Heard from a friend about this little place, so I tried it out. I was hungry and wanted a burger, so that's what I ordered. Let's just day I'm glad I wasn't on a diet, because its definately not Weight Watchers friendly, but that's a good thing. The food was excellent, and very well priced for what you got. Only thing I could really say bad was the decor of the place, but the food makes up for any short comings.

One of the pillars of Brantford. The admiral is the Dude on the grill and he's been running the joint since Joseph Brant forded the river. the buns are about 8" in diameter. you get 2 standard size patties, 4 pieces of back bacon, and 4 slices of cheese. "Would you like fries with that?" Of course you do. Because they come in a 12" x 12" takeout platter heaped about 4-5 inches high. you'd be lucky if you can close it. all for under $9.00 Eat there, then book a slot at the local hospital to get your arteries scrubbed clean. I love this place.

Very good food! for a very low price the low price accounts for the grease but it’s very good poutine is very VERY good, just maybe eat it while it’s hot or it might become inedible when cold, maybe try re-heating though?

Got a poutine and a burger, waited forever for it. When I got the food and began eating it I found a piece of plastic with burnt on grease and have no idea what it was from. The burger was soggy and made my partner puke it up just as fast as it went down. Horrible. Not recommended for small children either as it could have been one of my children who ate the plastic.

The Admiral is my reason for going to Brantford. Portion, price, quality you wont find anywhere else. Ive been going there for 15 plus years and will continue. Like i mentioned portions are large so be prepared for that. Seating is at a minimum but if its nice take it to go and head out to the park bench and enjoy. Tiny bathrooms and lack of parking are the only downsides.

Didn’t quite meet my expectations. Came here with a coworker for lunch, ordered the hamburger (w/ fries) & fish n’ chips. The hamburger was underwhelming, tasted like store bought frozen patties. I expected more to be honest. The fish n’ chips weren’t any better. The fish was a little dry and had definitely been in the freezer for a long time. However, the portions were huge! You definitely get your money’s worth in terms of quantity. Also, the staff were friendly and eager to serve. If you’re looking for a big meal at a decent price and you’re not too picky about the quality, Admiral Submarine is worth a shot.

What can I say? Admirals is the most iconic greasy spoon of all time in the 519 area. I've been a patron since the 90's. I can tell you the decor is the legit same rustic furnishings (ie tables, chairs, menu sign even the lettering on the board) from the time they opened, it's amazing they've never changed. The food portions are so insane you'd think you were in the US, and pricewise they can't be matched. I can attest Admirals kept me alive when I was broke 18 year old student, it was cheaper than buying groceries.. This is the definition of a non assuming comfort food place. Love you, Admirals, never change, ever.

This place is great the biggest portions ever, for my family of 5 we get the small fries and it is enough for use to share. Cheese balls and mushrooms are huge portions as well. Burgers are great. So if you are getting together with friends and love to share then this is the place to go or for take out or delivery too.

This place is "old school"! Great quality and quantity - by far, the most meat I've ever had on a sub. When I picked it up off the counter, I couldn't believe how heavy it was! I ordered the pizza sub and they grilled the meat before putting it on the bun. I'll be back..... soon!

I would give Admiral Submarine 0 stars if I could. Workers were not wearing masks or gloves. There is plexi glass but the employee kept going around it to talk to us. I assumed that she would put on a mask while making our food but she didn’t. Felt very uncomfortable there regarding covid. Didn’t see any sanitizing or hand washing either. On top of that the food was awful, just inedible. Tasted very processed! Burger patties tasted like something you’d find from the frozen section at Frechco. I highly recommend avoiding this fast food restaurant.

This is one of the first places I ordered from when I moved to Brantford, 5 years later and I’m still ordering from here. The food is delicious and the portions are HUGE! If it’s your first time ordering you’re guaranteed to be shocked by the amount of food you get. I love the veggie subs from here. Went here for first time today. Ordered a bacon cheese burger, cheeseburger, and 2 poutine. The portion sizes were insane and had I known I would have ordered less. First - the burgers were really good and yes greasy but the good kind of greasy. The burgers were huge and had 2 patties which I didnt know but was good. The buns were big and fresh. I would recommend the burgers - be aware they are huge and order accordingly lol. The poutine was large portion and I didn't like it. The fries weren't cooked enough and the gravy was heated up (not fresh). The cheese was good but overall the poutine i would not order again or recommend. The service was friendly and not a long wait for the food. The inside was retro and they had minor Covid19 precautions (plexi glass barrier, couldn't go too close to counter, bathrooms closed). Its does not have wheelchair accessible door. They have sitting area that was open. The person who served us did not wear a mask or gloves while preparing the food. Overall - would recommend trying if your in the area but be mindful of the portion sizes and it is reasonably priced for the portions.

If I had a choice my rate would be in the negatives. Ordered food for delivery over and hour and a half later it hasn't arrived so I call back. They sent it out 30 min ago. Another 30 min past my food has arrived. Completely cold and soggy and on top of that it was completely wrong and not what I ordered. Greasy drunk food comes in no better form than when it comes from Admiral's. A must-eat place for late night drinking. You get a huge portion of food for a very low price. It is great for sharing with friends or a significant other. The only downside to this place is that there are a lot of sketchy people who hang around it late at night. I would suggest going with a friend that you trust, just in case. Also, the chubby guy that takes the orders is often verbally abusive to his employees, which is slightly disturbing for a customer.

Tho a lot of ppl like their portions I personally think it's way too much . Who needs 3 slabs of pork and 3 patties of beef on top of large cut onion and tomoayoe slices . The taste is delicious but I feel it's too greasy and huge I can't even bite it to enjoy it. Which is a shame cause when I take down some of this tower the burger and fries are super delicious. I recommend getting one meal and grabbing some buns . U can split one huge budget between 2 -3 ppl so I guess there's an upside to all the food. But I feel they are trying to make up for something or hide something idk

After picking up my cats' ashes, my daughter, my best friend, and I went to stop in to admiral's for a quick little bite. To my dismay, the fries were so dry, the gravy was lumpy, and later on in the evening after I retired to my sleeping chamber, I woke up and expelled the units of nourishment from my food bag. Old gray mare, she ain't what she used to be. And I wouldn't be surprised if they used old gray mare meat in their food.

They messed up our order. When we called back, they a knowledged they made a mistake and said they were sending the missing item. After nearly an hour, we called back to inquire where our missing item was, only to have them hang up on us. We were charged for items we didn't receive and they refuse to send us the missing items. We will not be buying from them again.

I almost always get Admirals back bacon on a bun with lettuce, tomato and mayo. It comes with what looks like a whole pack of back bacon which is pilled high on a soft bun. You will never be underfed by any menu items. The portions are what defines admirals because it’s the best bang for your buck. Customer for life.

My wife and I absolutely love this place. It's very difficult to find an old school place that serves great food at a reasonable price anymore. We moved to Alberta 8 years ago, but every time we come back for a visit we always go here and wingmaster. The food is good and the portions are huge. Last visit my wife and I split a sub and small fries (which is a large takeout jammed full of fries) and we were both full for $14. The price was so low I had to give him a few extra dollars as a tip so I didn't feel like he was getting ripped off. The best and most impressive part is that after all these years the original owner is still hard at work. My hat is off to you sir, I am thoroughly impressed.

This place is amazing! Old fashion, with HUGE portions. (I am serious, a small fries can easily feed 2-3people) I've been coming here since I was little and tonight didn't disappoint. I tried their philly cheese steak and it was good. Prices are beyond reasonable for what you get. Love love love this place!

Excellent poutine with fresh cut fries. Double bacon cheeseburger comes with pea meal bacon and warm tomato sauce on the top bun. Philly cheese steak is fresh with carmelized onions. Good value, cooked to order service. Looking forward to trying their donuts and subs next time.

It's definitely not a place to impress someone on a first date. It's really old and outdated. But the people who own and run the place are friendly. You won't believe the portions of food you get ! Always made fresh , tons of variety.

A solid 4/5. Ambiance is lacking, totally. A bit of a run-down place, becausr it's old, but, BUT the Food is GOOOD! You might call it a "greasy spoon," but it's great for what you get. Just over $11, dbl.burger combo & drink, and seriously, enough food for two people! And it's Good ???? Fine dining it is NOT, but for a good stick-to-your-ribs, fill you up meal, you cant beat this place. Staff was very friendly and pleasant as well. It's a humble place. ENJOY! . Next day: There was so much food yesterday, that I only ate 1/2 of it, and then had the rest for lunch today. Just drank water today, so not as full. I'll be going back to Admiral Submarine, next time I'm in the area.

Admiral Submarine is the best burger spot I know or have ever been to. I got the double cheeseburger & fries for $13.50 taxes included! It was just how I remember it almost 25 years ago. A Huge double cheeseburger that you can't fit in your mouth when you try to take a bite & enough fresh cut french fries for 2 people. The food is always hot because they cook it fresh right in front of you. I managed to eat about 90% of the whole meal because I was starving, but seriously, the meal was Massive. If you want a great burger & fries I highly recommend Admiral Submarine in Brantford.

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would. The burgers here cant be beaten. I drive 40 minutes to have a burger here. The food quality, portion size, and price can't be beaten. They are open 20 hours a day, and deliver as well. I 100% reccomend having a burger here- they are frankly amazing and HUGE.

One of downtown Brantford's original favourites! I bought fries for $2. ???? I didn't expect much but when I received my order, I was blown away! I was given a LARGE size fry, heaping full! Best deal I've come across to this day. They also serve one the biggest burgers I've ever seen that I dare anyone to give a try! ???? Plus service is friendly and pretty fast.

My review of Admiral Submarine... more like a story... The year was 1962. A single ship floated up the Brantford canal, landing in the downtown core, its cargo hatches bursting with fresh beef patties. The Admiral himself disembarked the ship, ready to rage war on the deep hunger that had clutched the city of Brantford for many years. A crowd had gathered in Shallow Creek Park, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Beef Barron himself and the magnificent meat filled ship. The Admiral addressed the crowd “I’ve heard your cries of hunger, and I’m here to restore full stomachs at reasonable prices… and I’m going to do it at the corner of Dalhousie and Queen Street”. The flock of people exploded into fanfare. Everyone lent their hands, and the backs, to carry the beefy contents of the cargo holds into the frozen catacombs beneath what would become Admiral Submarine. The next day his work began. A lineup of patrons had already gathered within the take-out area. The grill was fired up the first time and covered with beef and bacon. The Admiral carefully crafted his finest creation… the Bacon Double Cheeseburger. A burger built according to secret blueprints that the Admiral himself had stolen from a top secret research facility whose scientists were conducting hot beef injection therapy treatments. His hands moved quickly as he piled three all-beef patties onto a sesame seed bun, with three slices of cheese separating the patties. The hungry customers gasped as he skillfully laid four slices of peameal bacon to the heap. Topped off with fresh lettuce, onions, and tomatoes, then lovingly wrapped in the sweet embrace of parchment paper. The first patron extended his arms to accept the majestic meat creation, to which the Admiral laughed “I’m not done yet”. The crowd looked on, wide-eyed, as the Admiral filled an entire container with fresh homemade fries. The fries were cut from a rare breed of potato long thought to be extinct. He covered the fries with the finest salt known to man, harvested from the tears of Vegans. His concerto now complete, he handed off the breathtaking beef creation to the first lucky patron and a single tear rolled down his cheek. “My god, it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before” exclaimed the customer. The Admiral was not satisfied though. “There is much hunger in this town to fight against. I may have won this battle, but there is still a war happening and I intent to see it through” The Admiral thundered as he raised a glistening greasy spatula above his head. The crowd cheered and clapped, knowing that their saviour against hunger had finally come, a meat stacked messiah. The burger and fries, along with a Coke, was enough to satisfy the hunger of any man. From that day forth, there would be no more hunger in Brantford. The Admiral would dedicate himself to fairly priced food in absolutely massive portions. He came to town with mountains of meat in tow, but became the hero that Brantford needs. The Meat Messiah… The Beef Barron… The King of Fries… He is… The Admiral.

Went for breakfast wrap and was disgusted. Place is filthy and smells of urine. Wrap wasn't folded properly causing food to fall out in my lap. Very disappointed. Wouldn't go again unless I was very drunk.

The owner is legendary. I'm a big dude, ate half the burger and fries. Don't worry about the sketchy people in that area of town, even they know not to mess with the Admiral! (I can only assume he was an admiral for the dutch east india trading company....seems about the right age for it.)

This place may have large portions but honestly the place is filthy disgusting inside and I would NOT trust the food, I have no idea how this place is still allowed to be open due to the overall filth. I work in the food industry and I have no idea how they pass inspections. They cleaned up the outside of the building as the City would of made that happen , but My Lord clean the inside..and I am not a clean freak by any means, but I will never step foot in that place again after going in there a few months ago , total gross.. Can't believe the reviews , people taking quantity of food and price over food safety.

Known to be a local establishment and the best place to get your greasy fix after a night of drinking. I have personally tried their lunch time fries special during my monthly bout of fries craving. They are fresh cut and delicious. I also tried their gyro meal. Just a warning, their portions sizes are gigantic. So much food. So be prepared to either share, save some for later or clear the rest of your day to account for your food coma. All worth it though. Always good food.

Admirals is first and foremost a Brantford institution. It's legacy comes from the huge portions, the very outdated interior, and the Admiral himself who may be immortal. The food here is perfect if you want some great hang over food, or you need a mountain of fries to cry over, or if you need to feed a small army for relatively cheap. Beware the junk pile which is probably enough food for 6 people.

Busy but still quick, interac is always good with tap especially. Food is as expected, which is good for a place like this. The decorum is a bit dated and could be spruced up. They cook the food in front of you but because of the look of the place and the usual late night downtown suspects ie. The lesser class, admirals gives the impression of lower class dining. With improved ambience this first impression could be avoided. Not normally where I enjoy to eat, but they are good at what they do!

Admirals has been in Brantford since the telephone and has fed generations of my inebriated family members. In the heart of downtown Brantford, this place serves until the wee hours of the morning and is one of the only ones to do so. Sub, burger are great but if you are coming here for a feeding you need to get your mitts on the Junkpile. Price and quantity are outstanding. If you have family try and go earlier in the day, as once the bars close this place becomes a hotspot.

If you're looking for a monster burger with a heaping of fresh cut fries, this is the place! The "Double with Cheese" is actually 3 patties of meat, 3 pieces of peameal bacon and cheese on one half of a Styrofoam container and the other side is fries - for about $13! Head across the street from The Works (which I also love) if you're really hungry! 4 stars is due to the maintenance of the building. Needs some updating and you have to squeeze past the freezer to get to the men's washroom.
