Was there for an event held by my company. Nice large room for the number of people. But I have to say the food was not spectacular. I had the ham and asparagus sandwich. It was tasty and an interesting combination but not outstanding. Not sure I would order it again. Servers were great.

To celebrate our 50th Anniversary a small group of school-days friends we'd been close to for over 50 yrs, some of whom were attendants at our wedding, were our dinner guests at The Gates. We booked space through Ray, and preplanned a menu and extras with Marley. The venue was perfect. The food was excellent. The service was unobtrusive and attentive. We, and "all" of our guests, were extremely impressed. Five stars isn't a high enough rating for our experience overall!

We took our boys on Feb 10, 2019 for Sunday brunch as it was their birthday. We had been many times in the past but have just recently moved back to Winnipeg. The cost has gone way up to $45 per person and there was less selection. Also the hot food was not very hot. Luke warm to almost cold. There was nothing underneath the heating trays to keep it warm. Also my husband wanted fried eggs but the omelette station would not make them. They had to order from the kitchen. When he finally got them (after asking 2 times) they were cold and undercooked. It definitely isn't what it use to be. Not worth the money at all. We will not be returning.

We recently celebrated the wedding of our children (Tianna and David) at the Gates on Roblin and cannot thank the Gates and its employees enough for what was a most perfect day. We are especially indebted to the couple's wedding event manager, Nadine, who turned this special family moment into a lifetime memory of enjoyment and happiness. We had known by its reputation that the Gates on Roblin was a great place for a wedding given its high end standards for an elegant, yet natural setting, tasty meals and hospitable staff. What the Gates provided to us was all of that and much more. The guidance at rehearsal of the vows, spectacular decorating of the grand ballroom, pampering us at the charming gazebo, treating our guests with utmost warmth, appetizers and meal choices so delicious beyond surprise, and all within such very comfortable surroundings. In addition to Nadine's kindness and support regardless of hour of day, we experienced staff so gracious that we felt like royalty. It's clear that the Gates has something really special going on because being in the company of such great employees who placed our guests needs so high in importance does not happen by chance. Went for Father's Day brunch, $45 per adult and $25 for kids - well worth it. Coffee and orange juice was included, with unlimited refills. The staff were genuinely kind and the waiters were very nice and attentive. Also - there was an entire room just for desserts! AND A CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN. All the food was so delicious I can't wait to find an excuse to go again soon.

This place isn't good enough. The food is great but they serve small portions... I need to go home and eat a pizza cuz it's just not enough. Update: I went and got McDonald's and wasn't allowed to celebrate the wedding because of outside food... that wouldn't be a problem if they gave a decent sized meal! I'm 190 pounds. Not small but not big either. I ate sushi at 6pm, wedding at 6:30, meal at 10 that they served and right after I went to McDonald's... (Because a soup and salad will really fill you up...) good response Ray! I'm lactose intolerant and you serve cheese soup and sprinkle cheese on your dainty salad and after I go and get a burger you offer a cream dessert? No kidding I'm pushing it away! Service was great, kind ppl. The place looks nice but again, not enough food

Haven’t been here in approximately ten years. Didn’t realize how much I miss this place. The Atmosphere here is amazing. Took my beautiful wife here for her bday. The staff are amazing and knowledgeable and professional. All the questions we had were answered. We never felt rushed nor pushed out the door. The food was amazing and good portions. The desert was amazing. The old house is full of history and beautiful decor. Would totally recommend a friend and family to dine here.

We had a lunch there today and it was a really nice experience. Our waitress was good and everything came out quickly. I don't think they had a lot of options on the lunch menu and I did not love my drink- named the hibiscus but that is my fault because I forgot it had grape fruit juice. I don't like grape fruit juice. I thought it had hibiscus tea or something.Also the clientele was a bit older. Mind you, it's a weekday afternoon,maybe retirees? The younger audience are probably at work. I am a big foodie and the starter bread rolls was not warm like you would find at red lobster. I also thought my veggie pasta was not as creamy and thick as I would have liked. But my husbands hot beef was good. We spent 95$+15% tip for 2 starters, a drink, 2 main and a creme brulee( which was quite good). All in all, I liked the sun room. It gave a summer feel. I liked that it was quiet and I had a nice time. Would I go again??? Maybe for dinner. We did have a good time generally.

My husband and I got married at The Gates last month and we could not have asked for a more perfect experience! Nadine is the most incredible, professional and accommodating person to work with. As we got married at a time when wedding guest numbers and such were up in the air, she kept us up to date on all new health guidelines and provided alternatives if needed all the time. There was no question she couldn't answer - dealing with The Gates is absolutely stress free for planning any event and the grounds are breathtaking. There are not enough words to praise and thank Nadine and all the staff of The Gates for making our wedding the most beautiful day to remember. Amazing food, beautiful scenery and the most attention staff one could ever hope for. Thank you for all you did - we look forward to coming back!

55th wedding anniversary, what better place to be. The Gates On Roblin is outside of Winnipeg, a very short distance from the Perimeter highway surrounding Winnipeg. Country setting. Picture below was taken as we left about 9:30 in the evening. It's an old prestigious home that has been converted. Been there many times and even had out 50th Wedding Anniversary party in their upstairs room. Food is a bit pricy, but it's great.....you pay for what you get. Service terrific and atmosphere wonderful. Lighting a little bit low if your eyes are "old" but who's perfect. Got to know the GM a very nice person who strives to meet everything you expect in a special night out. If you have never been there, make the reservation and try it out. I remember one February a few years ago, we had a reservation for a birthday supper. Remember it's cold in Manitoba in February. That day it touched the -40 degree level but we went out. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves Guess others had cancelled. The plus was the staff kept us company and we had our own little party. A terrific and wonderful memory of that February evening.

I can not say enough about The Gates and its staff. Had my wedding mid May and they took care of everything. If we had forgotten something in the room they provided.......they went for us to get it. They made sure our quests were well taken care of while we did our pictures. Even while me and my wife were out on the property having pictures, Ray was tracking us down to bring us drinks and appetizers!!!! So huge thanks again!!!

Very nice venue. We were a party of 12 . Service was mediocre. Wild rice mushroom soup was flavorless. The asparagus should be void of the inedible tough parts.The New York strip. Was cooked as ordered but the sauce had no discernable flavour. A chef should be embarrassed to serve second rate food.

They are always there to support and accommodate last minute changes or set up needs. Notably, they managed a ceremony move over in the middle of some pretty unstable weather conditions and their flexibility allowed our clients to have their outside dream wedding they envisioned for more than a year! My husband and I were married at The Gates last year; I would give that experience at 10 out of 10! Nadine was AMAZING, a true professional who was so pleasant and amazing to work with. I have attended weddings at The Gates prior to my own, and always had a good experience. I had never dined at the restaurant until recently... My husband booked a reservation at The Gates for our one year wedding anniversary, thinking it would be so special to return exactly a year to the day from our nuptials! He booked the reservation about a month in advance, told them it was our anniversary and that we were married at The Gates. We arrived to dinner that night and were seated in the front atrium that had a very noisy group of people, with young children, who were loud and running around. Don't get me wrong - those factors would be fine on any other night, but it just was NOT the romantic setting we were hoping for at all for our anniversary. It took 25 minutes for a waitress to approach us for the first time and it was to take a drink order. The waitress we had was very cold and unwelcoming; she did not seem to be having a good night. We were finally able to order food after about 40 minutes, despite menus closed and ready to order essentially right away. The food and wine was great - zero complaints about that. Honestly, it felt like our waitress could not have cared less about us, hardly paid attention or checked in on us. There was no mention by anyone that it was our anniversary, which was somewhat disappointing given we got married there (and spent a lot of money) the year before. The room was so distracting with the loud party that was there. I would have thought we'd be seated in a quieter area... I would still recommend The Gates for any kind of event, but I have to say - the experience we had that night at the restaurant left a very sour taste in our mouths and took away from how highly we saw The Gates prior to that night. I'm sure my review would look differently if it was just a regular night out for dinner - I was really expecting more for our anniversary, especially since we got married there!

$116. plus a minimal tip! Very disappointed, although the food was adequate, the variety wasn't. Hardly any fruit choices, strawberries and melon. The same with the cheese...white or orange coloured, no variety either. Eggs Benedict were either rawish(I know that's not a word) or hard ( which was fine). No variety in the salads. But the croissants and cornbread and bacon and salmon were DELICIOUS! Then there was the service....very friendly, but not very attentive. They would pour coffee for one person, but wouldn't ask the others at the table, whom were also drinking coffee, if they wanted any. Never ever asked "how is everything?". Hardly cleared dishes without being called over. Way too expensive for what was offered. April 9th, 2018...follow up: Spoke to Ray today, after a few weeks of telephone tag. Extremely pleased with his insight and genuine concern for all involved...staff and customers. We definitely will be back to enjoy the Gates soon. Thank you.

There's no real knock on the quality here, but there's no rave, either. Competent for sure, but under-whelming in general. Caesar salad that seemed to have a double dose of anchovy. Odd. Yorkshire popovers that were almost certainly made too long ahead of service. Prime rib that cried out for jus, or a spark of some kind for flavor. It's a terrific property, very nice ambiance. I don't know what will move us to return.

For one of the best restaurants in west Winnipeg l think they are working on their reputation. I ordered a Keith's beer and waitress said ok. She came back 10 min later (slow) and said they were out so I ordered a ceaser which came 10 min later (slow) and it wasn't very good. My friend ordered a Crown and ginger ale and got a Crown and coke instead. We got there at 7pm and never got our meals until 9pm which were just warm not hot. When we got our bill (which was high) had 2 extra drinks on it. Waitress said she would correct it and came back stating the extra drinks were from a table down stairs. And as a group the tip is included in the bill at 18% not 15% as I think it should be. This is the second time I was not happy there and I won't be going back.

This was my first time going, and our whole family went for my grandmothers 85th. More so than not, we had to ask for our coffee to be refilled, and one of the waitresses had a very poor attitude. After a negative interaction between a member of my family and one of the servers, the server had a very poor attitude towards my entire family. She would occassionally come, grab a debit machine every so often, then slam it back on the base. The same with carafes as well. It was so bad that eventually, what I can only assume was the head server, started checking in on our party. Still, we had to practically beg for more refills to the point where my family was serving beverages themselves. Overall, the brunch itself was excellent. The food was hot, fresh, and the overall atmosphere of the venue was nice. There were many different choices to select from. The "professionalism" however, (of one server), made the experience a little interesting, but we didn't let it spoil our families birthday brunch.

The warm toffee pudding was good. I do say the mushrooms were delicious. We were there for valentine’s day and they placed us near a family with kids making a ruckus almost the entire meal. Somewhat a mood killer.

Just had our wedding here and couldn't be more happy. To us it was better then any other place in Winnipeg. They cater to groups up to 60 people in the front room of the building and hundreds in the back building. Food is 5star as discribed by all our family and friends that attended the wedding.

The Ruben is good but I will drive through a snow storm (as I did today) for the panko crusted Pickerel, which is a bargain at $19 on the lunch menu. Sunday brunch is absolutely amazing and very nearly worth the $45 price tag. Cozy ambiance when it's busy, quiet and relaxing when it's not.

Our wedding was scheduled for May 17 2020 and after weeks and weeks of terrible news due to the pandemic, Ray lent us a generous and helping hand and offered us to use the beautiful backyard and patio at the Gates for our small and initiate wedding ceremony and reception. If it wasn't for him, our dream wedding wouldn't have come true. Ray was a pleasure to deal with, always friendly and kind, and he continued to go above and beyond to exceed our needs. Since he has hosted many weddings before, he was really helpful in suggesting cute little ideas that would make our wedding even more special than what we would have planned ourselves (for example, suggesting that we light off a few Chinese lanterns for memorable photos). Him and his staff offered the highest degree of customer service that I have ever experienced. Our guests won't stop ranting about how amazing the food was, and how beautiful the space was. We are forever grateful!! We can't wait to come back for our all future wedding anniversaries and special occasions. Thanks for everything Ray!!

I placed a reservation for 3 for brunch on Aug 12. I mentioned to the person on the phone that I had a gift certificate. He said no problem just present it to the waitress after the meal. It was our first time there ..we arrived about 35 mins before our 12:30 reservation but were greeted nicely and seated quickly. The serving staff were excellent and the food was superb. At the end of the meal we presented the gift certificate to the waitress and after a brief wait another lady appeared at our table explaining that they would not accept the certificate for reasons that I do not understand. This gift certificate was won from a company Christmas party. I think it is a short sighted business practice not to honor it. I would recommend that if anyone has any kind of gift certificate for this place...present it the moment you walk in .

My wife and I got married October 3rd 2020 at The Gates on Roblin. Not only was planning a wedding in the middle of a pandemic complicated enough, we had only 8 days for the final decisions after social restrictions became limited to groups of 10. We couldn't have picked a better venue on a normal year, but the over-the-top efforts put in by Ray, Nadine, and the staff of The Gates on Roblin was phenomenal. We held an intimate reception of 10 in the full ballroom, beautiful lighting, decor, tableware and overall ambience. Our ceremony was outside in their well-manicured grounds, where we are able to have a musician play live for us. Only a few minutes outside the city, you would think you've gone hours into nature. Ray was involved in every aspect of our event. He was there Friday night to test sound and lights in the room, stocking the bar with all our favorite picks and providing us with all the technical support we needed. On Saturday he was seen doing every job from bartending and serving, to doing roadie work for our pianist. His commitment to his craft as a host and owner, as well as his determination to make this day perfect for us despite the circumstances was encouraging and raised our spirits. Nadine was our wedding coordinator and held our hands through all the lengthy processes of getting a wedding organized. She always responded to our emails and questions and was very thorough with her information. No question was ever too insignificant or irrational, her answers were always thoughtful. She was delightful to work with and helped make our visions come to fruition. Her experience was invaluable when we designed the ball room and built the structure of our day. She was also very helpful in pointing us the in the right direction for vendors and unique additions to our wedding. The services offered by The Gates on Roblin were well above our expectations, and we couldn't have been happier with the reception, staff, food and estate grounds

Our wedding was this past weekend at The Gates & we can't say enough great things about this venue! Leading up to the event, they were so flexible and accommodating during the COVID craziness. In the end, they made it possible for us to have as close to a normal wedding as possible, along with still following all of the health & safety guidelines to keep everyone safe! We had our dream wedding during COVID and couldn't be happier! The food was amazing and all of our guests kept telling us how full they were from the meal and are all still raving about the delicious late night poutine! Overall the service was great and we couldn't have asked for a better day! Nadine made the day stress free for me as our coordinator & Ray was so pleasant to deal with! We are so happy with our decision to go with The Gates as our wedding venue!

This place is such a romantic place for a date night. The people are so nice and the food is delicious. Lots of different things on the menu. Go for the Sunday brunch...better make a reservation ahead of time so you won't be disappointed. You get a harp player too on Sunday's. So fancy!

Went here for the first time to take out my wife for an anniversary dinner. Heard great things, we both ordered their dinner special. For the most part, we were the only individuals in the dining room and it took over 50 minutes to have our food out.... They did their best to apologize and did "comp" our meal which we did appreciate (we didn't ask for it..) but I expected a better experience for such a "higher end" establishment. Will probably not return based on this experience.

I have never had a bad meal here, and I've been to dozens of catered weddings and events. This was their special veggie omlette, and it was fantastic. The cheese blend that it was filled with was to die for. I ordered the kale salad instead of the usually paired hash browns. It was crisp and tasty, the vinegarette was not overpowering, and everything was fresh. My water glass was refilled often and my server was great.

We made Mother's Day brunch reservations only to be called 1 week before and be told the person who took our reservation didn't know what he was doing and they could not accommodate us! We now can no longer get a reservation anywhere else being this close to Mother's Day. They person on the phone made excuse after excuse that it was not their problem and even told me that people book a year in advance. How is that relevant to me I made a reservation weeks before! In the end they blamed the person who took the reservation! If he is incompetent then why is he answering the phone? Also why am I getting a call 1 week before! They did try to offer me a sitting 3 hours later than what I booked in the mid afternoon basically when the brunch would be over. We already had plans made after our booked brunch so that was not an option. So disappointed we will never go here again and beware if you call to make a reservation it may not be a competent person you talk to!

Gates is a very nice and large upscale resteraunt. It provides many rooms for dining . They provide wedding venue. Along with lunch and dinner there is also brunch. Free parking in large lot. Not a accessible by transit. Lunch today was nice but my meal was not too hot.

The Gates on Roblin was amazing coordinating everything for our wedding day. The endless options for appetizers and plated meals were so great and allowing us to put our personal touches by bringing in specialty drinks for our rehearsal dinner and wedding made it that much more enjoyable. Nadine coordinated with the vendors so that everything was taken care of and the room looked spectacular in the end. Any small changes that we needed/wanted last minute due to Covid were taken care of with no questions asked. Due to the size of the ballroom, we were still able to have a good sized wedding with our closest family and friends and we are so grateful we were able to get married on our date with minor adjustments. The grounds are so beautiful that not only did we get to enjoy the ceremony space and reception, but the gardens and wrap around deck added even more enjoyment for us and our guests. The day went flawlessly and I would recommend choosing the Gates for any wedding or event.

It was a big event and there was lunch and dinner served and they were both exceptional. The food was healthy, fresh, high quality and delicious. The staff was professional, courteous and created a great atmosphere. So glad we attended and had a chance to experience the beautiful Gates On Roblin first hand. If you have an opportunity to go I’d highly recommend it!

I was there on Thursday with a large party and a few things were not as good as they could have been. We all ordered drinks and the wine order was placed. The wine came out before the drinks and the waitress asked if we wanted it served. Not before the drinks!! I ordered the onion soup. There was far too much bread and it absorbed the broth which made just a bowl of mush. I didn’t want to make a fuss so I took it home and threw it out. The venue was very nice. The calamari was delicious and a very large serving. The beet salad was delicious

Well first disappointing experience we've had, we always look forward to celebrating our Anniversary with an evening out for dinner at The Gates! Service was great, but when I went to order my favorite meal the Bison short ribs I was informed that there was none! So after some deliberation I decided on the Lamb, based on my wife ordering that meal on a previous dinner out and it was a rack that was absolutely decadent. This time it was very disappointing to say the least, flavor wise was ok, but 2 tiny medallions with 4 bones hardly constitutes a Rack! Approximately 2 oz. of meat. The Ceasar salad was bland and no bread basket was even offered or delivered with our salads, when all the other tables recieved a nice basket of baked goods.???? I was so excited to go as all previous experiences were always superb! Ray and his staff were always and I mean always accomodating and so personable. (Thank you Ray for replying and reaching out to us! We'll definitely be back to enjoy your beautiful restaurant and menu! You're the best.... Rob and Linda.

They were very responsive to all our endless questions, they were so accomodating with moving our dates and quickly putting a plan together for our date. Everything was stunning and so well organized! Food at the Gates is sooo delicious too, we were very happy on how everything turned out, how simple the day went, how everything was arranged for us and everything.
