Soooooooooooooooo good! Way better restaurant in every possible way than when Syed owned it! Excellent upkeep, and thankfully a lot of money invested in it to make it a true pub experience! I'm so glad the filthy carpet that was there under Syed's time there has long since been ripped out!
I wouldnt say "the best" since I already had fish 'n chips in Australia and New Zealand but they're alright for Edmonton. Their deep fried oysters though are amazing (had to order 3 plates of them with my wife)
Best fish & chips in Edmonton! Wonderful customer service and a great venue to relax with cold beer on tap. We dropped in recently to live entertainment on a Friday night, the place was packed and the patrons were all in a festive mood; good thing we had made reservations. If you love fish & chips don't miss out on sampling the menu at Sir Winston's Fish & Chips!
Out with Friends the four of us. Has been awhile & we always enjoyed coming here...? I think the french fries are changed? Not as nice or bulky as they were before.......We shared some Halibut & this also smaller in volume. Was still tasty but you can certainly know the differences. Economics I guess?
This is a quiet family friendly restaurant and they make some of the best Fish & Chips in Edmonton. Fast and courteous service. They even serve Mushy Peas if you want that real authentic British taste of home. Highly recommended.
we came all the way from Calgary and stopped here on a whim! But this was some of the best fish and chips especially the salmon! Fresh tasting and crispy chips! Topped only by the lovely staff and owner cannot recommend enough!
This is the only place I know that has salmon for fish and chips. I’ve tried a variety of the fish here, and they’re all great! The batter and fries are perfectly crispy. The other fried seafood and chowder are ok, but nothing special. I would recommend just the fish and chips. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. I would recommend a reservation if you have a large party, as they can get busy at times. The prices are a bit higher than other places, but you can tell they use good quality ingredients.
Visiting my friend here in Edmonton, from Vancouver, B.C. This has been an incredible experience and I appreciate the owner being so kind. The fish was very fresh and the batter had a great taste. It was great to have such great fish similar to what I have at home. Will be back again.
What a great meal at Sir Winston's. This was the first time we visited the restaurant for their gluten free offerings. They have gluten free fish and chips with a dedicated fryer. They also make onion rings, have a dessert cheese cake and will soon have a gluten free gravy. They also have gluten free beer and cider now! We will be back!
Seriously the best service, and the fish is the bomb! Perfectly battered, not greasy or doughy, and fresh! Large portions, highly recommend this little gem!!
Friendly service and the food was great!
I was pleasantly surprised! Great fish and chips, owners are hands-on and very good value. I personally like my calamari a bit spicey but they were otherwise perfect, soft like butter. The evening we were there they had live entertainment which was wonderful. I 100% recommend this place!
The owner and his team are top top class. I wish more restaurants had this kind of kindness and hospitality. And that’s just speaking to the people….the fish is on another level, best in the city. Keep up the great work, it shows every step of the way!
Good place in the south side for fish and chips. The battered cod I tried was crispy perfection as were the fries. The clam strips are also worth trying. Very friendly service. Recommended.
The absolute best fish and chips this city has to offer, hands down! My dad loves fish and chips. The last time he was up for a visit, I brought him here. Several months later, he still talks about going back to Winston's to treat my mom to the best fish and chips he has ever had. He even had seconds of their homemade tartar sauce; until he ate here he didn't like tartar sauce????. Think about my next visit already!
Went here last week. Around 2pm. Food was average at a ok price. Service was not great. The server asked if we wanted our the bill while we were still eating. The server seemed to be rushing me and my friend to hurry up even though there was plenty of open tables and no line at the door. Won't be recommending this place.
Nice place to go out and grab a meal. We had 5 of us and 1 is gluten-free. Everything was fantastic. We had the family meal which says 4+. Definitely +. We could have had 2 more and still all would be full. The fish pieces are very large and delicious. Fries were crisp and the tartar sauce was some of the best I had. Good value. I will be back
Atlantic Cod fish and chips deal. Comes with 2pc Atlantic Cod, chips, coleslaw and a pop. Tasty food. Staffs are very friendly and cheerful. Dining area is neat and clean. Quick service. Take out also available. They are going to launch service in a food truck as well. Overall a very good experience and fine dining option.
The cod was very good. The batter was nice and it wasn't greasy. The portion of fish is pretty big so keep that in mind when ordering. The fried oysters were really nice as well. The chips weren't to our liking texture wise. But I heard you can order their old ones if you'd like. The deep fried scallops were okay too, nothing crazy. Clam chowder was tasty, just a touch under seasoned coming out of the kitchen, but theres salt on the table.
Had a wonderful gluten free fish and chips lunch today. Even tried gluten free onion rings, so tasty!! Thank you for all the care and attention you do to keep the dedicated fryer and cooking area free from cross contamination. I will be back!!
Huge portions of fish, not heavy battered. Friendly staff and the best part...totally gluten free fryer for those with celiac disease like myself. The home made gluten-free onion rings are incredible. Overall an excellent dining experience!
Absolutely delicious! Found my favourite fish and chips in Edmonton :) the prices are also really good for the amount of food you get.
Excellent! Best fish and chips in town.. But a warning to the wise, a little on the expensive side.
Classic British Fish and Chips, large portions, great take. The server was excellent!
Delicious haddock and chips always at the food truck at Ellerslie Gift & Garden.
I was happy with our visit as fish was fried perfectly. The batter was nice and crispy with the fish being moist and tender. The quality of the food was pretty good. I was happy to have fried fish that was not dripping in old oil like most places. The mushy peas and curry was also delicious. I gave 4/5 because the chips did not taste or look like freshly cut and fried. Possibly frozen but certainly not cut, fried then served per order. However they were reasonably good but could be better. Overall it was a positive experience and the staff were very friendly. The place was clean and pleasant. I would absolutely go again as the fish is amazing
The place and the personnel are amazing. It's kind of lively environment with very friendly staff. Much happy to visit again.
Tried out Winston's food truck at Kingsway Mall yesterday and it was some of the best fish and chips I have had. Great service, generous portions, lots of different condiments and everything tasted really good. Will definitely check out their restaurant and see what else they have on the menu. Highly recommend!
This place was recommended to my partner, so we came here for a date. The food was amazing, it was the best fish and chips I ever had. Service was great too, our waitress was very friendly and polite:) We will surely be returning soon!
We stopped in for supper on a Sat night. Place was bustling with what seemed to be regular customers. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was absolutely spot on. We both had Alaskan Pollock. Coleslaw was fresh and delicious. Cozy, friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Definitely will make the trip back for more.
My mom and my aunt are Celiac. Eating out used to be a nightmare because of how little options they were offered. Eating here? A dream come true! Gluten free onion rings and chicken wings, and beautiful fish that they could eat without worry! The food was absolutely amazing and the atmosphere was even better! Friendly staff and great comfort food!
Owner was friendly, gave great history on the place and recipie. The fish was amazing , a tad on greasy side and the bigger pieces were a little more mushy inside then I'd love but over all the experience was 5*. Tartar sauce was made in house and amazing , and the fries were the ones with the crispy exterior. Can't wait to go back.
The food was just awesome. I had one of the meat pies which was so flavorful! I think I have found my new favorite place for fries. Very attentive to customers. Very friendly staff.
I was craving fish and chips and we really enjoyed our time here. The staff here are friendly and give great service. It was our first visit and she was able to give us good opinions on what to try and the differences between the fish choices. We ordered the halibut and butter chicken pot pie to share between two. The butter chicken pot pie was unique and I'm glad we tried it. I'll be back again!
I had the pleasure of speaking with Jay this afternoon in regards to ordering a gift certificate for my family and he was absolutely outstanding. Despite my background noise of juggling my two young fellows, while attempting to place an order, he patiently listened to my request and went above and beyond to ensure I could complete the transaction efficiently and effectively! When my family and I have had the fortune of dining here in the past, we have had amazing customer service and the food really tasted authentic and home cooked. I think the fact that I would purchase a gift certificate for others speaks volumes of just how awesome Winston’s is. Please help this incredible business succeed even through pandemic times! They have a superb online ordering system as well!
As an Australian, I have quite an amount of experience in the consumption of fish and chips, this consists on the sampling of a variety of fish and I even developed the knack of knowing instinctively how old the oil is when frying chips. Since moving to Canada, I have not found a single fish and chip shop that I like ... well, my search is over! I first came across Winston's Fish & Chips at the Taste of Edmonton, I sampled their offering and was impressed, so impressed that my wife and I decided to pay a visit to their actual restaurant. The proprietor has worked hard to create the environment of a "traditional" British themed restaurant, it is warm and inviting setting. The waiting staff was very warm and friendly, and willing to answer any questions concerning the menu. Our dinners were, in a word, excellent ... the fish was well cooked and "fluffy" (just melts in the mouth), the chips were extra crispy (best chips I have ever had), and the coleslaw much better than what I have had in other fish and chip shops. For dessert, I decided on the Sticky Date Pudding, I have had many Sticky Date Puddings in the past but "OMG", this was the best I have ever tasted. We had the opportunity to meet with one of the owners, Jay, we found him very personable, he obviously takes great pride in his offerings, explaining where he sources his menu items and how he is always looking to improve the quality and taste of his offerings. My wife and I will definitely be returning to WInston's Fish & Chips and also recommending the restaurant to others.
So sad it took me 4 years to find a good fish and chips place... and I managed to find one just as good as my favorite back home. Service was great owner was nice and the FOOD WAS AWESOME. So hard to find a place that does amazing beer free batter. Good portion sizes and cooked to perfection. Will definitely be back. My new favorite fish and chips place.
We've been wanting to try this place for a very long time and tonight we finally got a chance to! Customer service was great as well as the food. What fascinated me the most were the UK tea towels displayed on the walls and tables. Food was tasty and just the right batter. The savory pies are worth trying as well.
Hi stopped in finally after moving from mississauga. Nice place-great staff.got take out had a beer while waiting.halibut meal w pieces and chips-delicious but 1 piece was half the size of the other! A burrito and a hockey puck.i will go again.pricey but tasty.
My wife suggested we go for fish and chips which is something we’ve only ordered at chain restaurants. As you can imagine, since we didn't have any knowledge of a specialty fish and chips restaurant in YEG, I had to do my research. As most people who dine out, they all want friendly service and quality food. My research narrowed me down to 2 places, and we decided upon Winston’s for our first time at a dedicated fish and chips restaurant. We ordered the 2 piece Cod and Chips Meal Deal, Newfoundland Savoury Dressing (something I have never had, but heard about) and Gravy, and then capped our meal off with a Sticky Toffee Pudding. The meal was hot and crisp, and didn’t taste greasy or oily which could potentially happen with deep fried food. The service was efficient, friendly, and down to Earth, and Jay took the time to talk to us. Will definitely be back as there are so many other things to try on the menu, and I can see this as a spot for my young family to start some new traditions. Thanks again, Jay!
Have been to this place twice, once before Covid for dine-in and recently take-out. Enjoyed the fish and chips immensely. Their Tartar sauce is one of the best I've tasted, both times the food was hot and fresh. The service is very friendly and quick. Met the owner Jay, on both occasions, who is very welcoming. For takeout he asked if we are eating in the car or at home and ensured to give us extra cutlery and napkins. Definitely going to go back.
Great Fish & Chips. Service with a smile and very friendly owner. Live music starting on Fridays. We will sure to back. I’m looking forward to trying the Steak and Kidney Pie!
Pleasant but not quite as good as we had been led to believe.
The Mushy Peas were unadulterated and exceeded expectations. All of the fish was superb and the chips were perfectly crispy. On top of it all, the service was awesome. Would go again.
I ordered delivery from here recently. In terms of food, I got their 2 piece haddock meal, 2 piece cod meal, and onion rings. The haddock was really enjoyable. They were large pieces, well flavoured, and the batter held even though it was delivery. The chips were also really good. The cod was also decent. The biggest thing was that it became too greasy after one piece.
Please remove any Britishness you have for your business- I had fries today and OMFG ???? they were disgusting and absolutely nothing like the nice homemade looking ones in your pictures, the ones your served me were soggy, had some weird batter coating on them and tasted awful. Totally disappointed!!!!
Disgusting $40 container of oily mush! This restaurant has gone completely down hill since the new owners. The food is absolutely gross and the service is just as bad! They have no right cooking food they know nothing about. Stay away...very far away!
Best place in edmonton for fish and chips the owner has been nothing but kind and friendly to my wife and I we even had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding here a few years ago before we got married this is our "spot" great atmosphere Great staff Great service and really damn good food! Quality and portions are great and their coleslaw is to die for 10/10 place to go on a date or with family.
Winston's Fish & Chips is the first restaurant my wife and I have been to, since dine in was re-allowed . We we’re definitely not disappointed. The restaurant was busy and yet we still got our food in a timely manner. As for the food, I can honestly say that we have found our favourite fish and chips and related restaurant. The portions are generous and tasty. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a good English fish and chips. And yes I’m British so I’m fussy when it comes to fish and chips. My wife had the deep fried oysters and she devoured them, so I’m going to presume that they were great too.
Okay so I came across this place through TripAdvisor. The photos we had seen of the sizes of a piece of fish looked like a joke. A piece prettt much as big as the plate just didn’t seem real. In walking into this place I have never actually been to a fish and chips place in Europe. I imagine it may look something like this or be as homey as this one is. Wonderful colors on the wall and art all around. Loved to look around and see all the random things around. We stopped in tonight to check it out and try this big fish and chips. We started with some calamari and mozzarella sticks. Now mozzarella sticks are pretty safe bet, these ones had a really crisp putter that was nice. On the calamari it was so damn tasty that we did not even need to really use the sauce, yes the sauce is good but stand alone it’s delicious! Not over cooked and easy to chew and they actually give a lemon slice! A big slice of one as well ensuring you can cover your calamari, very nice! Our fish and chips came out and no joke, it’s damn near as big as the plate. We got one piece and chips each and got damn! That was overly filling but filling as in able to eat it all! The batter wa snot stupidly filling right off the bat nor was there an air pocket or over coating of batter. Again they give a massive slice of lemon to coat your fish in and changes the color of the batter as it soaked up that juice Making a crisp bottommbatter and a soft top batter that just need a little tartar sauce (again, do not need the tar tar sauce but it’s a good addition). So eating and enjoying it all was delightful! The coleslaw had the addition of dill to it, totally make it a better taste then the usual that is all around. All done by a server working the floor herself and absolutely nailing it! Didn’t slip up our order and we did not have to wait to get our food or a revisit. We will be stopping in and I recommend stopping in to anyone who likes true fish and chips To sum it up, I will say this is maybe the best relish and chips in Edmonton. The environment alone is reason enough to stop in.
Had the 2 piece Haddock full meal deal and even though it was delivery the fish was crisp and fresh and the fries were as well. Definitely made me feel like I was back in the UK eating yummy fish and chips especially with the vinegar glaze to add extra authenticity.
Possibly the best fish and chips we’ve ever had. The service was excellent. Our food was prepared promptly and to perfection. The portions were excellent and so were the staff. We even had a brief encounter with the owner, who was a remarkable man. The encounter was very refreshing and much-needed. I would highly recommend eating here to anyone.
Our meal was superb. The portions were generous and everything was done to perfection. Service was fast and friendly, truly couldn't ask for more!
My husband and I love coming here from time to time, even though we live across the city. Delicious food and a nice atmosphere. The staff are great and the place is clean. Haven't been back in a while because of the pandemic, but we hope to go again soon. It's our favourite place for fish and chips.
Really enjoyed it here. Nice ambiance and good food. One small suggestion though would be to move away from battered chips too more traditional ones. Not a real deal breaker though.
Great fish & chips! Crispy fish & large portions. Fish is flavourful & fresh. Chips are crispy-even with take-away. Our favourite!
We loved it, excellent food, the best customer service, amaizing fish and chips.
Fish and chips don't taste british at all. The batter on the fish is terrible!! Its like the stuff the Chinese put on deep fried shrimp at the Chinese buffet, nothing like a real fish and chips battery. Mushy peas taste terrible too. 2/10.
Such a great experience, great customer service and great food. Tried their Haddock and it was simply amazing! One of the best spots in the city for Fish and Chips.
A small hole in the wall place from the outside but once inside its warm and welcoming atmosphere invites you inside. Lots of seating and friendly staff make this place glad we stopped in for supper. But the food was even better! The Coleslaw was the best I've ever had and the fish'n'chips just continued the experience. My wife found it a little greasy but no complaints from me. All the ketchup and tartar sauce you want, they have drink and food specials and fair pricing. Lots of parking. I may have just found my favourite fish'n'chips joint in Edmonton!
