Fish and chips (in my case onion rings) were amazing! Fresh, crispy, and massive fish and onion rings! Great customer service as well. I will definitely be going back and I highly recommend

B J

Halibut and calamari definitely good maybe the best in the area. Fries a bit greasy but overall I would go back . Next we'll the oyster burgers

Xiaolei Deng

Best fresh seafood on the North Shore - love the Indian Candy today we had lunch - salmon & fries absolutely delicious!! Not normally a fish & chip fan but OMG yum!!

TooMuchFire

What can I say, they have been in business since 1961, so they know their fish and went there on my way to cates park, but was blown away with their fish burger and cakes. I even got a pound of fish scraps they put together for our pets for two bucks for a pounds, Love that. Definitely will be my go to for fish. It can get busy, as people we're lined up out the door, so you might want to call to see. Their stock is super fresh and delicious.

Olena Tkhorovska

A great place for early lunch. I had the crab sandwich, the chowder and fried oysters, fish and chips with cod. Everything was super fresh! The chowder and the oysters were the rockstars of the lunch. Very friendly service, fast, super polite and proactive.

Steve Murray

Great Seafood. Call ahead and they will have your fish and chips ready for you.

Our go to place for fish and chips then off to the beach. Arrived at 5:35 and was told they were closing early. The young front staff was so rude I was startled. Won’t go back. They took the sign down 10 min later while we sat in the car trying to figure out another place.

N R

Telephone ordered in and told would be ready in 15-20 minutes. Turned up after 20 minutes then waited another 20 minutes for our food. The fish was dripping in oil, the fries were really dry and tasted 'old' like they had been sat under a heat lamp for an hour. Definately not worth high price they charge.

Carl Hendriks

Love their fried oysters, good deal for $10 you get 3-4 fairly large oysters (Ahem... The Fish Counter, you gotta step your game up...). Their crab sandwich was pretty good too, great if you're craving crab but don't want to buy a whole one and cook it yourself (They do sell whole cooked crabs there but I have not tried. Looking forward to try their fish and chips in future.

Non descriptly located in a business mall along Dollarton Hwy is this little shop specializing in fresh caught crab and seafood. Do yourself a favour and come try their offerings. Come by for lunch and pick up some fresh seafood for dinner - you won't be disappointed. On this visit we tried the 2 piece fish & chips and the crab meat sandwich (because what else do you order at a place called THE CRAB SHOP?!) Wonderfully fried battered cod with Kennebec style fries served in a classic paper box..definitely hit the spot. The sandwich? OMG DELICIOUS. lump crabmeat morsels bound by a delicious sauce - let me tell you, they don't skimp on the crab here! This sandwich must be THE hidden gem in all of Metro Vancouver! There is so much seafood to choose from from fresh fish fillets to seafood cakes to frozen crab legs and lobster tails - and yes, fresh crab! If you love seafood, forget Granville Island and make the visit here...STAT!

Angel Armamento

Food is super delicious! I love the salmon and chips and the clam chowder is super yummy. The lady who answers the phone could lose the attitude but other than that great place !

Bart Yong

I come to this place for the shrimp sandwiches because they are epic. However the last two times I have had one, the cook was sloppy/lazy and put the outside piece of a tomato on it. It was tough and dry. My feeling is that you don’t chinz out like that when you serve food. So I called the store and asked to speak to the manager. Someone came on who clearly was not and when I told them I wasn’t satisfied, she had the nerve to say in a very condescending tone, well did it affect the taste of the sandwich?? I said what? Are you serious? She was rude, disrespectful and should have apologized. I would not have complained but it happened twice in a row and I was annoyed. White Spot from now on. Their shrimp sandwiches never disappoint.

Matt C

Amazing fish n chips. Great local shop. Nice selection of high quality seafood. The Arctic char was very nice

LEONARDO BLENGINI

I recommend this place to eat the most delicious crabs hamburger!!!! Excellent!!!

Zona Zoe

Awesome place. Bit pricey so it's only good to go once in a great while.

Oh man guys... this was a pretty tough experience. We went in as a group with 2 seperate orders, we were close to closing and you took my friends order and their payment but not mine and my wife. Since we came in one car we had to wait together while you made my friends order. I was standing with them in line and you took me than 90 seconds after 5:45. Felt like the worst customer service I've ever had. Just figuring out dinner now after driving home.

David McAdam

With the prices in most F&C shops going up it is nice to see the Crab Shop has kept their prices reasonable. I am not sure I should be writing too favourable a review as the line ups each day are long due to the quality and prices of their products. Had the family pack. The fish was fresh and flaky. The portions of fish and fries were generous. definitely worth a visit.

Aleksander Amer

Disappointing customer service. My lunch order came out of the kitchen and sat on the counter for like 5 minutes while the counter person took a new order for fresh salmon from a lady who could not find the words to quantify how much of the salmon she wanted. After settling on roughly half, she changed her mind about which half a solid two times. I mean come on lady!

Scott Mc

Food quality and service has declined the last few months. The deep fried fish had so much batter on it that the plastic fork couldn’t pierce it. Was told tartar sauce was in the fish and chips box, only to find out on the drive home that it wasn’t. Waited 10 minutes in line and then another 20 minutes for the food.

I have lived on the North Shore and supported this business as far back as I can remember. As a matter of fact my first memories of this shop was a small shack on the side of Dollarton Highway. They have always had good food but lately the quality has been going down. I still felt a loyalty this business as they were the little guy on the North Shore and I, aswell as my extended family, always try and support local businesses. However my latest experience here has severed my relationship with this business and I would caution anyone reading this to think twice about spending your money here. My wife and I were at the river behind Maplewood farm with our son and had decided on a fish and chip dinner. We called the shop and attempted to place a take out order over the phone. The girl on the phone was very rude to my wife in no short order informed her that they weren't taking orders over the phone. They have always done this in the past so we were a little shocked but we tried to accommodate by letting them know it wasnt a problem and that we would be there as fast as possible. She gave the woman her name and let her know we were on our way. We quickly packed our stuff and buckeled our child into his carseat and were off. When we arrived at 5:35 ( They close at 6:00) The woman behind the counter decided that she was not going to take our order. She tried to tell my wife she told her no later than 5:30 but we explained that we had a small child and it was rush hour and that we had made it there as fast as possible. She was even more rude in person than she was on the phone and my wife left there almost in tears after the way she was treated. I am shocked at the decline in service and the treatment of longtime loyal customers. I would advise anyone who reads this to spend your money elsewhere as this place has strayed far from what it once was. We wont be coming back here after this and I will be telling everyone I know about the service we received. Im quite upset but Im sure there are better places on the north shore who know how to treat customers properly and with respect.

In the last 2 weeks, we've had order-out 2-piece Halibut & Chips, and Coleslaw. (One order with yam fries, the other regular) Very fresh Halibut, lightly breaded, tasty, generous serving! Both times consistently good! Yam fries a bit soggy by the time we brought it home to eat. Maybe it would be be crispy if eaten in. Coleslaw was bland this time. So I gather dressing mix is not consistent. We have been coming here off and on since it's inception across the street. One of our go-to's was the Halibut burger and crab cakes. But about 2 years ago it seemed to have gone downhill. Crab cake had more fillers than crab, battered fish was skimpy and heavily breaded. Staff not very knowledgeable nor friendly. We stopped going but decided to try it again last week, and things seem to have improved! Will have to give the crab cakes a try again!

Charles

Definitely a hidden gem! I was driving along Dollarton Hwy and decided to check this place out. This is possibly the best fish and chips I’ve had in the metro Vancouver area, and I’m talking better than pajos, cockneys, c lovers, and the many bar/grills I’ve visited. The batter was crispy, golden brown and light. Halibut was fresh, moist and full of flavour. The chips were also pretty good. The only bad thing is that it didn’t include coleslaw. Otherwise everything else was spot on. A great first experience overall

Samuel Chow

Amazing fish and chips, too bad about the awful front of house staff. Spent 30 min driving here in traffic, and called 36 times with a busy signal right up until 645 when you can no longer order. I walked in the door at 6:47 to be told I couldn't order. The woman who answered the phone at 645 would not listen to my order, despite my pleading I had been driving for half hour all I wanted was a family pack of cod. After getting inside at 647 I was denied ordering and told next time order earlier, despite the website saying until 645. I confirmed there was cod available and was told yes but no more orders. I showed the call logs and explained again I had been driving for half and hour in traffic and was given the cold shoulder. Honestly never been treated more rudely in my entire life by 3 people at a restaurant. When I asked for their names so I could tell the owner I was told no. Quite frankly this place needs to learn how to treat customers as more then just cash... They seem to forget the reason they have a job is because people come in to spend money

It's doesn't get better than this place for your seafood needs. Super friendly staff even when they are steaming busy, which is a lot of the time. Highly recommend and worth the trip of youre coming from afar.

Really wanted to like this place as I recently moved into the area. Fish was dry and batter soggy. Stingy on the tartar sauce and the fries must have been store bought McCain’s that were cooked in an oven like you would at home. Not worth the cost and would advise going elsewhere. Disappointing. All the hype is confusing. Give it a try if you want but keep expectations low.

I finally made it to The Crab Shop and I'll be back again. I had a 2 piece fish-n-chips, 1 salmon and 1 halibut. Very good, quite tasty. Fries need a little salt or seasoning. They also need to put a some ketchup with to go package or at least ask. I like fish-n-chips, and test places as much as possible. This place is one of the best locally. They also have many types of fresh fish, crabs etc. Like i said, I'll be back ????

Dan Pawlowski

Good food but boy have the prices skyrocketed in the last 12mths ????

This place might not look like much but it is definitely worth stopping! Great local and fresh seafood! Go before noon as it gets pretty busy! They have an on the spot menu with amazing fish and chips with a choice of either Cod, Halibut or Salmon. The hot sauce is also very tasty! We had the Cod and Salmon and they were both delicious, notably the Atlantic Salmon. Nice little place and great for seafood.

Liz Marc

Don’t go there for take out. Regardless of what time they initially tell you, the wait will be 15-30 minutes more. The quality is not what it used to be soggy fish, cold fries and they forgot the coleslaw. Just sloppy for the price you would expect much better. It’s worth the drive to C-Lovers instead.

Leslie Chatelain

Fish and chips are quite good. The Crab sandwich had shells in it though and it was fairly bland. Also, you can try ordering over the phone if you want, but don't expect the food to be ready when you get there. I was told to come in 15 minutes and got there in 20, then I had to wait in line outside to even let them know I was there. At 30 minutes I get to the counter and no one has any idea what happened to my order. So I head back outside to wait while they make it. They have a serious organization problem. To be clear, the food itself deserves 4 stars. But the service is pretty lackluster, dropping it to 3.

Frank Leo

Limited selection of fish but what there is, is well presented. Appears if the food from the kitchen is top notch as many folks waiting on orders.

Peter L

Was scouting for great fish and chips and drove in from the Fraser valley. Was well worth the drive! Fixed my crave for sure! Don't let the location fool you!

I’ve been coming here for a while now. Yesterday after not having been here in a bit. I ordered my go-to Salmon & chips but no salmon. I find that curious as they had three types in the cooler for sale. Nevertheless I ordered halibut and chips. They didn’t look like the pictures you folks have posted. But the worst part was not the small amount of fries or the “halibut” having like no flavour. It was MSG! I’m pretty sure the hand cut fries are now frozen and shipped in boxes. The fish the same. I will never eat here again. I’ll buy fish if I feel so inclined to take a trip to North Vancouver.

Eugene Bonin

Delicious as usual, they have the best fish n' Chips on the North Shore

Gerald Roscoe

Got combo 1 which included a clam chowder and taco which costed $7.20 after tax. Really tasty but not super filling. More of a nice light snack.

Robert Cole

The best fish and chips in the world !!!! Always the best fish and chips, they can make Super fresh! Crab meat sandwich !!! You should try!

Ricky Wong

Always a good place for seafood and love their fish and chips

Galen Kehler

The crab sandwiches are amazing. Candied salmon is also delicious! Food comes out pretty quickly.

Daehee Park

Tasty local fish and shellfish products. Very yummy crab burger and crab sandwich!

BC Field Technician

Not sure how this place got a 4+ rating!! I've eaten fish and chips literally thousands of times and this was at BEST a 2.5 out of 5 rated meal. Maybe their other good is good but after the meal I had there I'm not ready to go back to find out!!! Other places to try first. Too bad you can't taste the picture I'll put up but then again maybe not actually too bad lol Taste is subjective, I mean nothing personal, they weren't friendly but they weren't rude either. Maybe I'm just not ready to call mediocre food good? My opinion of course, good luck.

This place is worth the trip 100% of the time. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Their prices are great for both their hot food and their fresh / frozen seafood

Always go here for their fish tacos and it never disappoints. This place has been on the North Shore for years! Knew of it since it was called the Crab Shack! If you love seafood, fish and chips and local small businesses. Check this one out! ????????????????

Joel Lafollette

Bad service on hot food. The lady on the phone wouldn't take an order and told me walk in only. I sent my son to walk in and she said kitchen was closed 5 minutes later. This was at 610pm on a Friday. Disappointed! Update we have given this place a second chance and what a mistake. Told 15 minutes for a hot food order placed over the phone and left standing outside for 45 minutes. The lady that runs this place is rude rude rude!!!! We will never return.

Tasty halibut and chips. Great staff , remember no orders in last 15 minutes of the day.

This place used to be our favorite. looked for menu online before ordering and found pictures of the menu board. we were shocked when we picked up order and it was 35% more $ than we expected. Halibut family order went from $42 to $58. They didnˋt have malt vinegar. My Dad ate their tartar sauce and spent the rest of the night in the bathroom. We are sad to say we will not be going back

mike banducci

The prawn tacos were great! Was disappointed by the fish and chips though. The cod was undercooked

Tim Chu

Quality and fresh seafood market hidden in pseudo-office complexes, right beside a Subway. The top secret here is they also have a kitchen and can produce some really good fish and chips or chowder. Coating is perfect and not too think nor oily, the fries were freshly made. The seafood pricing is fair in the area, although you can get cheaper but you will need to drive further away. Clean, easy parking, and friendly staff.

Mona Peters

The fish and chips were good. Definitely fresh. Got a little soggy waiting for them to cool down though. Had to wait a while for food as it was busy. Probably won't be back unless I'm buying fresh seafood from the market.

Jordon Hope

Omg yum. This place is a hidden gem... Unpretentious yet delicious and excellent value. You get 4-star food at a 1-star price, portion sizes are big and it's sooooo fresh. I had a crispy delicious oyster burger, possibly my favourite one anywhere!

Rosie Clark

Best value/taste fish and chips. Great variety of seafood to buy as well.

Euan Crawford

Best selection of fresh and frozen seafood. Very busy and had a lineup outside. Didn't realize until visiting that you can buy cooked food to go, which makes me think I'll be returning for fish and chips! Good pricing, friendly staff!

sadna lal

The Crab Shop is a little hidden gem on the east side of North Vancouver. You can get pretty much any seafood you wish. The fish and chips is great too if you are looking for a great snack on your way to Deep Cove or on your way back from quarry rock.

The food is quite good. However, it’s very frustrating trying to buy it and have left empty handed twice. The kitchen closes 15min before the store. Our family of 5 once arrived at 5:40 to be turned away. I tried calling in an order 3 times today but no one picked up. The 5 of us drove down and arrived 35 mins before closing to be told the kitchen was closed. A very rude server wouldn’t give a reason. I grew up on bad service in the UK so have a reasonable tolerance but won’t be back.

Andrea Mameri

Very good spot to have seafood at! The store was clean and organized. Due to COVID, they only allow four people at a time, but the line moves quickly. We only went there for food and we weren't disappointed. Pictured here are their breaded shrimp, calamari, fish tacos and crab cake burger. All very good and reasonably priced.

Sebastian H.

Had two end-pieces of tomato on my 9.50 dollar burger. Who does this? Cheaping out on tomatoes, seriously? Prices increased significantly as well but they couldn't care any less, still lots of ppl who still coming here. Looks like that's the trend now everywhere, no service anymore but steep prices instead.

lorraine moody

I usually come here about once every month. I love this place. It’s a bit pricey but the quality is always excellent and the food is absolutely delicious. I usually go for the fish tacos, crab sandwich, or the halibut fish and chips. Do yourself a favour and come here for a meal. You won’t be disappointed!

Carol Goodwin

Googled best fish and chips near me and this placed popped up. It's a seafood market with takeout service. I tried battered deep fried Salmon for the first time and it was excellent. The Halibut was delicious as well and the tartar sauce very good. The service was great and the prices too. I'll be back again one day.

Wills

Ordered halibut near closing. It was a little overcooked, which is okay, but the batter seasoning was spot on. Fries portions are generous. Locals seem to enjoy it here. Bought some pre-cooked halibut and crab cakes to prepare at home, and they're reasonably priced. Will try their burgers or tacos next time. Bar-style dining, 4 people limited capacity for Covid, so must wait outside as people have called ahead of time for delivery or take out.

Doug

Food is amazing! I love it so much. The issue is we were treated pretty poorly by the one staff member. She was obviously mad at something but took it out on us. Not only was she very rude, we asked for a few extra vinegars for Fish and chips and she said that was the last two. I mean seriously! What did we do to you? We paid for fish and chips and we were only allowed two tiny packets of malt vinegar. Without it fish and chips isn't the same. I am not sure what she was going through but don't take it out on us.

Aaron Morris

Great halibut and chips! Get here early as they can't keep up with the lunch time demand and you'll spend your lunch waiting. This store also sells lots of seafood for cooking at home, so the ambiance is not there. Dont expect a nice sit down meal, though they do have some tables and chairs. I recommend take out.

Allister

This place is a long time local favorite. There was almost a 30 minute wait. People buy seafood but their tasty eats are a treat. Cod Fish and chips are meaty but tender. I love their fried oysters but next time I'll bring my own tonkatsu sauce. Crunchy outer shell with a creamy fresh inside. The breaded shrimp are really good.

R H

Wow amazing crab sandwich! I was told the oyster sandwich was also amazing and loved the clam chowder. The only thing is the clam showered was a little spicy from the pepper. Amazing neighborhood gem!

Matthew Jones

If you looking for fresh sea food This is the place I usually buy fresh crabs from here and for $1 more they clean them for you , ready for cooking You must try they fish and chips Fresh and tasty ????????????

Joe Lousa

went at noon soooooooo busy waited online about twenty minutes and because covid no dine in

May J

Candied salmon and candied black cod were excellent.

British Knight

Michelin star prices for take out food. Had the taco chowder combo and extra taco. Taco was flakes of old fish.. Was like they scrapped the grill and put the bits to make the taco. Took me 2 bites to eat it.. Was gross. Tip:Put a big piece of whole fish on the taco.. Update: 24 bucks for 3 piece fish and chips? Are the Oceans empty already? I mean increase by a dollar maybe but $6???! Crazy

Henry Brown

I have been going to this place since it was called the crab shack when on the otherside of the road. Used to be great ...now Everytime i get fish and chips the fish is LITERALLY the size of a FISH STICK. With the batter off its the size of half a smokie

Brooke Mounsey
