Love this place and we always go there for all of our special occasions. Our server is always Chris and he is great!
The River Mill never disappoints! Excellent menu choices, always beautifully prepared, and served by attentive friendly staff. Great wine list too!
Great Mothers Day brunch.
One of the hidden treasures of Kingston restaurants. Great food. Wonderful ambiance certainly and setting. The raspberry sorbet is to die for!
This restaurant is consistently very good. The staff know the food and the wine and provide excellent service. I always leave looking forward to returning. They know how to provide a good dining experience.
The River Mill is a definite must visit if in Kingston. My husband and I were in Kingston celebrating our wedding anniversary. We treated ourselves to a couples massage from Dolce Bella that came with a lunch from the River Mill. The service was amazing and the food was exquisite. We both ordered the Waygu Burger. I don't typically eat burgers, but this was devine. We had a reservation somewhere else for dinner, but after experiencing the service and food and the River Mill, we decided to go back for dinner. We had a late reservation so there was no Waygu steak left, so I ordered the beef tenderloin. Steak is my go to all the time and I usually have a hard time finding a restaurant that can cook it as well as my husband. This cut was mouth-watering! I was very impressed. My husband ordered the duck confit. At first he didn't like the beet salad, but once combined with the duck, he said the flavors really complimented each other. Our meals were amazing and our waiter was great. There was another gentleman working there that may have been a manager or owner. He remembered us from the afternoon and stopped by our table often to check on us. For desert we ordered the lavender-honey creme brulee (we had the vanilla creme brulee after lunch). Both were very delicious. Overall, we were very impressed with the atmosphere, the service and the food and will definitely return the next time we are in Kingston! Thank you for everything!
Delicious food, friendly attentive service, great restaurant. Although pretty pricey it is well worth it! We all really enjoyed our meals.
Outstanding food and spectacular location.
I came here as part of a business meeting and despite the restaurant knowing that we would arrive at a certain hour, our main courses didn't come out for a little bit over two hours. As for the appetizer, I was given a salad that was oversaturated with lemon juice and resembled the kitschy "high class" one would associate with a destitute golf club relying on it's prestige rather than it's merit. The main course, surprising in that it was actually fresh meat in stark contrast to my expectations, was easy to dismiss. The lukewarm serving temperature called to mind a mispent youth, uninspired and with so much wasted potential. I will now gloss over the sauce quickly, much like it did my plate with it's insipid flavour of salt and Knorr packets. I would finally recommend to the waiting staff the following: well-fitted shirts (my drunken uncle in a Hawaiian shirt imprinted with pineapple motif striked me as less unkempt) and concentrating on food delivery rather than defensive posturing over your establishment's inability to promptly serve what was likely the largest daily influx of clients since 1978. 10/10 would review again. I'm still waiting for dessert.
Great ambiance with a nice view of the river. All their dishes taste amazing. I really recommend the scallops, the lamb, and the striploin.
Came here with my family after a university convocation. The atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming, and each table had a beautiful view of the River. Our waiter was super funny and nice, such great service. The food was also AMAZING!! Would definitely recommend the place to my family and friends.
Good place to come for a late lunch/early dinner, as was the case for me. I had a salad with salmon, and then the garden burger (added cheddar cheese). The waiter/bartender was fun to talk to, and the atmosphere was nice. The view is okay, you look at downtown basically though mostly at traffic.
You can never go wrong at the Rivermill. The chef is outstanding!
Thanks so much for a great office party Saturday night. My husband and I, personally, had a great time. The food was decent and the servers were attentive, and my drinks were never empty. We had karaoke as well so that was fun. Especially after a few drinks. All in all, I would probably visit here on my own to see what other dishes they have.
Wonderful dining experience with great staff. Food was delicious! Wonderful views of the River.
A class act. Lovely atmosphere, friendly service, good food.
One of the best servers I've ever had. Great food and great location. The truffle parmigiana fries were particularly good!
Always good..however if you expect fast service and be out in 30 min than go to macdonalds. This is the place for an evening out .
Great night at the River mill once again. Supper was excellent and the gentlemen ensure attention e service. Highly recommended
Five of us went to lunch today to celebration my sons 21st birthday. Our server was fantastic (I didn’t get his name but a genuinely nice chap with a wonderful sense of humour). The River Mill is in a beautiful location and although the weather was wet and miserable the setting was beautiful and peaceful. I have a lot of allergies including being Gluten intolerant and I had the best, most tastiest meal that I have ever had the pleasure of eating and the rest of my table agreed that their food was by far the best that their taste buds have experienced so far. If I could rate 100 stars I would but alas I’m only able to choose 5!! Thank you River Mill for helping (and singing) George celebrate his birthday ????
Not the greatest food
My husband and I had our wedding reception here. It was the perfect, intimate setting for our 25 guests. The food and service were both fantastic! Colin took care of all our requests and made us feel comfortable and at ease.
This is an established GEM in Kingston for people looking for a good quality meal. They handled the vast array of dietary requests from our family professionally and courteously. They have options for every type of diet. Wonderful service and hospitality from start to finish and a ton of great parking which can be a challenge at some of the downtown restaurants.
Amazing place. Great food, great drinks and great staff. Couldn't have asked for a better evening. There is lots of choice in Kingston but this place is fantastic!
Nice old restaurant.
Food always good and lunch service timely
Food is outstanding,. Panzanella salad, Osso Bocco. Excellent, great service as well. Thank you for a fantastic anniversary dinner.
Wonderful! Great service, delicious food, beautiful patio overlooking the river. Highly recommend.
Private dining room for a business presentation was great!
The food here was very good, I enjoyed the salad very much, scallop appetizer was delicious. The liver was very tasty even for non lovers of liver. The setting was nice and there were lots of windows offering natural light. I think dinner would have offered more selection as the lunch menu was quite barren.
Delicious. A bit pricey.
I have never ordered a slice from here but I often order pizza's for pick up. In my opinion this is the best pizza in Barrie. The quality of sauce and toppings used is unmatched by all other places I've been. The ratio of dough to sauce to cheese is everything I'm looking for in a slice of pizza.
Great location by the water, and exceptional food. The scallops were a standout from my personal experience.
Me and my wife were looking for a fine cuisine restaurant. We were driving through Kingston. the River Mill restaurant was the right place to go.Warmth welcome, fresh bread and an exquisite meal. I had sirloin steak with veggies and my wife had fish. We both really enjoyed the food. It is a definite recommendation. How much will you ask, 105.00$, includes meal, tea, wine and creme brule.
We went for a big 30 birthday celebration dinner. The staff were great, food was delicious and the dinning area beautifu. I can't wait to go again during the day or at sunset. The view will be breathtaking.
Fantastic great serv
Amazing food for the price. Take out delivery due to Lockdown #2 Support your local businesses
Classy atmosphere. Delicious food. We like to go just for coffee and desert sometimes too! Will spend about 50-100$ for two, but well worth it.
Good food and excellent location by the lake. Service was good and fast. I recommend it. There's also a cool clock worth checking out while you are there.
Whenever we are wanting a quiet dinner mixed with a romantic setting and great food, we choose the River Mill. Colin and his team always make us feel welcome!
Beautiful little treasure hidden in the heart of the city over looking the bay, amazing staff and a delightful menu, a bit expensive but you get what you pay for.
Service and food amazing. River Mill Restaurant is a must visit when in Kingston Ont.
Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Highly recommend this place as long as you are not in a rush.
My wife and I went here for the first time for our aniversery andit had very nice views with friendly staff. The tenderloin was delicious but paying extra to have lobster with it was not worth the money.
The River Mill Restaurant is a go-to destination for anyone visiting Kingston. Set right on the bay in Kingston, it is beautifully situated for sight-seeing the lights in the area. It has a calming atmosphere and the decor is fitting of the beautiful building that it is in. The service was above par throughout our meal. I enjoyed the Salmon which was really moist and delicious throughout and the wheat berry underneath complimented the salmon really well, giving the meal a great texture.
We really enjoyed the service, view and the food was very good. Like an old style steak house.
Great food and atmosphere!
One of the best restaurants in Kingston. The Wagyu Beef Burger is one of the most delicious I've tried. The potato leek soup was very tasty too. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. There are gluten free options too which is great for my wife. It's right next to the lake so in the summer you could enjoy the patio as well.
Gorgeous restaurant with pleasant service. We had a mid-sized banquet room that was perfect for our party. The food was pretty tasty, but not blow-your-mind.
Atmosphere is warm, service professional, food quality high. Nice venue for company gathering
The food has always been great and the staff are super accommodating.
Beautiful location. Never had a disappointing experience. Friendly, efficient staff.
It was a meet and greet birthday party sort of thing. The food, coffee and wine were fabulous. The staff was very attentive, I can't wait to go back and try one of the house specials.
Excellent meal and service!!
Great food, staff and location.
We just went in for a couple drinks but we ended up getting some food as well. The mixed drinks were exquisite and the charcuterie board was impeccable. The gnocchi was a over-salted so I probably wouldn't order it again, but everything else was so delightful it made up for it.
Amazing staff, food and environment! Couldnt be more happy with our celebration. Thank all of the staff for being so incredible. Highly recommend for any event
Great food and service
Great place, love the service, and the food is splendid if a little off the beaten trail. Definitely worth the trek out of downtown and you get a nice waterfront view from virtually the whole restaurant!
Great fine dining experience! I would highly recommend The River Mill.
Excellent restaurant, one of the best meals I have had in years
Great food, staff, and ambiance. We will definitely be returning more often.
My go to for special occasions. Superb service and quality
Excellent food, will be returning
Delicious meal here. Piano player on Saturday nights. Friendly staff.
Food is middle-class fancy in the 1980s. Music way too low, service overly formal, portion sizes inconsistent. One very small vegetarian option. Dessert took 35mins. We were the only customers.
My wife and I went here for dinner first Saturday after moving to the green zone in kingston, the staff were all in great spirits, our waiter was super friendly and funny , we really enjoyed our time there. The food was fantastic! I had the flank steak with shrimp, the flavors were delicious! My wife loved here beef tenderloin as well. Cocktail menu could use a little touch , but otherwise great food and service will definitely be back again!
Got married here last Sept. The food WILL blow you away!
Amazing ambiance, food is incredible and the service is top notch!
Went there for a work dinner, private room, fancy... and the wait staff was nice and there if you needed anything. I found the prices a bit high for what you get but the good was very good.
Went here for a work-function dinner... we were provided with a set menu and the options sounded good but in reality disappointing. Everyone at our table agreed: salads were bland, soup tasted as if from a can, mains were boring/lacked flavour/uninspired/overdone, and the deserts were just sad. I'll spare the details but if I had gone here on my own dime I would have been really disappointed. The wine list was okay, but the service was awkward and the setting is really dated. I've looked at the menu here over the years and the one thing that stood-out was that it rarely changes. The place oozes complacency. I wasn't going to bother leaving a review but when I discovered that so many people were giving it 4 stars I had to say something. I suppose this sort of restaurant can survive in Kingston, but they wouldn't be able to stay open in a city were people appreciate quality food/service, or expect it at these prices. Essentially, they are trying to be something they are not, and they are duping Kingstonians and tourists along the way.
Last night we booked the private room for our family of 5 to celebrate my son’s birthday. Greg was our waiter/comedian. We had one of the best times as a family. Food, as always, was amazing and Greg was so much fun and just lightened our moods making the evening so special. We have special dietary issues and they accommodated is so well! Thanks Rivermill and Greg too! ????
Awesome experience for our anniversary! Thank you!
On the 25th of September, my husband and I celebrated our 50th anniversary and wanted to do it in style by dinning at a restaurant with class. We chose the River Mill Restaurant and were not disappointed. The food was top class and the service was excellent and the noise was actually at a level where one could talk without having to shout. Unlike many restaurants today, there is time between courses to digest and converse before proceeding on and one does not feel rushed. We enjoyed everything about this place from the food, service, white table cloths and the view and look forward to our next meal there.
Love the food, love the atmosphere. Always an incredible experience.
Perfect. Great Service, spectacular lunch delicious.
FANTASTIC DINING EXPERIENCE. We went for our Valentines Dinner. Our waiter Chris was outstanding. He knew when to talk and when not. :-) He explained all menu items and wine very well. We enjoyed the fresh made Caesar salad at the table - prepared by Chris. My vegetarian mushroom ragu was outstanding, my partner's steak was prepared to perfection, we each enjoyed two different kinds of wine and the icing on the cake was one of the best espresso I have ever had. ( I travel to Europe a lot and can really compare.)
Great ambience
Great service and nice location
A beautiful location but the food was absolutely awesome, starters were excellent, the main was the best steak I've ever had, the dessert was so good I had to steal an extra one from the person who wasn't eating it (their loss). We took over the whole place for a wedding party and it was a very successful party, staff were excellent servers.
The food was exquisite and Greg our waiter made our evening fun!
Food was good service was not. Little children had to wait for a long time for their food and they became restless. There was too much time between the meal and desert.
Small, beautiful restauant with great waterfront views. We hosted a 70 person wedding there and were very happy wirh the results! Creme brulee and chocolate tarts are delicious!
Stopped in with my wife for a quick sample off the menu as we planned on going to two other spots in kingston to make the most out of our kingston experience. We were looking for Chef inspired dishes, not just a steak and mash. I give fair and honest reviews. Soup of the day was great. Carrot ginger, Simple and flavorful Beautifully seasoned. Lobster not so much, we had decided on this dish before we got to restaurant. Sounded great on menu just lacked flavor. Lobster was less then luke warm, lobster bisque had no flavor at all as well as risotto. It was so bland, a little more butter and seasoning would have done wonders. Root vegetable where great, perfecty cooked but the STARS of the dish bring it all down. The tall gentleman who served us was a welcome treat, funny and very attentive. 5 stars for him. Restaurants has an old atmosphere, carpet, old decor and colour scheme but great location and view. Could use an update on drink menu wine list is great. Also had seafood Nicoise which missed the mark. Octapuswas over cooked and tough, flavors on dish just don't work, trying to put to much in one plate. Try something else off the menu. Again great service and view. Better options in kingston else where. Hope they bring this spot back to glory, i will come back and try it again and hope it was just an off night. To all those giving it 5 stars, try explaining what you ordered. Makes for a more informative and realistic review.
Why bother?
Best restaurant experience my wife and I have had for years. Exceptional service and the food was great. I had the hangar steak prix fixe special and my wife had the gnocchi and the octopus calamari. It's not cheap, but it was worth every dollar and more.
Great food
Lovely patio, service and food!
Loved the vibe and the food was stellar. Our server's approach totally made our experience.
Two of the three dishes we ordered had hairs in them and they didn't really seem to care. For a restaurant that tries so hard to be fancy you wouldn't expect the cleanliness and customer service of an Arby's, but what can you do?
This restaurant has been around for a LONG time. They have a lot of carpeting on the floor, and I think that's why when you walk in...it reminds me of the way my great-grandma's house smelled. I'm serious. Once you get past that, the wait staff provide excellent service, and their menu (a bit of everything) is absolutely delicious!!! Seriously, some of the best dining in Kingston, so it's no surprise this place is still going strong. Highly recommended for celebrating special occasions, both on a date or with large groups (it's a big place, lots of tables). Their beer selection isn't spectacular, but they do have some good choices on tap.
Great food and cocktails, good service. Managing covid requirements well.
Excellent food and service. ????
Awesome food, good service. pretty expensive though. Looking at about $100 for two people with wine and entrees and a shared appetizer.
Great service, views and food. Highly recommend
Incredible food and great service. Our waiter was a jokester and you could tell everyone that works there is having a good time
I am an extremely critical patron but my experience here was absolutely wonderful on every element. Our server Chris went above and beyond to pay attention to our every need. He knew our friends' preferences by heart and from the heart! The food was hands down, the best I've savoured and as I mention, I'm quite a critic. I highly recommend this restaurant which has a great ambiance on top of all mentioned.
Always and amazing time. The staff is always really friendly and the chef always prepares everything to perfection. I cant wait to go back.
Great tasting food, excellent service, nice view of the river.
Terrific fine dining experience with a great ambience and view of the river. Recommend highly.
Always a wonderful experience, and the new patio overlooking the river is a fantastic addition.
Great food, Great service.
Great atmosphere in a historic building. Menu is interesting and food was perfectly prepared. Service was friendly and professional.
Amazing food and service
A little too haughty and slow service, but definitely one of the nicest venues in Kingston.
Meal was of mid quality at best, below standard for second entre. Presentation of the food was seriously substandard. Beef stew (not good enough to be using the description or name on the menu) Chicken was rather tough and relatively tasteless. Extremely overpriced.
Wine and atmosphere was good, but considering the prices the food was sub-par.
The Kingston Single Malt Society is here tonight for our monthly dinners. Stellar food and service as always.
Totally stumbled on this place. Food was good, server was great
Excellent service, very clean, Sat. has piano, and very good selection of wine. They always make sure that your glass is filled with water. Nice location away from downtown Kingston. Easy parking, a big luxury when it comes to Kingston parking, which generally, is bad when it's busy. The only reason for four stars instead of five is that I have been waiting for a dish that would really be remembered. It's very difficult for me to give any restaurant a five star rating, but this comes close. All my dishes were great, but just looking for something really different and so far no cigar, as yet. Sometimes, my portions are a bit small, especially when it comes to fish and I'm not a big eater. I will go back often and hopefully I'll be wowed.
Fantastic! Great food. Great views.
Superb menu and quality of food. Excellent service, with attention to detail. Lovely surroundings. A real gem of a restaurant!
Perfect
Over priced for the quality
This is an established GEM in Kingston for people looking for a good quality meal. They handled the vast array of dietary requests from our family professionally and courteously. They have options for every type of diet. Wonderful service and hospitality from start to finish and a ton of great parking which can be a challenge at some of the downtown restaurants. Wonderful interesting lunch menu, the location is nice as parking is free and available. View of the river offers occasional scull and canoe activities , nice high ceilings good for conversation. The best place in Kingston.
Wonderful soups and delicious appetizers and main courses. Attentive and pleasant table service. This restaurant also has a picturesque location on the water.
Where do I start.... I went here for my boyfriend's work dinner party and the service was exceptional. The staff were professional, the food was amazing, and the overall dining experience was perfection. I definitely will be coming back here again! :)
I have been here 3 times over the last year or so. Service has always been great. The menu and decor both feel a bit uninspired and out of date. The Caesar salad is excellent though. The location is very nice and the old building the restaurant resides in is a nice piece of Kingstonian history. For the price point, I would love to see some new and creative menu items in order to give a 5 star rating.
Great food, great service and wonderful atmosphere.
What a treasure in a beautiful location. Had the broiled Dorado. It was perfect! Can't wait to try everything else on the new menu! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Chris helped me to choose the right wine for my entree. A most pleasurable evening!
Delightful atmosphere, exquisite food and exemplary service. Worth every penny.
For dinner I had the Braised Ox tail ($14) and the pork chop($26). Service was professional and atmosphere was great( nice and clean). However, it was difficult for me to remain optimistic as the quality and portion did not speak for the pricing at all. The braised ox tail came with escargot, black garlic, Farro and mushroom. The farro overpowered everything else on the dish. The pork chop was nothing special as I am certain it is possible to find a way cheaper, above average chop elsewhere. The appetizer menu alone consisted of prices equivalent to other restaurants pricing for main courses(both mediocre and above average restaurant menus). To provide any humility, I guess it is reasonable for a first time experience, given that it is truly a special occasion.
Delightful atmosphere, delicious food. The price was also exceedingly reasonable for the quality of food we received. The duck I had was cooked exceptionally well with crispy skin and delicate meat. My husband's steak was a generous portion and was seasoned and cooked to perfection. For dessert, while I am normally not a fan, their creme brulee was actually quite good. The view out the large windows onto the river added to the general feel of our very nice meal, and our server was attentive and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Food wasn't good, we tried the salmon and the lobster, both were tasteless and both got accompanied with the same veggies (lazy), I imagine the standard in Kingston is quite low, don't go there with high expectations and if you do go with the steak, you can't screw steak up. I did love the location by the water, and the building is quite beautiful, but this is not a 5 stars experience, even though the prices are.
Service was great for a party of about 30. Meat was overcooked but we'll seasoned and dessert was delicious. Would go again for sure.

The River Mill Restaurant was the December choice of a group of retirees who get together once a month or so for lunch. I recall the River Mill was Clark Day's very first Kingston restaurant before he moved on to Clarks on the Bay, Clarks on King and other restaurants. The River Mill Restaurant is located on the east side of the restored Woolen Mill which is now the location of numerous professional firms and other businesses such as the Whig-Standard, Focus Fitness, a climbing wall and a spa. The River Mill has a beautiful view overlooking a tributary of the St. Lawrence River and the views beyond. The River Mill also has a separate room for private parties and groups and its own closet to hang up our coats. After being served drinks and chatting, our group sat at four tables joined in a square so that there were four people on each side but none in the middle. We had only one server for our group of sixteen so it took a while to order our lunches and a much longer time to have them served. I certainly enjoyed chatting and catching up with the person on either side of me. However, there is more opportunity for group conversations if there are people across from you as well people on either side. My favorite venues for our get-togethers are places with round tables where you can both talk with the people on either side as well as those across the table. When I received my vegetarian sandwich and cauliflower soup, I enjoyed my sandwich but the soup was cooled off. The next time I go to the River Mill, I will not be sitting in the private room but out front with just my spouse or another couple. I will also enjoy their very fine wine menu.
Came here for a Robby Burns dinner. They offered a 5 course meal and 6 pricey scotches in sniffers. I had a great time and would definitely come again.
