery-clogging Grand Slam Combo. The fish and chips menu isn't cheap. Plaza parking is ample, but as of August 2018, you'd be well advised to stay away from the construction zone near the entrance. Just ordered through Skip the Dishes and it arrived within 30 minutes which I thought was REALLY fast. When it arrived the batter was super crispy but there COLD spots on it and the only way that could happen is if they are precooking the fish and then just heating up in the oil. The halibut was also wayyy overcooked. No ketchup in the bag and I didn’t think I had to ask for ketchup with fish and chips? Won’t be ordering again.

The halibut has consistently been fresh and flaky, and the fries are probably the best of their kind in town, slightly crispy on the outside and nice and potato-y on the inside. Over the past few years, we would order from this place once a month; the meal was always good and came with a healthy portion of fries and fish for the price point. A nice spot for a quick meal on a busy day. We recently decided to order our first meal under the new management and they seem to be very friendly and flexible. We ordered a couple orders of halibut and chips and it was slightly disappointing overall. The batter itself was quite sticky, almost feeling underdone or that the oil wasn't hot enough to crisp the outer layer to get that satisfying crunch. The fish itself was very tough. We were expecting the typical soft flaky portion that is easily cut by a knife, however both portions had to be sawed apart with a knife to carve out a bite size portion. Lastly, the fries were generous but were underwhelming as they didn't have either the thick-cut bite or the crisp and salty texture you would expect from fries. They were inbetween those two worlds which didn't quite satisfy either expectation. I am hopeful that this was merely a bad batch of fish or a rare occurrence of faulty preparation and have high hopes for the next time we order, but it was a disappointing meal.

Website tells you it comes with Greek salad and your choice of side. I walked out of the store to my car double checking and realized no salad. Went back inside and the waitress apologized and told the kitchen staff who told her does not come with salad. I told kitchen staff to look at menu. They didn't even apologize after preparing it for me as other customers were watching. I felt terrible for the waitress who was taking the blame when it was not her fault. The kitchen staff should of taken care of it. Also would not recommend the chicken soulvaki dinner. Chicken was tough to chew and not enough chicken. Box was filled with mostly rice. Salad was good though. I would recommend the halibut and chips definitely just not the chicken.

I waited at this located for 20 minutes just standing there, I was the only one there waiting to be seated that whole time. Staff would just walk past me not even making eye contact, they had cleaned seats since I'd been there and no one took me to a seat meanwhile when I first walked in they seated the people in front of me. 5 mins into my wait.. one waitress asked me if I was waiting to be seated like no I'm not, I'm just standing here with my thumb up my butt. That was the first and only time a staff member paid any mind to me. I left and went to the location on bloor street. I was seated as soon as I walked in and had my lunch within 10 mins. I would like to point out I get that it was busy, it was good Friday after all which is why I stood there patiently for so long, they were busy and I'm not a rude person. However, you do not just ignore your customers because you're busy, it's called prioritizing. I felt like an idiot standing there for so long so thank you for that. Never againnnnnnn.....

I am not a huge fan of fish and chips but they’re having a great buy one get one 50% off right now so I figured, why not give it a try? First of all, the portions are huge but I am not complaining. The fish (got the halibut) was nice and flaky and the batter was perfectly crispy and delicious. We ordered through Skip the Dishes. I believe we may have got yesterday's order. It was cold and skimpy. The batter was almost non-existent and separated from the fish. Fish fell apart when you picked it up with a fork. The chips were dry like cardboard and everything was cold despite very quick delivery. This has never been my experience with the Halibut House. Over $70 and we couldn't eat it. Horrible. I hate to leave bad reviews, especially now when business is a struggle.
