Food is good. Only about 3 forkfuls of cole slaw though. This place needs to have ONE waiter per table, fish ordered written down and not memorized. Their policy of 1 person taking away your coupon before you even order, and another taking the order, meant that my retired parents did not get the Haddock they pointed to on the menu. They got and were charged for Halibut. Added $10 to their meal. We won't be going back.

Was really looking forward to eating here, but was sadly disappointed. We ordered the cod. The fish was chewy and the batter was moist. The fries tasted like frozen deep fried fries even though we seen that they were fresh... not sure what happened with them. Fish was also VERY greasy. Service wasnt I deal either. Girl was very rude and unprofessional. Will not be going back and will not reccomend. My stomach hurts.

We went on a Friday night around 5 p.m. The service was quick and friendly. We shared a plate of Halibut and Chips and there was plenty for both of us. Very happy with our visit and will definitely return!

Have gone a few times and a terrible experience with the staff and food each time. Just left without getting our breakfast 1/2 hour after ordering. People seated after us were served. Then wait staff have messed up every time. Won't be back. Fries under cooked fish hard and chewy ordered items missing but billed for etc.

Ordered online at 6:37pm. Site said be ready in 15mins. Walked in for pickup at 7pm. No food, order not started. Cashier showed me my pick up time on her receipt was 724pm. I said the site said 15mins at 6:37pm. It's now 7:10pm. The couple in front of me had same issue and confirmed the site says 15mins, not 45mins!! Never again!!

Went for dinner last night, we had the halibut and chips and we were not impressed. The chips were not cooked properly and the coating on the fish did not cover the fish making it more greasy then it should be. Will not return, can find much better in Barrie.

Had dinner at the halibut house this afternoon and have to say this place is fantastic. Great service from our server Danni, prices are quite fair for a fish and chip place( we had the Wednesday special cod and chips with coleslaw for $8) and the portion size...wow the piece of fish was almost half the plate now that's value! Overall a great dining experience and we will be back again soon

Attempted to try this place out but was seated and never given a menu. We thought that they were but just busy then we watched the person that sat us seat another person and immediately give them a menu and utensils. Walked out after waiting 5 minutes for a menu and never even being approached after being seated.

I wanted to like this place I really did. The positive was the waitress was very nice and understanding. There was a large hair in my coleslaw and when I returned the plate I happened to find another hair underneath my fries. Needless to say i wont be returning. The cook was not wearing a hair net or hair protection of any kind.

Ordered first time delivery: arrived hot and not soggy. Fish was perfectly battered; not heavy, and cooked just right tasted great; halibut. Fries were crispy and fresh and a large portion. One thing I would highly recommend; and maybe they do this when you dine in, but packet tartar sauce is just wrong, I wish they sent fresh, made my own but still. Caesar salad was nothing special, small portion and just lettuce with croutons. For 6$ meh. Gravy was a giant size! So perfect for me.

Horrible management.. Hired my friend as a full time employee and fired him after 2 weeks without any notice or reason. They hire people and utilize them for a couple of weeks and then kick them out. Dishonest management. Never waste your time dropping resumes over there. Let them burn to ashes.

Best battered fish in Barrie. Great service, probably the cleanest fish and chip place I've ever been in. Had the Monday haddock special, take out, great price. Batter was still crispy when I got home. Was slightly overcooked though, maybe due to travel time. Let downs were the chips–had my hopes up as they looked to be fresh cut; and the Kraft tartar sauce–would love to see them make their own Will definitely be back.

The best service matched with the best fish n chips and unseen specials. We went in today after a fishing trip, our first time visiting, a table of 6. We got there around 7:30 greeted by the friendliest team member. Her exact words "we close at 8pm, but we will not turn away business and a hungry family" very cheerful and friendly while serving us. The haddock special was on point, amazing batter to fish ratio was perfect. You can tell the tartar sauce was home made. The gravy was amazing. An all around 10/10 food and service. The resultant was clean, well lit, well signed. Will def be returning! Thank you so much guys! A perfect end to an amazing day fishing!

We ordered fish and chips for 2, for delivery for my birthday last night. There were 2 large orders of soggy fries. The fish wasn’t battered. Two small flat pieces of white fish. Dry, tough and a really strong taste. Not exactly what we expected.

The waitress was distracted and didn't realize that an elderly and a middle age woman each ordered a full serving of fish and chips. It would've been smart I'd the girl had advised us that the servings are very generous. We ended up throwing out so much food that we could not eat. Beautifully clean restaurant! Staff are friendly & welcoming. I made my first visit at dinnertime yesterday (Aug. 16), for takeout. The french fries were freshly cut potatoes, not like the frozen potatoes that a few fish'n'chip places are using in Barrie. They were cooked to perfection, & the Halibut was cooked nicely as well. However, I did find after eating, the oil or whatever they used left me with a weird after-taste. Even this morning after brushing, flossing, etc....I could still taste the oil. While I most certainly enjoyed my takeout meal, I may be reluctant to return because of the aftertaste.

I decided to check the fish out, recommend by a friend. The restaurant was nice, clean and friendly service. I purchased 2 orders of fish for take out. I drove to collect my husband after a treatment and grabbed the bag from my back seat and it was saturated in grease! The meals are served in paper boxes, with paper wraps, in brown paper bags and it was a challenge to try and eat this in my car, not to mention getting grease out of my leather seats. Would like to see take out either in styrofoam or a plastic bag. The fish and chips were what I expected. Average at best. I may have a better experience with inside dining or taking it home. Eating in the car on the run, not recommended ????‍♀️no food photo as my hands where covered in grease.

First experience, we were seated and never given a menu or spoken to again. We waited a good 10-15 minutes without the server even so much as saying hello yet she continued to clean the table behind us. Were not acknowledged when we got up and left. Came back to order halibut and fries. The fish was tough and the food was basically tasteless. Definitely wont be back and would not recommend.

I was very baffled, the fish was spongy and oily which at that point made the chips taste unpleasant as they were significantly more oily and emitted that sleek smell, the battered so blend that there was literally no flavor. And the fries were awful as well, absolutely bland and incredibly greasy. Sorry i would totally agree with below review by June E that the oil seeped out of the bag although it was in a box warped in a paper and still lot of oil.

Sister Googled The Halibut House and view their menu. Chose 3 orders of the Halibut with chips and coleslaw for $15.95 each. Also 3 orders of gravy at $3 each ( 15.95 + 9.00 × 13% = $64.25) . I get there to pick up order and thought $77.80 was a little high but I pay and away I go. I tell my sister how much and she said we will look at receipt later. Well, no receipt. I call and was told Halibut is $17.95 + $2 for fries. This certainly does NOT reflect their prices. So for 1pc of fish, fries (did not get cloeslaw) and a side of gravy. $22.95×3=68.85×13%= $77.80. NEVER AGAIN!

This is only the second time here but well worth the 100km I drove to get there. Everyone in Barrie please support Halibut House Fish & Chips so the next time I'm in Barrie it'll still be open. Best fish and chips I've had anywhere in Ontario and as I guy from the east coast of Canada I know fish and chips. Great staff so clean, even the washrooms are spotless.

We went for the first time Nov 6/20. Very clean and bright. Staff very friendly. Just after we arrived the restaurant started to fill up but still sitting on our own. We happened to be in Barrie at dinner time and wanted something different for dinner and fish n chips were it! The huge pieces of Haddock, fries and separate salad were absolutely delicious! Girlfriend and I decided to try the new place on the block. She had the grilled halibut which came with garlic butter on top which she said was delicious. I had the regular battered halibut and was pleasantly surprised. It is lightly battered which brings out the fish's natural flavour more. The fries are average and the coleslaw was good. Tartar sauce was great as well. Definitely worth trying.

We had the halibut, which had soggy light fried batter, and served with pre pqckaged tartar sauce. Fish was chewy and NOT worth the price. The portions were oozing oil, and left my stomach very upset.

We have been here several times and every time the food is fresh and excellent. The portions and quality is great! Yeah it may be more expensive than some other places but you get what you pay for. Our server (always the same one) is friendly and does a great job every time we come in. Keep it up guys!

New place so I'm giving a 2 star. We had the Halibut. The batter was light but the fish was slightly chewy. Served my wife warm water and my pop came in a can no glass. Waitress was friendly. Noticed the waitress cleaned the chairs and table then used the same cloth to clean the tops of the condiments kinda gross.

First visit to Halibut House was a great experience! Ordered the breaded clams and lunch portion of the halibut and chips. The lunch portion was generous and enough for me! Had the caramel apple cheesecake afterwards and it was delicious. Did not catch the name of the owner but our server Heather was lovely. Not recommended: food was greasy, fries tasted stale, tartar sauces are kept outside (mayo should be kept inside fridge). You need to be seated, which means that you have to wait long time for waiting staff to seat you, give you a menu and then serve you. It takes too much time, food is not good, and prices are quite high.

Chips were a bit underwhelming but not bad. Staff were responsive and polite. Seemed well knowledgeable about the menu from what I overheard from other guests in the dining area. They offer dine in as well as takeout! Plenty of seating.

Extremely disappointed on Christmas Eve. Paid $96 for 5 piece family deal. Batter was raw on several pieces, coleslaw had no dressing and only 4 packages of tartar sauce included. When I called to fix the order they told me they didn't have time to fix it before they closed. It was 7:15pm. I've never ordered from this location and never will again.

Ordered for first time. Fries were good. Fish seemed to be a preformed party of sorts and had not taste. Deep fried mushrooms were gross. They caps were huge (6) and lacked taste as well. I prefer the smaller ones as they are flavourful. The batter was gooey and had a powdery like coating. Scraped batter off and ate them. Would not recommend.

For 100$, please please please save your money and go somewhere else. Tonight was my first time in there and the staff are amazingly friendly, but the food is not worth it. We got the Halibut family deal and what we got was more like stale chicken. It was super tough, hard to eat, and just gross in my opinion. Was completely different then when My dad borough home a halibut dinner on its own. Called to complain about the food and was told I could have an incentive on my next order. I will not be returning. I’m very upset I spent that much money for not even close to mediocre food. SAVE YOUR MONEY! I promise you, you will be disappointed.

Incredibly disappointing. I simply don't write negative reviews but I couldn't walk away from this one. I spent our ride home wondering how anyone would think this was okay. We stopped in while we were in the area for some fish and chips. $45 plus for 2 people with tip but no drinks. That might be in the ballpark if it were a satisfying meal. Look at the pic to see my pan-cooked halibut and garden salad ($17.95). Top notch prices for snack sized portions. Honestly, we couldn't believe how little we got for what we paid. Service was great - food arrived quickly. This doesn't make up for paltry snack sized entree. With so many other options in Barrie, we will be driving elsewhere next time.

My wife and I went here quite often. At least once per month. Was always good. We went Friday, Dec 24th, and what a nightmare. We ordered the fish chowder, as an app, and halibut and chips. The chowder arrived 15 mins later, and was not fresh or good at all. 2 mins later, the fish and chips arrived. Fries were burnt, and you couldnt get a fork in them. Fish was way over cooked and also tasted somewhat burnt. We sent the chowder back, because we couldnt eat it at the same tome as our meal. The waitress, then asked how the meal was, and we told her it was terrible. She went to the kitchen and started telling the other stsff in a very sarcastic voice, our comments, and almost shaming us. It was a terrible experience. I then asked for the bill, after leaving most of the fries on our plates, and she said she would credit the chowder, which we didnt have a chance to eat anyway. The owner wss right there, and could not of cared less that we were so upset with our meal. NEVER SAID A WORD TO US!! I guess return customers dont matter. Business must be very good to treat his regulars in such a manner. We have told at least 9 people so far, who will not go there again. Very very poor response, to a problem that could have been rectified do easily. Would not recommend at all

Had a high school get together here last night. The staff was was super friendly and very professional!!. We arrived at 6 pm and our meals we ordered were in front of us by 6:15 pm. The portions were large and very well cooked. The staff let us stay and reunite with each other until 9:00pm and didnt even pressure us to leave the resturant. The halibut was the chewiest, piece of processed fish I'd even seen. I did't think a restsurant would have the nerve to serve food of this calibre. It was closer to a chicken nugget than fish. The fries were bland and flavourless. Make sure you don't get the upsell of coleslaw (an extra $3, not included in your meal), as this was simply dried out shredded lettuce with a faint taste of vinegar. Really disappointed. There are several superior options in the Barrie area.
