This is absolutely, hands-down, the best fish and chips outside of Britain. We do a take-away about once a week and have never been disappointed. Any of the fish varieties are fresh and tasty. Chips are always prepared fresh. You can see straight into the kitchen from the take-away counter, so you can see for yourself!

Very nice fish and chips. Shrimp is OK, Scallops are Delicious!, both the Haddock and the Halibut were very nice and the fries are great. The batter is very light but flavorful. Milkshakes are fantastic! Prices are about medium range. The environment isn't what you expect of a fish and chips but overall would recommend.

Absolutely the best Fish n chips I’ve ever had in my life. Light crispy batter - fresh tasty fish - huge portions “Two and a few” gives two ample portions of delicious halibut and sometimes extra small pieces and more than enough fresh cut fries for one aficionado. It seems a bit pricey until you bite into that golden batter with the steaming hot fish and you realize you would pay whatever they ask for the best fish n chips in the free world.

Had the takeaway haddock and chips. Was surprised to see a double portion of fish, to along with the mountain of chips. Service was quick, especially with it being the lunch hour. Fish was tasty, chips were crisp. If you're ordering takeaway, be sure to round to the back entrance.

We got take away on a Friday night. We were looking forward to our fish and chips after reading all the good reviews. We ordered the halibut and chips, came to 33.79. What a disappointment. You cannot have a good piece of fried fish unless it is thick enough. The fish we got was a small square pancake of fish, so thin that it was inevitably going to dry out when fried. We will never go back there. The other reviewers either did not get the type of bad product we received or they are misleading. There is no way you could have the order of fish and chips we had and say anything good about it.

Used to be a five star place. The food is great however they have started giving smaller portions of chips, and the fish seems thinner, but the problem ices have gone up. They charge for tarter sauce, seriously 25 cents a packet after the first two. I am not sure what is going on here... I really love the food but am starting to feel really ripped off. Great food though

We each had halibut and chips with half chips and half Caesar salad and 2 soft drinks. The lettuce was brown and not appetizing at all so we hardly touched it. My wife had her fish pan fried not battered. $7.00 surcharge for that. My fish portion size was below average compared to other restaurants although my wife's portion was fine. Bill came to about $57.00 excluding a tip. Not great value as far as I'm concerned. Have ate here before and although it's a bit on the pricey side the quality was good so we came back. Very disappointed this time so probably won't return.

WOW!!! I have been going to their location in Unionville since I was a kid. I happen to be driving through Barrie and noticed a Danny’s fish and chips. My instant thought was this is the same family run business from Unionville known to be one of the best in the GTA. I stopped in, sure enough it was the same family run business. They may have changed locations but they haven’t changed the food! The fish was AMAZING! Their secret family recipe handed down through generations is hard not to recognize. If you feel like Fish & Chips make no mistake this is the spot to go to!!!

First time Customer tonight, drove over to pick up. Staff was helpful as I explained we were new to the menu. Ordered to pieces of Halibut and three sides of fries for my Wife and I as the 2 Kids just wanted to try the fries. Also ordered a coleslaw. Order was up fast in under 10 minutes, all good. Got home to find no coleslaw and so called back to reach the Student Employee. No apology, just an indifferent "My bad". Asked her to credit my debit purchase, no go. Hmmm, you only get one first impression, right? The fries are really good, like a fries truck at the beach as they hit the spot. The fish was soft and tender, nice texture yet the batter is bland. You can tell they change the oil on a regular basis as everything was a golden yellow in colour. We however, lost our appetite when our cat whom we gave some halibut to eat while we were at the table threw it back up. Won't go back, would not recommend.

When Danny's was in Stroud, they were the best. Since they've moved into Barrie, not such a huge fan anymore. The dining room feels cold and uninviting. The last time I ordered take-out, I was extremely disappointed. The portion was fantastic and ample. Unfortunately the batter fell off my fish. I was left with a pile of fish and a pile of fried soggy batter. For the price that I paid I have decided to seek another fish and chip vendor.

We have been to Danny's many times and always enjoyed it. We have only gone on weekdays until today Jan 5 2019 when we went there on a Saturday . It was not busy when we arrived about 4 pm . Our server needed repeat requests to bring the items we ordered to the table . He appeared disinterested in being a server. During the week there are 3 female servers who are top notch . They were not working today. So it was the usual very good food but not the level of service we are used to.

My family and I are regular customers we love the food and service and have been going there for a long time but tonight the owner went above and beyond for us this evening and I want to say thank you so much you made my son very happy we didn't realize the dinning room was closed today just take out and when we got there we found that out my son is autistic and didn't understand the dinning room was closed and he was upset and wouldn't leave the owner understood my son's issues and allowed us to dine in when the dinning room was closed and the dish washer that was our server was great ????

Tried going for good Friday and I definitely understand the wait times will be long but telling a customer that wait is about 30 minutes and not receiving any food for an hour and half seems a bit misleading. Totally fine waiting but would really appreciate a more accurate estimate.

Recently in the last couple months they haven't had their home made tarter sauce which is so disappointing :( I absolutely love it with my fish and chips. Went back after going to other Fish and Chip places and shocked to find the bill so high. 2 pieces of fish and some chips times 2 (two and a few for two), no cole slaw and 2 coffees cost $73. for lunch. Back to Captain George's!

Staff friendly and welcoming. Food a 5/10. The batter was good. Neither the fish or chips were seasoned with salt and no seasoning other than the tartare sauce we were offered was added to our take out bag. No utensils included, no napkins included either. Difficult to eat both our fish and coleslaw without a fork. Google search touted this establishment as one of the top 3 in Barrie. Would have to try the others time we pass through Barrie, so we can compare. Not that impressed.

Now where do I start? This is the BEST fish and chips place in Barrie hands down! Everything is fried to perfection not super greasy great portions staff is amazing the owners really love and honor what they do which shows how they treat their customers. Their fish is good texture and their batter isn't super thick you actually taste fish more than the batter LOL (as it should be). You will not be disappointed!

Seriously don't waste your money anywhere else also the only reason and lesson we learned don't order fish and chips on Sunday and Monday because Danny's is closed thamk you to all the staff there who are so nice and care about the food they put out.

Usually good service but tonight they were off their game. First they were out of gravy, and then it took 40 minutes to receive my food as people who ordered after me and another gentleman received their food first. When I asked if there had been confusion I was told the kitchen staff mess up the order of orders sometimes. If this is the case they need a better system because I shouldn't be waiting more than twice as long as someone else for my food when we ordered at the same time! Once I got home I discovered the portion was much smaller than usual and that the batter was actually separate from the fish. All in all it was a disappointing meal from a restaurant I had come to trust.

The first time i been there, I ordered one dinner to share and try first, and they split the portion for us, which was a large portion. And charged us for one meal. I thought WoW finally a good place to go for fish and chips up north. Then second time I went. I Was hungry with a friend and couldnt wait for dinner at home. So I told him to stop at this fish n chips and we can share a meal. I order one meal to share, and they split the plate for us like they did last time, but when I asked for the bill. They said that we ate 2 portions and FORCED us to pay for 2 dinners..... One of the workers there explain the fact, They have a worker on the disability side, and he didnt hear me say one meal to split. But she was really rude and reluctant to help us get to the bottom of our problem. She didnt even ask our waiter what he heard us order, and kept telling us to pay. I wanted to ask the waiter we ordered from to see what he heard but as I approached him, she was like ignore them, I have already dealt with them............... I found that very rude and unfair. I said fine we will pay and never come back. And she tried pushing us to the back of the line, behind customers who didnt even have their Bill's ready. I called her a B**** because there was no other word for me to use. I have never been so MAD or EVER swore during an arguement. And one of the other customer in line said: "yeah you are being a B****" and she finally cashed us out. I never been to a restaurant, where they force you to pay for their mistake and be so rude about it. I honestly did not know what to do. I wanted to call the police because I felt robbed! But I was already late to go pick up my baby from the babysitter. BLACKLISTED

This F&C restaurant is in a location easy to find with lots of parking. It’s clean, spacious and the staff are very pleasant. Fries are excellent, fish has light flaky batter and is cooked perfectly. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars being charged $1 for hot water. If a restaurant is charging for water they should at minimum advise you of the cost to avoid surprise when your bill arrives. At least I wasn’t charged for condiment use :) Other than that one day I will return for more excellent fish and chips!

Got take out. Coslaw was a little to vinagery for my liking and fries were a little under done but it was busy when i went but the fish was done perfect. Halibut was cooked perfectly with a buttery crispy batter. Deffinatly would recommend.

I have been going to Danny's since around 2001 when they were in Stroud. We always order the two and few and 2 people if not 3 could eat it comfortably. Today I ordered a take out, two and a few, and when they gave me my order I thought it felt lighter than normal but I shrugged it off. when we unpacked our order we found that the chips portion was half as much or less than we were normally used to receiving. This wouldn't be a big deal if the price was reduced but that was not the case. We barely had enough chips to satisfy the both of us. This was so much of an issue I asked my wife to call them and make sure that we received the correct order and the person on the other end assured us that we did in fact get the correct order and the chip portion was normal portion size. I would be willing to bet the farm that I have been a loyal patron for longer that that person has worked there. It is a sad day that because of our order today that we may never order again from them.

The food was decent. Went here because I checked out the reviews and they had many and scored high overall. Once we got there, we had a couple questions answered with I don't know. Is the strawberry shake made with really strawberries? How much fries does it come with? Maybe the server just started working there? He didn't even try to go ask. Anyhow, go for the halibut, it's much better than the haddock. This is the second fish and chips place I've tried in the area so far. They serve alcohol here and I'm not a drinker so I can understand the popularity. Going to try other ones. So far I like Georges fish and chips the best up here.
