The staff were awesome and the service was above and beyond. As a plus sized women, I didn't think I would find anything in my price range or shape to feel beautiful. They did alterations to fit me exactly, unfortunately I lost so much weight before my wedding that I had to go back. When I went for my fitting, I could put my hands in my top and pull - so seeing my distress, they came up with a plan. They re-altered my dress 2 days before my wedding so there would be no issue and fit. Thanks for making my day awesome.

If you are looking for a wedding dress..start here at the Brides Closet! My experience at The brides Closet in Nanaimo was like a breath of fresh air! The shop is very welcoming and the staff is great. They are genuinely interested in finding you what you want on your budget. They were great! I was allowed to take photos to help in the decision process. I found the perfect dress!! Thanks so much ladies :) I live in New Westminster so I went first to Columbia street where there is like 15 bridal shops I went to 6 of the bigger stores...My budget was 6k, I explained I would prefer to spend half that..all with the exception of one store in New West only pulled dresses in the 5-6k range it seemed like it was all about the budget not what I wanted. My shopping experience in the city felt pushy, rushed and even rude. It was awful and We weren't allowed to take photos at all. Every shop I called on the mainland said no pictures! It's really hard to try on 5 or 6 dresses in an hour and then go home and try to remember the details of each dress..so for that reason alone I wouldn't recommend shopping for a wedding dress anywhere that doesn't allow cellphone photos.

As a plus size Mother of the Bride, I was sure I would not be able to find anything to wear at my daughters wedding. I had looked in various stores in the lower mainland and grew more and more frustrated. I was visiting my friend in Nanaimo and sensing my frustration she suggested we try The Brides closet. She literally had to force me out the door! However we walked in, looked around and I saw mainly gorgeous wedding dresses. I looked at my friend and said let’s go there’s nothing for me. That was when we met Fern. I told her what I was looking for and she went right to a closet that had some of the most gorgeous dresses that were all my size. It was as if they magically appeared. I found the perfect dress. Fern is a delight! The bridal store/house is so comfortable with a lovely rich History. I would definitely recommend The Bride’s Closet for your wedding dress, grad dress, Mother of The Bride or any special event you have coming up. Thank You Fern!

I had a dream wedding dress shopping experience thanks entirely to Fern at The Bride's Closet. My wedding is 10 weeks away, and my mom, MOH and I live in 3 different cities -- I thought that meant that a relaxed, fun dress shopping experience leading to choosing a dream dress was not going to be available to me. Fortunately, I contacted Fern. She was very responsive and helpful as I coordinated an appointment time (which ended up being at the end of the day- and then she kindly stayed open after the shop closing time!!); when I arrived she efficiently pulled several dresses (that fit) that quickly narrowed down my preferences; she was specific about how each dress could/would be tailored for perfect fit and noted possible style adjustments with things like belts and straps; and she very patiently laced up the backs of my top contenders several times each (remember, this was after closing time) as I made my decision. My mom and MOH were also made to feel welcome and included, so we all felt like we'd had a great experience. A couple of notes: I was able to buy the sample dress (so my tight wedding timeline wasn't such a big deal after all); the alterations get done in-store; and Fern told me that alterations get done in order of wedding timeline. So by all accounts my experience has so far been that the shop goes out of its way to work with brides and make the process as easy as possible. Oh, and one last thing- it was *really* hot the day of my appointment, and the store was very pleasantly cool and air conditioned.

The Brides closet is a great!! I am planning my wedding from out of town, and when I saw that the Brides Closet was hosting a Sophia Toli Trunk show, I called them to see whether or not it would be worth it for me to fly in and try on the dresses. I love Sophia Toli dresses, so the idea that there would be even more dresses, not normally available in the ship was tempting! When I called, Lori was absolutely fabulous! She was so helpful in explaining the whole trunk show process and also offered to extend an appointment for me to try on dresses. When I arrived at the Brides Closet, both Lori and Fern, the owner were great! They listened to what I liked and didn't like, my price range, and were attentive and professional. Both Fern and Lori made the experience so fun! They offered advice and information when asked, and were very respectful towards me, my mom, and my MOH. I am SO happy that I found my wedding dress at the Brides Closet! Fern and Lori were so helpful, and because I was from out of town, Fern suggested that I come back with my bridesmaids the next day to look at bridesmaids dresses. Not only that but after hearing how excited I was about my dress and that I couldn't wait to have and wear it, Fern actually found my wedding dress already made in my size at one of the warehouses in the States and offered to order it, so that I would get it sooner! Overall, it was a great experience shopping at the Brides Closet!

Fern is an absolute Genius! The bounty of beautiful dresses available in store and by designer online is impressive, but she will find a way to make any chosen dress your own. With over 20 years experience of all the tricky details one can run up against in the process of alterations, she doesn’t break a sweat! I gave her such a short time frame and a request for a feature that wasn’t in stock so it needed to be ordered and she came through on time with a Stunning creation that is unique to me and I am so grateful. I recommend The Brides Closet to anybody and EVERYbody ???????? I had been to multiple stores in victoria and nanaimo, some were helpful some were ... Not..I wasnt finding anything I was really interested in. Then I booked an appointment at the brides closet!! They were so accommodating and helpful and wonderful! They listened to my experiences so far and knew exactly what I was after.. Even though I Didnt even know what I wanted haha! As soon as I started trying on dresses here I knew id be finding my dress and sure enough! I did not have a good experience when shopping for my wedding dress. I was left in the change room waiting to be un-laced from my dress many times. At one point it took so long my mom had to come help me out of a dress. The service was aweful, I felt like the focus was on the prom girls that were there at the same time as me. I would not reccomend this place. I went to ladybelle bridal the same day and had a wonderful experience!

The Brides Closet was outstanding!. I would recommend the shop to everyone. I am from Calgary Alberta and Fern's customer service beats all the shop here in my city. Fern was so kind to take me in on a Saturday at the end of her day and stay late to help me out. I needed the night to make sure it was "the dress" and Fern came in on Sunday to let me try it on again. This shop is just incredible from there service to the shop itself, worth the travel.

This was our final appointment of the day. We pulled up to the Brides Closet and it is absolutely charming from the outside. We followed the fragrant hedge to the curved staircase and walked through the front door to be greeted by Fern, who was working on her own and was having a busy Saturday. She got right on task, despite already having another client on the go. The inside of the house is painted in lovely, cheerful neutral tones and was actually built in the 1800s. It felt comfortable to be there, not corporate at all! Fern has been running the business for 18 years and her experience and professionalism was impeccable. She actually took the time to ask me about my proposal experience. I'm sure she hears tons of proposal stories, but I didn't feel like she was tired of hearing the answers. She was genuinely interested. The front room where the mirrors are located is intimate and surrounded by accessories, from locally made belts for dresses to sparkly jewelry for every taste. Being surrounded by mirrors wearing incredible dresses, made me feel beautiful even if the dress was a no. Fern gave me some suggestions and magazines to help me out upon my departure. I will happily return, she was honest and helpful and sweet, despite the fact that I was the last client on a busy, sunny Saturday! Thank you. :)

My experience with The Bride’s Closet Started with a photo online of a dress I just had to have. When I found out that the Bride’s Closet carried the designer’s collection I was over the moon, especially knowing that the store was in my town! I quickly sent a Facebook message asking if they carried the Fellini dress style Y21656. Got a response in a matter of hours saying they have the dress and even in my size. I made and appointment for a few weeks later when my mum was in town and did try on a lot of dresses as well as the dress I was there to see. Fern was so helpful and amazing putting me in many dresses and styles for my family and friends even though her and I both knew the first one I came in for was the one! Everything from Alterations Bridesmaid skirts cleaning and many wedding conversations has been amazing and made my day have one less thing to worry about. I highly recommend The Bride’s Closet to any new bride and I know I will still be using Fern and her team for future dress alterations in my future. I would highly recommend The Bride's Closet! We had gone to a few bridal stores in Victoria and had a great experience at one and a disappointing experience at another. We made the decision to take a road trip up to Nanaimo and were we ever glad we did! It was myself and a friend looking for wedding gowns and Fern was amazing! She listened to what we were both wanting (which was complete opposites) and allowed us to try on as many dresses as we wanted. We were with a group of friends and family and Fern was there to help us as much as we needed her to be, but also gave us space to discuss the dresses once we were in them and never made us feel pressured or rushed. In the end she asked us both to try on one more dress each that she had selected (which were nothing like what we had been trying on or had envisioned ourselves in) and her years of experience paid off for both of us! Fourteen years ago our daughter was part of the Miss Ladysmith Program, now known as the Ladysmith Ambassador Program. The Bride's Closet was the supplier for the candidate gowns back then as they still are to this day. Fern has generously allowed candidates to model her beautiful prom and bridesmaid dresses in the annual Fashion Show and also allows the outgoing Royalty to pick a gown to borrow when giving up their crown at the annual Coronation. The Ambassador Program relies on the expertise of staff at the Bride's Closet when we are choosing the style of gown to order each year. One of the highlights for our candidates is when they come into the Bride's Closet and try on gowns for the Fashion Show and they are all treated like Royalty by Fern and her staff. As a committee member I have made many visits to the Bride's Closet and am always amazed at the huge selection of beautiful bridal gowns and on many occasions have been fortunate to witness the pride Fern takes in accommodating brides, their Mom's and or bridal parties. The Bride's Closet is unique as it's in a beautiful heritage home with a bright room with magnificent high ceilings and huge wall mirrors so anyone trying on a dress can see front, back and side views. I must say, it's amazing to happen on a bride saying "Yes to the Dress" with tears in her eyes. I had dropped in one day and a bride had come from Powell River to find her dream wedding gown and she did. Oh yes, there is a photo of Fern and Randy from the famous "Say Yes to the Dress Show" on the display shelf. I believe Fern and her husband Leroy have operated the Bride's Closet for around 22 years and have received the Best Bridal Boutique Experience Award at the Vancouver Island Wedding Awards and were recognized by their peers with the Excellence in The Industry Award. They also offer in-house alterations and a great selection of accessories to accentuate all formal occasions. Hard work and passion for the industry is definitely what the Bride's Closet represents.

With only 5 months to the wedding day I was desperately in search for a dress to wear and discovered this shop that was near by. Fern emailed me the night before to come in the next morning and I was surprised and how quick to responded back! Was really thankful to be able to come in the next day. The ladies at the store were super helpful in helping me a dress and after an hour and a half we finally found the one! I had tried on probably a dozen and had been zipped up into many and they were patient, understanding, and assuring through the entire process. I didn't feel rushed, or like I was giving them too much to do. It was a great experience being in the store. Absolutely wonderful! Fern helped me make the most important decision...the dress! I arrived at The Bride’s Closet with only months until the wedding feeling overwhelmed and had zero inspiration or ideas about what I wanted. After trying about a half dozen of her extensive selection, the first dress she pulled out for me ended up being “the one”. She was patient, honest and very knowledgeable. Fern is always willing to go the extra mile. Nothing seemed to faze her...all my “what if’s” were answered with a calm, reassuring “we’ll make it work”. And she delivered on those words. The alterations and fittings were all done on time, she stored our gowns for us and even gave us the distinct honor of getting dressed at her shop. Our photographer was able to come as well and capture the unique, timeless beauty of her shop while producing some lovely photos we’ll cherish for years to come. The owner, I think her name is Fern, is wonderful. And Hailey her trusty assistant is very patient and also exceptional. I brought my youngest daughter here for a peek at dresses and now don't have to go ANYWHERE else. Fantastic selection, great prices, wonderful attention to detail and exceptional customer service. And Fern does all the alterations which young brides think is no big deal but it's crucial! She allows ample time for appointments anf when we went over our time Hailey took over and was awesome. The greatest experience a mom of the bride can have when the parents are paying and more so for the bride to be. My daughter has seen other shops and dresses and this shop is the one she wants with her "perfect" for her dress at a price parents want. Exceptional quality and selection at just the right price point. I spent 2.5 hours there and can't think of a SINGLE reason why this shop isn't the ONLY one you should go to if you're getting married.

I went to The Bride's Closet for my wedding dress alterations. I had previously purchased my dress in Alberta and it hadn't come in the way it was supposed to. So I was unsure about getting the changes done. I found The Bride's Closet online, looked like a great place, I phoned and was able to get an appointment immediately. Went in for a dress fitting, Fern was great to deal with, completely willing to do everything we asked. The alterations were perfect. I got the back of my dress changed from a zipper to a lace up. It looked fabulous! I was so happy. She even offered to lend us a portable steamer because we had a destination wedding. It was so good of her, and it really helped to get the wrinkles out! I would recommend The Bride's Closet to anyone wanting a great experience! I wish I had bought my dress from there! Thanks so much for all your help.

I’m SO grateful for the experience I had at The Brides Closet today! I had two simple alterations to be made to two gowns that I hadn’t even purchased there and had set an appointment for a rush job this morning. On the way to Nanaimo from Courtenay, my vehicle died ( head gasket it appears ) and the morning was shot. I cancelled my appointments in Nanaimo but shortly after I was lucky enough to find a loaner vehicle to save the day. Not only did Fern finagle a new time slot for me today when they were tightly booked, but she also empathized with my situation and completed the job within an hour and in a cosy effective way so that I could handle my unexpected vehicle problem. I’m SO grateful for her kindness and when I picked up the gowns they were amazingly done! She was said a bright light for me today- thank you Fern!! I highly recommend her boutique! It no wonder they received SO many awards and recognition!

So sorry to see that there have been some negative reviews here. I have had two experiences with the Brides Closet and both were EXCEPTIONAL!!! 1. We have a two year old daughter and she was the flower girl at our wedding. two weeks before the wedding between alterations and home, the dress was stolen from my car. So, i started a frantic hunt to find a new dress. I contacted the brides closet and they sent me pictures of the dress they had in stock. They also offered to custom make her a dress so it could be exactly the same as the one that was stolen (at an extremely affordable price). They gave me nothing but options and we were so grateful for that. 2. My sister (my maid of honor) had a seamstress lined up to let out the top of her dress, as she is quite busty. two days before the wedding the seamstress gave her the dress back and said there wasnt enough room to let the dress out. YIKES!!! so, my sister was given back a dress that didn't fit. We went, quite frantically, to the brides closet and within minutes they had found a solution to the problem and would have it ready for my sister in less than 24 hours. What did they charge her? a rush fee? NO WAY! they charged her $35 I was shedding tears of joy knowing that my sister would be happy and comfortable on our wedding day thanks to the lovely ladies brides Fern, Ruth and others closet. i wouldnt hesitate for one second to recommend this business to anyone i know. Thanks again such an incredible experience.

I met Fern's husband at the Bridal Show in Victoria in September and he was very polite and had some lovely dresses on display. Since my wedding was coming up quickly, their shop sounded perfect as they have brand new dresses that you can buy off the rack...which is exactly what I did!!!!! I found a stunning dress that makes me feel like a million bucks. Fern held it for me while I scrounged up the funds for it and she even delivered it to me in Victoria (as she had to come down for a function). Fern and her team treated me with respect, they were helpful and I would highly recommend checking them out. Their dresses are also in excellent shape, all in individual bags and they have stunning gowns and a large variety to choose from. I'm so happy I made the trip up!

I shopped New Westminster, Vancouver, Langley and all of Nanaimo and it was Fern who found my dress for me by really listening to what I wanted and going out of her way to find it in her archives. I love my dress SOOOO much!! And I am so thrilled with the price and service. The Bride's Closet isn't like a lot of the bridal stores, it is intimate and Fern isn't going to gush over you and be fake and over the top like most wedding dress shops, she is down to earth and there to help, not to push. I really appreciated that and I also loved that it is in an old heritage house, so much character, not cookie cutter. If you want big fancy, fake and phony, this isn't the spot for you but if you want something really special at a fair price sold by someone with years of bridal experience, don't miss out on this little gem in the old city!

My shopping experience was different in that I didn't really shop around at all. I found a picture of the dream dress, and Fern found me the exact dress in a WAY more affordable designer. Her shop also did the alterations, and did such an incredible job. That dress fit PERFECTLY, and I recieved endless complements. It was a work of art! I also found the perfect dress for my Mom online, from a designer I was pretty sure The Brides Closet carried, and sure enough, Fern took my mom's measurements and we also ordered her dress for me. And lastly my bridesmaids skirts were also ordered by Fern. My ladies loved their skirts, they flatter any shape and flow really elegantly. She has so many colours to choose from its a classy way to play with your colour palette, and my girls are excited to wear these skirts again with different tops! Just a very bad, odd experience. Walked in and immediately it felt dirty. No one introduced themselves and were basically just sitting around chatting. She barely let us look through the dresses and just pulled the ones she liked then hung them up and left. Most didn’t fit which was to be expected but there wasn’t even clips to hold them up and was no assistance getting into or doing up the dresses. The changing rooms were very uncomfortable as well. And to top it off she was openly bad mouthing another bridal store. Will not be purchasing a dress or returning. We drove over and hour that’s why we stayed you shouldn’t be questioning why we stayed you guys were rude and not helpful at all. Who are you to try and argue back and not apologize for the bad experience. Every single other bad review has said the same thing I’ve said you’re clearly doing something wrong and should fix it. You did bash another store stop trying to justify yourself and make up excuses your store was a disappointment and so is the attitude you have towards people who didn’t have a wonderful experience. No one had on name tags you just have excuse after excuse hahaha grow up and deal with the complaints to make your store more enjoyable for other customers because it was awful. I still don’t know your name.

It was an odd experience. I didn't feel welcome at all. Lots of dresses on short racks in a tiny room, very difficult to find what you like. I was asked to wear a mask and gloves "because I wouldn't want to wash and sterilize everything you touch". The owner didn't wear a mask at that time. I did find a dress that could have worked but felt so uncomfortable about the whole experience that decided to give another store a chance (and had an amazing experience there). I e-mailed Fern letting her know about this, no answer.

The Brides Closet was the second dress store I had visited and I really had no expectations of finding my dress that day. When I first met Fern I felt connected to her. My lady did not help me with my dresses at all, thank goodness my friend was fhere to help, i was really uncomfortable in my changeroom as every time a person came by it would fly open. Their is one room to look at dresses in, with perhaps 5 different groups with their entourage all sharing it. There were prom dress people everywhere it was so crowded and uncomfortable we had a terrible experience. Also everytime i said i did not like a dress the lady would huff and walk away, as if i need to love every dress.

After trying on so many disappointing wedding dresses and ready to give up, I stumbled upon this shop with my sister while looking for bridesmaids dresses. Spotted the most beautiful and unique gown on the mannequin and the owner was more than helpful with letting me try it on with no appointment. That was it and I was in love. (This shop seriously has the most beautiful unique dresses from conservative to ultra modern and bohemian) purchased it right then and there and went on my way home back to the okanagan. When the dress came in they were so kind as to squeeze me in for a fitting on a long weekend and with me living out of town did my alterations THAT SAME DAY! What an amazing experience. Zero pressure! Which is such a breath of fresh air in a time when planning can become so stressful. If I could rate this shop 10 stars I would. I’m so grateful for them and their kindness and would recommend them to everyone.

I first met some of the staff of the Bride's Closet at a bridal show in Victoria and they were friendly and professional. I planned to include a trip to Nanaimo in my dress shopping experience, but I ended up finding my dress at the same bridal show, from a different shop. I made the trip to Nanaimo anyway, and ended up purchasing accessories there. I knew I wanted a belt added to my dress, but I didn't know exactly what I wanted. With the help of the staff at the Bride's Closet I found the perfect belt and a veil that almost perfectly matched my dress! I had the staff customize the veil as well, and the custom work is beautiful! Even though I didn't purchase my gown at this shop, I felt they gave me the same professional and attentive service they would have give any bride. I would recommend including the Bride's Closet in your bridal shopping experience!

I ordered my dress to be custom made by an atelier in Europe, despite warnings from friends and family about scams and rip-offs. Lucky for me, the dress was actually quite beautiful when it arrived, and worth every penny. The only trouble? It was about 5 inches too long! Devastated, I took the dress to two seamstresses, who both told me the only way they could shorten my dress was by severing the scalloped bottom, turning it into a straight hem. I posted to Facebook that very night night to sell the dress. The detail at the bottom was the best part, the part I loved most, and paid most for, so perhaps there was a taller bride who'd enjoy the dress in a way that I couldn't...? I felt defeated, and began looking for quick replacements online, resigned to letting my dream dress go, and having to get another one post haste. Then Fern of The Bride's Closet commented on my sale post, asking me to bring it in so that they could have a look. Skeptical, but hoping for the best, I took the dress to the shop and put it on. Fern got down on her knees and pinned, and pulled, and lifted, and finally surfaced with a smile on her face. "We can fix this, no problem!" I returned just three weeks (THREE WEEKS!!!) later to see my dress perfectly shortened, but not sheered of its detail. They did SUCH an amazing job with a dress that other seamstresses said was a lost cause. I was floored! These women are extremely talented. I cannot recommend them highly enough for alterations. If you have a dress that you've been told cannot be salvaged, PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP! Give it to The Bride's Closet instead, and give yourself the chance to wear the dress you love most on your wedding day.

Back in 2009 I bought my grad dress from them, and it was such an easy process that when I went to plan my wedding these past two years, the Bride's Closet was my first choice. I found the dream dress with the help of the talented sales staff, and Fern did all of my alterations with skill. I was on a time crunch as I travelled to the island for my wedding, and they were able to accommodate a quick turnaround on my final alterations. In addition, we purchased 4 maxi skirts for my bridesmaids, and my girls looked incredible. Highly recommend!

My mother and I decided to check out The Bride's Closet on a whim to look for a dress for my wedding next year, and I have to say, we were BLOWN AWAY by how great the experience was. Fern was prompt in responding to our initial inquiries by email, and when we arrived she took some time to look at my pictures, get to know us, and get to know my style. The dresses she first pulled were, to a tee, what I asked for. I wasn't as happy with them as I thought I'd be so she began pulling dresses that were similar but addressed my concerns. I liked her picks better than my own! She patiently answered all of my questions as a first time wedding dress shopper and even kept her shop open a little late to make sure I was happy. All of the dresses she pulled respected my budget, and were stunning. She has a huge selection. I walked in thinking dress shopping would be a nightmare, and instead it was fun and exciting. I didn't know I could look that good in a dress, let alone 2 or 3. I would recommend Fern and her shop to anybody. It is definitely worth checking out, even on a whim :)

I'm surprised there are so many good reviews for this store. I came in with an appointment and as first the girls were helpful. After I was done looking through the dresses I went to the change room. The rooms are not private at all and not big enough to try on dresses. You are pretty much bumping in to the girl beside you because the "walls" are just curtains, and no mirror in your dressing room either. The first dress was unzipped and pulled out of the bag for me, but after that I was on my own. I even had to unzip the plastic bags and take the dresses out myself. Most other stores take the dress out and get the dress unzipped or unlaced and ready to go. The girls working didn't bother to clip any of the dresses either. There was only one "viewing area", so not only was I showing my dress to my bridesmaids, but also to complete strangers. Even after spending several minutes in the viewing area with each dress, I would go back to the change room and still have to take the next one out of the plastic bag myself. The girls working seemed more interested in gossiping about their personal lives rather than helping me. I don't think they bothered to ask me once about my wedding date, venue, theme, colours, honeymoon, etc. Even though I found a few dresses that would have been top contenders, I decided not even to try any of my favourites on a second time because of the poor service. I just wanted to get out of there.

Was incredibly upset leaving this store. My appointment was months ago and i'm just writing a review now because I see how horribly you respond to people who leave bad reviews and I wasn't sure if it was worth it or not; but I think it's important people know. The staff was incredibly rude, just lurked around, no chatting or helping aside from the one younger lady who was lovely but I sadly didn't catch her name since I only got to spend 5 minutes with her. Not only did Fern take very little interest in me, did not help me in/out of dresses or anything but when I said I didn't like a dress for X reason she would argue with me, I felt very pressured. Now to save the worst for last. My Maid of Honor and I are both very curvy(wide hips/busts) but we are both extremely fit. We were both called fat multiple times to the point where my maid of honor still doesn't feel comfortable trying of bridesmaids dresses. Not to mention the fact that we are both very fit people but even if we weren't, that is absolutely no way to treat someone ever, especially customers. If you look at all other 1 star reviews you will see they all look the same. "They were rude, left me alone, they called me fat." In the end they had the dress I was planning to buy at a different store for $500 cheaper, but i'd rather spend the extra $500 at a store that had good customer service than be $500 richer but walk away feeling less about myself than I did walking in. I hope instead of putting in the effort to fight me on my review I hope you put that effort into self reflection and realize you have an impact on many people lives and that you could ruin how people see themselves on their wedding day. A day where everyone deserves to feel beautiful.

From the old historic building that houses all the beautiful gowns, to the decorative flowers all over the walls to the staff themselves; this place is fabulous! I initially tried on dresses here over a month ago with 2 of my girlfriends. The service was ok, but their dresses are all in bags and therefore difficult to see the shape of until they are out of the bag and you're in the change room. I didn't want a mermaid style, and a few of my choices ended up being mermaid once I got them on. At one point I overheard 2 of the sales associates talking right outside the change room (cloth curtains) "What did she think of this one?" to which the woman replied in a snarky tone "oh it's too mermaid for her" I thought it was rude but brushed it off. I asked them to keep my 2 favourites on file which they did, and we left to go to the 2 other bridal shops. Recently I went back to try on the 2 they had on my file. There were 3 associates there and one said let's look up what dresses she chose. All 3 of them were looking at the computer screen and 2 of them started laughing when they read whatever it was they saw on the screen. Again, I brushed it off but felt immediately uncomfortable, and like I was being made fun of for something. I re-tried on the dresses which were huge on me. At this point 2 ladies disappeared and only 1 was available, but even she wasn't there to help with zippers etc. She didn't offer to clip the back so as I tried showing my friend I struggled with holding it up. I even asked her to try it on with a bolero jacket and although she got the jacket for me, she watched me struggle to put my arms through it and hold up the dress that was falling off of me.Every other store I'd been to they would pull the excess fabric and let you get a sense of what it'd look like in your size. She wouldn't even pull the step over for me in front of the mirror, instead left it out of the way and turned over on it's side. It was like they wanted me to leave. I found the costumer service appalling especially after having come from Ladybelle where they went above and beyond and were extremely polite and helpful. I felt like I wasn't part of the elite or something and these woman made me feel uncomfortable. Still, I never said anything. I was trying to decide between a dress at ladybelle and one here. I actually really liked the dress here and with a slight alteration of adding straps it would've been my choice, but I didn't want to be laughed at and feel this uncomfortable at future fittings. I decided instead I'd alter the one at ladybelle because I knew I'd enjoy my experience with them. Without me saying anything to my friend, as soon as we got out of the store, she commented on how rude they were and couldn't believe they actually laughed as obvious as they did right in front of us. I would never wish it upon anybody to feel so terrible about what is supposed to be such a fun memorable experience. These ladies should not be in the bridal industry until they learn some tact, manners, compassion, and costumer service!

I made the mistake of ordering a wedding dress online. With only a few days to go before the wedding, I went to see the wonderful, lifesaving ladies at the Bride's Closet. Not only did I get a beautiful gown, but it was altered in time for the wedding. Fern saved the day!! Fern is so patient, so helpful and really knows her stuff! She's not pushy, she lets your party take their time. She is also honest - if it doesn't look good on you, she will gently guide you away from it. Two years later, it is time for my daughter to find her prom dress. We knew exactly where to go - back to see Fern at the Bride's Closet. Fern delivered yet again. The gown is gorgeous and the alterations are perfect! Our family cannot rave enough about Fern and the Bride's Closet, she is our family go-to for all occasions without hesitation and we recommend her to everyone!

Bride's Closet has a great variety of dresses to choose from and staff is super friendly - they even offered to come pick me up from the Ferry since I was coming in from out of town! There was no pressure to buy, they allowed us to take photos and didn't try to push over budget dresses on me. The Bride's Closet was the last store I went to on Vancouver Island (not on purpose, it just worked out that way) and I was getting stressed that I was going to have to travel to the mainland to find what I wanted. I was surprised at the beginning to learn that all the dresses in store were within my budget. It's clear that Fern has been doing this a long time and knows what she is doing. She picks well priced but beautiful dresses and there is plenty to try on and chose from in the store. I had a specific idea of what I wanted and was having no luck. Fern brought out one last dress that she thought I would like. She was right, it was gorgeous, unique and bonus, well priced. I wanted to do an alteration to make the back lower. Fern and the seamstress warned that the alteration might impact how it fits. I didn't listen and sure enough, I didn't end up liking the change and I asked for it to go back to it's original shape. Fern was so kind and accommodating to my changes. No one blinked an eye and it really felt like whatever I wanted they would do their best. Wedding dress shopping can be fun, but it can also be stressful. Going to a store with professionals that really know what they are doing makes all the difference. One thing to keep in mind is that your wedding dress experience doesn't stop at trying on and finding the one. You then have get alternations, decide on accessories, shoes etc. I would highly recommend that any future brides go to the Bride's Closet and utilize the expertise that Fern and her staff have.

I love these two, a fabulous husband and wife duo! They have gone out of their way, on numerous occasions to help us out. From dresses to accessories these are the people you want to see! Not only did they go out of their way to pick my mom and I up from the ferry (we are from out of town) but when we arrived they directed us to amazing shops and restaurants. We had an amazing weekend all thanks to their care and outstanding customer service. Now, as if that wasn't enough, my mom and I happened to be on the island for a family visit and I thought I'd stop in to grab the veil I fell in love with when I was their months ago to get my dress. I would highly recommend the Bridal Closet for anyone searching for their perfect wedding dress! I live in a small town in Saskatchewan and found the dress that I wanted but could not find anyone that carried it for me to try on in all of Western Canada. Fern was the only one out of all the stores I called that carried that designer who looked into getting the dress in for me to try on as well as who offered an alternative dress that was extremely similar to the dress I wanted! My family and I really enjoyed the calm and comforting atmosphere that her store provided and we were so lucky that I was the only one there trying on dresses so we had the entire viewing area to ourselves! She had the dress I wanted all ready to try on and had other options that she thought I would like ready for me as well. I ended up buying my perfect wedding dress there and it was not the one that I originally went for, but one that Fern pulled for me when she heard my theme and venue! I was able to buy off the rack and stay within my budget, both which were so important to me! Fern was beyond patient as I tried the dress on 4 times; she didn't make me feel pressured or rushed! I had an appointment with my cousin to try on wedding dresses in Sept, 2013. We are both getting married in the summer. We each had a staff member to work with and both women were lovely. I really appreciated how they listened to my needs/wants and only pulled dresses that fit my criteria. I loved how clean, friendly and organized it was. This process can be stressful and somewhat disappointing, which is what I had experience at another boutique, but not at the Bride's Closet. I found the perfect dress and so did my cousin! Representatives from The Bride's Closet were at a Bridal Fair in Victoria last year - they had a collection of gorgeous, discounted dresses on-site to try on and even purchase at the Bridal Fair. It was a very chaotic scene, with Brides everywhere, grabbing every dress and trying them on...despite the chaos, I was still 100% focused on and treated as though it was just me and the consultants in their store, which I imagine was NOT easy. I ended up purchasing one of the dresses I tried on that day. The particular dress I went with, was chosen because of the potential it had to be pretty drastically altered to emulate a designer dress (that I had tried on elsewhere) that I just simply couldn't afford. I could have just purchased the dress and kept it in Victoria with me and had it locally altered but Fern (the Store owner) really understood the vision I had for the dress and was just as excited as I was to get to work on it to make it just what I wanted. I have driven to Nanaimo 3 times so far to consult with Fern, have the dress pinned, and hemmed and perfected and I haven't held a grudge having to make ANY of those trips there as the service, quality, and level of care have been ABSOLUTELY worth it every single time. I now have the Dress of my Dreams for my wedding coming up in May and Fern (and her A-MAZ-ING Seamstress) are the ones to thank!

It was an awful experience start to finish for my bridesmaids dress shopping. Nobody introduced themselves, it felt dirty inside and the woman helping us was rude and dismissive. There was no help in and out of dresses, and the dresses were in very rough shape, straps were broken and she was stepping all over the dresses. To be expected not all the dresses fit but they didn’t have clips or anything to help us. She was openly bashing another bridal store and when I showed her my wedding dress she made me feel very insecure and like it looked bad because it came from another store. My girls felt so uncomfortable and we couldn’t wait to get out of there. Will not be purchasing or returning.

My mom and I just got back from this beautiful store and our experience was so great. So many gorgeous gowns to try on, and the house it is in is so lovely. I found my dress and couldn't be happier! I'd been shopping at most of the other bridal stores on the island and hadn't seen any dresses as unique and beautiful! Definitely a must to visit if you are looking for a dress!

This is a gem wedding boutique. Fern has been extremely accommodating. She was available to help me whenever I needed, gave me lots of recommendations as to what would look good on my body type. They are all very friendly and Fern is extremely experienced with wedding dresses and alterations. There are so many options and Fern was even able to borrow a dress from the designer, Sophia Tolli, to let me try it. The dress was perfect and thanks to Fern, I have found my wedding dress. I had purchased my dress while living in a different city. When I moved back to Nanaimo I was nervous about finding a seamstress to do my alterations. My mother insisted I take it to Fern at Brides Closet, as she would for sure know what she was doing. I am so glad I did!! Fern and her staff were so accommodating, and made sure that my dress fit my like a glove! They also lent me a few different headbands to try on during my hair trial as I was having difficulties deciding in the shop. Last minute, I need a veil and Fern must have shown me at least 30 different veils until I found the perfect one!! So so so grateful for all that was done for me!

Do NOT go here. The display their dresses in horrible ways, all bunched together on the rack. I'm a very happy bubbly person, and I felt depressed being in there. I liked NOTHING they had me put on, but felt I had to lie. Every dress they put me in felt like I was wearing a napkin. They don't listen to what you want and what you wish to try. I stood there while they were telling me I wouldn't fit into the size I am. I ended up balling my eyes out when I left. Then I went to Bliss, AMAZING! I found my dream dress, in MY SIZE! They are so enthusiastic and willing to go to extreme lengths to make sure your happy. Don't go to the brides closet. Go to bliss!

This was my first time wedding dress shopping. I had my eye on a dress that Fern did not have in store, but she ordered it in so I would be able to try it on. I decided to book an appointment before the dress came in to try on styles and dresses from a designer I have been following. I ended up falling in love with a dress that she had in store already, and I was able to purchase and take it home that day. Fern was very helpful in advising me of alternations and different options for making the dress work for me on my big day. I’ve been to all the bridal stores in Nanaimo now and I’d highly recommend Brides Closet. The owners are so knowledgeable on all aspects of bridal and design! Myself and my seamstress mother were very impressed! Fern (one of the owners) picked a few gowns for me that were just stunning. She had so many tips regarding accessorizing, and even things to do with your wedding decor to compliment your dress. Her husband—I assume?—was also extremely helpful waiting just behind the scenes looking up info, prices, pictures, etc while we went on trying on gowns. The designers they carry are amazing, they have so many different looks and theyve even met some of them. If you have no idea what you’re after—like me—or are picky Fern and her husband seem like they can handle any bride ????????

@TDawns Response I was actually waiting with another party and saw this group, and did hear the girl get upset. From where we were standing the empolyee did get in her personal space which we found to be a bit unproffesional because they were keeping to theirselves up until that point. There were only 4 in her party from what we saw, the lack of space was clearly from too many bridal parties, which I have seen in this shop before so was too be expected. Perhaps I missed it but after the staff member was brought into the back room she was a lot friendlier with all of the Customers, and the group was very friendly to us and anyone else who was helping them. I did not feel they were behaving badly and I do feel the Store needs to take some responsibilty for their own actions because from where we were standing (which was quite close) the group was not behaving badly minus the one incident where in my own groups opinion wasn't entirely their fault. We had a very good time ourselves. It was pleasant, a bit crowded but to be expected and we will be going back for sure :) The Staff was very nice and friendly to us, and it set a good mood for the rest of our afternoon!

A lovely little Boutique in a warm and cozy home. The perfect little place for a bride-to-be in search for her wedding gown. Fern and her husband Leroy made us all feel welcome from the get go. Their unique assortment of name brand dresses were elegant and classy. Fern (a business owner and knowledgeable seamtress) and her staff were kind and patient while my daughter tried on some amazing gowns! We never once felt rushed or unimportant. I visited here in the early spring with my mom and gramma. At first the appointment was going great, I selected a few dresses and tried them on, however every time I put one on the consultant was nowhere to be found to help zip me up. There was another girl in at the same time and both consultants were helping her, and I was left to fend for myself. When there was a dress that was too big the consultant had to awkwardly hold it up for me, investing in some clips would go a long way!

I was also surprised that they had so much selection for a place of that size! Thank goodness for Fern & the Bride's Closet. 3 weeks away from my wedding the original wedding dress I had purchased, was too tight to be able to enjoy my wedding reception. I called every single bridal shop in town and the only one that had a selection of tea-length dresses was the Bride's closet. Fern got me in for an appointment right away. The shop is beautifully decorated and gave me that bridal feeling. We found a dress and they were able to do the alterations I needed on my short time frame. I received more compliments on my reception dress than I did the the one I wore to the ceremony. I should have started my search here! Thanks so much Fern. You are a lifesaver!

The absolute best service we have ever received! The staff is friendly and the owners are amazing, genuinely caring people. It's evident they love what they do and take great pride in maintaining their wonderful reputation. Saying they went above and beyond what was expected is an understatement. The dresses are all beautiful, there is a huge selection, alterations in store and they are reasonably priced as well. There is absolutely no reason to go anywhere else. Reupload due to dissapearing Review. They were VERY rude. We came in with a party of 4, they ignored us and left us standing at the door for the first 10 minutes and then accused us of being late. We decided to just start looking for ourselves because we had other appointments to make. They had one staff member who got far to close in my personal space and was very rude because she was eaves dropping on a conversation we were having where I asked one of the other bridesmaids if when you book an appointment you were supposed to have someone helping you and decided she wanted to very rudely chime into our conversation. They had two women helping one group and one woman helping another while we were having to grab and pin dresses ourselves. We for the most part kept to ourselves, other than this one confrontation. Apparently because we asked for a change room and some pins we were being rude and demanding. After the confrontation one woman did come and help us and she was very nice and very helpful. We put our dresses back on the hanger when we were done and left quietly like we came, letting another party know that they could have our change room. It really only takes about 2 seconds to walk up to a group and say that you're a bit busy, and apologize for the overbooking. There really is no excuse for just ignoring them. If you know you're busy on a particular day, don't book appointments for that day. This is what happens. This is the first bad review I have ever had to write and hopefully it will be my last.

As a first-time bride with no real concept of wedding dress styles, The Bride’s Closet was the third store I visited on my search last year. What I liked the most about Fern’s shop is the privacy; I wasn’t sharing the space with three to six other women, and their friends and families trying to find their dress. At Fern’s store I was provided the space to feel my way through the process where she gave me just the right amount of information to make my decisions about the dress, and the confidence that came with her experience enabled me to know I was in good hands. My dress arrived in perfect order well before necessary and was seamlessly tailored to fit my frame - the end product was a very happy bride and a no-stress experience. Amazing experience! With no real idea of what was wanted as this was our first time out, our two brides showed up unannounced to the shop with us two bridesmaids. Fern dropped what she was doing and focused her energy on us (and an impressive amount of energy, I might add!). Her selection is fabulous, her patience never waning, and even when we thought we knew what we wanted, she always had something better waiting for us (after our pick had looked not quite right!) The Bride's Closet has always been my choice for gowns. I think the character house in which the business is set up to be positively inviting. I've purchased my daughter's graduation gown in 2009, my other's daughter's wedding gown in 2011as well most recently my wedding gown this year. I find Fern to be friendly, helpful, attentive and exceptionally patient. After trying on several dresses that were chosen by friends & family, she was actively listening to all my comments & chose the perfect gown for me. The gown was ordered and came in exactly when she said it would. I came down to Nanaimo from Vernon BC to plan my wedding. While I was in Nanaimo I wanted to find a bridesmaid dress for my MOH. We went to The Brides Closet to look for a dress. Fern, knowing I we had the intention of only trying on bridesmaids dresses, went above and beyond to help. In the appointment Fern helped my MOH find the perfect dress, as well Fern helped me narrow down my bridesmaid dresses color. Fern provided me with a sample of the color swatches so that I could match the other women's dresses in Vernon BC. We had some extra time left over and so Fern asked if I wanted to try on a dress. I showed her a picture and Fern pulled the perfect dress. It was exactly what I wanted. Later in the month I had another appointment at another bridal shop to try on some dresses for my aunt, cousin, and grandmother. The other bridal shop was not able to deliver anything like I wanted, due to lack of stock from Covid. Needless to say I left the appointment at the other bridal shop disappointed. In a desperate last effort I called The Brides Closet and asked Fern if I would have a last minute appointment to try on the dress she had pulled for me earlier in the month. Fern as able to come through, yet again. She made room for a last minute appointment for me and my family. Fern also pulled another dress for me to try on. The second dress was even more perfect than the first! I tried on the second dress and felt like a bride!! I was also able to share this moment with my Nanaimo family as well. Fern, knowing I still wanted to try on the dress with my Mom present, who lives in Vernon, wrote all the information down for the dress so I could find it in the Okanagan!! Fern knew that she may not have a sale from me and she still treated me like a paying customer, with outstanding customer service, with friendly and knowledgeable advice. Fern and her husband made my dress shopping experience amazing. I highly recommend this beautiful business to anyone. They were awesome.
