I have not been able to eat here yet. As I have tried on a Sunday or Monday for months. Every fish and chip restaurant closes in the tri cities Sunday , and Monday. As a Google guide would we be able to ask this owner or group of owners to open the restaurant on Sunday at least for family dinner ? Than I would love to actually rate the food, service, and cleanliness of the facilty. I will update the review to more or less stars based on the food.

Fish Hut is a family run restaurant. It specializes in fish and chips. I ordered for four people. All of us ordered the cod. You can also order whitefish, haddock and halibut. The portions are large and done to perfection. Both the fish and the chips were delicious.

Portions have gotten smaller, and the server is not very friendly, my husband and I used to go every week when it was the old owner's now we don't go that often. Update I went in to get take out and the owner was very rude to me AGAIN didn't give me a number for my order and 2 other people came in after me and ordered and got there's before me when I asked the girl where my food was she never knew anything about it. So no we will not be going back anymore. Shame because we used to like it here. Only gave 1 star so I could give a review otherwise wouldn't of giving any.

BEST FISH AND CHIPS AROUND BUT Customer service is LOUSY, LOUSY, LOUSY I have several of my own stories of placing an order via the phone, being told when to come to pick up and then being told to wait. And the wait wasn't 5 or 10 or 15 minutes, 30-45 minutes isn't unusual. Other WAITING customers i have spoken to have said the same. AND STAFF ARE RUDE ABOUT IT. If you can't do phone orders properly, please don't do phone orders at all. No one wants to place an order at 5 pm. to be told to come at 6:30 and then receive their food at 7:15. Its faster to show up, place an order and wait 30 minutes.

Fish Hut is a nice local fish and chips place in Kitchener, Ontario. It is located in a plaza that has a lot of parking spots, and it is conveniently accessible. The team members seem a little less friendly and not in a good mood. Yet, the service is good, and prices are reasonable. It is fried food, so do not expect to have a healthy meal. However, every now and then, you can enjoy a meal at this place. I also like their sauces, the shrimp, and the haddock.

Ordered a family pack. The quantity served is fair value for money, and hence I am giving it 2 stars. I am assuming, since the fillets are frozen, I could feel the stale stench strongly despite the crispy batter cost and deep frying. For someone who has been eating fresh marine fish for over 30 years, the taste and smell was disappointing. I will still go back and hope to get a fresher lot on my next order. Place is only open for takeout, as of now. Will update this review if my experience improves.

Not a five-star establishment but hey, if your place is called the fish "hut", we shouldn't expect tuxedoed waiters and champagne! Prices are still reasonable with the newest family management. Lunch specials have jumped. But quality and volume is great. Small location in this community mall hi8dden across from a school. I would support this family run business as they are clean safe and working hard to keep the doors open. It is our go to place > close to home and great value.

Good fish. Good chips. But pickup is a pain. We phoned in our order. I asked when it's ready. They said 10 minutes. I arrived 10 minutes later. Then I had to wait 20 minutes for it to be ready! This wasn't a one-off, I went there 3 times and it happened every time. But they are always busy, so they don't seem to care.

Very disappointed. I have been going here since I was a child and today’s visit has unfortunately ended decades of memories. I don’t know whether it is due to the pandemic or new ownership but the quality of food has suffered. Today I went to get dinner with my sister as it is the anniversary of my nans passing who was a loyal customer here for decades upon decades. I have gotten fish for takeout before and have been given the coleslaw that comes with it and it is always my favourite part. But today they said that you can only get that for dine in and we had to order a side of it. Which is new. We upgraded our fries into poutines and the fries were limp and soggy, the cheese was not melted and the gravy was not hot. The fries were hot in some places and cold in others like they just stuck old fries in the microwave. They also had a sweet almost sugary taste to them which was very unpleasant. The fish was luke warm. They changed from packets of tarter sauce to little containers and they put maybe a teaspoon and a half in it not even enough to cover one piece of fish let alone two. Overall very poor quality, poor service and just disappointing all together. Would not recommend.

They’re always my go to fish and chips place although it does tend to get a bit busy during the rush hours. The fish is absolutely delicious and the fries just goes with it so well. Oh and the poutine is the best in town by far. Friendly staff and a pretty clean atmosphere for the dine ins. Would recommand.

The price was decent. However the food was good at best. First and foremost, I'm an east coaster so I know my seafood very very well. Plus have worked in a number of restaurants that serve fresh seafood.... to the point where the seafood for the days lunch special is delivered at the restaurants own dock... My wife got the 2pc haddock and chips. Then I got a seafood platter of sorts. This included 1pc halibut, shrimp, and scallops. The scallops were dissapointing at best. They were deep fried in the same batter as the fish. They looked like chicken balls from a Chinese restaurant. Real scallops if actually covered with anything are usually covered in cornmeal. Better to have them fried naked.... to top it off they could have been cooked for a minute longer as the middle was a little mushy. The shrimp was large in size and tasty. The fries were ok at best. The batter for the fish seemed almost like it was watered-down too much, and not thick enough when coated... the fish itself was about as fresh as you can get here in Ontario. In fact the fish itself was fresher tasting than the fish at sonnys fish and chips in waterloo.

The fish is consistently good and the fries is fresh cut like a chip truck. So good every time. I swear, my parents only come for a visit so we can take them there. Haha.

Last week I gave this place 5 stars BUT I have to change it to 1 star based on my visit today. I observed the lady at the cash register using her fingers to eat out of the fries being given to customers. When I politely asked for fresh fries and not "those ones" the man said that those are for "poutine"....which by the way doesn't make it any better. When it was time for them to get the fries for my halibut and chips order they threw the fresh fries on top of the ones she was eating from. Not Cool! I won't be going back.

After getting our meal the fries are dry and not appealing at all. Fish wasn't bad but not enough to save my business. The customer service is terrible. I ordered over the phone and was told a time to pick up. After I arrived they accused me of never putting the order in. Instead of just putting the order in then they just pushed us aside to deal with the next person. Will not be returning

We had the cod and fries. The 2 pieces of fish were big and delicious. The batter was not heavy or greasy and the fish was nice and flakey and cooked to perfection. The service was great. Recommend this place highly. We will be returning again very soon.

Horrible experience. The restaurant was completely empty when my daughter and i came in so instead of taking our food out as we originally asked for we when to sit down, but no sooner had i sat down the staff came up to us and said "no u cant sit here its more money to sit and eat in,!! What?! Seriously the entire restaurant was completely empty and I just paid for $15 worth of food and they apparently say i should pay more to sit at a booth in the empty restaurant for 10min ?!!!horrible customer service. I honestly will never be back

Wow! This shop truly deserves a 4.5 star review! This local mom and pop shop truly mastered the craft and serves up some top notch fish and chips. The shop is frequented by primarily locals that have kept this hidden gem from the rest of the foodie world. It is located in a local indescript plaza that does not scream come to me but with this shop, the traffic should increase. They serve up several types of fried fish from the everyday “white fish” to the coveted Halibut. I samples the Seafood platter that includes a very decent sized halibut, 4 scallops and shrimp along with a 2 piece haddock platter that includes freshly cut fries (chips), coleslaw and a wedge of lemon. The fish was all very fresh and had good texture, the batter was light and airy and not oily that many shops default to now. The scallops and shrimp were also very fresh with good texture and sweetness. The entire serving was spot on and could take on any chip shops in Toronto and then some. Their beverage selection does not include alcohol but the variety will suit any taste including a cup of non vintage Waterloo’s finest tap water. I will need to make more reasons to come to Waterloo to visit this place out before others discover this gem out!

Our first takeout order this evening (Kitchener location). Everything was awesome. My husband had the seafood platter and loved it. I had the one piece haddock and fries. There was so much food we have enough left for another meal. A very nice light batter on the fish and the fries are so tasty. Don't know about the coleslaw, we didn't even get to it! Not a very good set up for Covid you can't go in people standing out in the cold waiting for their orders. I had ordered ahead they never got my order do had to wait. Customers weren't happy waiting..hopefully they fix this winter may mean I go somewhere else for fish and chips

Perhaps not their best day. It was ok. Fries were not crispy, need salt. Making your own tartar sauce would be a differentiator. Prepackaged tartar was disappointing.

I have been going 3 times a month for over20 plus years but the last couple of times I've gone i have really been disappointed its now new owners that have taken over and it shows the fish was not cooked long enough and the fries very soggy the portions are even getting worse never again am i going back these people have killed a once great fish and chips restaurant..i don't recommend
