The lack of leg room between the rows is ridiculous! People aren't all 4 feet tall! Good thing the music was good!

(Translated) A very nice building with history. Last night I was in the Black Box, the small upstairs venue that bears the beautiful name "Baby Grand", in the notion of "Rabbit Hole" and highly recommend the visit - it's great what the actors, who are not professionals in the strict sense. The piece itself is not a comedy, but rather a drama that makes one think. That's why I liked it a lot. (On American stages off Broadway, you often get very light fare that I do not like) (Original) Ein sehr schönes Gebäude mit Geschichte.

Kingston's best small venue. The Grand has great acoustics and comfortable seating. You can pay for your parking inside, which is a real bonus. The ticket takers are... Eclectic and your chances of getting a drink are enhanced if you try early and stay long.

I miss going here

Wonderful venue - I've attended this venue numerous times, as both performer and audience. Good seating, workable stage, and convenient bar. The only downside I find is the lack of a parking lot, which has a direct impact on how many potential audience members go to shows.

I had a amazing time watching Rumble In The Concert. If able you should go and see them, it is time well spent.

I go to see John McDermott every time he's in town. The Grand is an ideal place--big enough for a happy audience, small enough to let the entertainer be intimate with them. I'll be back!

Perfect in every way. Even the street excavation and somewhat limited parking cannot wiggle this venue from a solid 5. Great staff from front to back, plenty of space to move around pre-show and close enough to great hotels to walk.

Laura Clarke

Saw Matt Anderson and the Mellowtones. Great show, good sound, room temperature was too hot, heard numerous comments from those I was with, and others nearby. The stage a d lighting were excellent. Thanks

Rob Watson

The Grand continues to be a great mid-sized venue to see live performances. I had leg room where I sat, which makes for a much more comfortable evening for those 6' and taller. The only gripe is the bottleneck when exiting , however don't worry as if their was an emergency, they have multiple sets of emergency exits.

Great medium sized venue. I’ve been to a few comedy shows here as well as other types of performances. The staff is always friendly, and are always very helpful. This venue is big enough to attract some large names, but small enough to have a personal feel.

Loved the performance I went to see however the venue itself was a tiny bit uncomfortable. The seats were very very close together allowing no real leg space, and additionally the bathrooms we're really small and cramped. Aside from this I really did like the atmosphere of the place, especially the show we saw here.

Amy Bigelow

Love the room, staff are great, great performances...... just no knee room at all in the seating area which makes it impossible to be comfortable if you're tall so pick an end seat

The seat rows in the balcony are far too close together. I'm 6'2" tall and was uncomfortable the entire time. You should at least note in the ticket purchase section that certain areas don't work for people over about 5'10". Thankfully, my coat helped pad my shins though at the cost of blood flow... Otherwise, it was really nice. Close to inexpensive parking, nice staff, nice looking venue.

Great venue for the many excellent shows and live performances they bring to Kingston. A real gem in the heart of the city.

Excellent site lines even from the balcony. But the seating is horrible! Unbelievable tight. No leg room and your knees are jammed in the seat in front! Pick an aisle seat when buying tickets. If your over 6' tall...good luck!

Greg Burke

The Baby Grand is great; but you can find better theatre in Kingston than the main stage Grand. Mostly showcases out of town artists (which is fine) but it would be nice to see more local talent being given the opportunity to make an appearance on our only professional stage.

Great shows and wonderful staff and volunteers. The lower seats are comfortable but the balcony seats severely lack leg space. You are warned about this when purchasing tickets but I want to emphasize this point. It actually caused me knee pain and swelling for a month after. The bathroom facilities are also quite limited so be prepared for line ups for both men and women.

Mark Salter

Great venue, not a bad seat in the house for viewing but they are tiny. Alcohol prices are reasonable 8$ for a large draft of glass of wine.

Love the Grand, went there the other night for a show, and was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the seating was, as well as how close you can get to the stage. Nice selection at the bar and very nice staff very knowledgeable and accommodating, you can also bring your drinks into the theatre which is a very bigness plus.

The Grand is a great place to go for all sorts of shows. It looks amazing after all the renovations they’ve done to it and they get a huge variety of entertaining shows. A few examples of shows I’ve been to see there are the Barenaked Ladies, Rick Mercer, and Chris Hadfield. The staff are respectful, and the washrooms are clean. All around I’ve never had a bad time at the Grand.

Chris Vautour

Great Venue, better then expected. We saw the Gowan show, great sound. The big surprise was reading the reviews about how tight the seating was in the balcony area we had tickets for. The seats were more than wide enough for a guy my size (bigger than most). The leg room was adequate. My knees were not up against the seats in front. Compared to the Sony Centre in Toronto this was far superior. The acoustics were fabulous. The small size venue made you feel very up close. Parking right out back at $3. Perfect. The staff were great and the concessions were very reasonably priced. All in all 5 stars!

The Grand is very nice, if has great acoustics and it's a good looking venue, the only problem is that there is no leg room. If you are over 5'10" your knees will be grinding in to the seats in front of you.

Great space BUT you can't enjoy a concert under the balcony as everything echoes so when you talk to a friend the sound travels and when a drunk guest decides to threaten you (to where I as staff would have escorted them out as it's not becoming) they were allowed to stay leaving us feeling unsupported. We now only go back and sit upstairs or to kids shows.

MrBoknowbo

Great theatre! The sound and stage are great! Warning: if you're above 5'0" avoid the balcony seats as your knees will end up mangled on the back of the seat infront of you, or on your neighbour's lap.

The play I attended was great. The theatre was - ok. We were in the baby grand. The seats were very close together and uncomfortable. The doors were left open so although the play had moments of darkness, the lighting messed it up. There was no papertowel in the men's. The wine was $8 for a 5oz (thimble) glass of a vintage that costs $8 per bottle. The air was hot and dry. BUT we enjoyed the play anyway so there ya go.

Great location, lots of restaurants near by. Quick service at bar and quick entry. $34 for 2 beers, and 2 glasses of wine. We sat up at the balcony. Rows are very close together, no leg room. I'm 5'4 and was very uncomfortable. (I feel bad for everyone taller!) Luckily there was no one in front of me, so I could put my legs over the seats. It was ridiculously hot sitting up high. Wore a t-shirt and was sweating. I was slightly excited when the show was over to get some fresh air.

The Grand theatre is an amazing piece of history. Theyve kept it in great shape without making it feel like it's a new modern theatre. As a tall person, a huge plus for me is that in the orchestra seating there is plenty of room to sit comfortably. I have only been here once and my only complaint is that I wasn't happy with how they dealt with a loud group during the show. They let a group in late, then there was an issue with seating the group so they pulled out flashlights and talked at a normal volume instead of whispering. Then when the group got louder and was swearing, the theatre staff did nothing to address it. The performer on stage paused their act, turned on the lights, walked up to the individual and asked him to shut up. At the beginning the security guy asked a middle aged drunk woman to put her phone away, which I loved...the only issue is the next 20 times she opened her phone to look at plenty of fish, nothing was done. I had a bad experience with the phone distraction in front and the loud distraction behind. But I still will give 4 stars because the theatre itself is great and I haven't been there enough to say if this happens often. I have a feeling it was just an unfortunate occurance because of a very disrespectful crowd. I just wish it was handled better.

Well organized location and staff. Clean facilities, and friendly faces. Would return to this location for a show again! My only warning is that the balcony is pretty tight for leg room! I'm 5'6", and I had enough leg room, but it wasn't roomy by any means! If you are much taller, you'll likely be uncomfortable in those seats, so plan accordingly.

J

I thought I had reviewed this theatre some time ago but apparently not. My wife & I have been attending events at "The Grand" for man decades now and like the newer version as it is more comfortable with better sight lines. We attended a performance last night with some friends and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There are complaints about the lack of leg room but for us it isn't bad. My only complaint is washroom facilities could be a bit larger. Parking and accessibility is a-one and you don't have to walk far from the parking garage to be indoors. The theatre is good shape and the staff are pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable and take pride in the Grand. We have been to numerous concerts and platys over the years and are going to another concert in November. We are really looking forward to attending there again.

By far, the most uncomfortable theater I've ever been in. Horrid. The seating is so cramped that you're unable to enjoy the performance. A shamefully epic mis-design. There are so many events I've taken a pass on because of this. It doesn't matter a bit about anything else they may have done in the refurb. I've only been there 3x rather than 30.

The 1 star is for the management of the theatre not the staff, staff would be rated 5 stars, very polite and professional. We went there for our daughter's dance recital, audience full of family and young children. Explain to me how it makes sense to charge 20$ for a 3 months old baby that is "sitting" on your lap. Airplane companies do not even make you pay for your babies.. what a joke.

Unique theater space that has been interestingly restored with original wooden beams and exposed brick features. Good acoustics, sightlines , sound and lights.

Great theatre, comfortable and spacious seating, not a bad seat in the house!

Went to the nutcracker around Christmas and ended up leaving not even halfway through due to the venue having very poor/tightly spaced seating. Everything someone moves you can feel it. Just a very small cramped theatre that for sure has no right to be charging 50 dollars a ticket. Will not be going back for any future performances at this venue.

In the last few weeks, we've been at the Grand Theatre a couple of times. We enjoyed the Bare Naked Ladies performance immensely and were able to introduce the grandkids to Peter and the Wolf a few days later. Over the past forty years, I wouldn't be able to add up the numerous times we have been to the Grand to enjoy ourselves. We're very fortunate to be able to enjoy the Grand Theatre. It is City run enterprise and has professional and knowledgeable individuals who select the performances and run the Theatre. Ticketing, including seat selection, works very well in the internet age. Renovations have also worked out very well. The Grand is also centrally located in downtown Kingston where, before or after a performance, the patron can enjoy a wide choice of great restaurants and bars. My only caveat would be to avoid using the adjoining parking garage. You feel trapped after a performance, especially when someone's exit ticket doesn't work.

When it's Blackie and the Rodeo Kings with Dan Ackroyd how can you go wrong. Awsome venue and sound! Great time! Everyone super friendly and helpful.

One of my favourite places to see a show, but keep in mind that the leg room is practically non-existent. So if you are bringing a tall friend, get an aisle seat!

Great venue. Would recommend orchestra level seating only; balcony has very limited keg room for anyone with long legs!
