This place is old school, and I mean that in the best way possible. They have a huge selection of fresh and frozen seafood. I purchased 2 lbs. Of Mussels, a half pound of Japanese previously frozen thawed scallops, and 4 frozen Rock Lobster tails. The mussels and scallops tasted like they were just picked from the ocean. Super fresh. The rock lobster tails were incredible. Lots of meat in those tails. I highly recommend this spot for your seafood needs. It was a little expensive (the rock lobster tails were about $20 each), but you get what you pay for and everything was of superior quality.

Only place I go for excellent seafood. They take it seriously and there’s never an up sell. They will help you choose the right stuff for any event (be it dinner for one or a backyard party for 50). When it comes to seafood, you need to trust who you buy it from. It’s easy to sell something under a different name or tell you something is sustainably caught when it isn’t. Boyd’s doesn’t do that. Would you go to a veterinarian if you break your leg? Heck no. So when you want seafood you come here... not the grocery store.

The sushi grade salmon and tuna here are great! At first we were a little weirded out that the salmon was frozen, but it turned out to be perfect buttery melt in your mouth salmon sashimi. Looking forward to our next home made sushi night.

I really thought it would be and I wanted it to be a positive experience. My boyfriend sent me to swing by and pick up fish for dinner. He loves their shop and service. But the lady working there was not friendly and when I asked for a whole fish, she gave me a speech about how anyone who wants a whole fish calls ahead of time. She tells me if my boyfriend has been there before he should know that because they don't always have whole fish. My boyfriend has lived in Calgary for 30 years has never called ahead and has always had great service. He has never been told that. She gave me no options. I read out a list of fish and she only continued to tell me the same thing. How about non whole fish? Only salmon, she said. I left. So sad. My boyfriend loves Boyd's. I never want to be back there and spoken to like that again. If she doesn't have it, just say that "we ran out" and apologize. It's not hard to be nice.

Fantastic fresh fish selection, staff are very nice & knowledgeable, service is fantastic. These guys went the extra mile to offer cooking advice, fish suggestions, and find me a specific fish through special order. Had gone to a different store previously and only options offered where what they had, no help or suggestions. The Sable fish here is delicious, I'd recommend it for a nice BBQ fish. My new favorite fish store.

Called two weeks before a very important birthday dinner to reserve frozen lobster tails. When I picked them up and asked if they were the newest of the frozen, the snotty little man behind the counter (I think he is an owner) was visibly indignant at my question. Got home (an hour out of Cowtown) to discover my $70 (2) lobster tails were FREEZER BURNED!!! Won't be shopping there again, snotty little man!!

They advertise fresh seafood is always served, yet it can never be fresh unless it is right from the ocean to plate. Fish and chips, Chips are not crunchy Fish batter is crunchy but saturated with oil, this tells me the are recycling oil as it looses its stability and saturates what they deep fry. Will never eat there again. Sorry, I know times are tough for us all, But please use fresh oil when cooking so food doesn't taste or smell stagnant

I am from Nova Scotia and I have spent months looking for haddock in Calgary. Not only did I find Haddock at Boyd's, I found FRESH haddock. I've been eating haddock for 30 years and I've eaten it the same day it's been caught in the ocean. The haddock I got at Boyd's was as good as ANY haddock I have ever eaten. I am so impressed. If you're in Calgary looking for fish, go no further than Boyd's - the prices are fair and the flavour is incomparable. East Coast approved!

This was a major disappointment. I am from Prince Edward Island and wanted to do lobster rolls for a few friends. The frozen pack lobster is expensive and contains a small amount of claw meat and all the rest is extruded from the body. No packs with claw, tail and knuckle meat as is traditional in those packs.These packs are good for soup only. I feel so sorry for Albertans who have no access to decent lobster meat. Shame on you Boyds!

Calgary is not blessed with a lot of good seafood, so Boyd’s is a real gem. This is my go-to spot whenever I want to make something I can’t find in the basic supermarket fish section, and so far they haven’t let me down. They have a good selection of fresh fish, which varies depending on the time of year, and a wide selection of frozen and speciality items like monkfish. Their prices are good - on occasion I’ve found something superior at supermarket price or slightly lower. They often have a choice of offcuts and things on the cheap. This definitely isn’t the place for great service, but honestly I’m not going in for a chat so I don’t particularly care if they aren’t friendly!
