Excellent choices and I feel more confident that the fish is more fresh and properly maintained since they have a large stock and a big clientele. Right by the bike path and a highway, very convenient location to get to if you are using those modes of transportation. This is the only place in the city to buy fish, and I've been to all the farmer markets around here here. Always ask for ice so you keep your fish cold while you are on your way home!

Hello, First I would like to say that the delivery was good, on time and well packaged. However, I ordered 2 "live" lobsters for New Year but they both arrived very DEAD, smelling very strong. I don't know how long they have been dead for so I am not sure if I should try to eat them or just throw them away. We had to end the crazy year of 2020 on a note of Disappointment :(

Already having a restaurant account and done previous business with these guys, I went in to place an order for 8 boxes of oysters. Not knowing all the kinds of oysters they had available, I asked to try some before purchasing a large amount ($1000 of oysters is a lot for a small business). After trying 2 or 3 the manager was called to ask if he could help me. After explaining what I was looking to do he exclaimed that they couldnt just give out 20 or 30 oysters to everyone who walks in...will not buy anything from this place again - and will tell other chefs.

I really like La Mer for fresh fish. Prices are reasonable, service is excellent, and the selection is great. Overall, the place is clean, and spacious. Where to start. La Mer is by far the best place to buy fresh fish in Montreal. The fact that many of the best restaurants in the city get their seafood from here should be a hint! Super friendly staff, excellent selection and good prices given the quality what’s not to like... They also always take the time to explain how to cook something new when you ask or completely clean and fish for free. Also if you want to try a caisse of oysters they let you try one or two first (just make sure to not abuse of this privilege) I try and go at least once a week and will be for a long time to come!! So while a little out of the way (though easy with their parking and the highway nearby) do yourself a favour and visit.

Horrible horrible horrible no other way to describe my experience buying fish today at La Mer. i have been a big fan of La Mer for quality and selection for many years and not shy about promoting the place to many people. However today’s experience in a time of social distancing was unbelievable, possibly criminal and needs to be addressed so you and your loved ones don’t risk their lives. The under supervised staff had no intelligent system of crowd control in the store. No dedicated door person, forget about a guard. People walking in and forming a line inside to get into the cold room (10 minutes) for fresh fish, another random line intersecting to wait to have my fish cleaned (25 minutes) And yet another intersecting line to get to the cash. Over 30 people in the store at the same time all crossing each other repeatedly with less than 1/2 wearing masks. One client sneezed several times with no mask and hands full in the middle of the crowded area. SOLUTION: KEEP PEOPLE OUTSIDE WAITING NOT IN 3 LINES IN THE STORE. There should never be 30 people in the store. 8-10 max. So simple. Same efficiency with less risk! You will process the same amount of clients but they will be safe. MAKE MASKS AND HAND WASHING MANDATORY IN SUCH A SMALL STORE. Many stores have a mandatory mask policy, or else limit client even further. I spent 40 minutes buying and cleaning 1 snapper. Never again, management really made little intelligent effort to protect clients and staff. Hire a consultant if necessary. Absolutely disgusting.

I placed an order for 1x chutoro(fatty tuna belly) and 1x akami (red tuna) As you can see in the picture, chutoro has barely any fat and it's basically akami. Fish was super fresh. Specifically went today, Thursday, since I had the day off and they usually recieve fresh fish on Wednesday. It was worth braving the lines and standing in the cold. They are taking the social distancing seriously and only allowing a certain amount of people in. Btw if you order online, check to see if they have a separate area for pick up. They had one today because the lines for in person shopping was long.

Visited on our last day staying in Montreal this past Thursday and one particular staff member went out his way to help us make an incredible last meal. The service and supply there were second to none. Definitely worth checking out for any tourist who wants to escape eating out and make something special while they're in town. Great choice, great service (including on the phone for pre-orders), it's fresh and clean. I go there regularly to recharge in all fish/seafood items and often find things I never see anywhere else. They're particularly impressive on oysters and full/uncut fishes you can buy whole and they'll prepare for you. The cold room IS cold, try going on a damp summer day...that's an experience!

Finalement, nous decidons de prendre un homard egalement, le prix affiché du homard vivant d'origine Quebec etait a 39.90$/kg et en verifiant l'etiquette sur le sachet du homard apres que le poissonier l'ai emballé, j'ai vu que le prix etait a 66$/kg. J'ai donc montré au jeune poissonier que c'etait pas le prix affiché, ce dernier est parti voir son superieur et m'a indiqué qu'il y avait une erreur dans l'affichage du prix.... tres tres étonnant. Bref, un service en déclin (a l'exception de certains poissoniers, par exemple le jeune français qui vient d'arriver) et des prix en hausse
