A nice little pet supply store with free parking ( located in a plaza). They also have a dog wash here which is great because you get to use their shampoo, tub, water and blow dryer and leave all the hair there. The price is reasonable, and they have a loyalty card.

You can tell they really care about their animals here. They know a lot about reptiles, dogs, cats and small animals but not a ton about fish. All the animals look healthy and clean and the store is bright and cheery. They have a great selection of specialty dog and cat foods and lots of things for small animals but their fish and reptile section is a little small. If you live in the area and this is your closest pet store for your fish or reptiles or if you're looking for a specialty dog or cat food this is a great place to check out.

I had a good time talking to Kate about getting everything I needed for my new fish tank, accessories and more.. After leaving Pet Smart just prior coming to your store.. I left P.S. very angry.. Kate made me feel at home at the store, she helped me pick everything out, except for the accessories which was fine by me, she was getting my fish at that point. At P.S. they told me i couldnt have as many fishes as I wanted in my tank. I was wanting 10 feeder goldfish. The associate at P.S. told me I needed a 40Gal tank for that. I was like umm.. nooo.. I always get feeder fish for a 10 Gal.. Sorry about the rant.. but I am every happy with the customer service and knowledge that Kate had (I believe she was the owners Mother) .. I will definately be coming back.. Do you guys have a points system or something along that line?

I recently rescued/adopted a new dog/fur-baby , the lady that helped me find a 'good brand' of food that suited his no grain diet was very educated on the different foods the store offered and was beyond helpful in helping me find the perfect my newest fur-baby. She also made suggestions on how to introduce the food and use the pumpkin mix with proper measurements for his size/weight so that he didn't get upset tummy. I wish I could remember her name so I could tell the owner of the store what a great job she did. I have never been to a store and received that much help and when leaving the store felt totally confident with my purchases

I have never had a truly positive experience going in. Typically when you walk in the door you will not be acknowledged, or asked if you need any help. I also don't like the size of the cages they keep their poor bunnies in, they are way too small! On another note, I noticed another reviewer on here mentioning kittens being in the store during construction... 1- the lady on who is in charge of the rescue ok'd those animals being there, if she didn't think it was appropriate or for they were too stressed she would have taken them back. (I know her personally and have heard about this issue) 2- the owner does NOT own the Pet Valu in town too, the paulmacs is a corporate store that is headed by Pet Valu (they are like a little sister company to Pet Valu), but the brockville Pet Valu is a franchise store owned by an awesome couple has no association with the Paulmacs.

Wow! I've just read the one star reviews and all referenced uncooperative and/or rude staff. I must say that since the switch over from PJ's, I have yet to encounter this type of behaviour. I generally only buy dog food and take advantage of the Seniors' discount day. Recently I was looking for a high quality leash and a clerk was very helpful.

I came to this pet store about a year ago and I have finally felt that it is time for me to share my story. I have never been so utterly mortified with the quality and environment of a pet store in my entire life. I arrived at the pet store about a half an hour before closing time. There were two women in the window of the store cleaning up for the night. When they saw my father and I approaching it was clear that they did not want us there. I came for the intention of buying a hamster and so they showed me towards the shelves rather unwillingly. The hamsters which greeted me were all isolated in their own cages with grainy looking bedding barely covering the floors of the cages with one little house in each. Mere babies, no more than 3 weeks old, and terrified. She lifted up the little hideouts from their cages so I could review them further and they were visibly shaking in the corners of each cage. Unable to watch further, I told the lady that I wasn't interested. Before putting the houses back in the cages, however, she poked at one of them rather harshly, explaining that it was the one who bites. I left shaking with anger. This is a clear sign of animal abuse. These hamsters were babies who were isolated in small cages with barely any bedding and one little house for protection. Hamsters are fragile creatures, especially at this delicate stage in life. Hamsters still need companionship until about 5 weeks from their siblings but instead were alone, facing prodding and poking that they did not understand. It is a wonder how not any of the other hamsters were biting as well, seeing as they were all traumatized. Hamsters are not born tame, they need to be brought into the world of humans delicately, and need to be cared for properly and in the right conditions. I was only able to post this review if I rated at least one star but, in truth, I would rate it somewhere in the negatives if I could. I was not able to see any more of the store, as I could not stand being in there another second, but I'm sure I saw all that I needed to know. Frankly, I was horrified and if I had my way, this store would be shut down. I understand that this was a year ago and things may have changed but from what I saw I highly doubt it.

Before I could speak she gave me a look of absolute disgust and rudely threw her hands in the air and just glared at me, then mumbled something under her breath. She then turned to another customer and with a SMILE, helped him with courtesy and respect, right in front of me. I've never felt so ignored in my life. Just rude and disrespectful. Looking at the reviews here and I can see others have also had bad experiences.... I'll never set foot in the place again.

Good selection of food, although they unfortunately stopped carrying the brand I buy for my dogs when they switched companies. Good selection of reptile supplies, though a bit pricey. Staff has been professional and polite the times I've visited or gotten crickets. No bulk deals on high number of live feeders, which is too bad since it can become extremely expensive.

We neither like more dislike Paulmac's. It can be a bit or miss place and the staff can be friendly at times, but also negligent. Nothing changed greatly between the switchover a couple of years ago, save the name and that they are part of PetValue. It never made sense why they would reopen under the same parent company that we already have a location for here in the city and ended up offering the same products, cutting their competitive business model to absolutely nothing.

Great for small pets, dogs, and cats... they have a reasonable variety of fish and fish supplies but don't have much for shrimp, reptiles, and anphibians. Some reptile equipment is available, but no cork bark. A large variety of food for cats and dogs, some rodent supplies as they also sell hamster and other small rodents.

Sooooo I've had to revise my previously great review. Disappointed that I have been disappointed by Paulmac's. I'm finding Paulmac's are generally 5 dollars a large bag product more expensive than PetSmart. Unfortunate. I used to shop here exclusively. Now I am having a difficult time touching the place based on price and service. The staff the last two times I walked in stood chatting with each other as opposed to serving us. Tried once again after not getting good service and I think that's my limit. I wasn't alone either time and my disappointment in service was echoed by my friend. They offer a multiple bag purchase bonus but factoring in the service I think I'll stick to PetSmart for perks and savings. The free bag every so many purchases used to offset the increased price but now it doesn't and the sheer lack of respect when standing there waiting like an idiot, I can't do it a third time. The couple of hundred we spend monthly in pet stuff a month will be spent elsewhere.

They are generally 5 dollars a large bag product more expensive than PetSmart. Unfortunate. I used to shop here exclusively. Now I won't touch the place based on price. The staff are great but again every 10 bags is 50.00 out of pocket. They offer a multiple bag purchase bonus but it does not even come close to PetSmart for perks and savings in the long run.

Had no choice but to give them one star, zero isn't an option! There's ONE staff member (Amy) who's helpful. The only reason I have given them SO many chances!!! But after the first time, I haven't seen her. Staff are rude, snobby, and generally seem annoyed with thier jobs! Pets are a passion and fish & reptiles are a growing hobby but with the staff at this store I strongly suggest talking to Pet valu and see if they can order stuff in for you. If not DEFINITELY online shop before walking into this store. The fish section looks pitiful with sick, dying and "bullied" fish......betta cups are dead AND almost dead. The staff are 100% uneducated on even the most basic pet keeping. I WILL be emailing head office (not sure it matters)

I went to Paulmac's today and was shocked to see kittens in cages right in the middle of the construction that is going on in the store. There's hammering and loud banging and these poor cats are right there. It just ruined my day. I spoke to the owner who didn't thing there was anything wrong with it. The owner by the way also owns Pet Valu! I will never go to either one of them again.

The pets being sold here are overcrowded and visibly stressed. There were a dozen budgies sharing a single rectangular travel cage and they were side by side, crowding the only two dowel perches, no space to fly, stretch, or flap and no space for enrichment. The same applies to the cockatiels whose long tails prevent them from adequately traversing the cage or even conveniently turning around. The canaries are kept in travel cages that I wouldn't recommend for anything other than a trip or emergency where a regular spacious cage is unavailable. There is absolutely no space to jump or fly. It's a sad and abysmal sight, and they appear bored and scared. The sun conure, kept away from the other birds and close to the doors and drafts, has soiled food and water dishes, as well as its couple of dowel perches. The cage is lined with corn cob bedding, which harbors bacteria and causes respiratory problems in all animals, particularly when soiled. There is currently a humane society cat there which has free roam of the store, but a cage to retreat to. The cat is often unsupervised and stalks the birds, causing them obvious distress. She chirps at them and pounces up to their cages with no deterrent and no one watching her. This is a deadly situation for the birds, even if the cat is being "playful" (which is still inherently predatory ). As a cat lover, I strongly believe in offering an enriching environment that allows the cat to be as free and comfortable as possible, but as a bird lover and overall animal advocate, I strongly stress the betterment and protection of the more vulnerable prey animals. I'm sure the cat would be interested in the betta fish too if they weren't motionless in those tiny plastic cups of stagnant water. The supply and stock is the same as most other Pet Valu or Paulmacs stores I've visited, so it's on par in that respect and it's clean and well stocked, which earns it the star. But I wouldn't recommend coming here because they have obvious problems with the quality (of life) control of their living creatures.

Great service. When my husband went in for dog treats and they did not have what we were looking for, the owner went above and beyond to find us something similar. He went as far as giving us frozen chicken feet for free! Our dogs loved them and I was very pleased to learn they do not like to keep raw treats on hand for more than a week. It's great to know they keep the stock fresh and are happy to help a customer find what they need.

Paul macs staff is very unknowledgeable and not wanting to help customers. I asked about a fish (farlawella) that I had been waiting to purchase and the staff knew nothing about it and said he was being held for a staff member. This person told me that I needed to order it in advance even though I had requested one months ago. When I spoke to this same staff about ferret food and she told me that the food she recommended to me months ago was bad for my ferret and I needed to buy a bag of 38.00 cat food for him (she had researched it), I said my ferret is fine on the other food. Very dissatisfied with products and staff.

Wonderful pet store. The (owner?) is great. Very helpful. Usually has a bird at the front of the store. I like this store because it is small but well stocked and the staff are knowledgeable. Online it says that instore shopping is available. I just went to open the door to the store, and the woman working there didnt say a word to me. Just pulled the door shut as i was trying to open it. I read the signs on the door, and saw that in fact there is only online curbside pick up available . Which whatever thats fine. But i waited there so I could let her know online it says that there is in store shopping, and she said "well there isn't" and walked past me. Barely acknowledging my existence. Terrible terrible customer service and will never shop there again because of this womans service.
