We ordered a cake for my sister's baby shower and they gave us a round instead of a slab, basically half the size of what was ordered. The host acknowledged that they had screwed up and said that the wrong size was made but wouldn't offer any kind of adjustment. As well, the previous time we ordered from here, they made the cakes in the wrong flavors. If it wasn't for the fact that the other cake shops weren't available for the date we were having the baby shower on, we would never have gone with Gelyns. If you have a special occasion and don't want any disappointments, DON'T ORDER FROM GELYNS.

Best Ube cake in Canada (yes even better than any in Winnipeg or the Vancouver area). Moist, spongy, not over or under cooked, genuinely low sweetness so the flavor of the star ingredients shine (very easy to eat). The buttercream icing is smooth (no crunchy sugar crystals), lightly sweetened as it is more flavored as the cake type than generic sugar, and encases the cake to keep it moist complimenting the cake sponge flavor. Been buying cakes from here for a very long time and many birthdays (they do wedding cakes that will steal guests from other venues to look at yours!). Mocha, pandan, strawberry, marble, red velvet... etc. all good. If you love chiffon cakes (yes the one made with the least amount of sugar) go here! By order only (fresh is best and they are busy as it is).

This review is based on their cakes. I nor my friends did not attend a wedding or in need of a wedding cake. We actually attended a baby shower a few weeks ago and they served Ube Macapuno cake. We took a piece of it and fell inlove! well our mouths did haha. We drove there and spoke to the owner we believe owns that place and we asked if we can order a cake for no special occasion? she said yes. We ordered the same one we had at that baby shower but in a slab and I kid you not! The 4 of us men in our 40's haha ate that cake for breakfast the following days after. It is very moist, soft, the icing I can't explain it, it makes our tongues tingle in a crazy good way. And I felt like a kid back home eating macapuno in the province. It is so good! Now all my white friends stopped buying cakes at costco or sobeys and just order from here haha. It helps if you can speak tagalog when you order on the phone, because I have seen them mess up a couple of my friends orders from straight english. All in all if you can make it down face to face, then order a cake of your choice.

Ordered some cakes for birthdays. Ube Macapuno flavor is my favorite. If you want semi sweet, go for the mocha. Goes great with coffee for those easy Sundays. The cakes have older presentation, but it goes hand in hand with the recipe that hasn't changed and is always what you expect from a Gelyn's cake. Fluffy and never dry. Price is fantastic compared to other bakeries. Hidden gem for sure.
