The battery in my watch died and I went to Gateway Home Hardware to get a new one. When I took it home I found I couldn't get the back off my watch so I returned to the store and one of the young men there took it off for me, installed the battery, put it back together again, and made sure it was working, all for no charge. This store will definitely be my "go to" place when I need anything that they carry.

I don't understand why there is so many good reviews. I have dealt with this location a few times in the last few months and 50% of the time there is a girl who is there who has NO PERSONALITY. She just sits there, doesn't smile, doesn't engage in conversation. Most recently, went today for curb side pick up. They posted signs to call when you arrive. I called for 5 mins with no answer. Approach the door and was yelled at in front of everyone that they are overworked and to step aside. Explained I just needed to give my name to pick up the product since I can't get through the phone line. Very rude. If staff dont enjoy their job they need to quit. Their attitude effects customers and puts customers in a bad mood. Terrible service. Need more staff or better scheduling on a Saturday if staff are actually overworked.

This store has it all but you will need help to find it. Lol. Ask one if the friendly staff and they will provide guidance. Eg "I need a _____" staff reply "yup, that's aisle four, 22 and half feet in on the right and it should be 2 feet off the floor" The store is small and very overstocked. They seem to have a little of everything crammed in. That said, this is often my first stop for hard to find parts and supplies because they frequently have what I need and rarely seem to run out of supplies. I would highly recommend this store.

Great store with a variety of items to pick up with a main level and a downstairs. I'd give it a five-star rating if they would stop asking people to leave their bags and backpacks at the counter when entering the store. They don't ask women to leave their purse at the entrance way? So I don't understand why they ask men to leave their backpacks or bags at the desk with your valuables in it. If it's because of them being worried about people stealing, it's easier to steal with a purse than someone wearing a backpack on their back. I know I can't get anything in or out of my backpack when it's on my back but a woman can steal items easily with their purse. So when entering the store and being asked even though there's a sign, you feel like you're being marked or accused of being a thief as you're entering the store.

This place has everything! Over the years I have found that when you can't find it anywhere else you will find it here. From nuts and bolts to garden tools to houshold items and in great variety too. Their prices are reasonable and the staff helpful and freindly. This store has been around for a long time and has always been operated from the highest principles. It has been made successful, I believe, because of the standards of the family that owns it and those of the Father, Henry Ahola, recently deceased, but who owned it for as long as I can remember and passed it down to his son, who carries on the same tradition.

The handsaw and steel rod I left with may have cost more than at another store, but together they were a lot cheaper than the power tool that I thought I needed, based on YouTube videos. I've been going to Gateway Home Hdwr. for many years. I feel that I am a handyman and often will go here for nuts and bolts and whatever. I have said to others that if you can't find something in other stores, Home Hardware will have it. Staff is very helpful in answering questions and showing you around the store. "If you can't find it in another store, Home Hardware will have it."

This home hardware is the best hardware store in north bay. They have everything you need. I’ve tried the larger stores in town and they always tell me they have to order and I’ll have to wait a few days. I now just come here and I’m always in and out in 5 mins because there are lots of staff who always point me to exactly where it is.

I think most home owners in town already know, but if you dont, or your new, start your shopping here, cuz if James doesn't have it at Home, you probably wont find it elsewhere. This is where Canadian tire and home depot send you when THEY dont have it. They'll bend over backwards to get it for you if they don't. But James even had Blacksmithing coal on hand for me! WHO HAS BLACKSMITHING COAL. ????????????????

If you are looking for anything related to home and garden, they have it. Guaranteed. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. There are two floors and the downstairs that houses electrical, plumbing, and some hardware is not wheelchair accessible. It is also difficult to find things in this store, but not to worry! The staff know every nook and cranny and they will always walk down the correct aisle and grab the item off the shelf. Prices are very reasonable compared to other hardware stores. They also have a wide range of random specialty hand tools so if you are looking for something obscure, they are sure to have it.

Great store with all the weird/speciality things you won't find anywhere else in town. No hardware store carries such a wide range of stuff and at reasonable prices too. That's what makes it so awesome. To correct someone else's review though, they do NOT sell fishing and hunting licences anymore, so don't bother going there to get them, it's a wasted trip. You have to go to a Service Ontario location now, nobody in town sells them anymore.

TIME FOR SOME FUN

This is the best place to go for everything and anything. If you are searching for a certain bolt and thread pattern they will be sure to have it. The stores carries everything you can never find at places such as Canadian tire. I now prefer to go there rather than waste my time and energy driving from store to store in search of whatever it is I need. The staff are awesome

I have went two times in the past week and have had the worst experience both times. I went both times to get a fishing license and the customer service was terrible. The first time we walked in to ask for licenses and the staff laughed, as I guess there was a new system in place. It took a very long time to just fill out simple information for a fishing license, staff should be taught how to efficently use the system. The second time I showed up to get a daily license again and a lady sitting there reading beside one who was working, looked up from her book and said rudely “what are you here for?” I said a license and she said “get to the back of the line” as I was I replied back “yeah I am” and she said “you my as well come back another day” well that would make sense if I wasnt getting a daily license. She was brutual with customer service and maybe things would have been moving faster if she would help her co worker rather then reading her book. Will not be getting licenses there anymore.

I shop there as much as twice a week. Friendly and helpful staff. inventory is second to none but if they don't have your specialty item they will order and have it in about 5 business days. Then they call you when it comes in. All knowledgeable about their products. Your 1st stop shop. You can also do an on-line search "home hardware.ca" and get your product number then call for availability if not noted on site.
