Ordered takeout from skipthedishes and was pleasantly surprised by the halibut and chips. The portion was enough for two meals and the halibut was delicately fried with a thin layer of batter with the fish still moist and perfectly flaked inside. The fries were thickly cut, well seasoned, and lightly browned. My photos show roughly half a portion of halibut and chips. I will definitely order from here again!

Huge portion of fish, lots of fries and the salad was a great size too. $19.99 for a piece of halibut(would guess 8-10oz.), chips and cesear salad. I personally found the portions to be larger then other restaurants in the area and I think the cost is fair for the amount of food. I'm very happy with the quality and taste of the food as well as the fair prices.The halibut was perfectly cooked, wasn't oily and tasted light and lovely. I wil be coming back with the family! Edit: we went a second time and ordered the takeaway deal 2 halibut with 1 fry and the portions were even bigger, the fries and batter still manage to be crispy when we get home. Big fan. Will be back often!

I have always enjoyed the good fish and chips at halibut house. This time, sadly my take out was packed sideways. That's fine when all is just fish and chips but I ordered poutine. I realised when I got to the car that the items were not packed flat but sideways. I layed it on the floor but too late. All the gravy had run out and was in the bag, all over the fish package and almost none on the fries. Just the absorbed stuff. And they put paper on the bottom of the poutine so after eating some, my fork came up with what looked like melted wax goo. Bummer as it's not cheap eating here. And they forgot my coleslaw. 22 bucks for one piece of fish and this mess in the picture.

Very clean facilities, although when I went it was closed to dine in patrons, because of Covid restrictions. Ordering was easy and prompt, staff were very friendly. This meal was for my father, who is quite fond and particular when it comes to fish and chips, but he absolutely loved it! I'll be going there again!

Just opened 6 months ago. What a wonderful little joint. The lunch menu is very cheap ($7.99) and the food was sizeable and up to par. What really impressed me was our waitress. Constantly checking up on us to make sure we were ok, smiling and sparking great convos. We will definitely return.

Tried Halibut House for the first time. Ordered the $10 Monday special with an extra piece of fish. Guess what? An extra piece is $10 too! So I asked for fries as I was paying for them anyway. What a mistake. As you can see from the picture the fries are definitely not golden brown. The were so undercooked they were inedible. I called the store to provide feedback, but the phone goes straight to voicemail and you can’t leave a message. On the bright side the fish was flavourful but undercooked. I do not recommend Halibut House. Undercooked food and they don’t answer the phone. Buy from a competitor who does it right and has a process to take customer feedback.

We loved this place but quality has really dropped the last time 2 times we went there. Very greasy...over cooked...very little and thin chewy fish.. Mostly thinck oily batter..couldn't even eat it all... We always order one order of onion rings as a substitute to one fries.. Again, very little onion in the rings last time..The fries seemed rubbery.. We love our fish and chips and even gave them a 2nd chance but we wont be going here anymore... Will try the one up near Dundas instead We did call to voice our concerns but they didn't seem to care at all.."Oh...I talk to chef, bye bye?" Yeah...Bye bye.. we will take our business elsewhere...

Hi there, my mother and I were disappointed with our fish and chip take out order this time, "Sorry" but our square piece of fish was rock hard on all 4 edges and the fish was tough and chewy. We had to cut that off and throw in the green bin. There was a few good fries and the rest we tossed out, the ends were just too hard.

OMG!! This place is AMAZING!! ???? We aren't from around here, we were here just for a mini vacation. Husband and I really wanted some great fish and chips. I looked on here and this place had amazing reviews!! I can definitely see why!! The customer service is amazing, and the food is soooooo good!! It was very busy when we visited, but the food was delicious! We had the halibut and chips, and chicken fingers and chips, and both were crispy, crunchy, and very good. We found the halibut to be evenly battered and not too greasy which was really nice. Special shout-out to Sherry who was taking orders for dine in customers, and also taking orders for a long lineup of take out customers, and also expediting delivery orders! It was a busy night but handled with professionalism all around :)

Halibut House has the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. The batter is so clean crispy not heavy or greasy. It has got to be the best batter I have had on fish. Lorna our server, went out of her way to look after my 91 year old father, He suffered a stroke 6 years ago and his speech is not the best.She was wonderful with him and had him laughing and singing. Not too many servers pay attention to the elderly and especially when they are handicapped and we thank you Lorna for this. My dad also gets cold easily and he mentioned to my mom he was cold and Lorna came to my dad and put a Chefs jacket on his shoulders. Very appreciated. Not only was the food delicious and the atmosphere excellent, we will be coming back for sure. It is a go to place for fish and chips and we will tell everyone we can, With everything that is going on in the world it is so wonderful to see such a caring person such as Lorna, she has made a lasting impression on me and my mother. Thank you

It was rough. My fiance and I got the special on Monday, which is basically just fish and chips for $10. It was soaking wet because of the grease. We had to put everything in an air fryer to crisp it up. Nothing had any salt on it either. Definitely didn't feel too good afterwards. There's infinitely better fish and chips spots in town. Skip Halibut House and spend your money on a local establishment.

The food and customer service at this restaurant are beyond excellent. The fish is flaky and hot and the fries are cooked to perfection. I pick fish up here practically weekly for my elderly mother. Last week, she received the wrong order by mistake. This week not only did they include a note of apology in her order but also provided her with two extra pieces of cod!

We actually feel sick after our lunch. The staff were very warm and welcoming but the quality of the food was underwhelming. The halibut fish was non existent in a lot a batter. We had to send my husband back as it deflated in front of our eyes. Coleslaw was a small portion but I didn’t mind because it was soggy and sad. The last weird addition was the ketchup. It most be a real cheap no name that had a very strange taste. Won’t be going back that’s for sure.

I am angry at myself for not going here sooner. The prices are very reasonable and they have specials on some days. I got the $10 Haddock and Chips special and it was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The fish was flavourful, the batter was light and crispy, and not at all greasy. The chips are hand cut and soooooo good! My son had the chicken tenders and he loved them, very tender and flavourful. This is a must-stop!

Halibut House on Appleby surpassed our expectations for dinner, BUT NOT FOR BREAKFAST (more on that at the end). Fish was perfectly cooked (tried both: Halibut and Haddock), the batter was crispy and not oily, and the French fries are out of this world (I'm a picky French Fry eater, since I don't eat them often.) Great place for lunch, clean atmosphere and friendly staff. BREAKFAST: Very disappointed - raw-white potatoes, wrong bread served, toast was really not toasted, stringly pea meal bacon. Won't be back for breakfast, don't recommended. (1 star rating for breakfast, 4 stars for fish dinner!).

Went there today(Good Friday) and it was very busy. Some very rude customers were there. Unfortunate as you could see the staff was very overwhelmed. What is the point as a customer to make the situation worse. I think they could have been a little more prepared. Also with Covid 19 guidelines in place just made it a lot more difficult for the staff. Kudos to the staff they never got upset and just did there thing which was to do their best under current situations looking after the customers. The food here as always is fantastic, one of the best fish and chips in town. Just wish they were a little more prepared for the Good Friday onslaught.

Went to the Halibut house last night after working a long 10 hour shift. Was super excited it was now open since I haven't had fish and chips in a long time. Walked in about 10 minutes before closing, the service was awful. They never said hello and ignored me until I they realized I wasnt walking away. Then after I ordered the woman said that I was late and they were closing soon, kept making snarky remarks. All i was getting was take out. I Was ready to leave and not bother but was too tired to do so. Once I got the food the fish was bland and the fries were awful. Was super disappointed in the food and especially the service. Save yourself the trip, it's not worth it. I understand I went close to closing time but if you don't want paying customers coming that late change your hours. Will not be returning ever again.

I wasn't expecting much but have to say that this joint really fits the bill - if you're jonsing for some good ol' greasy fish'n'chips, give this place a shot! The worst fish and chips I ever had. I paid $18.00 for a box of chips that was hard and a piece of fish ,that was 70% batter. This fish looks very big, however it's mostly batter. Google said open til 9, went at 830 to place order to go to be told they weren't taking anymore orders, place was dead and wasn't given a good reason as to why. Tried to call at 830 the next day 4 times and nobody answered the phone. Extremely unprofessional, adjust hours if you won't accept business after a certain time.

Tried this fine establishment for the first time today. I am honestly blown away, this has to be some of the best fish and chips I have ever had. Thick wide cut filet steaks with thin crisp breading. Very little grease. Cooked just right. Super thick fresh cut fries. All around I am super satisfied with the quality, taste and service. Great value, everything you see here for just over 50$ all in. Fed our entire family and then some. Highly recommend if you're craving fish and chips.

Be wary of the quality, having been part of the food industry as a QA specialist and process engineer, i can guarantee they are not changing the cooking oil regularly to save costs, AND they are using the same oil to fry everything, i know the taste of bad oil and this place definitely needs an inspection. Also they aren't draining the oil properly after cooking.

A surprisingly large restaurant near the movie theater. Would be great for a meal if going to a movie. AND they have beer. Unlike many others, this one does not overdo the batter. It's not super thick so you get the fish flavour and not mostly batter. We had lunch here Tuesday at 145pm. Owned by Chinese folks and the lady was very nice and friendly. They have a haddock special but we both paid more to get the haddock. (One lunch size and one dinner size.) Delicious although an extra 60 seconds in the frier might have made it perfect. In my subjective opinion. They serve breakfast too..not fish then. Halibut and haddock are expensive on the world market, but we felt the meals were good value.

Tried this place a week ago. Fabulous! Had the haddock & chips. Nice big piece of fish. Not too much batter, good fries. Clam strips were great. Often they’re rubbery when I’ve had them from other places. These were soft & tasty. Breaded mushrooms were the greatest thing ever! Soooo good! My mom had the Caesar salad as well & thought it was very good. Will definitely be back!

Went on a Sunday afternoon, not very good. Fish has a processed taste to it and the fries are pretty nasty even with ketchup or malt vinegar. For the price paid, ($32 for 2 Fish and 1 Chips) I expected better. I recommend The Lighthouse Fish and Chips on Colborne St.

Sunday-Monday deal for Haddock is awesome. On Good Friday things get FUBAR, you've been warned, but hey they're trying their best.

I ordered takeout on Friday evening, we had a timed pick up. I was there a few minutes early and was told it would be ready soon and they took my payment. I waited another 20 minutes for my food. When I got home it was cold. My battered mushrooms were soggy and under cooked. I attempted to write to the business, however, they didn't return my email. The fish tasted nice, would have been better if it wasn't cold. EDIT** I just received an email back...I am guessing after the review was read.

Breakfast - I used a coupon and tried the breakfast here. It was very good and even though I used a coupon the waitress was very friendly and attentive. I will definitely go back, but I will ask them to cook the potatoes a bit more as they seemed a bit underdone to me, although the person I went with thought they were fine. Fish and Chips.... Prices are reasonable and the fish was tasty (but greasy... that is what I expected with fish and chips though). I wasn't crazy about the taste of the fries. We went on probably the busiest day of the year, so maybe that is why. Next time I get them I will see how they taste or maybe add some salt. If more salt is needed, it is probably best that the customer adds it themselves instead of getting fries that are too salty. As I said we went on the busiest day of the year (Good Friday). They were very well prepared. From entering the door to leaving we were there for about 10 minutes total. Seeing how many people were there this was very good.

I tried the haddock & chips Monday dec 28th 2020 & it was totally awesome & the fish was massive with very good gravy. Couldn't wait to try the cod & chips with gravy the following wednesday & it was horrible. the young woman cook obviously removed the fish from the oil & it must of had a 2 inch thick strip of oil from the fryer to my container, i didnt expect that at all & it made a huge costly mess in my back seat of my car. She couldnt let it drain for at least 2 seconds, that would of been made a massive improvement, half the fish was uneatable from being drowned in oil & the rest was to soggy to pick up, the gravy was watery & maybe 60% full placed sideways inside the paper wrapping with the box containing the food. i wish i got half as much gravy as i did oil. she must really hate her job. i even tipped her very well. i love the portions & cannot wait to go back but i guess i have to tell them too drain it then rip it open in my car to be sure its half decent then let out most the hat so i get home with a cold dinner.

First time trying this restaurant and was super impressed. My new go to place for Fish and Chips. Fish was super fresh and flavorful! Portions were great and staff was super friendly too. It is nice to see a local restaurant like this in KW. Support local and visit these guys! Only recommendation was that I hope someday they can come up with their own tartar sauce instead of the generic one they give.

Oh wow where do I begin!? My wife and I and sometimes... mother in law visit this place at least once a week for the past 1.5+ years or so! This is a great little franchise business in the renovated Appleby village mall/strip. The owners have a well above bang for your buck fish 'n chip special and a fantastic breakfast menu for a place that's named more for Fish than breakfast!! Its always busy/steady, there is lots of turn over, the place is clean, the quality is great and a real gem which probably doesn't get enough credit are the WAITRESSES!!! These ladies are down to earth, nice, great people who run food to tables, for hours on end during the breakfast/brunch rush etc etc and deserve just as much credit as the cooks or more perhaps! Like a few other reviewers have said there is sometimes coupons in the paper, there are always decent breakfast specials and of course fish n chips too. If you're looking for an average, everyday treat for yourself with awesome people and service? Give Halibut House Appleby a chanceamd tip your Waitress!!! They deserve it! :)

Had 2 pieces of fish and chips and a grilled halibut and ceasar salad delivered last night. 71 with taxes and tip. Fish and chips ok. Nothing special. Grilled halibut was really tiny but the worst was the ceasar. No bacon, no croutons and no parmesan! Literally just lettuce and dressing. I did get enough packets of malt vinegar and ketchup to last me a lifetime. Which ended up in the garbage since I dont eat either. Waste. Sorry. I dont think I will be ordering from here again.

This place is a typical British-style fish and chips restaurant. The staff and service makes up for the taste of the food, which is a little different from what I'm used to at restaurants like these. It wasn't bad, it just felt like it was missing something.

Being very picky with fish and chips, most are soggy, over battered or tasteless, I found Halibut House was a nice surprise. Friendly, no rush staff and high quality food. As an aside, why anyone would order fish and chips through Skip The Dishes is unbelievable. This is not the type of food that travels well. Suggestion to management, 86 the Skip The Dishes option as it will only tarnish your food reputation.

The coleslaw was a light oil & vinegar dressing- fresh but just mediocre. Price was in line for fish & chips and take out packaging was recyclable. Bottom line we would order again.

Thirdly they are expensive. 2 piece fish and chips over $21.00. Better to check out The Fish Hut on Westheights drive. First and last time here for us and I'll let our friends know! Enough said. If I hear they have changed things I may come back.

I know this is a popular place but we won't be going back. Food was nothing special - all breading - not tasty - yet cost $70 for dinner for two. Ordered by phone - they gave me an arrival time....food wasn't cooked when I got there...had to wait 20 minutes. Food was falling out of the box and therefore got cold because box was overstuffed with twice as many chips as anyone could possibly eat. Too much breading on Halibut and especially the shrimp. Standing there for 20 minutes allowed me to note that the cooked asked why the cash staff were taking so much to bag the food, when he had cooked it long ago...and watched waitresses/cash staff handling many different tasks and items and didn't see them wash their hands once in the 20 minutes.

Went there for the first time. Very impressed with the quality of the fish. Clams and chips are good too. I would recommend offering ketchup and tarter sauce on takeout orders. Not sure if it was an oversight, but there wasn't any in the bag. No biggie. Couple of small add ons that I'd recommend adding is a soft dinner roll, and coleslaw. For anyone reading this, it's the best fish and chips you'll get in KW. I know what I'm talking about. Not only am I from the east coast, but I've had the best. Such as John's lunch, and another place now closed in Dartmouth NS. Plus have had the fish at the old Camille's joint in Halifax. My meal was on the same level of quality as the others mentioned in this review. 5 stars

We have tried the takeout twice. Portion size was good, however the fish was overcooked and tough the first time and undercooked the second to the point of having raw batter on the fish. They also missed part of our order. Calling the restaurant was a complete waste of my time as all the staff could apparently say was "ya" and "ok" after I had to explain twice that the fish was undercooked. I eventually hung up after a few oks and yas without them actually acknowledging my problem. Disappointed to say the least and I am not going back, nor would I recommend it to anyone.

No reservations but had no trouble getting a table early Sunday afternoon and were able to linger. I heard they do a great breakfast. Big bright spacious place. If you like black hair with your fish, this is the place. I ordered the grilled halibut/chips and found a stran of black hair stuck to the fish. The waitress was nice and told me she won't charge me for this. She did offer to get me another plate. But , I declined because everyone cooking in the kitchen are not wearing any hair nets. Plus, the front desk and the kitchen are sharing the same walkway,. So, everyone working is walking by the cooked food. Also, like to mention what others already stated about the food portions. The grilled halibut was tasteless and very small. The portion of fries was a joke. Definitely not worth $16 dollars.

Really liked it here, I’ve just moved to the area and have been looking for a good fish and chip place, I’ve tried a few places and found them just ok, but this place was simple and delicious, just what I like with fish and chips. The first time I tried it I ordered skip the dishes and thought it was good and very quick, the second time we ate there and ordered the cod instead of halibut and we thought the cod was better then the halibut. The price is definitely reasonable, we definitely would go back.

Well we bought the family pack of halibut...if your looking for real fish and chips, your NOT getting it here, it was like highliner except they added an extra pound of grease...everything was soggy, the fries were not done, the cole slaw was bland... Drove by a few time prior too being open , Once opened a friend and I went on our Lunch break we walked in ( During Covid ) very clean , seating arrangements were nicely spread out ... Young Gentleman seated us , told us he would be back after we looked at the menu ( started telling him we knew what we wanted already due too having grabbed menus at the front door he walked away dragging his feet across the floor ... 25 minutes go by ( friend and I spoke about getting up and leaving because we needed to get back too work ) long story short young gentleman come back telling us he forgot about seating us and wanted to know if someone took our order we said NO , he took our order dragging his feet again to go place our order finally got our order ...food portion was a good size , drinking cups looked like they were for children .

I'm not commenting on the food. The staff claim to be unable to enforce any kind of covid 19 precautions. A person at the table adjacent to ours was continuously hacking a dry cough. The first staff member that we notified said that she didn't hear it. The next staff member said that they could do nothing other than post a sign at the door with conditions for entry. We left half of our meal on the table and checked out. No compensation for a ruined meal and no apologies. How sincere are the owners in regard preventing the spread of covid 19. Update to the above. The owner now claims that staff offered to move our table which they did not.

Tried it for the first time today for take out. I’ve had better fish n chips. The fish (halibut) was salty over cooked dry and chewy. The fries were ok (a bit soggy). The clam strips were good. Half the order was missing (including coleslaw) and the clam strip box only came a 1/4 full. They fixed it without question. I’d like to try the fish tacos next time.

Well, I have to say I was disappointed! My daughter was down visiting me and we decided we wanted fish and chips for dinner, I'd heard great things about the Halibut House so we decided to give it a try. I ordered two halibut dinners to go, the bill was $32.00 and change. When I went in to pick up our order I realized there was only one box in the bag and I asked the young lady where the second dinner was. It seemed she misunderstood and thought I only wanted 2 pieces of halibut and chips. Wow, $32.00 for two pieces of fish and chips! Then she offered to get me a second order of chips and since my daughter was sitting in the car waiting I decided to go that route so we could get going. More fun and confusion, she told me she would have to charge me an extra $2.00 for the aditional chips, then she told me sorry, it was $3.00 not $2.00, by the time I finally got my chips it had gone up to $5.00. So, $37.00 and change for two pieces of fish and chips, no coleslaw or lemon. The food was good but not that good and the staff seemed very inexperienced, the one young lady had to get a calculator out to try and figure out change from a $50.00. So would I go back, probably not, while the food was good I don't feel it's good value for what we did get.

Went today for lunch and had the halibut. Beautiful light but crunchy batter and cooked to perfection. The handcut fries and coleslaw were great. Huge serving. Great friendly service and spotlessly clean restaurant. Plexiglass partitions between all the booths. I will definitely be back and have already recommended it to my son and daughter.

If I could put -1 star I would. Absolutely the worst Grilled Halibut and dining experience I've ever had. Ordered the Halibut and Greek salad. First plate delivered to the table and it was so over done that it tasted like crispy paste. Waitress was very good and took it back to get a new piece. Second piece while not over cook was just a very poor piece of fish. Was like chewing on calamari and had no taste, but that's not the worst of it. Told the waitress that this piece was no better. Manager came over and started to ask us where we usually buy our fish? Fortinos? Wish they did. Then proceeded to tell us that lots like their halibut, but she understood what I was talking about. Still continued to insult us by saying we did not know what the texture and taste should be like. She was completely rude, demeaning and insulting. Won't be back!!!! Next time we will visit a better establishement that understands what fish should be like. Suggest Jake's Boathouse or Caz's Fish & Chips to all who care.

Fish taco with raw onions?? I enjoy fish tacos however Halibut House has it all wrong! A better choice would be Joeys Fish and Chips. I also ordered fish and chips for my wife, fries were under cooked. Perhaps breakfast would be a better choice at this location, hard to screw up bacon and eggs.

Passing through Branford my son spotted the Halibut House and we decided to stop. We went in to order and both orders were identical, 2 lunch fish & chips with a side of gravy each. When the food was ready the four of us ate in the car. The complaints start: my son and wife received one order instead of two. He had to go back in and wait again for the second order. The fries did not get a good nod from anyone, being soggy and mushy. After asking for all the condiments, there was no salt in either order (back in again). The fish got good reviews all around. They may have a couple things to work on here. The Halibut House in Kitchener was excellent.

Decent fish in large pieces. Fries looked overcooked but were somehow still soggy and unsalted. Caesar salad was barely recognizable. My dinner for two cost over $70 and all I could manage to eat was the fish. I recommend driving down the road to The Fish Hut instead. Will never visit again.

Last night grand opening in Brantford for halibut house. I give this place one star for having the food ready. We paid 59.74 for 3 people to eat halibut n fries. We didn’t get the coleslaw wasn’t in the bag. We weren’t given a total on the phone so we had no idea of the prices. Just told one of 1piece halibut dinners would be half price. None of us could eat the halibut as it was far from flaky more like rubber. Fries were nothing special. Disappointing to pay 60.00 for okay fries , no coleslaw n rubbery halibut way over priced. Can’t see this place lasting too long. lol

Last week was our first visit to halibut house,at that time the dinner was perfect,staff excellent, then we went back again on Wednesday and things changed drastically,we were left to find our own table, and get the attention of a waitress, still no menus, order finally put in. The fish and chips arrived and drinks, well the meal was not good at all the fish was from who knows, chips soggy and cold, sorry to complain like this but we don’t understand how the restaurant could change so much in such a short time, obviously you have lost a couple of customers, it’s a shame because like I said, the first experience was fantastic, the best fish and fries available any ware including Dover, hopefully you will pull up your socks, Garysmale @bell.net

Low's is a good choice for lumber etc. The store is bright, clean, and well stocked. The lighting and bath fixtures are right up to date, and design. This store has a large selection of major appliances and guarantee the lowest price. Lumber and trim selection is good. Tool selection is excellent. The mill work area is fast, and courteous. For a big box store this is an excellent choice.
