Finally got around to this place for the Lunch Special. Its was a good price and big portion. The batter on the Hadock was really nice and different from others. A lot of fish places in that end of town, after trying all several times this is our favorite and a must try!

The food is as good they have many options from fish and chips to burgers and salads . The fish and chips was good and the sauce was really good too . The place could use a renovation and could be faster . The other thing I think they didn’t change the oil for the fries for a while. I would recommend the food still but maybe take it and have it in a park or somewhere.

So my wife orders two halibuts awhile back from this place. Not only did they charge her more, explaining theres a shortage of halibut, but they give her fish half the size. Not to mention cold and hard fries....lost $44 for wasting my time at this place. Overpriced, Garbage...please have some pride and offer a good product especially when your charging that amount. Last time I'll buy from Captain Geroges.

My daughter and i went today because we both love fish and chips, and for the fried clams. It's said you can't please everybody...without lying or buying them off, so i didn't worry about the poor review or two. Service was great ,the food delicious and prompt...altogether worth my drive. Food was fine. They are rude. They forgot to give us a piece of fish, so I had to split one with my wife. After calling them back they said we could check the video footage., and she definitely remembers giving us correct amount of fish. I guess the piece of fish got eaten by the other pieces of fish? Bunch of morons over there. They lost a lot of business today.

Captain George's is nice. It's a fish and chips place, so not too much focus on decor or anything. It wasn't too busy when we came in, but the tables were not completely clean either. Maybe someone had just left? I will say though the staff are nice young people, and the food is good.

Halibut tastes good but the portion is small and SUPER thin. I ordered 4 pieces of halibut and I feel like its not equivalent to two pieces of any other place in Barrie in size. Keep in mind when you order that one piece will not serve one person and you might enjoy it.

We went for lunch on a Sunday here. Being new to the city, this was one of the very few fish and chips places that had hassle free parking and dine in option. The location is tucked away from all the parking issues in Brockville. Hence the decision to go there. But I am glad I went there with my dad. The staff was very friendly, and we had a wonderful time at George's. I had a plate of fish ( halibut) and chips, as seen in the picture. And we shared an appetiser which included clams and shrimps. It was supposed to be scallops as well, but they had a shortage at the time. Although I wished they compensated for the lack of scallops by tossing in some shrimps, I have only good things to say about the food they gave. The batter was so light and crispy on the shrimp. It was delicious! The fish was light and flaky within the crispy batter as well. Fries could be crispier and less time in the fryer would do justice to them. I would go there again for sure.

I was in around the beginning of November. The Fry-guy, Curtis came out to visit me while I was eating. Not only does he have a 10/10 name this guy is a fish frying master. If all of my internal organs were to be replaced entirely with Curtis-fried fish, that would be a happy and peaceful way to go. This guy deserves a pizza, a take home fish and unconditional praise. I will be returning when I visit Barrie in December.

The two piece for $19.50 on the menu felt misleading as they were very small ( one fillet piece cut in half ?). Other places would label it as 1 piece for $15 to $20$. They have new pricing as well when we visited.

Not only was the food way over priced but the wait time was horrible we were told 15 minutes I've been sitting here for 45 minutes past the 15 minute mark I've seen people go in after me and leave with their food I would never recommend this place to anybody you give someone a time to be there to pick up their food you don't make them wait 45 minutes to an hour longer

Ordered dinner with Gravy, which was paid for. Upon calling to let them know it was not in the bag, they explained I could come back or be put in book to get free gravy next visit. Not sure how it's free when I already paid for it. Also no utensils in the bag for fish, yet when I asked she explained " I asked if you wanted any condiments". I think she should look up the definition of condiments. Will never go Back. Be warned.

Expensive, not quite the bang for your buck. For 1 piece halibut and chips you can pay the same amount elsewhere and get 3-5 large pieces of halibut and a basket of chips. (costing the exact same) I'm born English and I can tell you from experience. You get an entire fish and chip meal with the price of $10. Not over $20. The food quality may be good, but portion not so much!!!

There seems to be new management. That being said I was not happy with the portions given. I went in and asked for the 6 piece 2 chip special and what I got was 6 small pieces of Halibut (about palm size) and a small box of chips. This meal does not include coleslaw. So I received 2 small boxes and 2 large coleslaw for $65. I asked if that was all and the lady behind the counter said it was. Will not be going back there.

Amazing food, great value. I haven't had an opportunity to try all the fish and chip shops in Barrie yet, but of the ones I have tried this is hands down the best bang for your buck. The 2pc halibut and chips w/ salad is more than enough for two adults and will cost you right around $20 after tax. Phenomenal value. Fish is some of the best I have ever had, and that includes the ones I have tried in both the UK and Ireland. Chips are fresh and hand cut. Salad is also very good. Great gravy. No complaints whatsoever. Also have tried the souvlaki which rivals any Greek restaurant in the area. Overall great place to try, I stop in every few weeks and have been consistently since it re-opened on Mapleview couple years ago.

Use to come here all the time with our family to dine/takeout at least once a month. Use to be a lively place, fast service, very friendly and affordable prices. With all that being said me and my family won’t be back again. We placed and order and not only did the server forget items in my order “pop/gravy/condiments” but the fish portion sizes where thinly cut/small, dry and had a orange colour to it? Called and spoke to a young lady who told me they got a new cook and manager, and that’s how the fish is now. Wont be back.

The take out salad container was packed full and the ingredients were fresh. The Scallops were tasty. The batter on the fish was light and crisp even after a 20 minute drive to get home. The fish itself was good, unfortunately my piece of battered fish was only about 2" by 2" big. If that's all they give you then I won't be returning. How unfortunate.

Ordered a shiskabob and a garden salad, as a take out. Got a Pita with a greek salad after they were specifically told twice what was wanted and not a pita and a greek salad. I also found the fries looked like they had been recooked in very old grease. and the fish was terrible. I will not order from here again, I will return to Dons Fish & Chips first. Captain Georges was disgusting. Pretty bad when you cant get a simple order right. I was going to take the whole thing back but because it was take out and out near Lyn, not worth wasting my gas. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. They will never get a second shot.

Went here for dinner on Friday January 4th. When we walked in we were asked to take a seat. The only 3 tables available were full of dirty dishes so we sat down at one of them thinking it would be cleared soon. After 10 minutes, a sever came buy and asked us if we were done and wanted our bill (we hadn’t even ordered yet). Another server then came by and cleared our table and took our simple order of 2 halibut and chips. People came and went while we waited for our food. One table sat down 30 mins after us and promptly got there food (our server didn’t put our order in)After now being in this establishment for 40 mins and only getting our drinks (which were also wrong) we decided to leave as we were treated like we didn’t even exist. Our server was at the cash register when we walked up. She said “oh are you guys done already?” to which I said “done already? We didn’t even get our food” She then said “oh you should have said something”. Not only did she blame us for her incompetence, she didn’t offer any apology for NOT putting our order in AND we had to pay for the two pops we had. I never minded paying the money for the small portions at Captain George’s but as soon as you’re invisible there service wise, it’s time to go elsewhere. Won’t be back.

Update, it appears that Captain George has cut two ounces off of the typical portion size. It really changes the value of the meal. Even though it is less it is now a little harder to swallow than when it was bigger portions.

Loved this place. The owners were super friendly. It was clean, the food was reasonably priced and I enjoyed my food with no complaints. They were much better when they first opened The last time we went the fish was so small and they said it was because they were almost out of fish and said sorry. Tonight we went back to give them another try and they sane thing. 2 orders 1 piece with fries, the other piece with salad . The fish both pieces totalled the size of a piece of bread. It was mostly batter. The fish was paper thin. It cost almost 30 bucks. Complete waste of money. We will never go back.

I used to go about once a week food is great and prices were reasonable I’ve lowered the rating for the pricing not the quality The prices have jumped up like crazy, for example I love mushy peas with my meal and used to order them all the time, however since They now charge $3.25 for a small mushy peas when they used to be $1.50 for a large., I lost my appetite for them. So now I go about every 2 months or so and I get my fix of British mushy Peas from Campbell’s British shop on Burton avenue for $1.99 So they lost a lot of business from me.

Stopped by today on my way home from camping and I was shocked as the reviews did not complement the food I got. We ordered 2 pc of halibut, fries and coleslaw. The portions were small but we looked past that as we had a big craving for fish and chips that we were looking to satisfy. The fish was very dry, when we bit into it it was like we were eating dry overcooked chicken tenders. The fries were definitely re-fried as some were golden brown and the rest were very dark brown. The coleslaw was alright and that’s all I’d recommend this restaurant for. Unfortunately, wife and I had a very bad experience today.

Before I tried Captain George's I read some on line comments and many said the portions were small and overpriced but I tried them anyway. The portions where anything but small and the prices well in line with other GOOD fish and chip outlets in Toronto and Barrie. I can honestly say that Captain George's fish and chips are some of the best I have had anywhere. There staff are friendly and service was fast I love fish and chips but have never found anywhere in Barrie which could meet my expectations since I move from Toronto. I now have a dependable source for my F&C fix

Arrived on time food was not ready waited 10 mins. Got home and half the order was missing. Called the restaurant and found out the server never put the whole order in. Halibut dinner always a great deal. My wife and I have been in several times since they moved back to the south end of Barrie. Service has always been fast. However my wife went in last night and ordered her usual halibut and chips. The restaurant started to get busier. Other people that came in after her got their food before her. She complained told the counter person who got the manager. The manager gave her a coupon and her cold meal that had been waiting over a half-hour. This has never happened before and I am sure it won't happen again . We just wanted to make the owner aware. We will be back and hopefully the service will have improved.

This place was the first fish and chips place I've had in Innisfil and is my absolute favourite. I tried the other, high rated place in Barrie and it just doesn't compare. Maybe it's popular because of location or cause of the drinking, but I don't drink. If you don't care about the alcohol, and you like good ol' fish and chips, you have you try this place. I love the halibut, especially cause it's so meaty here and my girlfriend tried the haddock and says it's pretty tasty too. And they don't overbread their fish! And to top it all off, you get a better deal over here. There's a two piece of halibut with one fries deal, and they give you lots of fries, it's enough for two people. Really good fish and chips, really good price and closer to where we live in Innisfil, easily a good meal to default to. I wonder if all the other George's fish and chips locations have the same standards? Enjoy! You won't be disappointed.
