Great place to get live minnows, and a lot more for the buck. I also bought a jig called "The Reaper " and it works really well on Perch and ya gotta buy more than one because the Pike also luv em, so don't forget to use a good leader.

Always an amazing experience going into Skippers tackle. Every time I go into the store I gain more and more knowledge to make myself a better angler! Skipper is always looking to help out fellow fisherman and fisherwomen in any way he can and is more than capable of outfitting anyone for a more than successful day on the water fishing for a variety of freshwater fish species. The knowledge he shares is priceless and you cannot get knowledge like it anywhere else!

I went to Barrie for the first time with my 10 years old son who suffers with autism and two naphews who are around the same age. My son wanted me to put him on some fish by any means ..... and I had no idea where to fish ..... Failing to catch any could have resulted in a very bad meltdown in the public! Since I had never fished in Barrie, I decided to look up for local tackle shops where I could buy some minnows and gain some local knowledge. The nearest shop that Google suggested was Skippers Tackle Box, and I can't tell you how happy I was after talking to the young guy who I met at the counter, couldn't catch his name but YOU were awesome to me and my kids. He took his time to explain to me the spots where kids can potentially have a better chance to catch some fish. He even marked few location on Google Maps in my phone!! I had a great day with kids and they ended up catching quite a few perch. They were also running 50% off of most stuff so I picked up a few jigs.

We went in to get dew worms and ended up leaving with a huge upgrade on my set up.amazing work here. The worker told me where and when to fish showed me how my rod was set up was wrong. He even set up our 3 rods for us huge help will definitely come again

Great place, such an experienced fisherman I would recommend to anyone. The spoons are my favourite item in the store, caught lots of salmon on his spoons. I rate the spoons ten out of ten, super heavy with big strong hooks so they are perfect for salmon.

The owner is not honest and cannot be trusted. We passed by today to buy some worms, he asked where we were going, I wanted to buy one dozen, but he told us to buy more otherwise not enough because too many fish there. As for the price, he charged more than other stores($10 for 2 dozens, + tax), he said the price will be more than double in the north, but actually even in a provincial park, they just sell worms for $4.25 a dozen including tax.

Came here lastnight without a clue on trout fishing. Frank set me up with a couple techniques, spots, and the gear to start me off in the right direction. Resonable pricing for an independent shop with a fair selction of gear. Will definately be back. Support independent businesses. ????????

Very helpful, Skipper is an awesome Canadian, old school Canadians are what still keeps this country great. A great selection of Rods, reels and Tackle, he went beyond traditional customer service, offered amazing advice, you can't get that off of Amazon, I support local businesses, especially in these interesting times. What a joke this place is went in to grab minnows and needed some glow in the dark jigs he told me “all my jugs are glow in the dark” so I grabbed a couple and cuffed my hands over them and they didn’t glow one bit not even the slightest even grabbed a white one to see and nothing... also trying to up sell you one eveythint in the store and not to mention had to pay an arm and a leg for minnows... asked for 2 Dozen and looks like he gave me 12... place is a joke and I will not be going back

Went Into the store today right before closing, to purchase a spud bar. The owner was extremely helpful, gave me a ton of tips about ice fishing in general and made sure that all my questions were answered. I will definitely be back, you don’t get this type of service in many of the fishing shops I’ve been inside.

Stopped in during the ice fishing season in the morning for some minnows. Based on the hours the store should have been open but the lights were off and nobody was there. I waited for 30 minutes after the store was supposed to be open until I left empty handed. Based on everything I have read it sounds like it was for the best, I won’t be going back.
